Unfortunately a lot of teams have bypassed the USA team. When the giants of world club football started to invest in their women’s teams, with the best training and coaching facilities in the world, unfortunately the US teams cannot compete with them. No player from any country who plays in the WSL made it into the quarter finals. Most play in Europe. When Spain win the World Cup without 10 first team players, and are the U21 and U17 champions too, with Barcelona and Real Madrid behind them, the US cannot compete with them.
I don't believe that the world caught up with the USA, but rather the USA didn't put out its best team. Not only did we not field the best team but we kept calling up the same faces both from the old guard and the new players as well. It was as though the roster was selected by the USSF marketing department.
And you would be correct! The fault lies soley (mostly) on the Coach/Trainer who selected the Team and line-up for the games. With the exception of the shockingly poor performance in the goal shootout. Taking a win to a loss.
@@WebShaman01100% Fact! The coach never figured out his official starting 11. Rose not starting v Netherlands, comes on at halftime, but no more subs in tie game ? Not having solid back line forcing Ertz to play CB instead of 6 or 8? Those are just the issues most discussed, but plenty others? And Rapinoe shouldn’t have been on team, clearly couldn’t even run or deliver a good corner or pass to Alex Morgan v Portugal. And of course the PK 😢!! Did coach not want backlash for not picking her? Remember Juergen cutting Landon Donovan from roster for 2014 World Cup, bold move, many questioned it, but later we found out he made right decision! Either way he should be let go by end of month, if not today or tomorrow!!!
@@chrisfrank2664 Yes, you got the right take on things. Unfortunately, things have degenerated to Repugs hating on the Team, to others "sympathizing" with the girls and sparing them from critique, and no-one is putting the blame where it belongs, on the Coach/Trainer. Sad.
The world has caught up. Girls in Europe LA and Africa grow up in i proper soccer nations. They play street football with the boys in countries that have soccer as the number 1 sport. Girls from these parts of the world grow up watching Ronaldo Messi Benzema etc whilst US girls grow up watching Magen Rapinoe. That sums it up
Maybe with Repinoe leaving the scene, the team can focus on TEAM in the coming years. There were just as many Americans rooting against the US as there were supporters. And that is sad.
Dan and Taylor here emphasized that this USWNT is polarizing. Absolutely true! The thing is, if they would show at least some class, honor, and respect for others, their support would increase dramatically. Just look at this WC, they barely squeak into the round of 16 and you see them celebrating, taking selfies with fans, etc. Why? Show some humility. Rapinoe wildly misses her PK and she smiles, which even if she didn't mean it to mean that she didn't care, it came off as so. In an earlier comment I noted their behavior in 2019 when they played Thailand with their excessive and obnoxious goal celebrations. How hard is it to simply show some reasonable decorum? It would be one thing if they were off-putting off the field, but then to maintain a professional manner and execute well on the field. However, to be obnoxious both on AND off the field, well, don't be surprised if people want to see you knocked of your pedestal.
The game against Thailand was the moment I began disliking our national team for the reason you mentioned. Now the tables have turned. Portugal is about the size of Florida…
Still can't believe no one saw this coming. There are numerous interview examples of interviews with key players who were so much more interested in social activism than they were in the game itself.
Exactly. We all think black lives matter; even Republicans, haha. And yet the ladies and coaches chose to burn all their popularity on that altar as if they were fighting some generational battle. Form over substance.
I know it’s popular to make the connection between social activism and the poor performance of the players because it fits a certain ideology. However, even though that might be a minor factor, the bulk of the reason of the poor performance is the age of the players, and that the linear, strength and speed approach of US soccer is simply not good enough anymore. In Europe and other nations, football is the main sport and those women benefit from it. Portugal and Spain run circles around our players with finesse. Let’s put the blame were it belongs: the US soccer federation for lousy player (and coaches) selection and development. Half of the team needs to retire NOW!
It reminds me of what my uncle said during the 2006 world cup about Brazil, "That's a team that's been living off their reputation for a long time". Thought he was talking nonsense at the time, it's Brazil, they're always great, the next 15 plus years has proven him right

Thank you Taylor, Ive been saying the same thing since the loss. The US might not win another WC for 8-12 years with how we are getting left behind in skills and tactics/coaching. We are falling into the MLS trap of hire your friend because he one time was an assistant coach for 2 months crap. The point concerning criticism of men’s team vs criticism of women’s teams made me think of the learning curve I suffered when I started coaching my daughter’s softball team after coaching her brother’s baseball teams. Girls and boys ARE DIFFERENT creatures; psychologically and emotionally. Not bad but just different.
Men/Boys you earn their trust and you can say pretty much anything and even yell at them and they'll listen! Women/girls it's not what you say but HOW it's being said! Men also get motivated by being pushed to their limits in that type of environment@@mosijahi3096
@@dieseldan5189 to back up his point, this year and last year NWSL fired abunch of coaches for yelling at the players, Houston and Spirit. It has nothing to do with the rest of the world catching up. It has everything to do with constant distractions of non-existent injustices headed by Rapinoe. Now that she's gone, maybe they can focus on the game of soccer and get back to the level they were at. As an American, they were not representing America and I couldn't be more happy with the outcome. Maybe they'll represent us well now and I can start cheering for them again.
You are off base and I don't see you 'representing America' at all. Look at the new teams advancing this year. The quality is visibly better on so many levels. Enjoy your bitter victory.
its both issues, Rapinoe a big disctraction and dumb PR to wear Suits and Ties and be arrogant. The rest of the world has already caught up, and is getting better technical skills, and tactics, and better coaching. At this rate, I bet you we wont win another WC in 8-12 yrs just like Taylor said, holy crap ive been saying this. Womens soccer is falling behind here in the US because of bad youth develpement and pay to play and causing good kids to quit.
If you fail to see that the rest of world cause caught then you simply don’t understand the sport of soccer or probably even watch it. Rapinoe is a legend, she is very much so a reason as to why the US that you love so much has been soo dominant in the sport of soccer. She has done more for this country than you ever have and ever will. No one cares if you support or not. But by not supporting it makes you unpatriotic. By rooting against it makes you unpatriotic. Which makes you more un-American than she has ever been. Just go away dude.
@@nevrfresher142 Rapinoe is a worldwide nobody... winning a rather unimportant WC twice... where USWNT did play 60% amateur teams even at WC. Nobody cares for women's football. Even women watch the men.
The USWNT started losing my support when they played Thailand in the 2019 WC. The final score was 13-0 and members of our team showed ZERO class and respect for the other side when they were celebrating the 8th-13th goals as if it was the first goal. I recall Rapinoe, after one of those goals, sliding on her butt while kicking one of her legs in the air. It was disgusting! Again, ZERO class!
The USWNT (and any team or individual playing under the flag of the USA) should at a bare minimum have love and respect for the country they are playing for. This team (aside from two or three of them) seemed more interested in their own individual glory than in representing the USA. A couple players have openly stated they don't love the country or respect the freedom they enjoy. How can we expect a team like the one we just watched show any heart or passion on the pitch when they are indifferent to their country at best and openly despise it at worst? MR was a cancer to this team, her retiring is a start to changing that dynamic, but her followers still there need to be removed as well. There also needs to be a change at coach/manager. Andonovski is weak and is a poor tactician and should have already been fired. The US is the most well funded women's national team in global soccer, there is no excuse to not have the absolute best leading this team. Do better USSF.
USWNT needs to get back to playing soccer and focusing on the pride of international play. Need leaders to keep toxic distractions out of the sport. USA has the talent.
They have always been about elevating the woman’s game to the level of the men’s. Women’s sport before they started this push was dismissed as an extra program. They pushed for equal pay, equal coaching and spending for this program and any country that has a program.
I’m so sorry for my language but ducking finally someone is talking some sense on these shows. And what a relief it is to hear actual commentators saying it rather than hoping that it’s not true
"They're also sticking up for what they believe in. I have no issue with that." Well, I do. They can do that on their own time. Don't do it on an international stage where you're representing our country. DO THE JOB YOU'RE PAID TO DO and keep your opinions off the field. Good riddance to this poisonous group.
To the topic of equal pay. If the women truly believe the operate at the men's level, even discounting ticket sales, merchandise, etc, they are free to try out for the men's teams. There are any number of teams that would happily take them up if they can hang. We won't even get into how the men's and women's negotiated pay structures and contracts focus on different elements, such as post season performance, health benefits and other areas of interest.
People keep saying that they’ve never seen a US national team get rooted against, but how many US national teams have you seen show dislike and distain for the country they are representing?
The 1 player who did not belong in the team based on performance on the pitch is Megan Rapinoe. But no one has the courage to point this truth out. In 3 games as a substitute she displayed that she is a washed up 38 year old player. That missed penalty kick was not the first time she missed an easy scoring opportunity. Thank G-d it's her last. The sick joke is the fact that she was a member of the USWNT in this 2023 WWC.
The rest of world has gotten much better which is a good thing! Of 8 teams in Quarterfinals you can make case for anyone to win it. But the US still had great team. Not making decisions in box was horrible to see time after time. All Ill say about Megan is she shouldn’t have been on squad. Despite all the problems they should still be in Quarterfinals! Instead of losing by 1-2 millimeters, which you could say is poetic justice because an inch to left and Portugal takes them out in group play. I’m hoping the new coach, who they should be working on hiring right now understands how to use each players strengths for the team.
The world has caught up...but the USWNT allowed one goal in four games, none of which they lost. On the defensive side of the ball, in any case, they're still one of the very best. The problem was goal scoring, and a whole bunch of that is on teh coaching staff (playing people out of position, inflexibility, not making timely substitutions, etc.). Twellman's spot on about the youth teams and player development in general. Contrast what we do with Japan, whose very young team has been unquestionably the best team in the tournament so far. Their coach has been with many of these players for years (Ikeda coached U17 and U20 sides, winning a U20 World Cup along the way). Their team plays with the energy of young players, but the savvy and football IQ of veterans.
how about select players that play passionately for their country and sport... not a bunch of smug, selfish, narcissistic players that believe they deserve it all just for existing. I would be so grateful and happy to live in a country with the opportunities the U.S. has. Was fortunate to live there for 13-14 years and I am extremely grateful to the U.S. Its not a perfect country, but damn, first-world-problems. So much resentment, lies and hypocrisy in the minds of certain groups and ideologues.
The issue with most fans both casual and hardcore was simple. When they turned on the TV to watch this global event and see the opponent prideful and happy to be there vs the USWNT quite and ungrateful. You as an American viewer are immediately put off. You go screw these ungrateful millionaires and root against them.
USWNT won world cups because of the investment in the sport starting in early 2000´s. The U.S. was way ahead of the rest of the world. Now the rest of the world has caught up which is great for the sport. The U.S.team was arrogant and not focused on playing for their country. Rather, focused on individual glory and political ideals. Thank you Sweden for providing the PERFECT ending to The U.S. team exit from the 2023 WWC!
It's interesting. The England women's team often give the knee before kick-off and they're also vocal about inequalities. But they don't seem to get any of this shit. I think one difference is they treat that stuff as entirely secondary to going out and playing for England. To them it's a privilege to put on an England shirt. When they make mistakes they openly admit it; when they're successful they may celebrate the Hell out of it, but they aren't arrogant. As for the overall sea-change change in women's football globally. Anyone who watched the 2022 Euro's would have already been fully aware of this. The England/Germany final literally sold out Wembley to a record level.
I'm British and I really wish they didn't take the knee. It's embarrassing and polarising. It has absolutely no meaning! Plus they've been rotten at the world cup so far, lucky to be in quarters
@@robertrussell2202 That's ok, but tbh most Brits don't really care either way. The deeply 'polarising' aspect is in the US. Also, I don't think they've been 'rotten' so far. Under-performing at certain points, certainly; but the China match was very good and unlike the US they scored and won in all Group stage games. Their performance in the Nigeria game definitely wasn't great, but they tactically held off any chance at Nigeria scoring after being down to 10 players and losing their start striker, and then precision delivered the penalties when needed (unlike the men frequently).
@@robertrussell2202 England is playing at the World Cup missing 3 key players from their starting 11 through injuries Mead, Kirby, and their captain Williamson. Ellen and Jill retired after the Euros. England also lost another key player Walsh through injury before halftime in the Denmark game and Walsh had to miss the match against China. England had to play with 10 players for 40 minutes against Nigeria. They played Colombia missing 4 key players and will have to do the same against Australia. England and their manager have adapted well to the changes and just got on with it.
It’s football, favourites don’t always win. Plenty of shocks in men’s game. A lot of premier league teams get knocked out of cups by lower league teams
With the older players retiring they will have to find a leader amongst the younger players going forward. Morgan simply disappeared. She was never the fastest forward but had speed enough to get the job done. But she has lost a step or two. I don't think she scored at all. She might have a role with the next Olympic team but after that I doubt it.
I would dump all the old players, and start training all new players. They left behind alot of talent and never called up abunch of players. Fix the mistake and start fresh. Morgans best year was last year, she was barely top 10 striker... I warned everyone not to take her, she wasnt in top form and she wasnt going to magically be in top form...
1) Re USA & Vlatko: I'm convinced he sabotaged the team. He never looks/ed worried or concerned. It was O'Hara not him, talking to the team after Portugal. He sounds/seems like such a dud. In the Olympics he used substitutions as if he promised every player that they would each see the pitch before they left Tokyo: taking off players who weren't even sweating yet, players who did well etc, and so often. I was so confused. NOW in the World Cup, it's like he forgot he brought more than 11 players. On what planet do you take off Alex Morgan (who didnt look tired) before penalties? I dont think she would've blown the penalties. If you want Pinoe on, you put her on in addition to Morgan, not instead of. If you're going to bring on Mewis & O'Hara, at least give them 20 mins. He was NOT trying to win this competition. HE does not have the mentality of "win everything"/ "every match is a must win match", that is the DNA of USWNT. Vlatko OUT!!! Harvey or Hayes in 2) Gutted for Nigeria, England was not the better side. Penalties suck. 3) Sweden GK = #CelebityLookALike with Gal Gadot, right? (Yes/ No) 4) Group stage taught us, ranking doesn't matter. R 16 taught, ranking does matter?
Diversity had nothing to do with why they were disliked. Megan Rapinoe is a controversial figure, whether you agree with her or not. This is a free country and they should of course be able to express themselves however they wish, but that doesn’t mean they are immune from criticism. I’m sure many people were put off by a group of people who were somewhat hesitant to take pride in their country yet were willing to reap the benefits of representing it.
What they have to do is clear the shelf. Keep the Karens at home. Let the team concentrate on playing soccer. Things fall apart when the centre cannot hold.
Until the USWNT starts recruiting real soccer players that can play with pride and heart, instead of these "women" with an agenda that doesn't have anything to do with the game, the disgrace will continue.
The 3 biggest excuses I have heard. The team's best players were injured. The team was caught between two generations. The rest of the world has caught up. Stop making excuses.
European countries know how to play the game, its a major part of our culture , yes we will catch up in womens football as we do have the knowledge of the game
It's obvious why they lost. They didn't put the best players on the team. They cared more about social messages and politics than soccer. Rapinoe doesn't even deserve to be on the team at all. Everyone is afraid of criticizing her because of being cancelled. There's no doubt many members of the team feels she is more of a distraction than help. They just won't say it.
The rest of the world HAS caught up, and unlike the men side they have MASSIVE advantages. Being football nations mean they have the clubs infrastructure and know-how on how to develop professional players from the men side, with the men's resources and money. Barcelona Academy La Masia has just begun to develop elite players using the knowledge from the men's team. That, and the already existing culture gives the the capital to catch up to the US Women MUCH faster that the US Men can catch up to the rest of the world.
The hatred is not about standing up for your position. It is about putting on the US uniform and than disrespecting the country. They used the USWNT to push THEIR (not everyone's) ideology and they do it during the game. If they want to be activists, do it on their time and not during the game.
USWNT needs to get rid of"woke" players and get real "TEAM" players who want represent ALL Americans, even those they do not agree with. No more kneeling or staying silent for the national anthem, sjow you have the drive and passion to be champions. Be a team that unites us, not divide us.
There is nothing wrong with prioritizing athleticism in the women's game more than in the men's game because women can't cover the field as well as the men leaving space for athletic players to exploit. In the men's game passes need to be inch perfect and first touches need to appear as if cleats are coated in superglue, not so the women. The problem with our team was that a) our athletically superior players got old and lost some of that edge and b) we tried to play pretty. The only game we looked good in was the last one where there was a lot of long balls, pressure and winning second balls. It is no use trying to play tactical Euroball because we don't have the coaches for it here in the USA and the only Europeans we can afford are those that could not hack it in their own country.
Good coaches are quickly funneled into the boys and men's game. Athleticism is an important quality but talented players need to be playing in Europe. The rest of the world is excelling in their technical play and if we do not meet this challenge we will fall to the English cocky and deluded sense of self worth that inhibited their competitiveness for damn near a lifetime.
The true level of women's soccer in the US has always been mirrored in the level of their men's team. The fact that they won a few WCs was simply a quirk of favourable circumstances for the US women. Don't be surprised if we never see them again in the finals. They need an urgent schooling in the true meaning of humility and respect and to demonstrate how to use these two words in a sentence.🇭🇲
God he made a great point. We should have been dominating. Do you really think that any other country on earth would provide backing and support for a womens national team like we have?
They are starting to invest, thats the point made. Europe mens teams are the best, the best technical knowledge and coaching, they are giving that to the women now, they know how to play the game its in their DNA, they have the money to invest and they are now, the premier league in the UK is the best league in the world
In the us ,football /soccer has been more seen as a women's sport ,the men's game is well being basketball ,base ball ,American football , The rest of the world football is there main sports for men ,now there starting to take the women's game more serious,,and they have not only caught up but over taken the us women's side
When the politics of the few takes the focus away from building a wining culture based on hard work, sacrifice, and national pride, teammates become individuals just going through the motions. That is a lack of leadership from coaches and players.
I think Rapinoe did it on purpose. Someone of her caliber couldn’t possibly have an aim that off. Looks like she kicked the ball incredibly high at such a close range.
@@jrn2121 you’re right, I know 0 about the game. I’m not remotely interested in women’s soccer or sports in general however, I’m happy they lost, I understand that. This is the Most Hated team in American History. These entitled Woke women are Absolutely Disgusting. Go Away Megan…. Forever!!! 🇺🇸
Sad.
Spain Japan Columbia France all better than the usa Aus as well
The world has caught up.
Unload that cancer.
From comments I've seen on-line and conversations, I'd guage the support at about 20%; 80% against.
This team needed to be humbled. Learn from the mistakes, focus on the goal of winning, retool, come back with a vengeance
I guess Rapinoe should have cried her eyes out or looked depressed. That would have unsettled her team's remaining shootout players.
Sure but you can’t reign that in. As seen here , any critique is gas lit
It reminds me of what my uncle said during the 2006 world cup about Brazil, "That's a team that's been living off their reputation for a long time". Thought he was talking nonsense at the time, it's Brazil, they're always great, the next 15 plus years has proven him right
Carli Lloyd is right on the money. The new generation mentality is way different from the older generation. Losing is also good to celebrate.
With the new contract, they will still make more money than the actual winner of the WWC. How motivating is that?
Here we go with the “ new generation mentality “,such clichés.
Mostly in the USA.

Just like carli, Taylor speaks the truth. The WOKE America can kick rocks
As an American, thank you Sweden🇸🇪
The USWNT started losing my support when they played Thailand in the 2019 WC. The final score was 13-0 and members of our team showed ZERO class and respect for the other side when they were celebrating the 8th-13th goals as if it was the first goal. I recall Rapinoe, after one of those goals, sliding on her butt while kicking one of her legs in the air. It was disgusting! Again, ZERO class!
Very true.
Like a D-lineman getting a sack and practically pulling a groin going thru all his dumb gangsta dance moves...down by 3 TDs.
It's embarrassing.
Thanks for bringing this up. It was 100% without class to celebrate goals 8-13 as they did, completely disrespectful.
@@tarfpir Totally.
I just went back and watched the highlights. Wow, classless. If someone did this in a hockey game there would be an ass kickin' coming.
I'm no soccer genius, but if Rapinoe was warming the bench the first three games, why was she suddenly elevated to the spotlight game 4?
USWNT needs to get back to playing soccer and focusing on the pride of international play. Need leaders to keep toxic distractions out of the sport. USA has the talent.
They have always been about elevating the woman’s game to the level of the men’s. Women’s sport before they started this push was dismissed as an extra program. They pushed for equal pay, equal coaching and spending for this program and any country that has a program.
"everything woke turns to shit" is not just a tagline
I’m so sorry for my language but ducking finally someone is talking some sense on these shows. And what a relief it is to hear actual commentators saying it rather than hoping that it’s not true
Taylor Well said. You got it right!!!!
The USA(?) Womens Team needs to focus on 🇺🇸⚽️, not “causes”
The best video I have seen on this topic!
"Just treat us like you treat the men." "Ok, you played horribly." "You just can't handle strong women, you sexist!"
"They're also sticking up for what they believe in. I have no issue with that."
Well, I do. They can do that on their own time. Don't do it on an international stage where you're representing our country. DO THE JOB YOU'RE PAID TO DO and keep your opinions off the field. Good riddance to this poisonous group.
Never watched soccer match in my life but watched this game. It was great watching her come in and choke in her final game.
Very simple , other countries play for the love of their country and soccer . what does the USA team play for ?
People keep saying that they’ve never seen a US national team get rooted against, but how many US national teams have you seen show dislike and distain for the country they are representing?
We’ll said. This team keeps going further with that rhetoric. Half the country thinks it’s a good thing though.
This is not a us women team so stop saying that, this is an anti-us women team.
When ya Win it's the players..When ya lose its the COACH! VIGH
Hating your nation while playing in an international tournament is always a good strategy
2:40 I knew when I found out there were women almost as old as me on that team, that they were going to lose.
Well said!!!!
They suck period
how about select players that play passionately for their country and sport... not a bunch of smug, selfish, narcissistic players that believe they deserve it all just for existing.
Can't disagree with anything Twellman said
Rapinoe was toxic to the team it was all about her she was not a team player I'm glad she's gone

There has never been a team more easy to root against in the history of sports.
Thanks for giving your analysis about the player and not making it personal, your opinion was based on performance.
1) Re USA & Vlatko:
I'm convinced he sabotaged the team.

2) Gutted for Nigeria, England was not the better side. Penalties suck.
3) Sweden GK = #CelebityLookALike with Gal Gadot, right? (Yes/ No)

Don't blame the fans for not supporting a group of soccer players that don't support their country.
Similar to film makers/movie studios blaming the movie goers for not liking their picture.
They can express themselves somewhere else. They should not use a sports venue for a political platform.
Why hasn’t Vlatko been fired already? Seriously.
What they have to do is clear the shelf. Keep the Karens at home. Let the team concentrate on playing soccer. Things fall apart when the centre cannot hold.
A stiff unimaginative scheme was ran by Vlatko. Time for a coach with modern tactics

Sweden you did USA so proud

I think Rapinoe did it on purpose. Someone of her caliber couldn’t possibly have an aim that off. Looks like she kicked the ball incredibly high at such a close range.
Unlikely. Soccer players are notoriously bad shots. I cringe anytime anyone (except maybe Messi) takes a shot from the penalty box area.
