For me, I always have about three brain cells when it's a really simple puzzle, then they somehow all function intuitively on the most difficult fiddly puzzles.
I like to think that over the years that they were sitting on that shelf, the turrets, having no means of directly communicating with one another, started making any noises they were capable of, just to tell each other they were still there. Over the intervening decades, their 'conversations' became more and more complex until they evolved their own song, serenading each other and anyone else in the darkness.

I mean, they do have opposable legs, as seen by the Frankenturrets (poor thing) using them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are actually able to walk around, just not during testing/aren’t exceptionally good at it.
I remember in one of the portal games, you see a turret guarding what appears to be a baby crib. I wonder if they were programmed to sing lullabies and just improved upon it after a while

When I first found rattman’s den and heard this, I thought it came from a radio in the den. Searched for about 30 second until look down and saw the turrets and that completely blew my mind. This is just ridiculously good world building. I can’t believe how human they have made the turrets in this game.
My theory: These turrets were different they were going down the useless pile into the fire, ratman saved some. They knew ratman was their saviour, ratman died and they and singing a final funeral song for him.

I like to think there’s a giant aperture chorus of turrets, and these four are the front chairs basically, and the turret wife is the maestro and the chorus performs for Glados and the animal king.
There's some lore, or so I've heard at least, that states that some of the turrets had the brains of humans in them as well, and that instead of them doing this willingly, GLaDOS forced them, and now they are trapped inside the turrets. I made a reference to this because, in a *figurative* sense, they lost their humanity, and their *souls*
I know this isn’t supposed to be interpreted. But I’m a veteran, recently got out. Seeing these four killings machines playing together. It brings me back at a veteran bar. A group of veterans played. It made me think of this. Four machines made to kill, but nothing to kill. No orders, no greater cause, no purpose. But instead of fading away and dying. They came together and made something beautiful, something peaceful, something soothing, something non-violent. They no longer bring fear and destruction. But unity and tranquility. Hopefully one day I can find my new purpose like them.

Art still, this is probably one of the bet games that took 2 or more years, and if you imagine how big this would be irl and how long people will take to make is just a good game and map, Big respect to the creators for making this awesome game

I feel like these turrets had some “Weeping Angel” effect to them. You see the fat turret in one of the elevators. They do seem to have some mobility.
