I love this series so much. It’s actually what got me into dnd before critical role and all that. I still think this is my favorite dnd content on RUclips.
Vondur A lot of people say it's a waste of money and useless to have all the miniatures and whatnot. "It takes away from your imagination!!". IMO it helps, especially in combat scenarios. When I see "hey, there's specifically a tree in that spot, how about I use it to my advantage?". Playing with no clue what the area looks like other than what the DM tells me and what I imagine, I wouldn't do things like that. Going even further. Say youre eavesdropping on someone talking in a building. Where is the window? Exactly? Can I be seen? Sure those are questions you could ask, but all that does is distract from the actual game and takes time. Miniatures or even large drawn on grids always makes a game better tbh.
One of the groups I play with use Tabletop Simulator to draw out the town and interaction layouts. We sort-of have miniatures in the form of a picture on a circle-stand, and in my lazy case, a chess piece. It's not as nice as the mini-towns and figures, but it gets the job done.

I'm commenting super late on this, but I finally realized why Sam asked everyone to roll those d4s. Spoliers inbound. Niko rolled the lowest, and lost his family. Brandon rolled a 2, and had to find his wife and son across the campaign. D rolled the highest, and his wife was fine.
What was the last one tho? Maybe the last was they were able to hide from them so they were in no threat (which D’s wife was in trouble when they got there but wasn’t killed yet like Niko’s). But yea I noticed this too the first time I watched this (now I’m on my like 5th time watching this 😂).
last time I played d&d was 38 years ago. played as an Elf thief. I still have my original player stats with 10+ pages of wespons, items, gold pc. never threw them away. wife thinks I'm a nerd for keeping them. haven't played since. ruled d&d with my invisibility cloak and dagger of venom.

@@isilduur7848 At lv 20 u can do insane amount of dmg. It is lv 20 after all (your basically gods at that point). If u build a good character and make a good build yea. If not then of course u won’t. It’s all about optimizing. What I try and do is make a dumb build and try and optimize it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Can't believe this video is four years old today already. This series literally got me into DnD immediately. Went out and bought 5e core books as soon as it ended and have been playing ever since.
I remember that time I was a DM in a d&d game. my sister was a part of the team; she was completely new to the game and made her character. she was half human, half wolf, and her class was a mage. Not even 10 minutes into the game, and she gets ambushed my hunters trying to capture and sell her cuz she was a demi-human and all that jazz. She ends up killing 11 of them by herself before a theif snuck up behind her and killed her. Although her death was the quickest I've ever seen in a d&d game, she did pretty damn good in the fight; she kept rolling straight 20's in her attacks.
last time I played i got my arm ripped off by a hydra and I had 1 hit point left I then rolled a straight twenty and my arm grew back and punched a hole straight through its help.
connor staggs last time I played I ripped a guy's arms off in the middle of a city, and then kept rolling 20s killing the city guard with the arms. My friends didn't get involved. I just kept rolling really high
Honestly, I have probably watched this 10 times over the years. I find it much more entertaining than Critical Role or any of the other gameplays of D&D on the internet. Applying your editing style to D&D creates the most entertaining D&D series I have ever seen, and I really hope to see more of this in the future!

I think you guys just did more positive PR for DnD than 40 years of advertising ever could. As an old school gamer who played Basic DnD in secret because everyone told us it was "evil" I thank you for lifting the veil. Wish you were there during my childhood.

This might be weird, but I watched a playthrough of “Life is Strange: Before the Storm” (played by MKfireandIce) and there was a segment where they played D&D. I immediately became interested, searched RUclips, and now I’m here. lol. I’m excited to watch!

Find some friends who are interested and get the 5th edition Player Handbook and the Dungeon Masters guide, some dice, miniatures and you're ready to go.
I got the Starter Set, and downloaded the Player's Basic Rules and DM's Basic Rules. There's so much to take in! I'm DMing the Lost Mines of Phandelver for 2 of my friends, and we're all learning as we go

You guys should make a game where you are looking at a table in vr. It could combine this and the vr playlists and viewers. how I picture it is 4 vr headers and setups but the table between you would be epic and sprawling with animations and effects

Danielle Beerling One time I accidentally said something, and I forgot I was actually speaking in the game. So when a little child asked where her mummy was, I shouted "SHE'S DEAD." I tried to rectify my mistake by saying that they might be alive, but had ran away. Being a tiefling (half demon person), I probably looked more than a little intimidating.
Once I may or may not have rolled a 1 on a *MILDLY IMPORTANT ROLL* that affected the entire campaign. I may or may not have crushed a paladin by accident. Lol
One time my friend rolled a 1 on his attack, so naturally he spun in a 180 and his axe buried itself into my chest. I had the lowest health in the party, and the attack left me with 1 HP, and that was only because the DM realised it would've been a shit way for me to die and made the attack do less damage. Next session, same friend rolls a 1 and almost kills me again. Needless to say my cleric always "forgot" that he can heal whenever my friend needed it.

However, the God isn't in constant possession, and the God and him go back and forth over control of his body. The two tend to bicker and argue over what the body should do at times, and they have different personalities, so it's sort of like a split-personality.

This is really good. I quickly realized that watching the dog as it was watching them was pretty entertaining. You can see it switch from player to DM and back again thinking "Wtf are they doing ?". It responds to their emotions and looks really confused. Great entertainment.

That's the basic rules you can download. If you are planning on playing properly I would recommend buying the rule books as they are a lot more useful and in-depth. but to start this is all you will need. All you will really need is the 5th edition Players Handbook, the 5th edition Dungeon masters guide, some miniatures and dice which you can get all for around $100. The handbook and DM guide has all the rules and tips you will need to start playing like a pro! Good luck on your adventures!
Cerberusarms StarCraftEssentials I took a look at the website that StarCraftEssentials provided and it has both the books that D mentioned, just have to figure out how much it'll cost to send to the UK and I'll pick up the miniatures from a local Game's Workshop. I have the dice cause my mum has just found the dice that she and my father used to use before my Mum's character got thrown into a volcano by a dragon cause her ex-boyfriend was the Dungeon Master... There are plenty of placers to buy them in the UK. I'm in England and just ordered them from amazon. I hope you and your friends have fun. Oh and an amazing thing i use as my friends are scattered all of the UK is Roll 20. It lets you play with an online virtual table. Makes it so we can play a lot more than if we all had to be together.

Just had my first dnd session earlier. Took two hours to beat an ambush of 4 goblins. Our archer kept missing his shots and even shot me in the knee while I was down and doing my save throws. And our Fighter never stopped sharpening his sword through the whole fight. Best. First fight. Ever

My friends and I are beginners abd started playing the basic miniature version of it last week (friend's younger brother had it laying around) and just bought the new 5th edition early in the week, along with the DM and players handbook. Find some friends who are interested and get the 5th edition Player Handbook and the Dungeon Masters guide, some dice, miniatures and you're ready to go.
Node You don't need miniatures, you just need a grid mat and some coins.
I got the Starter Set, and downloaded the Player's Basic Rules and DM's Basic Rules. There's so much to take in! I'm DMing the Lost Mines of Phandelver for 2 of my friends, and we're all learning as we go

You guys should make a game where you are looking at a table in vr. It could combine this and the vr playlists and viewers. how I picture it is 4 vr headers and setups but the table between you would be epic and sprawling with animations and effects

Danielle Beerling One time I accidentally said something, and I forgot I was actually speaking in the game. So when a little child asked where her mummy was, I shouted "SHE'S DEAD." I tried to rectify my mistake by saying that they might be alive, but had ran away. Being a tiefling (half demon person), I probably looked more than a little intimidating.
Once I may or may not have rolled a 1 on a *MILDLY IMPORTANT ROLL* that affected the entire campaign. I may or may not have crushed a paladin by accident.

I accidentally shot my bard and killed him after rolling max damage.
One time my friend rolled a 1 on his attack, so naturally he spun in a 180 and his axe buried itself into my chest. I had the lowest health in the party, and the attack left me with 1 HP, and that was only because the DM realised it would've been a shit way for me to die and made the attack do less damage. Next session, same friend rolls a 1 and almost kills me again. Needless to say my cleric always "forgot" that he can heal whenever my friend needed it.
Node, i hope you read this, but this campaign was one of the best i have ever seen! I enjoyed every moment of the game and it was hillarious! You made the best d&d gameplay i have ever seen, pls do play again! wanna watch more of this! You made me laugh multiple of times during this!
Of all the D&D recorded games on RUclips “Call of the Wild” is my favorite… you guys really captured a great vibe and dynamic. I’ve listened to it multiple times. You have to do another one like this!! It’s been years bring these characters and players back! 🙏🏻

I'm DMing a 5e game at my local game store (Board Game Barrister) in Milwaukee, WI (45 minutes from where Sir Gygax lived, btw) every other Thursday starting 3/12/15. And this video is quite inspirational! I also went to university for TV & Film Production and can confidently say that your production value is superb! Whoever directs and edits this is awesome!

Stavol2Dual Probably some sort of elf, but it's a paladin whose God actually possesses him. However, the God isn't in constant possession, and the God and him go back and forth over control of his body. The two tend to bicker and argue over what the body should do at times, and they have different personalities, so it's sort of like a split-personality.

This is really good. I quickly realized that watching the dog as it was watching them was pretty entertaining. You can see it switch from player to DM and back again thinking "Wtf are they doing ?". It responds to their emotions and looks really confused. Great entertainment.

That's the basic rules you can download. If you are planning on playing properly I would recommend buying the rule books as they are a lot more useful and in-depth. but to start this is all you will need.

All you will really need is the 5th edition Players Handbook, the 5th edition Dungeon masters guide, some miniatures and dice which you can get all for around $100. The handbook and DM guide has all the rules and tips you will need to start playing like a pro! Good luck on your adventures!

I took a look at the website that StarCraftEssentials provided and it has both the books that D mentioned, just have to figure out how much it'll cost to send to the UK and I'll pick up the miniatures from a local Game's Workshop.
I have the dice cause my mum has just found the dice that she and my father used to use before my Mum's character got thrown into a volcano by a dragon cause her ex-boyfriend was the Dungeon Master... Good times await me and my friends.

There are plenty of placers to buy them in the UK. I'm in England and just ordered them from amazon. I hope you and your friends have fun.
Oh and an amazing thing i use as my friends are scattered all of the UK is Roll 20. It lets you play with an online virtual table. Makes it so we can play a lot more than if we all had to be together.

Just had my first dnd session earlier. Took two hours to beat an ambush of 4 goblins. Our archer kept missing his shots and even shot me in the knee while I was down and doing my save throws. And our Fighter never stopped sharpening his sword through the whole fight. Best. First fight. Ever
Of course D's character is a lone wolf.
This is great, can't wait for more. The only other Rollplay I've ever watched was the ones itmejp does but I enjoyed them.
