    Here's a great option for a shoe bench in an alcove - build a bench at the front, and then make the back a hinged up storage space for taller boots or out of season items!

    Planning on building this layout in our back closet. We had a folding accordian door, and let's just say that someone got tipsy and fell in closet, and wrecked the door lol. Then thought of ideas for a place to sit while getting shoes on, and a place for kids to finally put backpacks away when they get home.

      @@AnaWhiteDIY Hello Ana, it is very good that you can work on wood with true passion, just like me. I'm from Portugal, I'm married, I have a daughter and I work for a boss, sometimes in woodwork and sometimes in remodeling, but in this part more as a helper. I have my workshop that one day I would like to show you ... I will say something in the joke but I would like it to be true, if you need a worker or collaborator, you can count on me, I wouldn't be forced to emigrate, now with a pandemic it's very bad ! I think that together we would make a great pair, thank you and I'm a fan of your work. another thing my real area and training is furniture restoration. Thank you

    Hi Anna,
    I’m planning to do this bench, my measured are a bit smaller than yours it’s 22 deep and 33 wide. Would you recommend to make the bench 11 1/2? Or is it very important to leave 16” for the back storage?

      Hi Terry, thank you! Yes, I will do a review (trying to swing a giveaway too!) of the Kreg Foreman. It is amazing - once you get it set up, it is easy to adjust and drills pocket holes so fast and effortlessly. Definitely worth it if you are in the business of handmade furniture.

    Hi Anna, love the bench! Just a question, did you have to take the baseboard trims out before putting your bench? I heard from your video that you had to build it with half inch allowance

    • @AnaWhiteDIY
      @AnaWhiteDIY  9 лет назад

      Rediza Gapas Hi - We had flat trim around the door casings, so I just built the bench to fit in between the door casings, so I didn't have to remove the baseboard. It will really depend on your situation if you have to remove baseboard or not.

      Look at the second photo here, we just drill out a hole to grab www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/shoe-bench-front-hidden-storage-back
      or if there's room you can leave a littole gap to the back to slide fingers in and pull up. Thanks for the visit!

    I made this! One of my first major woodworking projects, and boy did it come out like _crap_. But a good experience and functional piece.
    My extra tips are:
    - My room wasn't square, so be sure to scribe the walls and see if you need to create new reference edges, particularly for the door
    - I tried to build the whole piece to length and build it in place, but it was way way too tight in my deeper mudroom. Build to a purposfully smaller length and just fill in the gap of some number of inches.
