It was a good game but the limitations of the PSP really dragged down some of the elements like the controls, still i like it.
But really, he just likes girls...
The worst part is that (spoiler) this games Aya is actually, like, a 13 year old girl with amnesia stuck in Aya’s body. So it’s extra disgusting.
Peace Walker had no business being that amazing. Every square inch of RAM and plastic on that PSP was used for the game and it came out beautiful, just the fact that you we're supposed to put the PSP up to your ear like you would listen to a Walkman was so cool.

Man, I played so many hours of peace Walker on my PSP back in the day.
Looking back, the lack of a second analog was pretty annoying and the frame rate was just awful.
But I had a lot of fun with it.
While the lack of a second stick can bother some people (for me personally I had no issues my nearly 200 hours on the PSP version alone is a testimate to this) the FPS is perfectly fine for peace walker it doesnt become an issue until you play the HD port then you realize that the game runs at 20 fps on the PSP which is impressive because you dont realize this when playing on PSP hardware and it doesnt hinder the gameplay because the game was built with that FPS in mind
I would accidentally change of the psp after 1 hour boss battle.
But i still loved it
The Vita can play it two sticks actually, which is cool.

Yeah, i recently got DS and comparing it to PSP is like different generation.
When the first screenshots of PSP games arrived on the Internet, I was sure they were fake. I didn't think those graphics would be possible on a handheld.
Vita is even more impressive
The only things that really dragged it back, IMO, were the memory sticks and awful load times; both of which were (I think) a result of the media being on UMDs. I remember playing Valkyrie Profile and the game took like ten seconds just to load the pause menu.
My PSP was mostly a Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep machine. I bought a bigger memory stick just for this game because all the loading was obnoxious unless you loaded the game onto the memory stick, which of course, took a significant amount of time and memory. Love that game, though.

Midnight Club Still Cancelled Soz Liberty City Stories too, both LCS and VCS are soooo fucking fun and it was crazy being able to play full on GTA games on the go back then

this thing is a memory card that can play multiple mini games through compatible PS1 games.
but the main function is a memory card.
Memories of PSP: It was expensive as hell even for 7th grader like me during those harsh low allowance days. My friend would let me play it after school on imported games like Bleach and Yugioh Tag Force. And although the Nintendo DS is one of my fav generations and has a good sales, PSP has of the great handheld games of it time.
DS was a really great console to, it's just a hair behind psp for me. That really was a golden time for handheld gaming( far better than the home console offerings at the time, at least for me)

PSP is definitely among my favorite gaming devices. I still have two PSP's, two PSP Go's, 160 games and 85 umd movies, all in box. Still love it to this day.

It blew my mind when I saw GTA on the PSP and couldn't believe that a GTA game is in a handheld.
I almost exclusively used my PSP for Final Fantasy titles like Dissidia/Duodecim and FFI/II/IV. I enjoyed Patapon and even have Patapon 2 and maybe 3 (can't remember). It's an underrated handheld with a few sparkling gems and lots of random gray matter, just like all the other handhelds.
I never owned a PSP when growing up tbh. I planned to, of course, but I just never really got around to doing so. But having recently acquired a PS Vita, I can now begin to explore it’s pretty solid library.
Oh man, I remember I begged my parents everyday to buy me a PSP and at the time, it was so damn cool playing GTA on a handheld device.

I believe that the PSP could have been much more successful if it had a second analog stick, and did away with UMDs, opting for cartridges.
And hey, maybe then the PS Vita wouldn't have died so soon too.
Ahhh the PSP, introduced me to ALOT of amazing series such as monster hunter, disgaea, tekken and tons more. Such a good ass library of games!

Every time I have to be reminded of The 3rd Birthday, some of my lifespan is reduced.
4:32 Clarification: You can in fact watch the scene if you meet certain criteria within the chapters, which are hinted in the showers of your base (or Maeda House's Shower), and changes also with the difficulty setting. The 50 loops on the game are for unlocking the scene in the Cutscene viewer that is available in the aformentioned base-like places between chapters.
I remember getting the PSP when it first came out, and waiting for GTA Liberty City Stories. That was a long wait. I never got a Vita, but it's only because it didn't had any games I wanted. A shame I grew up with the Gameboy Color, and it's successors. I miss handheld gaming, cause mobile gaming is not the same. Where's my Chinatown Wars spiritual successor? Or a Portable Ops spiritual successor? Yeah I prefer it over Peace Walker storywise, and less grinding than Peace Walker.
I own a Vita and I agree with you that it was a huge letdown after the high of the psp(as well as lagging behind ds,3ds, switch, and gba imo) but for spiritual successors may I suggest retro city rampage or hotline Miami which are very much in the classic GTA mold(like Chinatown wars) or mgs hd collection on the Vita(though still not an original game)
With vita you can play peace walker at 30fps with dual analog and vice city stories at native resolution and dual analog

hell yeah. I've emulated so many damn games on the thing. The variety of games you can play on it vary from Pepsi man, Fire emblem: Sacred Stones, original Mario Bros. and even Ocarina of Time. The PSP is fucking awesome.

Smaller, more storage for games, better screen, bluetooth controller support, can hook to a TV like a switch, It also has better battery life and comes with a USB charger. The UMD is pointless now that you can just plop the games ISO onto the PSP and play it. Custom firmware is a gift from Tech Jesus.
I was thinking a Vita would be a better upgrade than the Go for the second analogue stick in games like Peace Walker and GTA with the patches.

When the PSP came out it blew my mind away. I remember looking at my game boy color hoping one day I can play games like GTA 3 on handheld. I swear PSP was way ahead of its own time.

As far as the steamy shower scene in The 3rd Birthday, you don’t have to beat the game 50 times to get it. Each chapter has somewhat of a bonus objective (mainly either not letting anyone die, time completed, or in chapter 4 while in the helicopter killing almost all of the twisted).
I got initiated to the Metal Gear franchise with Peace Walker on the PSP, I love that game

The 3rd Birthdays Shower scene is A+, unlocked it easily.
The game has good gameplay, even when the story was not that well compared to the previous titles.

Speaking of weapon description in Disgae 2. There is a weapon callrd the berserker. The description is "its love for you is like a truck." Which is a reference to Clerks with Jay and Silent bob hanging outside the shop.
I remember a PSP game called Untold Legends back around 2005 or so, and although the game itself was pretty nice (mostly due to being a Diablo clone), it had the most horrendous load times of any game I've ever played. Literally 30-40 second load screens every time you went to a different area.
Man that game was one of my favorite games of all time. My friend gave me a copy so we could play together during and after high school. Still one of my favorite games to this day. Didn't care much for the second one. But yeah those load times, if the game wasn't so amazing I would have been irritated by it. And those stupid things that would charge you, knock you down, and disappear in dungeons
I always have been a nintendo fanboy but when my parents told me to choose between a NintendoDS or a PSP for my birthday back in the day I choose the PSP without thinking, one of the better decisions I've ever made in my life XD

When I see some greedy company asking for a 1 minute ad at the start of a video, it actually makes me not want to buy their product, just FYI, don't be greedy kids, a 20 second spot shows respect for your viewers and gets your message across just fine.
I used it as a web browser, mp3 player, video player and that was all before I had custom firmware which just made it the best thing ever.
For anyone interested, most PSP games emulate *fantastically* on your computer with a 2nd generation core i3 or newer, with 4gb ram and integrated graphics. You'll be able to double the games' internal resolution and even get local multiplayer with other computers, mildly powerful phones, and real PSPs working. Look into the emulator PPSPP, it's awesome!
I think Sony would make a killing if they made an emulator for the PS4 for playing PSP games.
The PS3 can do it albeit only with CFW.
So I see no reason why Sony couldn't do it.
They did already; Parappa The Rapper Remastered is actually the PSP game being run in some experimental HD emulator for PS4, which replaces the original textures with HD recreations of them, although it's not perfect.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 and the ports of Kingdom Hearts 1,2 and Chain of Memories are actually PS2 emulators tailored to perfectly play those games.

The PSP had some insanely good releases. Tactics Ogre pretty much set the bar for remakes, Armored Core managed to get most of their 3rd gen on there, and Peace Walker was awesome, not even mentioning Monster Hunter's releases.
I had a PSP long year ago and it's gone but thankfully I had downloaded an emulator so I have played games that play before like MHFU, Warriors Orochi 2, Need for Speed Underground Rivals, Gundam vs Gundam Next Plus and it was so fun to play your favorite PSP games like a mobile game

When it comes to the PSP vs the DS both portables were MASSIVE successes with the psp selling around 80 million total and the DS being the second best selling console of all time with the top obviously being the ps2 but when the quality of the games on PSP damn so good many great ports from console games in many cases looking damn near exactly like the ps2 counter part as well as great sister games to ps2 games such as the socom fire team bravo series having great cross unlocks between each other as well as a fantastic multiplayer
As someone who owns MGS peace walker on PSP I can 100% say with confidence it deserved to be labeled MGS 5 (phantom pain is still fantastic btw) they pushed the console to its limits with it holding a rock solid 20 fps which honestly during the entirety of my 200 hours on the psp I didnt feel it whatsoever until I played HD not to mention the massive amount of other great games on the system such as
FF7 crisis core
God of war chains of Olympus and ghost of sparta
Both socom fire team bravo games
Blazblue calamity trigger
Street fighter alpha 3 max
Starwars force unleashed
Persona 3 portable
Persona 2 innocent sin

Dissidia final fantasy and so many other not to mention the massive back log of ps1 games as well as the Minis the psps inky draw back was its memory cards which was later fixed with the micro USB adapters which made it easy to get up to 64 gigs for less then 50 bucks and the homebrew scene nowadays makes it even more worth it

The PSP was a wonderful handheld, and I had hours of fun exploring official and unofficla software for the system. My only wish is that some of the titles had PC releases, because - let's face it - Peace Walker has super awkward controls compared to the rest of the franchise. I'd probably be happier with MGS1/2 style.
And for those of you who say "just emulate it," I am. The controls are just as awkward.

I have that Tsunami Bomb album. I had no idea its title track was in a video game, let alone a Japanese tactical RPG.

Before we changed from BBFC, game shops could have BBFC stickers so they could cover over European/incorrect/American imports/games ratings with the correct BBFC ones too. Or at least, they did in my shop's company.

That's exactly the point, though: leaving that portrayal in would also be inherently risky and controversial. Either you don't change the skin tone and get accused of racial stereotyping (if that's the only character in the game with a dark skin tone, people aren't gonna be happy), or you do change the skin tone and attempt to keep race an irrelevant part of the character's portrayal. Either way is gonna be messy and somebody would inevitably have a problem with it; they simply chose the option they felt was least risky and most acceptable.

Before you say the DS was more successful to the PSP, the DS was cheaper being $150 when it was released selling 154 million units where as the PSP was $250 and sold over 80 million units. The DS made $23.1 billion or so dollars and the PSP made 20 billion or so dollars only being 3 billion short (13% short) from the DS. (Prices for devices might have dropped over time but shouldn't create that big of a gap between the 2 platforms). So the PSP did really well looking at this. The games on the DS typically sold a lot more than on the DS than the PSP though. Only 12 games or so sold higher than 1 million copies on the PSP where as 70 or so DS games sold over a million copies and sold more than PSP games. (Cool that Disgaea was here. Hope for a DYKG on it.)

It used to be the BBFC issuing ratings for games but not anymore. Now the UK has the same system as the rest of Europe : PEGI (for now...).

The PSP was a ton of fun. Don’t knocked it out of the park with their first handheld which makes it all the more amazing they screwed up so bad with the Vita.

@@glesser86 I can't really blame Sony, outside of the price gouging, for the Vita. The fact is console manufacturers can only really handle one system at a time (limited resources while juggling 2 systems means you can pour your resources into making the handheld great and the home suffers,ala PS3 being a letdown during the psp era or what Nintendo use to do; or vise versa, favoring the home as they did favoring ps4 and leaving the Vita to for dead). it's impossible to successfully juggle both.

Your fact about The 3rd Birthday's shower scene isn't entirely true. You can achieve it simply by finishing the game once and then earning one feat in your New Game+. That's why so many players had already seen it one month after release. The 50 clears thing supposedly works, but who would waste that much time? The only thing that legitimately takes a lot of time in that game is unlocking Lightning's FF13 costume for Aya.
I have plethora of psp memories. From friends playing theirs from me playing mine to kids with emulators on them in 2007. My boy chris would play need for speed carbon on it i always thought it was the more cleaner looking games besides the unsightly car graphics. Hed play "i feel like dying" by lil wayne. So dope i played that game later on when i got my sister to get me a psp for myself. I couldnt much games for it i had the mentioned nfs carbon game,dirt 2,wipeout, a national treasure 2 movie umd,nfs most wanted,spectral souls (crummy condition), and littlebip planet psp. Id mostly play lbp. The story quest was lame and probably the stalest psp letsplay you could watch. But getting online was always exciting for me, the lbp community really pushed what the game could and brought a charm to the levels id never seen before besides the console lbp quest. 2010 i was gifted more great games but soon after my brother smashed my psp to bits.he was in a bad place at that time,still best his ass for that. I later gave my games away to a kid my age at the time. But he let me beat midnight club la remix on it. That game was the swan somg of my psp journey. Good times. Still got a vita tho and played the shit out of lbp vita. Best game ever

@4:41 This is misinformation, you don't need to complete the game 50 times in order to "enjoy" the shower scene, you need to complete 1 specific sub objective during any of the missions to watch it while you visit the showers at the agency's HQ where Aya lives.
You CAN unlock the shower scene in the video viewer if you complete the game the said 50 times but its not really necesary, also if you watch the shower scene 50 times you unlock the "behind" camera option where the game's camera focuses on Aya's ass during gameplay.

Aya's shower scene does NOT require to beat the game 50 times. I played the game and got the scene on my first play through. Though I don't know what the actual unlock requirement is, many people that played the game has different ideas, but it's still unknown what they actually are.
