      The long term fix is to cut pay to play, if the US wants a short term fix is that they should have open tryouts to the mnst every year from ages as low as 15 and up.see if they can find a diamond in the ruff, and go from there.

      And Iceland needs to qualify in the cut-throat UEFA region, which is much harder. Relatively fewer countries from UEFA can go to the world cup (relative to the quality of many European countries), so there are just a few places available for the smaller countries.

      @@janickpauwels3792 thats the point. The US for some reason in the last world cup qualifier just did not perform well whatsoever. And yet in 2017, there was a surge in soccer changes. And yet they couldn’t beat a Trinidad team that had nothing to play for. Meanwhile Iceland has to fight and claw in order to make it to Euro 2016 and they go all the way to the quarterfinals after BEATING ENGLAND. And then theyre able to qualify for Russia.

      @@adamsamuel8593 What made Taylor, as well as many others USMNT fans, so pissed off is not the loss to Trinidad itself (one bad game can always happen, expecially in football/soccer), but the fact that, going into the final game, the USMNT found themselves in such a position in the table in the first place. Being so poor against CONCACAF opponents is out of everybody's mind because, you know, apart from Mexico and Costa Rica, they're... well... not the best.
      In his rant, he pointed out that being eliminated in CONCACAF is just unacceptable, expecially for a country with size, money, resources and population as the United States of America.
      Losing to Mexico is fair enough, they're just a better team. Losing to Costa Rica shouldn't be so (it's so much smaller than the US that US Soccer should easily develop better players than the Ticos out of 300+ million people), but it's still acceptable because the Costaricans have been a very very good side in recent years, too (made the World-Cup quarterfinals in 2014), well coached and with a big football/soccer culture. So, even though USA should do better, it's still ok to lose to them.
      But losing to Honduras, Panama, Trinidad, Guatamala (yes, the US lost at Guatemala in the semifinal round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers)... Come on! "What are we doing?"
      Not only those aren't good teams overall (I don't want to be disrespectful, but that's fact, not opinion: just look at the FIFA World Ranking), but it's ridiculous that with all the money and resources the US have (I repeat, 300+ million people against teams from much smaller countries) they cannot figure out how to qualify for the World Cup in such a weak confederation as CONCACAF.
      This is was Taylor Twellman basically pointed out in his rant, and these are all objective facts. I can't see how he was disrespectful towards anybody, he just said the truth.

      People who want pro/rel now in US Soccer don't have a clue how the economics of soccer in America work. Very few teams outside MLS are financially sound enough to survive either promotion or relegation. For the majority of teams in all divisions relegation would mean almost certain death. The average soccer fan today wouldn't be interested in their team dropping division.

    • @kingcadmus2768
      @kingcadmus2768 5 лет назад +10

      @@albertomolina3264 I agree with you, that USA soccer is economically unique, kind of to the point that I dont think a Pro/Rel would have created the sort of growth it's seeing today.
      But at the same time its the same as the English system, where there are what like 11-13 professional tiers, where only like the top 5 tiers have stability? Even then clubs in like 4th tier still go bankrupt and are constantly changing ownership, have sub-par grounds and attendance.
      Look up the recent story of Salford City FC = bought out, and now a bunch of former players turned investors/owners are turning it from bankrupt to an outside contender to raise a 4th tier in 5 years.
      That's the point of pro/rel = teams/cities/towns ebb and flow live by the sword and die by the sword. It's very American = capitalism at its finest. On the opposite side your point is well made because look at Serie A, a history of sub par owners making poor financial decisions and crashing out of the league. But eventually, the cream rises to the top and those with money and passion to be owners and create a winning culture = they invest, capitalize in the market, and no one can overtake them.
      I agree probably for a developing sport in America, there isnt big enough fan bases to really support this. That economically the growth of the sport is just on this consistent plugging along and stability (or that's what it seems they're trying for). . .but . . . Ultimately the promotion relegation system provides many more players chances to compete in meaningful ways at a broader range of age and skill and that kind of competition is what refines players to be better. Versus what we have now - non-affiliated academies, amateur sports, NCAA, etc.

None of these things tend to cost the players anything and in the beginning none of the players ever do it for the money. The womens team are not elite theyre good but if we put the US women to play against any top European or top south american mens team they woulf get devoured. Sadly thats how it is. I have no problem if you enjoy womens soccee but dont delude yourself about womens soccee it isnt near the level of the mens. My country mexico could be the US womens team and mexico is in bad shape right now lol

    Taylor hit the nail on the head here. It's an organizational failure. We have players to compete in the World Cup. There's no reason USMNT should fail to leave the group stages at every single World Cup (baring injuries or a crazy hard group). It's the same formulaic problem that has haunted sports teams like Cleveland Browns. How do you have #1 draft picks and in the top 10 of the draft every single year but fail to win a single game? Organization. Major changes (still) needed at US Soccer.

      That's not correct about the USMNT failing to get past the group stage in every World Cup. Up until the failure to qualify for 2018, the USMNT had advanced past group play in 3 of the last 4, making it to the QF in '02, and Round of 16 in 2010 & 2014. But that's pretty much moot now with the entire thing in shambles

    that game woke up US Soccer for sure. it marked the end of the landon donovan/clint dempsey/tim howard era and brought up the kids. Yes they still play very defensive against the big guns of the world but you finally saw talent. A lot of the big names play overseas, winning trophies, contributing, etc. and when the US beat Mexico is both the Nations League and Gold Cup, that marked a huge change.

      That's the problem with American sports in general- basketball, baseball, soccer. It's ridiculous that kids and their parents have to pony up more money for summer and travel leagues. All in the name of college recruitment. Colleges love it because they might go recruit a couple kids, and the big schools with their TV deals and everything else will make millions off one kid, like Duke did with Zion. When America is saying its best pool of players are only those who can afford to do summer and travel ball, then we are doing a massive disservice to our kids. I like the academy idea, but would US Soccer and everyone else be willing to do a ground up rebuild? No one knows, but it has to get done.

    I argue that had the USMNT qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Bruce Arena would've picked older players instead of youth and be bounced out of the group stages in a European soil FIFA World Cup again.
    The loss to Trinidad and Tobago and not qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup turned out the best things for the USMNT to revamp their squads with youth and in 2021, they won two titles outlasting bitter rivals Mexico.

  • @youristjean5651
    @youristjean5651 4 года назад +4

    Bruh the us ain’t it, it has never been it. The country as a whole has an inflated ego. It’s making strides to become better through the emergence of academies and semi-professional leagues but it’s nowhere close. Until the usl leage 1 gets established, and semi-pro leagues start paying players there will be a lot of talent that just goes unnoticed. On top of that you have to consider the fact that usl league 2 and the npsl’s semi-pro leagues are summer leagues, the problem with that is that with those being the highest level semi-pro no-one outside of college and academy players really get looked at, or have their needs met. If the US really wanted to be competitive they would put the college teams in the NPSL and or USL league 2 year round (or fall and spring) like in Europe. This way you have a much bigger talent pool to choose from and you’re not excluding ex-collegiate players that still play at a high level and actually want to go pro. And if the is federation approved this there would be a much higher attraction to the sport as a whole.

  • @MrRapparicio
    @MrRapparicio 4 года назад +6

    With all due respect of someone who follows football and supports MLS we can't be fooled thinking that a league that has no promoting and descending system can be considered a top competitive league in the world.
    There is no way college kids can become world class players in enough quantity to form consecutive winning teams.
    The secondary leagues will force teams to pickup players and form a base for the future.
    That's the problem...MLS clubs and players have no concept of battling all season not only for the win but also for not loose.
    Loosing has consequences and not everyone takes a medal home.
    We can't even beat the Central America clubs for the club World Cup finals every December in Japan and this year I believe in Saudi Arabia.
    American coach such as Bruce Arena is not a world class coach, they are all outdated and whoever is deciding the future of the USA football has no knowledge on how to create a winning league.
