In both Portal 1 & 2, there are several references to the Bring Your Daughter to Work Day, and we even get to see Chell's name on the gigantic potato plant Science Project. There's no real way of telling how much time had passed between the Caroline's transfer into GlaDos and the Bring Your Daughter to Work Day event, but if wasn't more than a few years then it could still be possible for Chell to have been Caroline's daughter. On the day of the event, Chell could have been put into one of the stasis pods (thus saving her from the neurotoxin), which Rattman discovered sometime later. In Portal 1, it's possible that GlaDos didn't recognize Chell as her daughter due to the neuron-dampening spheres that were still attached to her. In Portal 2, Chell had been in suspended "relaxation" (and suspended aging) for possible centuries, and the rebooted GlaDos was simply unaware of Caroline's memory files that were stored in her system...until they were activated upon hearing Caroline's recorded voice and viewing Caroline in the portrait with Cave Johnson. As for Chell herself, she exhibits many similar genetic traits as Caroline (and some of Cave Johnson). Chell could be a genetically modified clone of Caroline mixed with some of the preserved DNA of the late Cave Johnson, but...we'll never truly know (for now). GlaDos does show some "motherly instincts" during one of the cut-scenes after fully completing the Co-Op portion of Portal 2, so... the possibility IS there.
If we credit the ending, we see chell entering a field of wheat with no combine in sight. If this is 50k years in the future, maybe this proves humanity fought off the combine?
"And so" - was used 5 times in this video after checking the script. It was also used only 2 times in the Civil Protection video before it. Thanks for subjecting yourself to them anyway!
I even remember in portal 2 when chell was crossing the belts containing turret parts she found the oracle turret laying there nearing its demise and since it was still alive she picked him up and saved his life
The fire when falling down function sounds like a definite risk for their commercial use. This probably would need to be updated, at least for those specifically.
I'll reluctantly confess - this is the first video I actually watched since your opposing force one. I already mentioned it on that one, but it was just fatiguing, although I myself am partially to blame for that, seeing how I reserved all of my free time until I was done with it, not stopping for anything else. Great video as per usual. Nothing to really add or remove, although I refuse to believe that the turrets that happen to have a completely different and cases are just manufacturing defects, and there might be more going on. I also love the idea of taking the ending scene of Portal 2 literally and Chell being confused because she doesn't speak Italian. BTW, here's 3kliksphilip talking about how to make props not pop in when you do scenes like the one at 19:50 : ruclips.net/video/3g80m8INEYs/видео.html I recommend just always using it as a precaution. Maybe even put it in your config.cfg files.
Every time you make video on half-life or portal l learn something New even when l have played the to death and l like it you make them feel fresh and new. Keep it going!
Idea: Halflife:Spearhead You play as a combine human unit of some kind. Your team and yourself manage to get into Aperture, and get separated. The game is you trying to link back up.
I do believe you know what you're talking about, but i swear I remember reading once that the turrets were originally designed to be robot babysitters- fitting cave johnson's trend of creating highly dangerous things for no reason in the pursuit of something else entirely lmao
I don't think anyone asides from Chell will remember aperture... Portal 2 happens between 1000 to 10,000 years after portal 1. So even at that point, humanity is already extinct or existing as small tribes. Or the combine species are living in it or left the planet abandoned after extracting all of its resources. Though most likely it'd be used as a checkpoint for their teleporters.
11:54 this absolutely had to lead to countless cases of “my son was murdered by our home defence system after sneaking back from getting laid or something” 13:33 like that absolutely killed somebody I’m their house after they just stubbed their toe and it fell. BOOM, human Swiss cheese
The fact that Aperture had portal technology for over FIFTY YEARS before anyone else even got close, and just kept it on the back burner for all that time instead of becoming ungodly rich off it really shows how braindead Cave Johnson was.
I still firmyl believe that objectively speaking, Aperture had the better scientists and would in theory (if given the same budget and time as Black Mesa had) quickly surpass Black Mesa as the de facto science company. I mean think about it, even when at the edge of bankruptcy, Aperture was able to invent the portal gun, mobility gels, etc. Black Mesa's greatest technology was teleportation, and that only was made in the late 90s, about a decade after Aperture's famous inventions.
not sure why people would think the song is referring to Chell being Caroline's daughter or the song is proof of GLaDOS being a mother figure, cause like, it's not GLaDOS or Caroline singing to her??? It's the turrets??? Who have never been known to channel GLaDOS' thoughts??
Personal HC that the Turrets encountered in Half Life 2 are the Aperture ones, but were stripped of their AI personality and core, and if all the Turrets have a hive mind, like the Vortiguants, they probably fear the Combine as much as every creature under the Combine’s control. Being a mindless slave for such powerful forces would keep them in line given GLaDOS’s awareness and possible cooperation with the Combine. She could threaten them with being sold to the Combine and they’d obey. And the possible conversion into the Combine Turrets would be their equivalent of Humans being made into Stalkers, and damn right it’d be agonizing
The incinerator seems like a big waste of materials. Imagine if you are making a car and a seat belt isn't working. Instead of replacing the broken part or using the good parts on making a new car they just melted all of it down
Since valve doesn't care about their own games' cannon, neither do I. My personal story is that Chell IS the daughter of the Big CJ and Caroline, and was adopted by a scientist at ApLabs, and when Carol-DoS saw her at Bring Your Daughter to Work Day (not cat, I choose to ignore that like valve ignores the number 3) that was when she decided to act, whether she found out about Chell being adopted beforehand and planned it out, or she didn't know and the memories came to her when she saw Chell on the cameras, end result is the same. Neurotoxin the adults save the children, then glados takes over again and begins testing on everyone, but Chell is always protected by the usually dormant Caroline, and Caroline's last act before being deleted was to force glados to release her, and put a hidden subroutine into the opera turrets to give her a sendoff as she left. Is that rational and logical? Nah. Does it make sense even within the two games own lore? Meh. Close enough for me. Do I still choose to believe it? Heck yeah
Since you said that the combine could break in I’m just thinking like a random shot gunner walking in and then getting shot to hell by like 10 turrets+combine turret on aperture turret combat
It would be awesome if they said something like "I don't want to hurt you or a "Noooo" when they kill us I genuely think they dont want to kill us but they cant control when they shoot

The Sentry Turrets are the most haunting robots by Aperture Science.
So one thing I try to wrap my head around is: How did the combine NOT overrun and strip Aperture Laboratories of all its experimental tech, research, and developments? After all, during the final fight with GlaDOS in Portal, she states that she is the only thing keeping "them" away, implying the combine. So GlaDOS has some method of either concealing Aperture, or shielding it from combine interests, and when she was apparently destroyed, it should have left the facility open to them (after all the sheer amount of teleport energy that was released when she was defeated had to have made a few blips on their radar!) Portal 2 takes place an indeterminate number of centuries from Portal, with how long the facility was left unguarded by GlaDOS, the Combine would have had enough time to arrive, strip it clean, and leave before their supposed defeat. Just makes ya think.
Combine probably don't know about it even existing. Or they couldn't get in because of the technology it has. Maybe it has some kind of emancipation grill dome or something.

The combine vs GLaDOS is something I never knew I needed to see
If we credit the ending, we see chell entering a field of wheat with no combine in sight. If this is 50k years in the future, maybe this proves humanity fought off the combine?
well, that's pretty much the plot of Alyx - beating the combine
Bullets: exists
Defective Turrets: All I want for Christmas is you
"... and so..."
Breh, you drop "... and so..." a good dozen times in nearly every video of yours that I've subjected myself to.
"And so" - was used 5 times in this video after checking the script. It was also used only 2 times in the Civil Protection video before it. Thanks for subjecting yourself to them anyway!
@@Skyrionn lol
If aperture was a main competitor Mesa, then I’m quite surprised we never saw combine having to deal with some of their bullshit
Gah, thank you for specifying the difference between the bullet of a cartridge and the entire cartridge.
Amazing explaination, soothing to hear and understand.
I even remember in portal 2 when chell was crossing the belts containing turret parts she found the oracle turret laying there nearing its demise and since it was still alive she picked him up and saved his life
Love your videos! Thank you for keep making them :)
Thanks Caspar! I have so many more topics to go and I appreciate the continued support!
I always did my best to face turrets into the corners. Though sometimes I accidentally knocked them over
The fire when falling down function sounds like a definite risk for their commercial use. This probably would need to be updated, at least for those specifically.
The turrets are easily my favorite characters in the game, they're just so cute!
*”the ruthless killing machines of aperture”*
Why are they so adorable.
And why do they have such cute personalities
To lure victims into thinking they are harmless, and to make them kid friendly (fr)
I love the turrets haha, you also get one as a companion in the mod Entropy Zero 2 :)
Thank you for the marvelous content. It's so often a pleasant companion in my day.
They are so cute with their soothing voice and Apple design.
Cute sentient centry with adorable voice and voice lines that's gonna shoot you at the spot is Valve dark humor in nutshell.
Every time you make video on half-life or portal l learn something New even when l have played the to death and l like it you make them feel fresh and new.
Keep it going!
Idea:
Halflife:Spearhead
You play as a combine human unit of some kind.
Aparture vs the culbine would be epic
Combine: “oh cool, free stuff, oh wow! A portal gun! We needed that!”
*Glados:*
Glados got owned by an overweight orphan doubt the combine would struggle with turrets
Combine:hippity hopity glados your facility is now our property
Glados: ooh new playthings let's see how you stand up to my neurotoxin.
11:54 this absolutely had to lead to countless cases of “my son was murdered by our home defence system after sneaking back from getting laid or something”
13:33 like that absolutely killed somebody I’m their house after they just stubbed their toe and it fell. BOOM, human Swiss cheese
Controversial opion: i pick the "meaning machine guns" (turret) of HL2 them the portal turret.
True.
What about the toilet turret shown on the last portal based game?
I wish you talked about the animal King more :(
"Why don't you go far away?
Far away from science?
Dear, oh my dear baby girl?"
-click click click-...dang...so anyone got any bullets?
Don't take this the wrong way but when you said "complex" instead of "facility" at 9:57 I was in complete shock and disbelief.
If these were actually sold IRL I’d probably buy one
I used to pile all the turrets at the end of the chamber and throw them into the grill lmao
AYE AY AYA AY AYAA aha, loved that sound.
Technically speaking, you could hug the turret so tight, it -cant- won't shoot you
Loving these videos!
not sure why people would think the song is referring to Chell being Caroline's daughter or the song is proof of GLaDOS being a mother figure, cause like, it's not GLaDOS or Caroline singing to her??? It's the turrets??? Who have never been known to channel GLaDOS' thoughts??
I guess it's just a common fan theory. Personally, I don't buy it but as I mentioned the Turret Orchestra, I felt that I had to mention the theory too
Personal HC that the Turrets encountered in Half Life 2 are the Aperture ones, but were stripped of their AI personality and core, and if all the Turrets have a hive mind, like the Vortiguants, they probably fear the Combine as much as every creature under the Combine’s control.
When combine found aperture.. the chaos start
The incinerator seems like a big waste of materials. Imagine if you are making a car and a seat belt isn't working. Instead of replacing the broken part or using the good parts on making a new car they just melted all of it down
Well to be honest, when you run a self sustaining facility that no one knows exists, material waste is the least of your probkems
I'm glad "Evening at the Emperor's" turrets aren't a thing because they would probably Kamikaze into their target.
Man, I thought I was the only one who faced the turrets at the wall when they were younger.
"I'm different!"
Watching this waiting for Bonelab to install that its making it hard to focus on the video 🤣. Good video as always man.
Thanks for watching! Background views are appreciated also
@@Skyrionn Your welcome Sky. - Guy
It would be awesome if they said something like "I don't want to hurt you or a "Noooo" when they kill us
I genuely think they dont want to kill us but they cant control when they shoot
The Sentry Turrets are the most haunting robots by Aperture Science.
Your videos are the best :)
Glad you like them!
I'm sorry, but the way he talks about some of these ridiculous things like "toilet turrets" in such a serious tone is hilarious to me XD
So one thing I try to wrap my head around is: How did the combine NOT overrun and strip Aperture Laboratories of all its experimental tech, research, and developments?
After all, during the final fight with GlaDOS in Portal, she states that she is the only thing keeping "them" away, implying the combine.
So GlaDOS has some method of either concealing Aperture, or shielding it from combine interests, and when she was apparently destroyed, it should have left the facility open to them (after all the sheer amount of teleport energy that was released when she was defeated had to have made a few blips on their radar!)
Portal 2 takes place an indeterminate number of centuries from Portal, with how long the facility was left unguarded by GlaDOS, the Combine would have had enough time to arrive, strip it clean, and leave before their supposed defeat.
Just makes ya think.
Combine probably don't know about it even existing. Or they couldn't get in because of the technology it has. Maybe it has some kind of emancipation grill dome or something.
I like to think the combine did try to raid aperture but it was too heavily protected to do so
