Currently learning siding at work from a guy that’s been there for 29 years , he’s getting comfy there and doesn’t work like you guys , much rather learn from a crew like you have !
Nice method, I have been running vinyl for quite a while and I learned something. I have been back blading on a chop saw for years but never thought to stack them like that. I always say check your ego at the door on a jobsite, anybody can learn a simple tip or trick from anybody else at any time. That means the most experienced guy on a crew could pick up something useful from the least experienced, doesn't happen often but it does happen. The most important thing I have learned from all the jobsites that I have been on is that there is no room for egos or know it alls on a jobsite, also applies to life in general. One tip I have for you that you might find useful is to use a battery powered angle grinder to make your rips and angled cuts. That way you are only pulling out 1 tool instead of 2, and it actually does the cut faster, saves a ton of time. I carry one in my bags I don't even carry snips anymore and almost never pull out my utility knife, look for the smallest lightest one you can find, you don't need power to cut vinyl and one metal disc will last for weeks.
Helll yea you're so right. Mostly all agrees here just one disagree. I have a new guy that takes to this stuff so well, Like when I gatta think about something, just a small uncommon detail I'll look at him for confirmation I'm not about to cut the wrong side off lmao. But as for the grinders. My rule is we don't use grinders all day unless its colder out and ther vinyl cracks we use Snips for finishers. Chop saw for your staggers and in between windows and walls. Knife underneath and above windows. And grinders for anything that is at an angle going through the center rib. To each his own though! Snipping sucks if you have to do too much of it

Actually vinyl siding is a good product when installed properly. I've personally installed vinyl siding and cedar impressions on million dollar home on the water in New England. The coil/trim work is the key to a good vinyl job. It holds up well when maintained and very easy to repair.
Thanks for the useful installation tips and pointers. The filler above the window idea definitely improves the plane as the depth is no longer supported by the normal bottom channel on the piece. And, it is a readily available filler piece.
You have to turn the blade backwards! I've tried all kinds of blades and nothing has chipped unless you go too fast when its cold but even that was minor
I find that using a hook blade is a lot more controllable. Just tilt the knife a little to the side and sliced through like butter. No bending involved

You would accept 2 guys taking 20 mins together to do that beautiful, simple, square wall? If that took me more than 15 mins alone I would be ashamed. A wall that true, you can get every piece cut before you start installing, and have them all from the ground to the wall in under 5 minutes. Longest part is taking numbers and planning.
he's a roofer. they really don't know jack shit about anything else. it's all about speed for them. looking inside his trailer tells me all i need to know. no good tradesman lets his trailer get that messy
How about not being THAT asshole boss that seems to think trashing your guys on the video is the best way to "correct" them. Other than that, AWESOME instructional video!
Pro tip for those looking to hire a tradesman; look at the truck he drives. If it's nice and somewhat new, hire him. Guys like Zack make good money because they don't screw around. They drive nice trucks because they can afford them, because they work at a good pace and have lots of customers.
I can see that but then again I've worked for a man who drove a really shitty truck but was a really rich man and did a high quality job but he was a absolute dick so eh
That is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. I know guys that had to restart their business for various reasons. I was taught the opposite to not judge anyone by their vehicle. Nice trucks don't do quality work. Skilled honest people do. I know contractors that have great vehicles and are the worst in my area. So in closing what you said is complete bullshit. He looks like he is trying to prove something to someone, maybe the guys that are late but when you out siding up by yourself that fast you will make moatakes. Hell where I live you cant install siding by yourself according to code.
MetalGuru965 , maybe, but SOME guys like Zack are crooks that throw out insanely high bids, and get stupid and/or old people to say "ok". Lot's of that going around, especially since 2020.
He said he was hitting the studs only at the beginning of the video when he was doing the starting run @ 5:25. I try to put the joints of the sheathing at the studs if possible. He did too under window
You mean the j is barely nailed? Its got plenty in it. And it doesn't need to be taped because of what's underneath our fanfold. Trust me it's my name going on this, my workmanship warranty, i would've taken more precautions If needed. This house is 105 years old!

Believe me ain't going nowhere bud. There is solid cedar behind that and the nails are hitting more meat than it sounds like. I would put my name on that job 10 times over. I would've done something different if I felt uncertain because I would never blame storm damage over my workmanship.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction Very good video though, I like how you talk and explain things properly and keep it fast paced and entertaining. Personally I'm just not a big fan of siding but it seems to be what most people go for as it's cheap and quick. Compared to building a house with stone and brick which costs lots and time etc..
Always. Always. Always. Except here. I hate when people try to use grinders or setup a simple cut table for one side. I snip everything but pieces I need multiple of and gable angles. If you're trying to thaaaaat with snips you can have that
The vibe I get from this video is that you might have anger issues, despite your vinyl siding skills. If that was my son and I happened to see his "boss" being rude with him like that, I would not like it very much.
Oh stop it. What's the time stamp? This is construction and they all understand the way things are lol we all treat each other the same. They have permission to treat me the same
Yes he would, trying to move to quickly and prove a 20min point has his mind running in a million directions. 20 min turned into 30+ min due to minor error because of showing off for the camera and saying what he ecspects of his guys yet he can't complete the task in 20min but wants someone less experienced than him to meet a 20min mark. Typical boss get it done quick so I make money while I pay you 10 bucks an hour to hang.
His father never accepted him unfortunately. He always needs a pat on the back. Hopefully he will outgrow it at some point. He’s a hell of a worker but I see more of an emptiness in his soul.
Fweeewww..... A lot happened there. You should have trashed that video and tried again on another wall; however it was entertaining. Were the little holes you made with the nail head ment to clip to the j? I've only used that crimp trick when a sill lock is installed inside of the j... I don't think it's going anywhere but couldn't you have just used your giant tube of subfloor glue to stick it?
@@NWIVeteranConstruction hmmm I feel like the nailing flange of the piece below the window would have covered it and the notch wouldn't have been able to lock anyway especially because the t-lock is right there which sticks out a lot farther than sill lock. Anyway you can make an easy jig with some plywood and 2x4s that allows you to use a circular saw thus being much more efficient at multi cutting and you won't have to pray on your knees every time you cut. If you have a metal break you can lock your long notches in it for just a sec for fast straight cuts.
Man you teaching people the wrong way to do something what was your gap in between those nails like 36 inches come on man warranty calls for hitting studs also you should have laid the walls out better for the windows also your krimps are supposed to be every 6 inchs good video on how not to do it the right way 100% the wrong way also have your own tools as a boss man I have a separate bag that they don't touch you are only sabotaging your self 1 more thing if you turn your blade backwards everyone it will help prevent the chipping
man how slow can you get stick on wall and cut as you go,if you work for me you would be walking down the road kicking cans talking to your self, how did you get five and half on on one side two and three quarters on the other side sloppy your fired get off my job.

What's painful about it and what's wrong about it? How do you install vinyl!? I lasered on my starter, all my ribs line up, theres play in every piece for expansion and contraction AND I over nailed so nobody can say anything about a lack of nails. I'm so intrigued to hear your answer.
@@pags30z I said if it took 2 guys more than 20 minutes not one guy. Also most guys don't chop pieces Like I did so naturally this is a fast one man install because of my speed tricks. Back to the first point though, Ever heard 2 ants will get more done together than separate? Meaning! It shouldn't be exactly twice the speed, it should actually be more like 3 times the speed. And as far as edited parts go, the crimps weren't on the jobsite, it takes 10 seconds to crimp and I showed much more time than that using a nail to crimp. NOT TO MENTION I got a whole ass jobsite going on, a camera on me, and the homeowner standing there Like true bird dog just watching me. Its not as easy as I make it look bud. Trust me on that.

It's old wood siding behind it. We took down the aluminum and put fan fold over the base siding that's nearly 100 yrs old. Its all solid. Every nail it in there good enough for me to honor my warranty
What kind of blade are you running?
Regular. Chop blade backwards. More teeth probably better
I'm pretty sure your cameraman would've followed that butterfly if it didn't land on your shoulder he didn't care about anything else
What tool bags do you use?
I was using some craftsman ones that I stole from my little brother when he gave up on construction but I just bought some brand new ones today after work and i believe they're the newer craftsman. I'll let you know how they are, they look like my dream set of bags lol
@@NWIVeteranConstruction awesome I will have to look those up my boss always says that the older craftsman bags were the shit. You should do a video on them there are always new guys looking for a new better set of bags instead of the 50$ set from hoes depot lol good video and thanks for the reply
@@samuelschmudlach8387 np bud. Mine were 36 at the depot. I expect them to be good
Update. They're husky, 36$ and I love them. I got the one with the hammer behind you Like a tail because that always been my preference. They're good though
@@NWIVeteranConstruction awesome! Yeah I carry my hammer behind me as well except I have 3 different brands bags are McGuire Nicholas belt is bucket boss and a CLC hammer loop in the back lol I will have to check out the husky's.
U never pull down off top off window on each side to make sure their running the same huh
Sorry should watched whole video first
Yea no problem lol
Hey bro what’s that around your waist
Really?
@@codyalexander9470 yeah really because he never wears a tool belt lol don’t start
Ohhhhhhhhh ok sorry I was heavily confused but now that I get it yea that's pretty funny and the really was more of me asking if its was a real question or not
@@codyalexander9470 all good but yeah if you watch his roofing vids he never wears a belt lol which is kool because I never wear one
@@thunderrainroofing5734 yea i rarely ever wore mine either but I have seen a good amount of his roofing vids and for some reason it just didn't clicked might be because im tired as shit rn
what type of shears are you using their son
You would accept 2 guys taking 20 mins together to do that beautiful, simple, square wall? If that took me more than 15 mins alone I would be ashamed. A wall that true, you can get every piece cut before you start installing, and have them all from the ground to the wall in under 5 minutes. Longest part is taking numbers and planning.
Not meant as a dig at your speed in this video, obviously you take longer filming it.
I didn’t watch the video, instead I just read the comments to see what all of the experts are saying. 😷
Lol yea I recommend watching
Literally your third piece is bowing like crazy man. Your fast but that's gonna look like DOG shit through actual weather bro
he's a roofer. they really don't know jack shit about anything else. it's all about speed for them. looking inside his trailer tells me all i need to know. no good tradesman lets his trailer get that messy
How about not being THAT asshole boss that seems to think trashing your guys on the video is the best way to "correct" them.
Other than that, AWESOME instructional video!
Haha you got me wrong. It's all jokes bro everyone in construction Messes with each other to make the day go by. I'm no exception
Blurred out the number on the side of the trailer but walks round with it all day on his back🤣
That's allieds phone number lol
Hey brother nice video. Your flag is flying a little backwards.
What type of blade are you using and did you put the blade on backwards?
Regular wood blade backwards yes. I think more teeth the better. But every blade I've ever put in backwards works
@@NWIVeteranConstruction thanks as always you da man
Spaz but thanks for info
👍
@@joestradamus2198 Next he’ll be saying not to go to the barber with the best haircut! 😂
Yeah man that sun is a bitch 😂 Heat index has been 110+ for a while now.
Looks like he's trying to catch a chicken all the time.
😂😂
Or smoking crack
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
He didnt mark out any stud locations, just nailing into plywood willl loosen over time and siding will blow off.
😂😂
He said he was hitting the studs only at the beginning of the video when he was doing the starting run @ 5:25. I try to put the joints of the sheathing at the studs if possible. He did too under window
Sorry he said "it's all studs behind this" while he was nailing into a stud
That window is barely nailed and not taped, Can anyone explain this to me?
You mean the j is barely nailed? Its got plenty in it. And it doesn't need to be taped because of what's underneath our fanfold. Trust me it's my name going on this, my workmanship warranty, i would've taken more precautions If needed. This house is 105 years old!
You ain't checking if the pieces of siding level you're not checking your Shadow line on the other side of your corner I'll blow you away at siding
Cause he knows he's really good at it and it'll come out right...and it came out perfect, ya dang dipstick hater!!
It’s all the people who don’t no shit bout construction tht say this dudes the best .. he got shitty tools and he’s a mess no stand cutting on the grass like a bum really I take the time to set up properly I have everything neat organized he dnt no where any of his shit is
Vinyl is pure garbage. Other than that, you always have great vids.
not a fan either
Good quality siding and vinyl should never ever be in the same sentence.
I am graduating From high school I am wondering are you hiring and Ware are you located at
A couple of 2" x 12"s on saw horses and put the saw on those. Cut there and save you back.
See new soffit video. Comment #2. Times to click on. There's always a method to my madness lmao n Jerry I told you to stop commenting last week lol please unsubscribe.
I can tell by how he is choked halfway up the handle of his hammer and by the gentle tapping that he isnt hittin anything very solid. For sure hit the studs...mr pro
Good eye sir
27:35 you could just use some undersil
Could've. But this was free at this point and basically cut to length already
@@NWIVeteranConstruction nice job- really enjoy your videos. Very Informative. Keep them coming
Awesome thanks for the support man
Those nails aren't going into "solid" wood, that's why they get ripped off in storms and then it's blamed as storm damage..
Compared to building a house with stone and brick which costs lots and time etc..
that messy trailer..
Tin shears lol. What real men use.
Always. Always.
They have permission to treat me the same
Why tf one side was 2 and the other one 51/2??? I don't do Siding but I think he fuck up
Stop spazzing, youll move quicker.
LOL
His father never accepted him unfortunately. He always needs a pat on the back. Hopefully he will outgrow it at some point. He’s a hell of a worker but I see more of an emptiness in his soul.
Fweeewww..... A lot happened there. You should have trashed that video and tried again on another wall; however it was entertaining. Were the little holes you made with the nail head ment to clip to the j? I've only used that crimp trick when a sill lock is installed inside of the j... I don't think it's going anywhere but couldn't you have just used your giant tube of subfloor glue to stick it?
There was undersill in that j
@@NWIVeteranConstruction hmmm I feel like the nailing flange of the piece below the window would have covered it and the notch wouldn't have been able to lock anyway especially because the t-lock is right there which sticks out a lot farther than sill lock. Anyway you can make an easy jig with some plywood and 2x4s that allows you to use a circular saw thus being much more efficient at multi cutting and you won't have to pray on your knees every time you cut. If you have a metal break you can lock your long notches in it for just a sec for fast straight cuts.
Damn, I hate siding!!
Haaaaha really? Only person I ever knew that genuinely hated siding was the best roofer I ever met
Hack!!!
man how slow can you get stick on wall and cut as you go,if you work for me you would be walking down the road kicking cans talking to your self, how did you get five and half on on one side two and three quarters on the other side sloppy your fired get off my job.
maybe yo throwed it away somewhere
It was in James pouches like I expected lol
Too many things wrong with this....I don't know where to start!!!
Please start somewhere
@Jon Cole jon, calling me a bumbass behind the key's of a keyboard.......never mind you are not worth any more effort!!!
@Jon Cole I will watch the video again, make a list and send it to you.
Painful to watch.... definitely not how to install vinyl, nothing wrong with using a miter saw but on the ground¿? To each his own good luck with all that!!! And you know what they say about assuming stuff? Ass outta u and me lol🤙🤙👎👎
What's painful about it and what's wrong about it? How do you install vinyl!? I lasered on my starter, all my ribs line up, theres play in every piece for expansion and contraction AND I over nailed so nobody can say anything about a lack of nails. I'm so intrigued to hear your answer.
@@NWIVeteranConstruction vsi standards?? Or my practices n habits?
@@NWIVeteranConstruction its painful because you said it yourself it was a 10-20 min wall and you have an edited 40 min video...... come on bruh
