- In this video, we will take a look at the start up procedure needed between the pilot and the (human) RIO for the F-14.
This video was originally meant to be Hellreign's but he let me take over on this one as he has a few more videos lined up along the way. Thank you to Hellreign for all the help!

The way that the pilot helmet follows the player's camera in the mirror is SUPER satisfying for some reason!
it is! though it is not exclusive to the 14. does that in every module as far as Ive seen
@@jmax8692 no. other modules have the pilot head move when you do. but the 14 is the only one to move the entire pilot body. not unique just done better

I need as much RIO content as I can possibly get! The manual is great but it's hard to wrap your mind around the text on a page. I need to see that stuff in action so I won't be Dead Weight on release day!
Totally understandable. I literally read about this just today, for like 2-3 hours - just to see it here shown in a few minutes and much easier to get. At least I knew what I was looking at already :D
Normally I'll just read parts of the manual when I don't know what something does, usually this grows interest in the things around it. But it's always easier to understand all that stuff when you have the virtual cockpit and are able to click the stuff :)
Have to admit, this is the first time we have had any interaction with the RIO's cockpit. Nice one guys

I can guarantee that some servers will make that alignment process much much faster. Not everyone would like to sit for 7 minutes lol.
@@Acepilot235 Stored heading alignment reduces the fine align time to about 2-3 minutes, and it's realistic.
Will love to see some missions with the fully manned F-14 with all the cheesy Top Gun goodies and cut-ins you can muster, mister.

Can you also have the nav aligned by default? Also can the pilot alone also align the Nav system?
Now with someone in the back seat, pilot error wont exist as it was obviously the RIO's fault.
All the wanna be RIO's just watched this and went "To hell with that, i'm going to be the pilot". Great video, good to see it in action with a human RIO.

Is the RIO going to be a hotseat-able position? or can you only join in prior to startup? Asking, because it'd be awesome if for example, you flew with 2 player F-14's, if one got shot down, rather than starting up or waiting for the other to RTB or get shot down, you could jump back into the action by swapping in as a human RIO to replace AI RIO.
Also, did they ever fix some of the crazy problems they had with the Gazelle co-op? generally you could screw with people by hopping in their gazelle and it would cause all kinds of bugs. ie what happens if your human RIO ends up getting disconnected? does it default back to AI RIO? Can you turn off the ability for some rando-pubby joining you? I'm assuming also, you need to have the full module to be a RIO? Would be kind of cool for those who can't afford the full module to be able to RIO for free, or if they own some other aircraft you get RIO free?
Not sure if it's possible to hop into a live unit, but I guess it's possible. When your RIO disconnects, Jester will automatically take over. And if someone wants to join you as RIO, you'll get a prompt that you have to accept or decline. RIOs need the module license as well as pilots.
I notice he didn't click on water cooling for the AUG-9, is it a simple mistake?
question how is autostart feature when you are two in a aircraft. Will lets say rio be able to quickstart his part meanwhile i do normal? my friend is lazy and keeps autostart i hope he cant force me into an autostart when i want to do manual
What’s the answer to that question. I totally missed this release and would love to grab my buddy and fly but I don’t think he’s going to want to do manual

@@Star-xx5zr you can attempt to restart if you can get the airspeed to windmill the engines. theres the emergency generator which helps some but dont remember how much or for what conditions are needed for it to work. otherwise you have some power for a few minutes of limited flight controls to glide somewhere better to bail or ground/ditch the plane
I get no APU, but really no battery (at all?)? What does it use for redundant electrical power? Does it have an emergency power generator such as a ram-air turbine or hydraulically driven generator? I can't believe it only has ground power or engine-driven generators for power supply? Then again… so much is unique with this aircraft :)

Do both people need to own the f-14 module to be a Pilot/Rio combo? Or can I have a buddy whom may not own the module play with me if I do?

I don't think so, the plane is designed to loiter rather than scramble.
The aircraft cannot utilise weapons other than the sidewinder without at least a minimum weapons grade INS alignment. Generally for a scramble, you wanted the aircraft's INS aligned beforehand and the aircraft put on alert. You would never really be able to effectively scramble these from cold and dark.

@@wiwihfirman8499 Whilst the weapons themselves such as the AIM-54 require INS hand-off, this is not the limitation. The radar itself cannot function without weapons grade INS alignment, therefore any weapon depending on the radar also cannot function (AA Gun, AIM-7, AIM-54 and all air to ground weapon guidance).

And I thought the A-10 had a long startup procedure ;-) By the way, how does the F-14 manage to align its INS on a moving carrier?
The carrier will share its own INS data to the tomcat via radio datalink or a physical cable that they run along the deck and into the tomcats INS. Basically the tomcat will monitor the carrier's INS and use it as a dynamic, virtual, stationary reference I guess? The tomcat will do its alignment relative to the carriers own INS outputs, so that any movement (sea states, carrier turning etc) are automatically compensated for during the cat's own INS alignment.. This means that the tomcat can still perform a full alignment even in rocky states and with the carrier moving, so long as the carrier's INS itself is working. It does take slightly longer however due to the somewhat increased workload on the INS.

How long does it take for the INS to align, and is there an option to skip it? Going to get really annoying everytime you die in MP having to sit around for 10 minutes aligning INS.
Spirit 117 easy solution don’t die, or if you do. Beat the hell out of your pilot, for making you sit through the ins again. 😂

@@SPIRIT-117 The INS will take as long to align as it always does, regardless of who initiates it. With stored heading alignment, a fine align only takes 2-3 mins so I wouldn't worry about it.
Superb vid and really useful. Do you know if anyone is going to go through the main hotas key binding before release? I want to get going as soon as I can so the quicker I can set up the better :-)

So basically about 12 minutes from spawn to taxi. I hope they put an option for auto alignment like in other planes. Also backseater auto start, inputting all those numbers in VR is not fun

It could be a dirty potentiometers but both throttles are wobbling at the same rate so it’s more likely that he has it plugged into a USB hub with fluctuating power. I had the same problem with a brand new Logitech Throttle Quadrant and as soon as I plugged it directly into my PC, instead of into the USB hub on my desk, the problem stopped.
Often people map the grey lever on the Thrustmaster Warthog Throttle to their view zoom. It wobbles like that and can get really annoying. Same problem. Same fix.

I think in real life the preparation for the flight of an air superiority fighter is a little faster than that ... imagine the imminence of an enemy invading the airspace and taking 15 min just to start taxing the fighter for the takeoff lol xD
And you base that on what exactly?
It's quite physically impossible for the tomcat to use its effective intercept weapons without aligning for at least 5 or so mins (however long it takes for min weapon launch).
@@reillybrangan2182 They can, however, pre-align and save that information. All that's needed is for the pilot to start the plane up with the saved align and go.
Ralfi can you make a cockpit startup i personally like your better, it sounds dumb but yeah, Nothing against hellreign i watch his videos to but i personally like your stuff like cockpit stuff better.
