  • Today I demonstrate the use of the AWG-9 radar from the back seat as RIO. I will cover the DDD, TID, HCU, CAP and sensor control panel. In this video we will skip weapon employment, jamming effects, datalink and TCS for now.

Thanks! This is one of the harder things to learn so this coverage is great

This baby looks like it's from the 80's. :D My favorite plane ever. I was 5 when THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME came out, and I loved it and fell in love with jets but ESPECIALLY the Tomcat. So grateful for this module and this wonderful tutorial on the twizlers.

This is so great! I've read about what the RIO does in combat but to be able see it and start to understand some of it is wonderful. I wonder if HB plans to add any more functionality in the future?

I know this will help me, your vids are excellent. Just learning the F-16, engine start (thanks to your vid, but will just use easy start, lol), take off etc pretty easy (been flying sims for feels like 100 years, lol). Took off, found a plane on radar! Locked and shot it down after I got in range (Fox 2) and your vids helped me so much, really helped. Honorary mention to GR for also helping. Keep them coming, could not have done it without you! Eventually I'll get online in DCS and back online with IL2 (do you do IL2? best WW2 sim in my honest opinion). I remember the hours of junk I had in Lock On that put me of jets for years. Thank you
Fox 3 and better nav skills will be tried soon

Thanks for this great explanation. This is one of the more abstract and sometimes confusing features as RIO. I took a lot of notes and it helped clarify a lot

I'm having trouble with stt and the Phoenix since the update the other day. It's from the pilot position but kind of along the same lines as your video. Anyways at long range when I have jester stt a targeting says he locked it but the firing circle isn't present and when I fire with all parameters correct it fires and instead of doing the normal climb a then dive on target, it fires as if acme cover is open going pitbull as soon as fired. Not sure if it's a setting or what if anyone has any ideas please let me know it's driving me bonkers lol

I have similar problem and even jester doesn't respond to "go pd stt" command after locking target, until it's closer than 30 nm. Though i bought tomcat less than 2 weeks ago.

I've found out it's related to jamming. If it's AI plane it will always sucessfully jamm you when stt locked, until it's 30 nm or closer, this distance is hardcoded for all modules, but most planes barely have 40 nm radar range, so it isn't as obvious.

Nice intro, I think the alt label on the left of the icons are quite decent. The unit is 10000 feet. Just rounded in a way like what we learned in the primary school.
