I find saws so intimidating and was shocked when you guys just went for it with the hand saw and baseboard! You make things look (and feel!) so doable! Thanks!
It was great involving the kids especially your friend's daughter, empowering her to do typically "male" things, like putting furniture together, on her own.
Thank you so much for telling us we are enough, and for your encouragement because I am going through a season where I’m not living where I want to live but your tips will make it much better for me.Love your video
So glad you are teaching a younger (girl) generation how to be able to build stuff!! :) So important that girls learn this too, not just boys! Also, a pro tip for putting Ikea furniture together - use wood glue - A LOT!!! It keeps it together much better with a stronger bond. In the wood dowel holes, the screw holes, along seams. So much better!!!
Thanks!! This video was great!! My advice as an Ikea Lover: You can also use PAX wardrobe frames, they have ones that aren't very deep and the series has many accessories you can change as your needs change. Pro tip: use wallpaper on the back of the structure for a custom look!
I have been know to add a stronger back board, which provides more stability, vs the super thin cardboard backer. Luan, a thin , but stiffer wood, is also an option to increase stability, vs using the drywall wall. Just ideas, if someone doesn't want to cut their wood trim, or use the walls.
I've seen a few IKEA hacks with the billy bookcase on it's side with a seat cushion the shelves were shoe bins. Love this idea. Looks very custom. Another home run for you. This channel is so awesome.
Dropps' laundry detergent pods save a lot of space and money. They are plant based and clothes come out super clean, super soft, super smell (choice of no scent or lavender, or eucalyptus, or lemon). Dropps' comes in the mail in a super clean, hand sized box, biodegradable, super clean cardboard. Dropps' started about 1980 for the sweater industry. Dropps' has a funny ad with Jonathon Propper at their website. Keep it in a secure drawer to keep away from kids and pets (same as alcohol, matches, etc.).
Love this DIY! To avoid cutting the base board trim, we made arches at the base of the Billy Bookcase to be slightly large enough to accommodate the trim using a jigsaw. Once we did that that the bookcase fit flush against the wall. After that we secured it to the wall with the bracket and screws that came with it.
I’m so excited you posted this video!!!! I have been looking hallway/entryway trees for about a month and unless you get a flimsy metal one they are so expensive. This is 10000 times better!
Love this DIY and loves your videos, Kathryn!! My 9-year old daughter loves watching them too, and thinks your sons are adorable 🥰 Thank you for the well-needed break this morning (homeschooling my 4 kids!). And Rakuten rocks!!!!
Catherine I'm just nuts about you. Such awesome creative ideas on a budget. I recently divorced so my budget is tight & my house has little storage or organization. Great ideas to make my home a pleasure to be in.
The back board actually helps with stability on these type of shelves. I have had both backless and with the board and the ones without the boards always start to lean over and eventually break apart. The one with the board in the back has been used by my kiddos since they were toddlers. My youngest is 16 and it’s still standing. Lol.
Alternative to cutting the baseboard - attach a piece of baseboard to the top / back of the book shelf so that the top and bottom are both flush.
Use a old plastic card like a old gift card to spackle, instead of using fingers. Gives a better finishing too :)
Love seeing Lydia learning naturally that she can do anything!
You amaze me and I love how the kids are " schooling " together. You are an amazing lady Kathryn. You really are.🥰 God Bless and keep you safe.✝️
Shout outs to Lydia (hope I'm spelling it right) being a strong growing woman 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿absolutely love to see it!!!! #GirlPower!!!! #DoItLikeAGirl
