Easy DIY tutorial for turning an Ikea shelving unit into a shiplap storage bench! - Хобби
I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ruclips.net/user/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
I just built mine and I get so many compliments! Again, beautiful video guys!!! Thank you!
Stumbled upon your page and I'VE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER!!!! Absolutely love how easy and simple your videos are! Thank you thank you!!! Keep up the amazing work, looking forward to my new projects and a huge thanks to your page!
Will you guys ever make a home tour where you show where and how you styled all your projects?
All of your items/videos r absolutely awesome. I like that u r not talking. You’re not leaving anything out, giving all the details to complete the project. I also enjoy seeing your personalities n the cute little helper as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching, much appreciated!
One of the best tutorials with items used and step by step clear instructions with slides with written instructions. Thanks so much
Very nice idea. I may get a 2 tier shelf and build a TV stand for my den. Thanks for posting this video.
I'm not a dog person but u and your dog are so cute. That kiss was everything. Love the project too.
LOVE ikea hack videos!! You did a great job!:D
This turned out so cute!
The only thing I'd change is the MDF. It takes the same amount of time to cut 45 angles and it'll look that much better. To each their own but don't be afraid of 45's! It's incredibly easy and visually rewarding!
Love the bench and the floor too!
I LOVE THE DOG! great touch!
I don't get why peeps getting upset on here. But I don't have the time to even bother. The vid on the other hand is awesome and helpful and I was looking for something like this to do for the entry over in the laundry room. It's like our "Mud-room" keep coats and hats along with umbrellas there. Thank you for the tip!

Not necessarily needed here, but those knots in most types of pine/fir/hem fir, boards will bleed through latex paint. Consider shellac sanding sealer, or using an oil based primer next time. Really nice hack. Looks great.
Ok mr know it all prick
I love your dog 🐶 Adorable!!! I am trying to learn how to repaint my ikea dresser so thank you for showing some great ideas...
Honestly, all I was looking at was your beautiful wood floor! 😍

May I ask how long you’ve had this bench? And how much does it support ? Do you think it could support about 200 lbs on it ?

Is it strong enough to sit on it when u don't have that back Part ? 🤷♂️
Thank you for the vid. This is nice and easy.
Hey there, wondering if its possible that you would have the measurements and what I would need to make this on my own. Instead of buying the body from IKEA. Your videoes are amazing and so simple I love them! Wish this video was on how to make it on your own. If you can help that would be awesome :)
beautiful. what if you want the doors included on the kallax?
Nice job
I sent it to my hubby for I've been c wanting one for a while
Can you pls put centimeters too? Thank you. Nice job.
Love it, Love it!!!
Awesome👊🏽
Great video. Can you make a entertainment center with barn doors with the ikea hack……
I wish I had room in my hat for a sanding block, but then where would I keep my pocket joint jig?
I JUST ...L ❤ V E WATCHING YOU Both with Your GREAT IDEAS Come to Life and
Great Craftsmanship....

I heard there's a whole online community dedicated to hacking Ikea furniture into better uses. Good job!
I just made this and wish I could share the pictures. I bought two units and made this as an L shape. It came out amazing. I used a walnut stain and skipped the MDF and backboard (cant see the back), but otherwise I followed exactly and it came out great. I adjusted measurements to account for the fact that I did an L shape, but I am so happy with the project. Thanks!!
That sounds great! If you want you can send us the pics via our Instagram, we'd love to see it!
erica beth I am wanting to make this for a breakfast nook in my house! How sturdy is this after you built it? Do you think it would hold up for everyday use?
I gotta try this! My garage is so cluttered right now lol 3:32
Tu est super génial ! !!
The best girl for education because you write all the materials used.
❤️ the music! 👍 Perfect!
How many people does the bench hold? I'm just curious about the stability..
Build a outdoor/indoor
Bench/couch simple ❗
Real simple ❗
merci pour le partage
Love this and all of your videos!! Why did you use the pennies?
Millie Mule The pennies were used as spacers to help create the look of shiplap.
Awesome
Excellent...i'll do it soon
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.. THANKS!
i gave this a thumbs up because he gave his doggo some kissies
Do the Kallax boxes that Ikea sells fit into the cubbies with them being on the side now?
great job:)
amazing
Awesome! Do you know the max weight capacity? I couldn't find one on Ikea. I'm assuming the mdf back boards must help strengthen it
That's weird!! I keep my sanding pad under my cap too. 😳
Looks great but how about the weight limit. It is a bookcase, not made for people sitting on it to get their shoes on. Any concerns about it?
Would this be strong enough to sit on?
Beginners and Hacks. when it is upside down, how do you keep the 2 by 6 boards together for a tight smooth top. Clamps...new idea.....Next Ikea is composition material get those screws into the middle and still it might miss and go through the edge.. Don't overstress this box this has cheap corners and will give and bend, no more bench, even with the boards in the back, you might get a few more screws in there not just two on each end. Maybe one day he will show you how to do that. Or accidental learning is so much fun and stress. Did you choose the best side of the boards for the top or it just happens ?.....Hals Wood Shop.....This series should b e called Pretty in Pine.
hi there!!! was wondering if you two could build a chest bench with storage!!!!
Yeah! That's actually on our list! Hopefully soon...
Shiplap is a type of wooden board used commonly as exterior siding in the construction of residences, barns, sheds, and outbuildings. It is either rough-sawn 1" or milled 3/4" pine or similarly inexpensive wood between 3" and 10" wide with a 3/8" - 1/2" rabbet on opposite sides of each end. - wiki also, where's the chic?
onjoFilms nice!! when a cute chick calls something shiplap that clearly is not shiplap, its much more forgivable.

Wow, thanks for the psa pervert, why do you feel the need to criticize a couple that makes such detailed (the most detailed) diy project videos on a common home owners level. Sure the projects could be upgraded with simple 45’s and a kreg jig for a more professional look and I’m sure they understand this but the common home owner doesn’t have these tools, most of the projects they put out can be done by literally anyone and you can make updates or adjustments as you feel necessary to make it your own or more professional. They do a great job showing necessary cuts measurements and supply list, actually so good that if you purchased the equipment to do one project they showed you could probably do 90% percent of there projects with the same tools and just screenshot the supply list for a shopping list. But if it makes you feel better to know the correct terminology on shiplap then that’s cool i guess good for you. I bet your a very skilled carpenter since you use wiki.
I like that you are not talking thru the way of the videos :), and I am sure your dog can do it alone next time ;) My cats are also watching like this, when I do some work around the house ... ;)
Haha, yeah Henry is pretty curious when we make stuff. I can only imagine adding some cats into the mix!
Hey! I was thinking of making this to use as a bench for my breakfast nook, do you think it would hold the weight of 3 people sitting on it or is it meant to be more of a one person sitting on for a short period of time
It should work great for a breakfast nook!
Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful.
