I been looking for some footage of the mapogos as cubs, finally. Awesome footage of them and their parents, beautiful lions. Makhulu even as a young lion was huge, the name big Mac was definitely befitting and he was my personal favorite of the mapogo klan. Long live the legends 🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁

As far I know Makhulu 1998 was 3 years old when the Mighty Mapogos were born in 2001!
Makhulu's Loyalty to his original family is remarkable and what he did for the aging Weststreet males and Lionesses was truly remarkable.
His dedication to his family formed his entire life and knew he would one day be the King of his family's pride and then to inherit the new born Mapogos was another great astonishing achievement!
Makhulu watched these youngsters grow up and Big Makhulu taught the 5 Mapogos everything they knew!
If it wasn't for Makhulu who was FEARLESS and could take down a full grown buffalo on his own, taught the young Mapogos to hunt and take down a buffalo and that is why they were known as great buffalo hunters!
The most astonishing thing about Makhulu who at the age of 14 1/2 years old went on his final mission with Prettyboy to challenge Limper and Freddy!
Makhulu split off from Prettyboy and hunted down Limper deep into the night! Makhulu was 14 1/2 years old and hunted down Limper who was only 7 years old in his prime and was a threat to the pride's!
It was a gruesome battle, no video, but the sound recording will put goosebumps on your arms!
Makhulu must have torn Limper up, who later was found dead in Londozi 2 weeks after the brutal attack by Makhulu!
It's truly an amazing story of Makhulu!
Makhulu was also known to never lost a battle with any other single Lion, one on one!
Makhulu was an outstanding specimen of LION, and TAUGHT the Young MAPOGOS everything they knew!
He was the KING He was the BOSS and the youngsters Admired him and Loved him as their own brother, although he wasn't!
He was the older half brother, fathered and sired by Big Mak Senior and his old mother lioness who also gave birth to the 5 Mapogos!
Makhulu was Born in October 1998, the first of the Mapogos and the Last one to die January 2013
15 years old!

Makhulu wasn't King of his adoptive family. Once the last West Street Male died in 2004, the pride stayed without a dominant male until after the Mapogos left in 2006.
Makhulu stayed with them living like a son despite being at his prime. He wasn't a territorial male* and he spent most of his time far from the lioness, hanging out with Rasta and PB ( he formed a coalition with them ), but would still hang out with the lioness sometimes. Until early 2006 the Mapogos were seen protecting the Eyrefield Pride as sons, then they left for good.
*Edit: I was wrong, he was a territorial male at the time as per Mala Mala reports.
Makhulu was probably the reason why Limper died, but rather than kicking his ass, it's way more likely Limper's minor injuries infected. After the Mapogo-KNP clash, Limper and Freddy were seen in good condition and without apparent injuries.
Makhulu never losing a fight is also not true, I don't consider running/chasing as winning/losing an actual fight so Makhulu running from Dzunani apart, he was defeated by Rasta in 2009, who stole his lioness. We have pictures and ranger reports of the fight.
He was the dominant male with Dreadlocks ( him first then Dreadlocks ) but not even the most dominant male can win every fight for domination. He was said to be the most dominant in january 2009, but considering he lost that fight to Rasta late in the year, it's very likely that in that same year, Dreadlocks who was still on his prime, became the most dominant.
@@reinsaxony4623 the mapogos clashed with freddy an limper . MAKHULU sensed he had injured limper an as was his way stalked limper an caught him on his own whilst freddy was patrolling . The battle raged through the night . limper was seen two days later with a terrible facial wound amongst others . it was thought he had lost an eye . this was unfounded but he died two days later . no one saw Makhulu , pretty boy did not look happy . then the legend reappeared a couple of weeks later to carry on their journey back to sabi sands as PB was dying from bovine TB. Mak completed that final mission as was by his side when he passed . Your weird idea about running / chased equals cowardice , you mean like when the matimbas clashed with the mejingis , they both chased an ran from each other all day !!! Cowardice or just the way lions build up to battles or ambushes . Cowards never so Mak retreating is smart , as you can see by the outcome . He was truly the lion king .

Makhulu had the qualities of a great leader. He was the strongest but also very smart, not impulsive. No wonder he lived to 14 years.

Very true.
The only disappointment I had with Mr T as he was too erratic and often attacked his own Cubs and lionesses in the pride. He did a lot of damage to his own Coalition and prides with that behavior.
@@tak-475 he did attack mini pog badly and that was after protecting him from attacks from lioness who where trying to kill him..but he didn't attack most of his own cubs at all...

What about those instances where he killed his brother's Cubs after the death of kinky tail when he reunited back with the Western mapogos. By the way I'm not arguing I'm just quoting what I heard and viewed on RUclips and Facebook videos.
@@tak-475 All 5 younger Mapogos killed Makhulu's Othawa cubs in 2007 so Mr.T isn't the only Mapogo with that "sin".

Best of all time is impossible for anyone to say, a big favourite of our generation is how I would describe it. Though considering the amount of land and prides they had, how many cubs made it to full maturity? Not allot, I don't think so based on that, they were pretty poor but still a big fan favourite.

Yes I agree all this is interesting. I read The twins had formed a coalition early with Makulu. They had left the Sparta pride and explored obviously they weren’t strong enough yet besides the 2 split Rock males their half brothers they had to worry about a stronger coalition of 4 or 5 at the time the Rollercoster male lions. I am pointing out that the 3 oldest Mapogos must of had a bond from the beginning a partnership which makes sense the others were too young. Which makes sense that they all join forces once they took control and split it made sense that the 4 oldest Mapogos stayed and the 2 youngest were looking for their own space. Dreadlocks was in between in Dominance when he was younger until he grew is which why I think he had a bond with Rasta that was in between in dominance. I think Rasta was always started to compete with Makulu and Dreadlocks was also young until they both grew and got older they became the more dominant. I think bonds had to do a lot with dominance. I believe Makulu and Dreadlocks I think also had a bond I think just because there was just a stronger bond between the twins and then Kinky Tail and Mr.T. I also really suspect that is why Dreadlocks got so huge and big he was hanging around Makulu as the twins were starting to take dominance and challenge Makulu. Dreadlocks I think was born in between which I think helped him get big. His fathers then his older brothers helped him eat eventually he grew and started eating as much as his older brothers with out competing with his younger brother. I think Dreadlocks had bond with Makulu and Rasta. I also think the twins kinky tail and Mr.T hanged around with the twins when Rasta competed with Makulu it must of been when they went and got more prides and territory. They say Rasta would be in the east a lot but there is a lot of video of Pretty Boy being with the youngest ones they must of both been over there. I also think pretty boy was 2nd in dominance until Rasta got aggressive and Dreadlocks grew and became the most dominant.
Also obviously at the end the last 3 Mapogos that were alive built that bond when they need it each other. Pretty Boy was with his big brother Makulu till the day he died since he was born. Pretty Boy had a brother bond with Rasta but that bond at the end was strong when they need it each other after losing their 3 brothers. Poor Mr.T seemed to never be the same with out Kinky Tail he may have even felt lonely.

@@ochoaguillermo638 Rather than Rasta hanging out in the east, I think he was in the central territory with the Tsalala pride which was controlled by both Mapogo groups.
There are different videos of Rasta alone or alone with the Tsalala lionesses where the rangers can't tell if it's him or KT.
I know of no instance of Rasta hanging out with the Mlowathi in the east.

Dominance between Mr.T and KT changed all the time, the biggest fights between lions for mating rights rangers have ever seen were between Mr.T and KT.

Being eaten alive and not having T to help him out awhile he was being massacred, especially when JT was already exhausted from fighting them early on was very brutal. Makulu was a older for a few years than the rest. The reason for such success by them was his experience from being older before leaving with them when the 5 younger mopogos left the Sparta pride. Awesome footage of the legends. West Street males very impressive.

wow. shaka aka kinky tail was a lion like no other, when it came to bravery and fighting! At 3:33 mark he faces the camera and his face already has many scars and a ripped nostril at just a couple of years old it looks. I'm sure sataan and shaka took their share of beatings from the older ones the first few years> also surprised dreadlock aka scar dad didn't have more offspring or if they died, but if his son is an indicator, then he was more concerned about roaming (patrolling) and feeding his belly
