There are other songs that fans argue can also be about her to a certain degree like The Grudge, The Patient and others. But the 3 above are definitely about her and are Tool songs. Songs from Puscifer have been argued to be about her too but those are definitely about her and his relationship with her.
Also...to tie it in...Maynard's mother, Judith Marie, was stricken and paralyzed for roughly 10,000 days ...hence the name his other album with Tool. ♡

Hey my guys don't sweat it if you make mistakes. Everyone does and it's going to happen. It's all part of growing! Speaking of personal growth, this song was back when Maynard's mother was still alive, the song's title comes from her name Judith Marie. She suffered a brain injury and became paralyzed when Maynard was young, which is discussed in the Tool song "Jimmy". She never gave up on her strong faith in Christ. Maynard obviously had some issues with her devotion, based on the lyrics from this song. After her death, he wrote the song combination "Wings for Marie" and "10,000 Days" with Tool to honor her life and her faith. It's a very touching set of songs. Over the years he let his anger go and gained acceptance. If you want more A Perfect Circle, try out "Pet" or "The Outsider". If you want Puscifer, listen to the song "The Remedy".

Duuuude. Red Rocks! I WAS THERE! I've seen APC @ Red Rocks multiple times & it's always been that feeling like- This was the best show ever. However I feel like that everytime I leave an MJK show- tool, apc, puscifer... and red rocks has that affect on you .
I was lucky enough to be at the Portland show on March 11 the last tool show they played pre-Covid. I still get fresh replays in my mind of that show. They played descending. Gold!
Judith is an AMAZING song it's part of a trilogy. Wings for Maria, 10,000 days (wings pt2) give them all a listen. Maynard is nothing short of a genius. And the part where Paz, the bass player puts her hair up in a bun and just keeps playing isy fav part of the video
Billy Howerdel (the guitarist), was a former guitar tech for Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fishbone and T00L!!! They’ve been friends since 1992 I believe T00L was going through a legal battle around 1999, and so Maynard and Billy ended up doing their own thing. She has been the bass guitarist, vocalist and violinist of the alternative rock band Pixies since 2014. She is known for playing bass or strings with various bands, including Entrance, A Perfect Circle, Zwan, and Queens of the Stone Age.
As requested, just a little info on the band and members. Mostly the brain child of Billy Howerdel (the guitarist and secondary vocalist in the video), with a lot of creative input from Maynard. Been through many different lineups since their inception, with the original line up being Paz Lenchantin (Queens of the Stone Age, the Pixies) on bass, John Freese (Devo, [too many other bands to name]) on Drums, Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Failure) on guitar, Maynard on vocals, and Billy on backing vocals and guitar. Other notable members have included Tim Alexander ( drummer, Primus) and Twiggy Ramirez (bassist, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails). Their current lineup now consists of Billy, Maynard, James Iha (co founder of Smashing Pumpkins), Matt McJunkins (touring bassist for Thirty Seconds to Mars, Eagles of Death Metal), and Jeff Friedl. The reason behind the turnover rate for band members, is due to the length of inactivity for the band and obligations to their other bands and projects. APC's new album is perfection. IMO. I'm amazed how Maynard's projects change and evolve and continue to amaze. The band has been through multiple member, but maintains excellence. Maynard's lyrics and voice are that powerful.

A Perfect Circle Live at Red Rocks..."When the Levee Breaks" is spectacular. They took the Zeppelin song and changed the whole tone. They were so on point, it's better live than the album version.
The guitarist for APC is Billy Howerdel who was Tool's guitar tech. The former bassist is the beautiful and infinitely talented Argentina native, Paz Lenchantin, who comes from a whole family of musicians. I saw them in concert the first time they came to Seattle in Mercer Arena at the Seattle Center in Feb of 2001 and it was DOPE AF! When they came out the stage was pitch black and you couldn't see anything, just barely hear some light movement, and then you heard her before you saw her. After a few enchanting notes from a cello played with a bow, a single spotlight pointing straight down lit her up, and her only. She looked like a majestic dark angel perched atop a pedestal about 10 feet off the stage while she hypnotized us all with her mesmerizing solo intro. Then just as every guy in the crowd and half the chicks were ready to do whatever she commanded, (while the rest of the ladies were hatin on her cuz the way their mans was under her spell and were powerless to do a damn thing about it) the rest of the band with the help of the lighting crew rudely snapped us all back to reality, but were soon forgiven after melting our faces with a sonic orgasm for the ages!
Just know this. You just listened to one of a handful of "heavy" songs that are in their catalogue. APC is mostly mellower and ballad-like. It remains to be seen if you'll like these types of songs as well. I for one, most certainly do. Orestes (especially the live at Stone and Echo version) is probably my top suggestion.
The first time I ever heard this song it became my favorite rock song ever. Thats over all my favorite Tool and SOAD songs. Just awesome. That was before I even knew what the song was all about. The musicality and vocals were just beautiful. Perfect.
Trash Talkers Maynard wrote several songs about his mother. Three with TOOL and this one with APC. Their is also another song from PUSCIFER called MAMA SED. ✌

the drummer Josh Freese was a Disneyland drummer back in the 80's when he was a pre-teen; he's an accomplished studio drummer, plays with Devo (and many other groups), and releases his own music. His magic is that he makes drums parts, like this song, sound effortlessly. He's put in his "10,000 hours" (look it up; this phrase applies to those who have a career in the arts.).
This is yet another song Maynard sings that made me go “Did he just say what I think he said?”…..it used to happen quite a bit when it came to MJK….he’s NEVER predictable which I imagine would be a compliment to an artist….you never want to be predictable when it comes to music 🖤🥶

That "chick" is Paz Lenchantin. She is an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist. She has put out a couple of solo records, and has worked with some amazing artists. Currently playing bass for the Pixies.
In fact I'd do all future reactions from the Stone and Echo live at Red Rocks videos. The audio quality is very good because it's from a DVD and the live performances are even better than the recorded versions.

The chick bassist is Argentinian Paz Lenchantin. She was also the violinist in APC. She was with the Pixies and Queens of the Stone Age. She's no longer with APC. Actually, a lot of members have been replaced in this group over the years.
Tool Intolerance would be great and A perfect Circle Orestes. Oh and no APC does not deliver in the same way but they are amazing too. Billy's sweeping guitar riff is nasty. To be clear they will never be as good as Tool. Billy wanted to start a band originally with a female singer but Maynard said he'd sing for the band so together he and Billy formed APC in late 1999-2000 I believe. Josh freese was the original drummer but now jeff friedel is, and Matt McJunkins on bass and Billy some vocals and guitar.

Maybe it help make you feel better to know I've seen APC 15 times all VIP cause I like the band that much I think they are an amazing band. Tool will always be my favorite though.

A Perfect Circle formed because, at one point, Tool was in a lengthy legal battle with their record label, so they couldn't produce any more music and had to go on hiatus for a while. During the downtime, Maynard formed APC with Tool's guitar technician (Billy Howerdell). Maynard and Billy are the only two permanent members of the band. The other members kind of rotate, since the band has a lot of downtime and has to work around Maynard's schedule.
Billy Howerdel had originally envisioned a female lead singer when he was making/mixing APC music,He was Maynards neighbor, listened to Billy’s music and loved it , took it, put some lyrics on it, showed it to billy, and viola ! Maynard reportedly said he wanted to be in something where he can “sing” , use his vocal range, cuz he felt he couldn’t do that with Tool.

Imma try and break it down for you Trash Talkers. Maynard is currently the lead singer of THREE active bands. Tool, APC and Puscifer. They each have their own unique sound and are worth listening too. I suggest "Remedy" from Puscifer to start with. Maynard also had a 4th project with Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. That was the Tapeworm Project. Only two songs have ever survived and seen the light of day from Tapeworm, "Potions" from Puscifer and "Passive" from APC.
APC have had a varied lineup, mostly consisting of musicians from already successful bands, (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Mason, Primus, Smashing Pumpkins,) But Maynard and Billy are the main two, Billy is actually the founder of the band.
Saw Perfect Circle do "Judith" at the Hollywood Bowl a couple years back. Saw TOOL at Staple Center last fall just after the release of Fear Inoculum. Tool is OTHER. MJK is the man.

Caught this music video on VH1 while changing for school as a sophomore in HS when APC first rolled out...I was like "WTF this sounds like Maynard...but this ain't Tool so it can't be --- NUH UH!!" and I was late for school.

A great story about this album: Maynard and Billy invited Rob Halford, of Judas Priest, to listen to the songs they did for the first album. They were feeling like using 3 Libras for the first single. Rob listened to several, but after hearing Judith, told them "if you make this your first single, you'll sell a million albums. Guaranteed." They took his advice. lol Pretty sure it wouldn't have mattered but how cool to have a metal legend listen to your stuff pre release like that?
This is part of what we took fans call the maynards mom trilogy. Keep this song in mind while you listen to Tool - Jimmy and Tool - 10000 days part 1/2 (which has to be done together). Maynards mom was paralyzed when he was young and suffered for 27 years before her death (10000 days) was a devout Christian her whole life and Maynard shares some amazing perspective and is so transparent about the way this makes him feel about her faith
I think it does, I love Tool and I love APC. Maynard elevates or works with elevated people. Basically he has his choice of the best musicians to play with. APC and Tool share a lot of the same topics. Pusifer is growing on me❣️

Ok TRASH TALKERS! Tool historian here, here's a quick breakdown of APC. Legend has it that Billy Howerdel (guitarist) was working as Guitar Tech and helping Adam Jones set up Pro Tools for recording Tool's AEnema album. He agreed to do so with the understanding he'd be working on his own music during down time. Maynard over heard some thing Billy had been working on and offered to to write some lyrics, Howerdel said he wrote the music intending to have a female lead singer but who tells Maynard 'No thanks' ? The rest is history, original members include, Billy, Maynard, Josh Freeze(drums), Paz Lenchantin (bass), and Danny Lohner (rhythm guitar). Currwnt members include James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and Matt McJunkins. Check out The Package from the album Thirteenth Step. Lyrics are fire!!!

I was lucky enough to be at the Portland show on March 11 the last tool show they played pre-Covid. I still get fresh replays in my mind of that show. They played descending. Gold!

Judith is an AMAZING song it's part of a trilogy. Wings for Maria, 10,000 days (wings pt2) give them all a listen. Maynard is nothing short of a genius. And the part where Paz, the bass player puts her hair up in a bun and just keeps playing isy fav part of the video
Billy Howerdel (the guitarist), was a former guitar tech for Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fishbone and T00L!!! They’ve been friends since 1992
I believe T00L was going through a legal battle around 1999, and so Maynard and Billy ended up doing their own thing. Many different members, but Maynard and Billy were there since the beginning

As requested, just a little info on the band and members.
Mostly the brain child of Billy Howerdel (the guitarist and secondary vocalist in the video), with a lot of creative input from Maynard. Been through many different lineups since their inception, with the original line up being Paz Lenchantin (Queens of the Stone Age, the Pixies) on bass, John Freese (Devo, [too many other bands to name]) on Drums, Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Failure) on guitar, Maynard on vocals, and Billy on backing vocals and guitar. Other notable members have included Tim Alexander ( drummer, Primus) and Twiggy Ramirez (bassist, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails). Their current lineup now consists of Billy, Maynard, James Iha (co founder of Smashing Pumpkins), Matt McJunkins (touring bassist for Thirty Seconds to Mars, Eagles of Death Metal), and Jeff Friedl. The reason behind the turnover rate for band members, is due to the length of inactivity for the band and obligations to their other bands and projects. Billy Howerdel is usually the only driving force for the band and has difficulty wrangling up Maynard to do anything studio wise, or even tour wise, mainly due to Maynard's many other projects and obligations, including Tool and Puscifer, being a father, running his own vineyard in Arizona, the many track features he does, solo cover songs, appearances on talk shows and podcasts, and a plethora of other stuff.
Their discography only consists of 3 full length studio albums, 1 album of cover songs (including a haunting cover of John Lennon Imagine), 1 collection of remixes, 1 live acoustic session, 1 live performance DVD, and 1 greatest hits compilation.
Mer de Noms released in 2000, Thirteenth Step in 2003, Emotive (cover songs) in 2004, Amotion (remixes) in 2004, Acoustic Sessions (unconfirmed) in 2009/2010, Three Sixty (Greatest Hits) in 2013, A Perfect Circle Live: featuring Stone and Echo in 2013, and finally Eat the Elephant in 2018
Seen them both live and there's just is no comparing the two. They're both great in their own terms. Had a great time at both concerts.

APC's new album is perfection. IMO. I'm amazed how Maynard's projects change and evolve and continue to amaze. The band has been through multiple member, but maintains excellence. Maynard's lyrics and voice are that powerful.

A Perfect Circle Live at Red Rocks..."When the Levee Breaks" is spectacular. They took the Zeppelin song and changed the whole tone. They were so on point, it's better live than the album version.

The guitarist for APC is Billy Howerdel who was Tool's guitar tech. The former bassist is the beautiful and infinitely talented Argentina native, Paz Lenchantin, who comes from a whole family of musicians. I saw them in concert the first time they came to Seattle in Mercer Arena at the Seattle Center in Feb of 2001 and it was DOPE AF! When they came out the stage was pitch black and you couldn't see anything, just barely hear some light movement, and then you heard her before you saw her. After a few enchanting notes from a cello played with a bow, a single spotlight pointing straight down lit her up, and her only. She looked like a majestic dark angel perched atop a pedestal about 10 feet off the stage while she hypnotized us all with her mesmerizing solo intro. Then just as every guy in the crowd and half the chicks were ready to do whatever she commanded, (while the rest of the ladies were hatin on her cuz the way their mans was under her spell and were powerless to do a damn thing about it) the rest of the band with the help of the lighting crew rudely snapped us all back to reality, but were soon forgiven after melting our faces with a sonic orgasm for the ages!

Paz Lenchantin was the bassist in this timeframe. She's done a boatload of session work with all sorts of bands.
Just know this. You just listened to one of a handful of "heavy" songs that are in their catalogue. APC is mostly mellower and ballad-like. It remains to be seen if you'll like these types of songs as well. I for one, most certainly do. Orestes (especially the live at Stone and Echo version) is probably my top suggestion.
So far so good. I kinda like the heavier stuff and Hollywood tends to like the more mellow. But we both think it's all great

the drummer Josh Freese was a Disneyland drummer back in the 80's when he was a pre-teen; he's an accomplished studio drummer, plays with Devo (and many other groups), and releases his own music. His magic is that he makes drums parts, like this song, sound effortlessly. He's put in his "10,000 hours" (look it up; this phrase applies to those who have a career in the arts.).

That "chick" is Paz Lenchantin. She is an incredibly talented multi-instrumentalist. She has put out a couple of solo records, and has worked with some amazing artists. Currently playing bass for the Pixies.
In fact I'd do all future reactions from the Stone and Echo live at Red Rocks videos. The audio quality is very good because it's from a DVD and the live performances are even better than the recorded versions.

The chick bassist is Argentinian Paz Lenchantin. She was also the violinist in APC. She was with the Pixies and Queens of the Stone Age. She's no longer with APC. Actually, a lot of members have been replaced in this group over the years.
Tool Intolerance would be great and A perfect Circle Orestes. Oh and no APC does not deliver in the same way but they are amazing too. Billy's sweeping guitar riff is nasty. To be clear they will never be as good as Tool. Billy wanted to start a band originally with a female singer but Maynard said he'd sing for the band so together he and Billy formed APC in late 1999-2000 I believe. Josh freese was the original drummer but now jeff friedel is, and Matt McJunkins on bass and Billy some vocals and guitar.
@Carl's Brother that they are. However, read between the lines I'm basically saying in my book they never will be as good as Tool. Maybe it help make you feel better to know I've seen APC 15 times all VIP cause I like the band that much I think they are an amazing band. Tool will always be my favorite though.

A Perfect Circle its Billy Howerdel band, the other guy in the vocals...
A Perfect Circle formed because, at one point, Tool was in a lengthy legal battle with their record label, so they couldn't produce any more music and had to go on hiatus for a while. During the downtime, Maynard formed APC with Tool's guitar technician (Billy Howerdell). Maynard and Billy are the only two permanent members of the band. The other members kind of rotate, since the band has a lot of downtime and has to work around Maynard's schedule.

Billy Howerdel had originally envisioned a female lead singer when he was making/mixing APC music,He was Maynards neighbor, listened to Billy’s music and loved it , took it, put some lyrics on it, showed it to billy, and viola ! Maynard reportedly said he wanted to be in something where he can “sing” , use his vocal range, cuz he felt he couldn’t do that with Tool.

Imma try and break it down for you Trash Talkers. Maynard is currently the lead singer of THREE active bands. Tool, APC and Puscifer. They each have their own unique sound and are worth listening too. I suggest "Remedy" from Puscifer to start with. Maynard also had a 4th project with Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. That was the Tapeworm Project. Only two songs have ever survived and seen the light of day from Tapeworm, "Potions" from Puscifer and "Passive" from APC.
APC have had a varied lineup, mostly consisting of musicians from already successful bands, (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Mason, Primus, Smashing Pumpkins,) But Maynard and Billy are the main two, Billy is actually the founder of the band.

Caught this music video on VH1 while changing for school as a sophomore in HS when APC first rolled out...I was like "WTF this sounds like Maynard...but this ain't Tool so it can't be --- NUH UH!!" and I was late for school.

A great story about this album: Maynard and Billy invited Rob Halford, of Judas Priest, to listen to the songs they did for the first album. They were feeling like using 3 Libras for the first single. Rob listened to several, but after hearing Judith, told them "if you make this your first single, you'll sell a million albums. Guaranteed." They took his advice. lol

This is part of what we took fans call the maynards mom trilogy. Keep this song in mind while you listen to Tool - Jimmy and Tool - 10000 days part 1/2 (which has to be done together). Maynards mom was paralyzed when he was young and suffered for 27 years before her death (10000 days) was a devout Christian her whole life and Maynard shares some amazing perspective and is so transparent about the way this makes him feel about her faith
I think it does, I love Tool and I love APC. Maynard elevates or works with elevated people. Basically he has his choice of the best musicians to play with. APC and Tool share a lot of the same topics. Pusifer is growing on me❣️

Ok TRASH TALKERS! Tool historian here, here's a quick breakdown of APC. Legend has it that Billy Howerdel (guitarist) was working as Guitar Tech and helping Adam Jones set up Pro Tools for recording Tool's AEnema album. He agreed to do so with the understanding he'd be working on his own music during down time. Maynard over heard some thing Billy had been working on and offered to to write some lyrics, Howerdel said he wrote the music intending to have a female lead singer but who tells Maynard 'No thanks' ? The rest is history, original members include, Billy, Maynard, Josh Freeze(drums), Paz Lenchantin (bass), and Danny Lohner (rhythm guitar). Currwnt members include James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins) and Matt McJunkins. Check out The Package from the album Thirteenth Step. Lyrics are fire!!!
