The Sylvania toy record player gives you decent sound from your records at a nice price. It's very portable and works on batteries, making it easy to take camping or to a tailgate party. It plays cardboard and flexi-discs very well as you will see.

Companies need to start putting records on the back of boxes again now that there's been a big vinyl resurgence.
I fully agree and more promos too like they used to do even cereal boxes and such would be awesome and like cool singles records with some cool tunes of all kinds of genre's from kids to techno electro and such.
It looks like something from the 60s or 70s. Love the avocado green color!
“Not a flying toy” got a giggle out of me! Thanks
Good job
You can tell by the cartridge if the player is crap or not. The crappy crosley like cartridges have got a little red thing arround the stylus and they look all the same. You can get 3 of these cartridges for 13€. (Im from Germany) I think about $11 or $12 I think.
Anything vinyl related always brings the crazies to the comment section.
Crazies? What are you talking about? You mean those people who say the player will destroy your records as well as the universe? lol
databits I mean, they arnt wrong, the universe cant handle those players ;^)
Oh first! Great vid ! Thanks !
It's another knockoff of the 80's Audio-Technica Sound Burger that are collectable and popular with crate diggers. But that model had a high quality magnetic cartridge and better sound quality. It also sounded like yours was playing a little too fast, a common problem with all these cheap turntables.
These are well known for working well the first few days then speeding up or slowing down then dying
For what a comment is worth.
I have one of these. I bought it for my "not so, in good shape" records that still have life in them, just not for my good turntable. While I'm not a big fan of ceramic cartridge setups, this player is not bad at all. This IS NOT a Crosley,, it's 100 times better. It does use a stereo cart, and has a proper stereo preamp stage for it. As for the built in main amp, it is a single channel monoral output for the single speaker,, this means,, the headphone jack is not stereo.
However,, if you know what you're doing, and you like to mess with things,, there is an easy tap off of the preamp, to execute to a stereo line out, to plug into a home stereo system, or powered speakers. I did this with mine, and it ended up sounding pretty good.
I have this same model for my well played and worn out records. Was sad it only outputs in mono despite having the stereo ceramic cartridge. Was it easy to do the modification to stereo output? I noticed it has no screws holding it together so may require literally prying it apart to open it up. Any suggestions?
Are there screws hiding under those rubber feet possibly? Would love to get inside mine to tinker! :-P
this would be great to add to my collection
Thats a funky looking toilet if I ever saw one.
I've looked all over for one of these. I got one on Mercari but when I received it, the battery compartment was rested.
I’m not 100% certain, but mine only outputs 2-channel mono over TRS and USB. On the back of the cartridge, two of the pins are connected with one wire for a total of three wires entering the tonearm. I cannot tell if they’re joint ground or joint L/R+. I have noticed both channel waveforms are identical on recordings over USB.
A couple extra points is that the USB also allows an alternative power source from the batteries, but 5v over USB still seems too low for reliable motor torque. I’ve found the speed adjustment screws finicky due to that. The more massive the record, the harder time the player has keeping speed.
I agree on the “toy” nature of the player. It’s capable enough for trying out Goodwill finds, but is, in no way, a serious player, not even for digitization. I got mine on a lark, don’t regret it, but it’s not even my Z-deck.
If you are able to find a way to make it stereo let me know. I have the same one and want to tinker with it a bit.
For some reason, use of mixed batteries drives me nuts. Maybe because I like uniformity.
OMG, I used to love burger chef!
I have three of those McDonald's records. The thing was they sing the song Perfectly and then they screw it all up in the end. Oh well better luck next time.
That stereo cartridge looks like the one used in those cheep Crosley record players.
Phfft. These type of cartridges have been around since 1987! Crosley just bought them back.
That's a cute little player. Do you get the noise if you plug an audio cable into the headphones jack/audio out and run that to a line input on a PC? You could maybe attach a ground wire somewhere maybe audio ground and power ground. You could also use a digital voice recorder to record off the audio out.
If you really want to get fancy you could put your own pre-amp in this and record off that.
I love this channel, you find the coolest gadgets.
coondogtheman1234 yeah probably would be better to just use audio out jack and record into line in on PC.
Probably a good idea. The A/D converters on most of these cheap record players aren't usually the best. This one even ID's itself as a USB microphone.
so in theory one can connect to laptop then connect to bluetooth speakers or would you need to convert to mp3 first?
I have that same record player mine is black
rule of thumb on if its a toy or not if the battery compartment has a screw to hold it closed(children and batteries dont really mix) its a toy. If not then its not a toy simples :O)
I know I'm a toy collector
I would have to disagree that simply running on batteries qualifies a turntable as toy. The Sony PS-F9 is an example of this, as there is plenty of substance to go along with the style.
The lid Is the Clamp.
Light bulbs
My answer precisely.
they still make records today, according to my dad
Dad is correct! They make them by the ton! www.urpressing.com/
Forgot to mention that this is a mono turntable.
This is a stereo turntable.
Mono only if playing through the built-in speaker. Headphone out and USB out are stereo.
I never got records in a fun meal. Mostly frisbees.
The Burger Chef Fun Meal was the first burger meal in a box dedicated to kids. Burger Chef even tried to sue McDonald's for trademark infringement when they introduced their own Happy Meal.
When he took the rubber mat off he put it back on upside down. Argh. I know the thing is a piece of junk in general, but at least give it a chance by putting the rubber mat on correctly!
Ken Price lol! Exactly! That made me nuts! It on upside down! Oh he took it off, good he'll put it back on correctly. No no! It still upside down! Arghhh!
I'd rather use a Higher Quality Turntable to backup my records
Quite obvious BUT if you were to own some rare format records like the hip pocket records shown here, this would be to go if you want to back them up. A regular turntable cannot get so close to the center of a disc before the stop/auto return mechanism triggers.
Keep up the good work with vintage and odd records and record players. Thanks.
You may want to check out some of my " Abstracto Concreto' " or "sined in tryplykit" videos on RUclips.
Can this play any kind of records?
Mancake productions yes but not 78 rpm
where do you get 1 ?
These audio levels...
Still better than a crosley. Oh wait...
$40 for that thing? I wouldn't even have paid $20 for it unless for a specific reason such as what you used it for. The USB connection sounds loads better however, Woodstock didn't seem to do very well for ending world hunger if world hunger is still going on in 2018
Whilst I'm glad vinyl is making a comeback these cheaply main machines especially the crossley are no good for any decent vinyl. Especially with the ceramic stylus that just eats way at the discs
BOOGER!?
Thanks for the video. But as for the topic - 40$, hahaha, how about....NO! It would be nice novelty toy if it would retail for some 10-15$. Otherwise you can buy a decent entey level vinyl player for around 100-120$ these days, and those will definetly sound 10x better than this toy.
Shame it doesn't use Linear Tracking.
Another company called their version of this a "hamburger" player, for some reason.
George Price I think it was the Audio-Technica mr Disc soundburger
Oh god, it's one of these.
If you want something somewhat better, try finding a freaking Audio Technica Soundburger. It might be better than this crap.
(Sorry for being negative, but I am truthfully speaking).
Absolute rubbish. I would not waste my money on it.
Please.... God, no!
TOTAL GARBAGE
Waste of money.
Indeed
That record player is crap it damage records, go buy a audio Technica lp120
You honestly expect people to give 300 dollars for a record player?!
Or the LP60, which is what I own.
There is nothing wrong with this turntable, it's a TOY! Why are you complaining about a toy?
He probably already has a higher end turntable.
it's not a toy. It is a real record player. Just thought I point it out for you.
Neil Forbes does it has any kids logo on it? No. Does it has He-Man, She-ra or Frozen logos on it? No, then it is not a toy. Yes, it runs on batteries. Let me ask you this: can you take the Crosbey or other record player with you with while you're camping or travelling? No. Why? Because you need an electrical outlet to plug it in.
wii1245 Why the f*ck would you want to have a portable record player these days?! When was the last time you took your vinyl collection with you on the weekend trip with the family, lol? As for the “toy” part - sorry, but the quality of this device is so low, that “toy” is the only way how to describe it properly.
wii1245 its basically a toy
Artūrs Savickis I would buy it to test out the records they have at the flea market
The Technal Thing 1999 Get a sound burger if you really want to do that. If I sold records I would not want people coming to play my records on that thing.
Second!
