*Vin Diesel rolls a critical*
"These wraiths are strong... BUT NOT AS STRONG AS FAMILY"
Thank you
Yes!!!!!
you can see yourself out now XD
Vin is is never gonna be able to escape the trope he's placed on himself....EVER. XD
I wheezed so hard I nearly spat out my water. XD
*Purpose of the video* : Vin Diesel playing D&D
*What everyone enjoyed* : Matt Mercer’s DM skills
Wasn't that what I was supposed to enjoy? Oh...
@Alexis ... The truth has been spoken!!!
Alexis Raúl Colón Pérez .
Right? I clicked for the pun alone (okay, also the fact that Vin plays D&D is pretty damn cool, he's great), but Mercer's an awesome DM, really sucks you in with his acting chops. I'm gonna find more D&D stuff with him in it now.
This is very true. I'm upset that he didn't participate more.
This video made me think: "Are professional DMs a thing?"
yes they are
Indeed they are. And Matt Mercer is one of my favorites. Check out Critical Role if you haven't yet!
you can actually go on crag's list and hire a professional DM who normally work by the hour.
Austin Furber Very cool! I'd pay good money for a great DM, and it sounds like it'd be a fuckin awesome job!
Some people certainly have a knack for it and make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
Vin Diesel smiling at Mercer storytelling was magnificent, it's almost as though he fanboyed a little haha.
Most players would probably fan boy a bit at his table, as a DM the guy really goes above and beyond.
So what people are saying is:
1. Matt is a good DM (and I agree with that opinion)
2. Vin was stoned when they recorded it.
@Dźwiedź24 Basically both can be true at the same time.
@@theepicduck6922 oh, both are!
Can we get Sir Ian McKellen on this?......
I just wanna see Gandalf play Gandalf
@James Kessler MIND: BLOWN!!!
Too bad we can't get Christopher Lee in a game. Rest in peace.
How about Ewan McGregor?
Yes! Yes yes yes! This is the dream
Andy Serkis would be another option for this one I think.
The DM can really make or break your immersion. Very impressed!
Makes sense, a voice actor
and jotaro from jjba
Matthew Mercer ftw
And Crom from Fire Emblem
and gangplank from league
Just a reminder:
Don't expect every DM to be Mercer.
But expect a good DM to strive to be like him
@@thesepretzelssuckass247 Well said my friend, you are completely right.
@@thesepretzelssuckass247 or they could do their own thing.
@@joshkaid Well a bit of both. No one should try and emulate another DM's style. DMing is like writing a book. Everyone has their own writing style and vision. They can try and completely copy someone else's style to some extent but it will never have the same effect on others. But rather than copy, picking up on the other writers methods and adapting them to develop your own writing will improve the books overall quality.
Bort I like this.
The fact this session was originally suppose to be a few hours and they had to force matt to condense his story into 30 minutes is the biggest shame.
I really dont understand why they did that

It feels like Vin was supposed to be the focus, but he totally failed to RP at all, so they only got 30 minutes of footage that had him at all participating. I used to think he was a good actor, not so much anymore.
Every one jokes and laughs along until the DM starts narrating, everyone hushes and listens in carefully. The smiles and joy immediately vanishes from each and every face. LOVE. IT!
matt mercer is an amzing DM if you dont, you should watch him dm on critical role
that's always our issue when we play DnD. We have certain members that never know when to stop. We'll have a laugh about something, then the DM will start describing stuff, and certain people (more just one guy that everyone hates, but the DM is too nice to give the boot) will jump in to hijack the narrative and make a joke. Really sucks the fun out when they keep breaking the immersion
@@cryofist I think Matt Mercer and Griffin McElroy are the two best DM's in existence. For completely different reasons...but /agree.
@@Trojianmaru I have two of these guys in my group. They take often more than half a hour from our playtime with this behaviour. Thats why keep I my narrating to an absolute minimum in this group. And still we don't make much progress in a session.

I want a D&D movie where Terry Crews, Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson all play D&D together and the campaign comes to life like Jumanji

I feel like Jumanji would totally infect a TTRPG. And it would be AMAZING.

One is the bard and seduces the dragon while dancing
It was this video that made me 1) Aware of what D&D was all about, 2) Who Matt Mercer was, 3) Actively begin watching Critical Role and 4) Lose hundreds of hour watching a bunch of nerdy-@$$ voice actors play Dungeons and Dragons,
Good times.
Same! And I'm so glad I did. I ended up getting my wife and all my friends into D&D after I watched this video 3 years ago. And we haven't turned back since.
For a great shorter game, check out Fantasy High on college humor.. it's cool, it's orcs and elves with cellphones, a demonic possessed pet motorcycle, and AV club nerds in HIGHSCHOOL! Hahah and Brennan is an amazing DM! It's so cool and its 17eps I think and it is so worth a watch, they get crazy! At one point a goblin Detective with a pistol skates a giant stone gollum with a halfpipe on his back, he uses his briefcase to skate the ramp and fire his gun at the beast! lol zthey do backflips onto motorcycles, there is a high speed car chase with a demon biker gang throwing molotovs into traffic, as well as some anarchist hobbits. Also, gnomes may or may not drive a tank into battle... hahahaha
No joke. If that sounds cool, check it out because that barely scratches the surface! Haha

+Shane Wiedrick Scanlan is the best
+UnNuclear I like Tiberius myself, but yeah scanlan has made me literally laugh out loud!
+Ariescz For sure. I recently began playing D&D proper for the first time, and it was clear that the DM had no idea what was happening, and had no desire to learn. I took his spot and have been running the games since.
So Vin Diesel gains a level every 100 years.
Paladin Demo bahaha

the rulebook specifically mentions that the level is a measurement of experience in adventuring and unrelated to previous experience as i.e. a soldier or a brigand.
Great job by everyone, especially the dramatic and descriptive DM!
+Tom Miskey Matt Mercer is the best! Tune into twitch.tv/geekandsundry 7PM PT every Thursday :)
+Geek & Sundry Seriously in my 24 years of roleplaying in countless group I've never come across any DM even half as talented in describing as Matt. I truly envy the G&S crew. He is such a genius.
+Waldgeist Awww! We will pass it on. We agree 100%
he was an Excellent DM. Only gripe, was that he has to do a full description of the Monks actions, where as The Dwarven rogue was very descriptive in his actions, and played the role great (tho very acrobatic Dwarves after a hilarious rare bunch). The monk has to step up her game some. all n all, great short session
Kevyn Hansyn I agree. The best situation of course is if the players let the dice speak and then add the descriptive flavor for their own actions themselves. But more often than not players are not as willing to describe as the GM is and if he jumps in at this point to heighten the mood, I am all for it.
*Yes I'm a professional actor and am ready for anything any script or improv can throw at me, been doing this for 15 years now...*

@@QuasarPsychosis Brennan from Dimension20 holds up pretty well. Mercer actually was a player in one of his campaigns.
Holy crap. Is that really how most D&D games go? Does the DM just completely improvise or do they have to study the scenario or what? I am shocked at how seemingly easy the DM just runs with it.
typedeaf Most DM’s have notes and a good idea of the story characters and what scenario to put them through . But being able to improvise is something you have to be able to. And no, not all DM’s are as great as Matt Mercer, he’s just really fucking good at what he does
I've never seen anyone dm like him before. Most DM's tend to have a general outline and make it up as you go but, Mat just makes it seems so smooth that you wouldn't know he pulled it out of his arse in 2 seconds worth of thinking time.
So so true. I've never thought of watching D&D until we came across some Critical Role vids. And I'm hooked! I have so often been amazed at how easily he switches or anticipates on whatever beautiful crap the players come up with, that is seems like he knows exactly what about to happen. He's a master DM. So much respect for this guy.
With a good DM you can't tell the difference between improv and script and you will never know when dice rolls get fudged or the "rule "of awesome is used. It can be an incredible experience.
typedeaf Mercer did one interview (or it was just chat after one of the Critical Role sessions) where he was talking about how he had this massive thing planned for one of the characters and an NPC that were supposed to meet up, however the character decided to do something else and go off alone, and he had to make up the rest of the episode which was about an hour and a half on the fly. If he hadn't said anything I don't think anyone would have noticed!

Carsomyr I mean this is with a God-tier DM and voice actors that are skilled roleplayers, so this is a very high quality version of DnD that a lot of sessions struggle to match. But the mechanics and theory behind the session are all accurate to how the game functions, yes!
This is what D&D can be, but it depends on the investment of the people involved. You have to be open and not afraid to make noises, or sound funny with fail accents, and just let loose, have fun~

Urchie2009 from what I know, it's pretty similar, but has martial arts styles and rather than races, everyone is human, but some are embued with the spirits of other races, giving them different physical and mental characteristics. I only recently started looking into it, so I don't know much about it.
Vin Diesel has been into DND for a long time his character in the game is one of his tattoos
the true magic is making 5 people appear in the same room at the same time
+spels47 This is my problem with gaming groups lol.
+spels47 wish my group could gets its stuff together. i just want to play more and slay more
+spels47 I have the opposite problem. I have like 7 pcs and only me as DM. Shit gets crowded and crazy.
yeah we have only one guy who can always dm too though im trying to get my campaign complete so he can play too
One day man. Like don't get me wrong, I love my PCs, and I love DMing, but i feel D&D's perfect number is 4-5 PCS. Anything more and it takes so long for each player for their chance at rolling a dice that they get distracted.
Holy crap so I’m guessing the movie he made called The Last Witchhunter is literally just an adventure he thought up for his D&D character
This guy has to be the best DM I've ever seen...
+standingunder As many others have mentioned in the comments here, Mr Matt Mercer runs a live D&D game on the Geek and Sundry twitch channel, Thursday nights at 7:00 pm PST. The cast are all voice actors, Mercer included. G&S has all the episode here on their RUclips channel too. I highly suggest checking it out; great group of fun, talented, and awesome people.
***** Yeah, nothing against Wil. He's awesome as well.
+DaBomb8493 I feel like Wil leaves more up to the players whereas this guy tends to be more of a narrator DM. Wil will ask the players to describe both the world and the actions in some instances wheras this guy seems to more often describe it all himself but in doing so makes the whole experience more cinematic because of the way he describes it all. I personally think both are pretty great and enjoy watching this kinda thing and Wil's games. They're both pretty cool though.
+Thomas Coull Have you watched Critical Role? This is a short session that probably has to be short, but seriously if you haven't checked out Critical Role, please do. It will most likely change your opinion of Matt.
+DaBomb8493 Yeah, he talks a little too fast; but he's pretty good!
Dm: you see a female figure an...
Barb: kick door
Dm:... wha...
Nat 20
Barb: attack woman
Dm:....come on man
Thats how it usually goes for us
rickty rickty wrecked thats when you make her a legendary and flip the script and almost kill them 🙄
Murderhobos are no fun lol
@@digheanurag lmfao
@@boosterprime5757 murderhobos are all of the fun. Lol
Same. I was really pissed at my group. They basicaly murdered a couple because they were mages.
you left it at a good setup for future sessions. call up diesel again!
so true, more with Vin, hook it up
to expensive
Carl-Fredrik L
Nah, he actually loves DnD
This little one-shot is amazing. The way Matt narrated and described everything was awesome.
I have been playing D&D for over 30 years and he is the best DM I have ever seen.
He's the DM for the show Critical Role. You can find all the episodes here on RUclips. They're all pretty long but they also start out with announcements and stuff. Can usually find comments documenting moments in the video, including the "game actually starts" point.
I envy you. I shared a stupid prejudice against DnD considering it "a nerdy meh thing" before.
What a freaking idiot I was...
Well, as long as you're past that now you're good! Time was lost but it can still be made up! :D
I've played with people as good as him. Hell I've played with better gms (if slightly).
Then I finished university and played with below average groups for a bit.
:(
Really great gamemasters are few and far between. You need someone who's a good storyteller and also he needs decent players to work with.
A lot of roleplaying devolves very easily into just "Fight some monsters. Level up your characters. Rinse. Repeat."
When you do find a group who's great though, hooboy.
Vin Diesel was definitely into it, but needs some practice with his role playing just a little :) let it flow man!
Vin diesel used to play this as a kid
+ThePastyPrince Yeah, I think heard him say that in a radio interview once
I don't know man He's playing probably the least verbose of characters rigidity seems somewhat consistent with the character concept. The fact that he took the time to rep the game is just awesome.
He's been playing for over 20 years and has had a fake tattoo of his characters name on his stomach during the filming of triple x. I'm pretty certain he's played dnd quite a lot longer than most people.
The only people flowing were the 3 Critical Role members. The rest were guests and guests always feel a bit more reserved. After an episode or two they'd all loosen up.
Whaat a great DM!!! I want MOAR!!!!
+nikoshurricane Share with your friends!
+Geek & Sundry I would give one kidney for a DM like him!
+WolfBlaz I wish!!
Every Thursday night on Twitch.
What channel on twitch though
Vin's voice kinda suits the character. Let's be honest, everynody's voices are high-quality stuff, it's impressive.
This is so pro, it's almost a stage play. Production values, SFX, music, pro actors/voice actors, props, fog. Quite a contrast of what I remember back in '79 when I stopped playing :) Gygax would be proud.
Even that DM screen is a work of art.
Awesome! :) I really hope Vin Diesel joins Critical Role as a guest character. This short storyline sounds like a solid intro story to keep on expanding! Also I bet everyone there (especially Matt) jumped into the air when he learned he was DM'ing for Vin Diesel :) I love it!!!
+Emile Vinesh OMG! That would be amazing
I agree with you.
+Geek & Sundry after I saw the 10th episode of Critical Role. My first thought was, can Vin Diesel bring his D&D character in
I agree I would love it if he joined your group for that and as part of the main group too
+Emile Vinesh Vax does owe that hag they met a favor, does he not? >:D
It's official. If ever there's a Highlander remake, Vin Diesel HAS to play The Kurgan.
There. Can. Be. Only. ONE. !!1!one!1 (
Highlander is one of the few classic movies I'd really like to see remade, because, while being a great film, it's far from being flawless and there are quite some things a good director and talented actors could improve upon (following the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"-rule).
That would be really dope, I Could even see him being The Highlander himself. No reason that he has to be Christopher Lambert-ish. Though maybe an unknown Scotsman would be the best.
MrFireCowboy but who could play a better Connor Macleod than Christopher Lambert??
Brandon Johnson fucking nobody
The perfect pandemic activity. Me and my kids are leading the charge to the lost mines of Phandelver.
Mine too!!
Mine is just a year old but I hope there is something like a lockdown by the time she is able to play and understand :)
I just picked everything up this week! My kids are under 2 but I'll be ready for them when they can play!
@@futurecaredesign God, no, bro.
@@user-rv9um5xc3r That's called a joke ;)
Have yet to be attracted to D&D, till now. That was fornicating unreal!
check out critical role, same dm with easily over 150 hours of d&d.
Seriously! I discovered Critical Role a week or so ago and am hooked trying to catch up so that I can watch them live!
Check out acquisitions incorporated.
Ryosuke19 Niiice!
Kai1 Cool Bananas!
Whoever says D&D is for nerds should watch this video... One of the most badass men in the world playing one badass game...
Grim gamer tv and also vin diesel is here as well
It is for nerds, Vin just happens to be one, and nerds arne't what they used to be.
everyone is trying to be a nerd these day they thinks its cool now
Rockwood Tacoma That’s because it is
Its who you hang out with. I played a lot in high school. We had a jock, goth, cheerleader and me lol but they were in theater so maybe that's why they played. Im still trying to find a dnd game to play
never played D&D before or watched it really, but the guy who's the DM i think its called? can make some genuinely awesome sound effects, and the guy playing the barbarian needs to do audio books that'd be amazing
In multiple places they overlayed digital sound effects over his to enhance it, but he himself can still make good ones
ah gotcha, was surprised he wasn't a voice actor with the sounds he was making here, he still has a good voice though, and he seems to make it a lot of fun.
TheTemplarnight so naive! He, vexhalia (Laura) and Grog (Travis) are all voice actors! Look up critical role, if you liked this you'll love that
Best part is that the dm is the voice actor for mcree in overwatch
They both are voice actors.
Matt Mercer is such a god like DM
I just started playing DnD and to be honest DMing is my favorite and I hope to be as magnificent as Mercer is.
I wish I could DM half as well as this guy!
+RK Malo I would buy a D&D set if it came packaged with Matt Mercer.
Qi Machine hahaha. Awesome!
Meh...I'd rather play an mmo such as WoW. No DM needed
+RK Malo I know how you fell. I put a lot of emotion in my games, and expression is not my strong suite. I should take acting lessons!
Takes a time, though I do Suggest peeking Matt Mercers DMing tips as well as watching Critical roll and the TItansGrave Videos With Will Wheaton
All these talented people playing D&D and then there's Jessica Chobot...
+Dragonbrad I watched this all ready to refute your comment... But nope. You're right. Owch.
+Dragonbrad What was wrong with her? I'm not disagreeing, I've just never played DnD before.
Clarke Steinman I'm sure she'd be fine to play WITH, but everyone else did such an amazing job of acting and she was just...not.
Oh ok. Yeah, she was half hearted at best.
I liked her... seems like a good addition to me.
Diesel used to be alright because riddick was badass.... now I see Diesel as a true to life Badass... Diesel is too ballin
No balls. Not ballin. He's Rollin. Rollin hard too.
Wow, that DM is amazing! His characterisations are brilliant, he's so quick with the descriptions! Just brilliant!
Check out Critical Role, a show where he plays D&D with his voice actor friends. Literally hundreds of hours with him in the DM chair.
Vin Diesel's voice is UNBELIEVABLE. Holy crap. It's audio porn.
omg yass
what if... VD has an ASMR channel?
it's because he drinks diesel for breakfast
Jesus Christ this man is a story teller.
Vin Diesel?
Nathaniel Heather Matt mercer
Now I want to play D&D, but I lack friends...
Same here xD Also new at roleplaying so that makes it even harder. hmm from your avatar: Do you play star wars the old republic mmo?
There are a lot of places you can find online parties and play some pen and paper RPGs like D&D or Pathfinder. Roll20 is probably the most popular free one and there are plenty of GMs on there looking for players. If you've ruled out real life sessions might as well try it there.
judgedeath3 No but I've played KotOR 1 & 2.
Check out your local hobby shop! There's often a corkboard with info for people looking for RPG groups
SAAAAAME
Damn leave it to Matt to run a half-hour one-shot successfully.
My man is DMing at a mad sprint.
"youre journey begins with a single knock"
This dude was born to DM.
Amazing :)
+lmaodrengen You are!
Is it me, or do nearly all these people around VD do voices in Skyrim?
Yes most of these people are professional voice actors.
Laura actually voices Serana!
Laura Bailey does voice acting for a lot of video games including (off the top of my head), Fallout 3, Saints Row 3 and Saints Row 4 among other titles
Gilafax professional? Those are the worst attempts at British accents I've ever heard
James IV Don't forget the entire Warcraft series.
"specter, wraith... somethings gotta die" LOL the perfect DnD attitude
This was how I found out about Matthew Mercer as a DM, and later, Critical Role. This video alone convinced me that D&D can be AWESOME, and I am definitely gonna check out CR soon.
Also gonna be playing in a D&D campaign soon - lizardfolk barbarian here I come! :)
This DM is bonkers good. He's like a frickin' 30th level Dungeon Master. Aspiring game masters, mad props are due to this hizzomie! It's an absolute clinic.
If you want a literal clinic, Matt's done some DM tips videos: geekandsundry.com/tag/matt-mercer-gm-tips/
And you can watch him DM Critical Role every week, with over 140 episodes archived on youtube. (Vex/Laura and Grog/Travis are characters/players from that game). Starting with this one: ruclips.net/video/i-p9lWIhcLQ/видео.html
Matt Mercer is absolutely amazing. I love watching him work
Grog must have a little "Fan Boy" in him. Fresh hair cut, beard trim, a good wash behind his ears. I hope it was worth the permanent -21 to the character sheet.
What am I saying, you played D&D with Vin Diesel...Of Course it was!!!
+TheTraakon it actually only lasts until a long rest is over
Then Matt is a much more affable DM than mine ever were. To them, permanent meant just that until the next level up. No matter, he played D&D with "Riddick". :)
+TheTraakon I'm sure this isn't cannon to Critical Role, so even if it was "permanent" it wouldn't be in their game.
+Chris Solino Even though its 'perm' its not really perm. It can be restored with a Health spell or other equally powerful healing magic. Wraiths are weird.
+Chris Solino +TheTraakon It won't matter for this anyway. It's a one off game, and their characters for Critical Role are level 11, not level 8, so when they go back to play there, it'll be gone not matter how they play it. (I think they were level 9 when they started filming Critical Role, so this would have happened awhile ago, even if they do make it cannon)
Damn I want to play D&D so bad. None of my friends are into that kind of tabletop game though
Search for a group in your community, you’ll almost certainly be friends by the end
Dungeons and Diesel could very well be the name of Fast and Furious 10
That would be fucking awesome
They be racing carriages. And Rock is Hercules,
THIS AGED WELL HAHAHA
Vin Diesel: "I am Kaulder"
Me: ....Im gonna need to sit down for a moment. Does anyone have a towel?
this DM is incredible. i want to watch him run more games with him omg
edit: just found critical role. time to binge.
So how'd it go?
@@LordZeebee He's still going
I see a lot of people amazed and surprised by Matt Mercer’s DMing and yes this how great DMs run their games! This is the tried and true old school way of dungeon mastering (without relying on miniatures and other table top visuals) It’s very much a theater of the mind! One of my old dnd groups had a DM very much like Matt and it was awesome! I would love to sit in on one of Matt’s games! 😄
Oh My God. I knew I recognized Laura Bailey's voice, she voices Jaina and Valla in Heroes of the Storm!!
+Megan Rivera The DM Matt Mercer voices Rehgar in HOTS as well.
+Megan Rivera And Travis is Gazlowe
Phalinx I forgot about that one, he even did the voice in a Critical Role episode.
Adam McAra
Wow. That is super unnecessary. I really like my profile picture, and you should keep your opinions to yourself about people's looks.
i am sorry i did not mean it like that it is a great picture you just have strange look on your face i just worded it wrong i can't talk anyway look at my profile picture lol
