The current state of our world is very stress inducing. It would be a death sentence NOT to try and see the light in the darkness. We must go out of our way to be kind to one another and keep hope alive. Tearing each other down will only result in the demise of our own well being. Peace❤
It can really change your day, and the receiver's day, just smiling at strangers. As a mom I really appreciate kind strangers around my children. Small chat and smiling is good for the soul.
I always try to tell people in the comments that things are constantly getting better since the old days, and that the old days were actually worse. People just live better and longer today, it's just that they're more connected to the media, and they don't realize what kind of impact it has on their outlook of life. This video is much appreciated, especially from a channel like yours.
Thank you for making this, I happen to already share your perspective but it's important to me that nobody forgets how far we've come and that humans are just humans. Everyone really just wants to be happy, and it's good to share that with others.
I'm 21 years old and having a hard time in staying positive.... anxiety and pessimism have taken a toll on me... it's hard sometimes to have a positive attitude towards life when you see all the injustices and poisonous political atmosphere surrounding us.... anyways thank you for your beautiful documentaries, they help me with my anxiety sometimes
David, thank you! I'll try to not jump to negative comments, especially on your channel. I share your sentiments. Government of the people, for the people, by the people, only works as well as the people work with one another. PS. I love Mainers!!!! Aka you Maineiac's. Never met a Mainer I didn't like instantly.
Sir this video was greatly needed. Everyday I see lot of negativity but this video restored my faith that there are still people who you can bank on bring positive attitude to life. Thanks a lot sir🌹
Always a pleasure to watch your work. See the positive, see only the good in others; to see each as an unique beautiful Jewel that they are. The gift of a smile can be given to anyone at any time, so let your light shine.
Wonderful David, such sound advice. No one should be offended by someone who wants to share what makes their life better, and how it can help to make our life better. Yes the words of Jesus should be a testament of how we should react to others. Treat them, as you would like to be treated. Golden Rule,: Do unto others , as you would have them do unto you. my parents told me that way back when, and it works. Not that Ive always followed it, but I try to. And I can tell you from my own experiences, that its true, I myself, had an experience that I will share, as I had been waiting a very very long time, for a test at the hospital to be done, the longer I waited the more stressed out I was getting, so by the time the nurse finally did call me back, I was not a happy camper. But she smiled and was so very kind to me, & that by her kind reaction that she gave to me , it changed my attitude 100 % , in fact it made me go from about a 100 down to 0 in a 2 seconds. , I felt so ashamed of myself. for allowing something as trivial as a long wait, to aggravate me. Boy, did my day go better, after that. As I thought about that, and how that kind nurse, had helped me to calm down, so quickly. I decided from then on, to try everyday to treat orhers the same as I would have them treat me. I even went back later and told her how I appreciated her. We never know what another person has been through, or what they are going through, but Im a firm believer that a smile, and a little love goes a long way, and by practicing it, maybe it will help to make someones day better. Love, a true and honest love, that comes from your heart, and having love of your fellowman ,comes from God, and it is beautiful. Yes , I had to stop watching the fox news channel, our country is so divided, its so sad, to see this happening. The only channels I now watch is yours, old movies, and some preachers, which even that is getting bad. Religion & politics are 2 subjects , that people absolutely dont agree on. It brings about negative feelings to everyone, sometimes. Thank you David, I love you and your videos my friend, I truly do. You have such a good heart, and beautiful soul, Thank you for your thoughts, we all can use some encouragement. Gods blessings to you and your family. 👍❤
Wow, ive never heard that term before. Borrowed perspectives. That really has me thinking. We *must* make assumptions, generalizations, and borrow perspectives just to get along in society today. But if we're aware that many of our perspectives are borrowed we can live much more gracefully. Things arent so personal when you think about the idea that another person's incorrect perception isnt malicious, if anything its still an attempt to understand. That comment may not make sense but i hope someone gets it :)
Mr. Hoffman, thank you again for another great video. I couldn't agree with you more about the disappointment felt in the negativity and the increasing partisanship of our country. Your advice is wonderful and I definitely try to follow that in my day-to-day, but being surrounded by a large group of people who think very differently than me about a lot of things, it can be difficult to have a good conversation when it seems it always ends up back on politics. I hope we can find a way to drop the labels and identities of negativity, and that one day we may be able to just see each other a little more as family, friends, Americans, and people.
This isn't getting nearly as much attention as it should. Social media has been proven by so many different studies to cause depression and the way the news focus on bad news because they get more clicks burdens us every single day and yet nobody seems to be willing to look at this problem.
You can absolutely make someone's day by just smiling at that person. It used to be my job, back when I flew. Now I do it because invariably they smile back, and that makes MY day. Insofar as everyone feeling down and out, I live in Reno, NV, which is one happy place. Everyone seems so friendly here, and cheerful. Good vibe.
The video we needed to see... I read a piece by Mark Twain and he was commenting on the Gilded Age (late 1900s) and how the negativity was so strong back then... History repeats and rhymes...and you will get over it. -signed, a happy (?) Canadian
It's good to see someone trying to unite us in common cause without alterior motives... this is a conversation worth having because years ago election fever would be over in a week and nobody cared about Republican or Democrats especially when they are both the same at the government level..it's as you get further from the top where left and right get further away... when I hear about people who were friends for years and all of a sudden that changes because of one man sitting in the big chair... when it's abundantly clear that he's only the sign above the restaurant and every 4-8 years they get a new sign but everything else in the restaurant stinks to high heaven.. thank you my friend for saying what most of us have been saying for the last 4 years
Love to you Mr. Hoffman. You are a peach! Thanks for what you do and give. You are freaking fabulous! I adore you!! If I could have 2 Dads, I’d pick you for one.💙🔆 My bucket list, #1. Meet you and have a coffee&wonderful meaningful convo with you!!♥️ You’re on the right track Sir. Thank you again! You help me.💜 🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆 Hope your day is wonderful and fulfilling. 👍
I really appreciate hearing this, especially being of a generally sunny disposition myself, sometimes being teased by those with more negative and even cynical perspectives. I would also add music as being a point of common ground. I know tastes differ of course, though just speaking in the broadest terms as something that brings us together. Thanks so much for sharing this, and for what you do overall. -Carm
Thank you.I try to be in joy and gratitude daily. Most are living in the past,or projecting themselves into an unknown or contrived future.YES,when we come together and break bread there is a primal, familiar bond which occurs. It is all about humanity and devotion to one another.Thank you sir.So thankful for you,and will send along some love.😊🍒🌹❤🙏🏻
I think positivity comes from the community and ones intentions to be positive true the world we live in right now is a sorta clown world but we gotta be strong and come together and maybe slowdown a bit Things are moving a lot faster now and I think we gotta take a step back and look at what’s happening in congress and taxes and rent wages how people are treating each other is truly frightening David there are a lot of social issues as well but every time you upload a video it gives me an inspiration and insight into what once was we can get that back somehow someway we can thank you for your positive message and thank you for making me smile
I appreciate your optimism, David. I do believe that we as a society are in a state of crisis, but I also believe that being kind to each other and reestablishing strong community bonds can help alleviate much of the isolation, loneliness, and division in our country now. I'd recommend a book I'm reading now called The Second Mountain by David Brooks which discusses these issues and individuals who have found ways to deepen their lives and their communities. It is hard to remain optimistic given what is happening now, but I do believe that kindness and compassion can go a long way in fighting against the hatred and division that is being sown.
Thank you for making this video, David. I am reading less social media and RUclips comments because the negativity is so draining. Enjoying life involves cultivating good mental habits. I suggest one try to focus on the positive things in life and cultivate gratitude about them. That's what I'm trying to do.
We are more stressed because technology has gotten us more isolated an given us more to do with less time.. Society has gotten more cold. I have to trust my higher power that things will turn around. It is a rarity that I see or talk to anyone.. Was not this way before.. Phoenix was nicer back in the day. Am thankful that the youth are waking up an caring. We exist in an altered world. I am also trying to put an end to all these divisions. Great message
I would gladly go back to before the machine took over. Even made a video on the negative side of technology. Back then, we actually talked to each other, knew our neighbors, had communities and we went out to play. Don't know what these kids are going to do if technology crashes.
I have that same patch on your hat. I dont know where I even got it, but I only associate it with great advice and stories. Much love from a 19 y/o whose been a fan for years. Thanks for the incredible video.
Oh my gosh Mr. Hoffman, how do you do it: Provide insightful and historical archived film that shows what the prior generations thought and felt about their situation at the time, provide a historical context of what I see as the soul of America, and now you quell the sea of altercation within us all! You're a saint, where is your shrine you! Oh you always make me so glad to peek in at your channel and absorb some insight. Thank you!!!
Funny you speak of this, because I have always found this channel to be very therapeutic, so interesting and calming to travel back in time. You are greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks for the advice David! You are so right there is way too much negative things going on in this country and the world. Unfortunately the generation that came before always puts down the generation that comes after instead of learning from each other. Great message indeed. ☮
When I came out of Aldis my tire needed air. I proceeded to pump up the tire. Right away a Mennonite lady asked if I needed help, her husband was with her and would help me. I said no... I told her that was really nice of her. It made my day.
Thank You for that. I'm sure a lot of people knew this already, but forgot it over time, especially if the daily grind doesn't let you see the positive in the negative.
I'm 12 and I really enjoy watching your videos especially the 50s videos they are very cool my grandpa was born in 1950 and he tells me all these cool stories! you made it even cooler. Sorry if my english is bad im not from the states
Amen Mr. Hoffman . This lyric comes to my mind inspired by you. forgive me If i misquote. C'mon people now , smile on your brother , every body get together try to love one another right now. RIGHT NOW. God's Blessings to all
To you Mr. Hoffman. You kind sir are truely God's gift to humanity. The Youngbloods said it much better than I ever could. ENJOY ! ruclips.net/video/GdxUIZOzd5E/видео.html
A smile is a boomerang!!! It's amazing the power a smile has. I learned that long ago. And the young ladies love a smile. It never fails to break the ice.
I'm not American but i feel like this video kinda relates to alot of people right now, Love your energy David keep it up. Much love from Australia, Mate.
A Gallup study indicated that worldwide, people were more negative than they have been since the study started about 10 years ago I believe. David Hoffman-filmmaker
It seems to me that there is an artificial reason for everyone to be angry. It's hard to put my finger on it, but many things are being filtered through anger. You have much wisdom here. We need to look each other in the eye and smile.
The legit reason is the cost of living hike versus the paycheck "increases", or lack thereof. The illegitimate reason is the foreign and domestic shills, bots and MSM, trying to push the anti-American, race-war, feminism, etc. narrative. Another reason is Hollywood. People are so extremely judgmental, to the point, women get false teeth, botox and spend hours on makeup, just to "look acceptable". Combined it all with the fact that so many people come from shit ass families and flimsy or nonexistent friend networks, and you have a country that's low on serotonin and high on cortisol. Where do we go to feel good? Can't go to the family, can't go to the nonexistent friends. So we all have coping mechanisms. Some people take pills, others drink, some play video games all day, some go out in nature to GET AWAY FROM PEOPLE and some people make money, because it's more reliable than people. I predominantly use the latter two.
Nice sentiments and being born and raised a Christian, treating others as you want to treated has always worked for me. But today, since 9/11 a more insidious threat is approaching the USA and to ignore is to court disaster for our decendents. Ignoring politics is also the reason this creeping darkness is being allowed to flourish. The reason this is coming is because the adherents of this creeping miasma come from what they refer to as Dar Al Salaam, the world of peace. They have been instructed to immigrate to the other world, the world of Dar Al Harb, the world of war . They know that they will be rewarded by carrying out the instructions laid down for them in 625 and have been at constant war since then. The War will never end because those adherents and today ,the eilites and the main stream media are encouraging the war, especially through censorship of any critical comment regarding the approaching darkness. . These adherents do not believe in multicultural society and diversity is against the instructions . So,become aware of that which is approaching and since 9/11 has been allowed to Flourish throughout the west because a US president told the world, despite scholarly opinion which proves him wrong that this creeping darkness is the harbinger of peace. The adherents call you Harbi's ,the inhabitants of the world of war and Kuffar, the unbelievers. There will be only two options for kuffar in the not too distant future.yeild to the darkness or die. As instructed . Beware of the creeping Sharia. Stress about politics will keep your nation alive and free from those who hate democracy. Quran (33:36) - "It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision."
You are so right! A positive attitude is very important. And it's not just in America that society is divided and life is stressful, it's in many other places as well. In many European countries, like Croatia where I live, society is very divided politically and it's much worse actually, because there is so much corruption and injustice and so many companies gone bankrupt from privatization, people lost their jobs, the wages and pensions are very small, and the youth for the most part has no perspective for a bright future here. So, in spite of all the negative connotations with America, I'm sure it is still a great country in many aspects compared to some other places in the world. So, yes, one has to be aware of the situation right now, but at the same time not let it affect you in a negative way. It helps to try to be stoic, because the slightest things can upset a person, not just politics and the economy, especially if you are sensitive or have a short fuse. An that's a good quote from Jesus (although I'm not religious), treat others as you would like to be treated.
In the workplace is one of the hardest places. Not with the patients in the hospital but the co workers. Respect lacks. In-fighting, gossip, and snobbery. No team in teamwork. One of my staff asked me, "since you've been here the longest, what do you say?" I replied, "mind your own business not everyone else's and treat your co-workers as you want to be treated." She just stared at me. There are far too many positive things that can and should overshadow the negative. The negative needs to be addressed, oh yes, but when I do feel stressed one of my ways off balancing is to look at the daily miracles. The NICU infant getting discharged to home, the cardiac patient with positive results, etc. God bless you, David. 🌟🌟
I'm curious because I am not quite sure I understand. What is the connotation of "since you've been here the longest, what do you say?" is a hospital setting? Or in a workplace setting in general? To me as a college student who hasn't yet been in the workplace much, that makes me imagine that the staff person was just asking for advice from someone more experienced?
THKU so much for speaking your mind. in my town, never, talk about food with militant vegans! I try to find the humor in everyday life & pass on smiles whenever I can.
Ok, I realize RUclips is a form of social media so maybe I'm being a hypocrite here, but the importance of limiting your time on social media cannot be overstated. But watching your videos is somehow healing to me. I don't know how to explain it. You really seem to be a kind, caring soul and I think your humanity shows in your work. On to watch another fascinating clip. God bless.
This was much needed! As always the best advice is the simplest.
You are the man Mr. Hoffman
what an amazing guy i needed this. thank you.
You're a breath of Fresh Air and Reason!!! Positivity is Essential!!! Thank You!!!

Kindest regards to you, David Hoffman! Grateful for your work and your presence in the world.
I remember smiling at my daughter when she was a baby and how much joy her smile in return brought to my life! Nothing has ever touched it!
I'm so happy I'm subscribed to your channel. You're a good person and you have good content. Thank you.
Needed this today...best of luck to you and God bless!

Thanks man! As a youngin, I try to be optimistic to the future!
Optimism comes with age and you definitely have it. People have to experience many things to help change their borrowed perspectives.
Wow, ive never heard that term before.

@@ferfiti I absolutely agree, the less of it you consume the less bothered you are by trivial BS that is designed to upset people and get them talking
Yeah! If you lived just online, you'd think we were all living in hell. But actual real life is doing just fine, people!

You tried...
You also succeeded, great video davey!
Gosh you are great David. I needed this.
That was wonderful David thank you
This is so good and like others have said much needed. Thank you!
Great! Really great commentary David. Thank you.
Thanks Mr. Hoffman for the reminder to think and be positive. I think Americans are stressed for sure, I know I feel it!
@@StreamlinersCinema1 yes. I work in a hospital.
THKU so much for speaking your mind. in my town, never, talk about food with militant vegans! I try to find the humor in everyday life & pass on smiles whenever I can.
the golden rule... goes a long way
Ok, I realize RUclips is a form of social media so maybe I'm being a hypocrite here, but the importance of limiting your time on social media cannot be overstated. But watching your videos is somehow healing to me. I don't know how to explain it. You really seem to be a kind, caring soul and I think your humanity shows in your work. On to watch another fascinating clip. God bless.
