Watching this as an Brit makes me feel sorry for the Americans that genuinely care about football, when ever any European or South American national team fails to meet the required standards its viewed by the respective country almost like a national embarrassment, change is demanded and change usually happens. The whole setup from top to bottom gets the blame not just the manger and the players, like the guy in the video says it takes years to see the changes take affect but if it’s done right it can pay off big time. Unfortunately with the USA because football isn’t held in anywhere near the same regard as in Europe and South America it seems they won’t get the required changes that have to be made as there is nowhere near as much demand for it from the people.
Well so much has changed actually from 2015-17. Still improvements left to be made but interest in soccer is growing and this new young team is hungry. Still inexperienced though and they've a lot to learn

Its great that the U.S. Canada and Mexico are holding The 2026 World Cup ... Football will grow in North America don't give up!.
@Zealous Tiger It is now, though. The youth system is being restructured and pay-to-play is finally going to end. Within 5 years it will be fully eradicated with the new structure in place. The funding will come from MLS, they will fund the youth teams just as they have done with their own club academies, creating a Free-to-Play youth system. Kids of all backgrounds will get to play for free, then we can really find some talents and more of them at once. With the new national team being the strongest in US history already with legitimate talents in most of the starting 11 so far with more to come, and the 2026 World Cup being here, they can be huge catalysts for Football in the US taking that final step and taking off for good.

Glad this popped up on recommended. Dude on the right was could’ve gone on an in depth rant that the American people need to hear but tried to stick to one point. Major props 🤙🏽
The thing that's missing in America is the culture around football (soccer ). In the US, it's a side sport for the rich or those who go to college. In the rest of the world, particularly in Europe, it's a religion and way of life. I'm from the UK and since I was around 5 years old I have played football with friends, using jumpers for goalposts, played in amateur teams, watched my local professional team play and watched it on TV at least once a week, often often a dozen times. There are hundreds of stories about young kids from Africa or South America playing with a deflated ball in the streets of their towns, before making it as a pro and moving to Europe. Americans will be behind as long as they treat football as a secondary sport. The results of a match in the rest of the world can make or break a person's entire week. The US need to start by promoting football for free to kids and introducing relegation to their domestic league
I disagree. Implementing relegation isn't the end all be all, but rather the interest in the domestic league and the sport as a whole. There's simply not enough teams at this moment in time to sustain a multiple-division system. Investment in the youth has been providing dividends since 2017 or so with this new crop of players. Perhaps more developed youth systems for the MLS teams. The MLB, NBA, etc do not have relegation yet those are the best athletes in their respective sports
Do not settle, look into that game and you’ll see that the USA got nearly ran of the pitch in the second half, it happened almost every game, they’d have a world class first half and then drag their feet in the second, management is still awful and the bench is full of actual no hopers
You can be born in the US and still play for other countries if you get another passport or you have roots from elsewhere. Pulisic should have played for Croatia, bench or not.
I mean, Messi was offered to play for Spain. It is possible to play for another country if that country takes responsibility for your success from the opportunities they give you
0 progress made under Behalter, but winning a mickey mouse tournament in nations league has convinced the federation that he is the man for the job. Such a cowardly approach to Panama, rubbish management against Uruguay, spineless behavior when he lets the players know its even between Bolivia and Panama in the middle of a match and we end up conceding in the next few minutes. Completely understand why they got rid of Klinnsman, but to go from him BACK to Bruce freaking Arena? It'd be like if Manchester United fired Ole Gunnar Solskjær and re-hired José Mourinho.

@@TrainerAQ Bruce did everything he could do considering what he walked into. Klingsman will always have the nightmare of fans saying to him "you should of had Landon Donovan on that roster!"
The USA failing to qualify for the World Cup from CONCACAF was far more embarrassing than Italy of the Netherlands failing to do so from UEFA, or Chile failing to do so from CONMEBOL (or even Argentina if they’d have failed to make it).
Both the USA and Mexico should have an automatic ticket to every World Cup from CONCACAF. Mexico nearly threw away their ticket for the 2014 World Cup, but were ironically saved by the USA. The USA actually threw away their ticket for Russia in 2018.
Chile was eliminated by Brazil
Argentina almost was eliminated by Ecuador who is a real pain to beat in their high altitude

I was a ref for 6-7 years throughout high school and college. The absolute best players are in the lower/rec leagues and get entirely overlooked by the pay to play system.

As an Englishman you would expect me to laugh at You ... No as I want FOOTBALL to be a major sport in North America. When Taylor Twellman says Iceland is a small country, yes he is right but he has missed a MASSIVE point ... Iceland is a European country and FOOTBALL is the predominant sport in Europe.
You can learn from this ... its down to all your football authorities to collectively work together and put things right ...

USA adjusted, Mexico needs this now. Corruption is crazy.
Looking back at this now after the USA beat Iran 1-0 really shows how far we’ve come.
Do not settle, look into that game and you’ll see that the USA got nearly ran of the pitch in the second half, it happened almost every game, they’d have a world class first half and then drag their feet in the second, management is still awful and the bench is full of actual no hopers
It shows how terrible you guys still are😂

How to qualify in the World Cup: never be born in the United States
You can be born in the US and still play for other countries if you get another passport or you have roots from elsewhere. Pulisic should have played for Croatia, bench or not.
