The CGI and special effects are really impressive for their time, and Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime to perfection. That man never disappoints. Also, it doesn't matter how many times I see it, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills.
This is random, but I’ve seen you everywhere, with nice comments, including MikeyVenture and (I think) Blind Wave. Your comments are always a pleasure.
I’d argue given the plethora of recent examples of atrocious CGI in massively expensive movies and television series, the CGI has gotten BETTER over time
I think It’s underrated how Megatron and Optimus meet each other again in this. They don’t bother with threats or speeches at each other; they just get right back into it like nothing’s changed over the last thousand years
In the lore, the reason why the first thing Megatron says is his name is because the whole time he was frozen he was conscious and angry that they were calling him NBE 1 instead of his glorious name. And he somewhat respected Sam specifically because he was the first to call him by his name. “This is NBE-1!” “Shut up stupid ass” “Naw that’s Megatron” “ok I’m killing you last”
Thats why I do believe his offer to keep Sam as his pet was sincere. It would be an example of his massive ego, allowing the only human to remain, because he acknowledges him
The scene with them calling the pentagon and getting customer service is based off real life. It happened to the team that was training the actors for the gun scenes and they added it to the movie
For your transformation question. Typically any Cybertronian has one alternate mode. If they want a new alt mode, they have to scan a new machine (usually a vehicle) which discards the old alt mode. But there are some Cybertronians that can have 2 alt modes, or even 5! There's also the INCREDIBLY rare Shifters, that can just freely transform as they please. And the metal they are made of is of their own biology, typically called "living metal" or "cyber-matter," that allows them to shift and contort to the forms as they please.
@coopinatormusic6214 Thanks for the additional info. Can you evaluate if it is a design flaw or a storytelling flaw that none of the Autobots chose an aircraft mode instead of the inferior land vehicles that is something that has always bothered me in all the movies.
@@Karadjanov That's just how it's been for Transformers as a whole. One show made it a plot point that Autobots were incapable of flight (something that is very much not true in other Transformers media), but for the most part it's just how it's been. Usually from a marketing standpoint.
Here’s a fun little fact. The car parked beside Bumblebee at the dealership was a yellow beetle. Bumblebee’s original alternate mode back in gen 1 was a yellow beetle as well. A nice little reference for older fans.
I forgot how fun the first Transformers film was! Compared to the later sequels, the cinematography is great here as the shaky cam is kept at a minimum. I also love that they got the voice actors from the 80s series, especially Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime!
@brianlinville5420 I could not agree more. As a matter of fact, TF3 was supposed to be the last Bayverse Transformers movie. That’s why it was so big and epic and fantastic, because he wanted the series to go out with a bang, but Hasbro and the fans wanted more. So he basically just made the movies 4 and 5 for profit as all of his actual creativity was poured into TF3.
Got to see it on opening night. The crowd was a cross between gearheads and old school nerds. During the end fight with Optimus and Megatron this little girl, probably about 8 or 9, stood up on the back of the one of the seats and screamed "KICK HIS ASS OPTIMUS!" and the crowd went nuts. Was an amazing movie to finally hit theaters kind of deal back then. Good times.
This was in my opinion the best out of the Bayverse movies, since it showed how behind the Autobots are in terms of firepower and combat capabilities, and how much of a problem Megatron was. Fun fact that scene in the desert where they were running to the village, the explosions were a bit of a surprise for the actors, so thats real fear and shock in their faces running for their lives. Also RIP Jazz, you were robbed of your potential.
“Were we so different?” Such a hard line and also a great response to the “Humans bad” trope in films. Optimus is truly a goat! Also, Starscream taking down the F-22’s was one of the coolest things in the entire series
Man Peter Cullen has the most legendary voice period. This man could be reading a grocery list and I would sit there and listen to him and the story where he explains the origins of Optimus voice and that he got inspiration for it from his brother is amazing.
@@Squishy-BallsI can imagine Optimus working at a bread store and Megatron comes in looking for a baguette and a brioche like that bread bank meme lmao
Steve Jablonsky's scores for all 5 of these films are absolute fire. While other areas dip up and down in quality, the music remains consistently amazing.
The legend goes that after seeing the prototypes in Japan, the entire Transformers lore, Optimus Prime, Megatron, the War for Cybertron, all thought up and decided by two guys in the back of a taxi.
Yeah no this CGI, action, cinematography, sound design and music makes this movie so enjoyable and it should get all the credits. Its insanely cool, and doesnt need to be anymore than that. Also I love that Bay loves to showcase the military power and competence
Saw this movie in the theater with my dad and it blew me away! Originally Joseph Khan and Robert Zemeckis were considered for directing the film, until Michael Bay was picked. He didn't want to direct the film, thinking it was a stupid kids movie aimed at toys, but when he read the script, he immediately signed on for the project. The original script was a lot different, told from the human characters perspective, like a disaster movie, and that none of the robot characters had any dialogue. The climax of the film was going to take place in the Grand Canyon, where the Autobots and Decepticons have an old west style showdown.
I remember watching the films with my mom and seeing her get so freaking emotional. I miss seeing that excitement in her eyes as she named off each of the Autobots and Decepticons
The best of the first five as far as plot and storytelling. Bumblebee was originally a VW bug in the cartoon, so having the Camaro hit the bug with its door was Michael bay's way of saying this won't be the transformers you remember. All of the original vehicles were either German or Japanese models in the cartoon, but they got a lot of money from General Motors for the movies, so they had to use their cars and trucks
And at the time, the new Camaro hadn't been released yet so the car in the movie was a prototype and the movie was sort of an unveiling of the car. I believe they even came out with a Transformers or Bumblebee edition Camaro at some point.
True, as stated above me, the newer Camaro used was actually a prototype of the new production model. From what I remember reading, the actors were barely allowed to touch the car, and they had to be extra careful, because that was the only one on the set.
I remember seeing this first live adaptation to Transformers on the big screen and it, to me was a sight to behold. Everyone has their takes when it comes to the Michael Bay Transformers films, but this one walked so that the others could run. The cgi on the Cybertronians look very good and I also like the soundtrack as well, especially the “Arrival to Earth” track. It is as memorable and epic as they come!
The name of every Transformers in order, (some you may remember from the classics, others are new): Blackout - Decepticon assassin Scorponok - Used as Blackout's drone in this movie Bumblebee - Autobot scout and Sam's bodyguard Frenzy - A Decepticon Minicon, whose role is espionage and sabotage Barricade - Frenzy's partner in this movie and a Decepticon spy Optimus Prime - Leader of the Autobots Jazz - First lieutenant, especially in the G1 original Ironhide - Weapons specialist Ratchet - Medic Devastator ( or in other media as Brawl ) - A Decepticon brute warrior Bonecrusher - Decepticon warrior Megatron - The tyrannical leader of the Decepticons
I know people didn’t like first main characters but I always thought the first 3 films where better because of them and there chemistry. After they left the next haven’t been that good.
Idk if anyone’s mentioned it yet but the reason the fear and panic of the soldiers seems very real and authentic is because the production team set live primacord in the sand. They didn’t reveal the location of the explosives to the actors and all the direction they got was to run from point A to point B, say their lines, and they did it not knowing when the explosives would be set off
Bumblebee always had a voice before this adaptation. I can’t remember why Michael Bay decided to make bumblebee have no voice, but some tv shows decided to go along with it because it worked in the movie
Not always. In the Beast Wars cartoon, they show that Bumblebee lost his voice during the past time travel, so it is canon. I think they kept it to lower the costs and to make him more childlike since he couldn't talk.
In Bumblebee, it's showed that he lost his voicebox because Blitzwing ripped it out after he refused to give up Optimus Prime's location, hence why he can only communicate through radio and garbled sounds throughout the entirety of the Bayverse
1:09:17 for your gk, the decepticons actually have more aerial soldiers than autobots due to the storyline in comics where decepticons are shown the first ones to master flight.
Bumblebee was the audience's entry to the Transformers in the cartoon. He was the first one you saw on screen, and then when they come to Earth, he befriends Spike Witwicky, and they have adventures together. But, he wasn't really the "main character" like he was in these movies. The cartoon was more of an ensemble. Spike interacted with all of them, but was closest with Bumblebee.
I love how all the Transformers look and the cartoon Transformers prime is the only transformers media Ive seen that balances the autobots and humans working together well and the decepticons being villains greatly, it just focuses on the transformers more
1:06:50 I personally believe that though Megatron stasis at sector 7 and couldn't move he could probably still hear or feel things around him. Like those stories where someone was in a coma and when they woke up, they said they heard everything their visitors said to them. Basically, Megatron heard and felt he humans poking a prodding at him for 50+ years. I can imagine him saying "I am Megatron" and destroying the place when he first wakes up because he is tired of the humans calling him NBE 1. Normally when someone wakes from a normal coma their first reaction is to say "Where am I." Megatron doesn't do that and seems to have an idea that the cube was in sector 7 with him or else he'd probably go straight back to the Arctic to get it. It's my personal head cannon to make the like "Humans don't deserve to live" more sense as it sounds vengeful the way he says it.
Fun Fact guys, All Cybertronians have an organ called a T-Cog that allows them to scan vehicles and transform. And the name of that Scorpion Decipticon is Scorponok.
Fun facts: - The Cube/Allspark is the new concept of energy source for the Cybertronians in this iteration. In the previous series, the energy source of all Transformers is Energon, which is the fuel, food, and lifeblood of the Transformers. The Cube here is a new concept made for this movie. - This movie may be the only time we see the original Autobot team in a funny moment. - The voice of Optimus Prime is by legendary Peter Cullens, who has also voiced the same character in G1 since 1984. - In the G1 original series, Bumblebee can talk. Here in this movie, they made its era iteration of Bee by having him mute, lose his voice box in the line of duty. This idea was carried out sometime in the 20s.
It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills. As a Transformers fan since 2001, I grew up hearing Neil Kaplan voice Optimus. From Neil Kaplan, I heard Garry Chalk's Optimus voice in the Unicron trilogy. I feel a little like a fraudulent fan because it took me until the live-action movies and the series Transformers Prime to hear Peter Cullen speak as Optimus Prime to truly bask in the glory of the Supreme Commander of the Autobots.
I saw this in theaters and loved it. What you don't get viewing at home is how loud the sounds design was. It was truly an immersive experiance. No one could talk over the movie, just the screams of appreciations adding to madness of the action.
1. One thing that always fascinated me was that, apparently, Michael Bay signed on for this movie after reading the script and being told that the studio wanted it to be filmed almost like a disaster movie. And, tbh, if you look at it from that perspective a lot of the creative decisions make sense and I can kind of appreciate them to an extent. 2. Personally this movie and Dark of the Moon are the best movies of the Bayverse. They take themselves just seriously enough to get across the gravity of the stakes, the more childish humor is at a minimum and the villains don't feel like props. 3. The animation and CGi has aged *beautifully* and the soundtrack is really something else
You are correct. Peter Cullen has been doing Optimus Prime since the Original 80s cartoon. There have been others play Optimus at times but Fans that have been there since Gen 1 will say there is only one Optimus Prime and thats Peter Cullen. He is THE Prime.
The Chevrolet Camaro was in production from 1966-2002. In 2009, the Transformers trailer showcasing the "new" Bumblebee changing from the old Camaro to the new one served as the unveiling of the brand-new resurrected 2010 Camaro.
I’m so excited that you guys are now reacting to the Transformers film series. While the story, and acting isn’t incredible I still enjoy them for the action, music and visual effects which makes the series standout and of course Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. Hopefully once you finish with all 5 of the Michael Bay Transformers films you will start doing _Bumblebee_ and _Rise of the Beasts_ and also big congrats on gaining 230k subscribers 2 days ago.
Honestly, one of the most understated elements about Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS 1, 2 & 3 movies is their EXCELLENT scores and sound design, on top of the timeless CGI effects. Gives me goosebumps EVERY time I watch it :)
This movie worked to bring the cartoon balance between playful and serious-it’s meant for kids and teenage boys, obviously! The CGI for solid surfaces was pretty on point and worked really well. The original is by far the best IMO.
Of all of them, this is probably my favorite. It had the right amount of serious and the right amount of zero fucks. it went hard on the CGI. It made fun of a lot of tropes. Shia is really good at the semi-improved feeling rapid fire lines. The characters were all interesting and had some progression. Lots of things blew up. Space robots. What's not to like? And yeah, I think they were kind of having a little fun at the expense of teenagers. We all feel like Sam. Trying to be way cooler than we are, etc. We wish we had a vintage Camaro that turned out to be an alien robot. It's just a damn fun movie.
Always loved this movie when it came out. In fact this was my introduction to Peter Cullen, having started this franchise with Beast Wars and Garry Chaulk. Also Michael Bay LOVES the military. Every scene with the soldiers and officers play out like actual operations. Even the cell phone scene was based on a story told from a soldier.
( 16:52 ) oh, Transforms do this all the time. Sometimes called “Minicons” they often serve as spies or minions. Soundwave is best known for having multiple of them under his command, yet actually treating them like family despite being a Decepticon.
Aren't we all starting to appreciate this more and more, after watching Rise of The Beasts 2023? Everything was so good: music, jokes, cinematography, plot, CGI...
@@softsounds8453It was pretty good but the cgi isn’t as crisp and the script can be a little off or dry sometimes. But I’ll take almost any transformers movie, so I’m probably not the best to judge it 😅
This is one of my favourite Transformers movie. Underrated compared to the others. Funny as well as brilliant cinematography. My brother had an Optimus Prime robot in the 80’s that was really cool. He would play with it for hours. He watched the cartoons too.
In regards to why Optimus didn't think of putting the all spark into Megatron their actually is a reason. There was a slim chance for the cube to just power Megatron up even more and make him stronger, you actually hear Optimus yelling "Sam no!" as he wasnt sure what would happen.
In the IDW comics Megatron used to be a slave miner until he caused a riot to fight against the corrupt Autobot elite, becoming a gladiator and civil rights activist before starting the civil war and creating the Decepticon movement! Optimus used to be a libarian and body guard called Orion Pax who was originally friends with Megatron and wanted to stop the corruption on their planet before Megatron became corrupt himself, becoming the oppressive evil he had once swore to destroy!
@@USCFlashIf you call this one "crap" and hate on it, man I've got sympathy for you. You're probably a geewhiner, better stick to ROTB, It's goofy friendly.
@@spongeboymebob771 That is amazing logic...so, because I am not going to be handed $150 million to make an action film, suddenly, a terrible movie becomes magically good? You truly are "that guy".
Aw damn I'm at the part where the audio go muted so I'll take the time to type this out. You're right about them being able to turn into any piece of tech so long as its a reasonable size. In the original cartoons, the Decepticon Soundwave turned into a boombox/cassette player and he had these little transforming guys that helped him that turned into cassettes. The little metal dude in this movie turning into a boombox is a reference to Soundwave because he's named after one of Soundwave's cassettes, Frenzy :)
Barricade is the only Decepticon in this movie to show his insignia while in vehicle form. I've actually turned my car into a slightly modified version where it has every marking seen on Barricade's car put instead of where it says police on Barricade my car reads security. My car is also a different model than Barricade's Ford Mustang Saleen.
I remember when my mom took me and my uncle (her youngest brother) to go see this movie in theaters in the summer of 2007. (I was 9 years old at the time, I turned 10 that fall.) This is my favorite movie in the franchise. (While I do consider "Revenge of the Fallen" the best movie, the first one still remains my favorite.) This is what made fall in love with the "Transformers" franchise from the very beginning.
Hey guys! Ok so I didn't 'grow up' watching the animated series, as I was already an adult lol. I of course knew of them to a small extent. Anyways, in first seeing the trailer for this, it made me think- Wow...this looks good! I gotta go. So yeah, this shocked and surprised me at how very cool it was, let alone the SFX! Plus, OP's voice just reverberates through you. MB has a huge respect for our Military as I think a brother of his was in one of the branches, and speaking as a AF brat, I love the inclusion and lifting up of our Military. On another note, the older actor whose name you couldn't recall, is Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie's Father. He was also in the first M:I movie. And Fun Fact, the blondish Military guy who was JV's right hand is - Steven Ford, actor son of former VP and Pres. Gerald Ford ( Mother- Betty Ford, frm. 1st Lady). Overall....I mostly enjoyed the first 3 Transformers movies. I tried watching the one with Mark Wahlburg but but couldn't get into it. Was fun watching your reactions!😊
As someone who watch the original 80s transformers cartoon episode by episode season by season The story lines in these movies are great. In comparison the transformer storylines in the original cartoon were like SpongeBob episode where each one was its own unique storyline. They barely had any storylines that can stretch past two episodes other than the fourth season, which was a four episode season rather than 40-50 episodes.
I’m so excited for you to watch the next ones! I LOVE the transformer movies! The CGI, the sound affects and soundtrack. Also the military stuff is really cool!
I remember in the dvd commentary Micheal Bay was saying how the credit card while in the middle of a fire fight was based on a story a soldier(friend?) told him they had to use a land line to call in the middle of a fire fight to get support. also i dont remember where I heard it, but i think they wanted to hide the cube in a place that had a lot of concrete to block its radiation which is why they had to go to a city.
One of my favorites out of the franchise. I remember being in the theater for this and everyone was excited for one part. Little fact: There's a rock formation called Shiprock that is famous in my area. So of course when it popped up on screen, everyone yelled "Shiprock!" and clapped.
Anyone else getting the sound muted around the 35 minute mark when the autobots are arriving if it was just the movie I’d understand but the guys are as well and I can see them talking.
Absolutely criminal how later movies reduced the amazing transformations to bad CGI flying blocks. Easily the best part of this first movie are the movements of the transformers.
Transformers 1 was actually the best movie in the series, even though it’s literally a huge advertisement for the US military, the movie itself is hilarious and action packed !
I got so hyped when I saw the notification of this video Im SOOO glad you guys are reacting to what I think is a cinematic classic and my childhood movie!!!!
Im happy to say I saw this movie in the theatres when it came out, twice I think. Im not a movie snob, but I can tell the difference between good story telling and...not so good, and while Transformers had its flaws here and there, mainly with some of Sam's story, and maybe they needed to cut some fat - HOWEVER, I LOVED this movie, a great action movie, fantastic visuals and cg, it was honestly exhilarating seeing this on the big screen - seeing my childhood nostalgic memories come to life like this, I was blown away. Yes, it's not Inception, it's not a deep character study, it's not a convoluted plot with incredible catharsis - but that's a strong point I find. This was PERFECT for giant robots that transform into vehicles and jets, I dont know what more people would want lol. Yes, i think it's a passtime for critics and internet people to criticize Michael Bay, but credit where credit is due, the guy made an AMAZING action movie. Yes, Sam had a lot of plot armour, but Im not sure what people were expecting. Are there some scenes that could be improved? Sure, but for what it was meant to be - a great action movie, I was very, very pleased
The first 2 and 3 ish parts were never that bad it's after that where it gets janky, i absolutely can't wait for you guys to watch the rest of the franchise
In the scene where Sam and his Dad go to the used car lot Bumblebee is parked next to and subsequently ruins a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, which is the type of car Bumblebee originally was in the animated series. On the sponsorship thing: The new Camaro wasn't out when this movie was being made so the one that appears in the film is actually the concept version of the car (you can tell by the side view mirrors). At the time of filming there wasn't a production version available so it's actually basically a kit car built over an early 2000's Pontiac GTO (the actual production Camaro's in their first generation of the reissue actually shared an engine and transmission with the GTO). If you pay attention in the background there are like four or five GTOs that get destroyed as civilian cars being that the production had an excessive amount on hand presumably for parts for the "hero car" Camaro. This first film was definitely sponsored by GM as all of the vehicles with the exception of Optimus are GM. The Camaro, the Pontiac solstice, the hummer, the GMC sierra, not to mention all of the government vehicles. It's also no surprise that the first villain car you see is a ford mustang which has had a historic rivalry with the Chevy Camaro.
You missed two mid-credit scenes. One that has the parents talking to a TV crew, denying that anything happened; and another that showed Starscream retreating into space (which kind of answers your complaint about where the remaining Decepticons went, though Barricade just vanished before the battle even began).
I'm so glad you guys WNR are reacting to Transformers. My fav would be Dark of the Moon and can't wait for you guys to see it. My ranking of them would be 1. Transformers 2. Dark of the Moon 3. Revenge of the Fallen 4. Age of Extinction 5. Last Knight
I disagree with Revenge of the Fallen being put at Three if anything I put It above Last Night but below Age of Extinction so my listing of the Bay Transformers are: 1. Transformers 2. Dark of the Moon 3. Age of Extinction 4. Revenge of the Fallen 5. The Last Night
@@andreasedich2418 I can agree about _Age of Extinction_ being long and the story not being good, but frankly I literally didn’t enjoy _Revenge of the Fallen_ in my honest opinion and would watch rather Age of Extinction over Revenge of the Fallen. At least Extinction had the Dinobots even if they were "underutilized”
I know people had their ups and downs with these movies. But I legitimately loved the first movie with the crude humor and epic explosions. It got me into the cartoons and the lore. Really good movie
They did my boy Jazz dirty. He's one if my favorite autobots and they just delifed him off in the first movie. Megatron is actually named after one of the first primes, Megatronus. Megatron also won the tournament of the primes to become a prime, but hasn't chosen. Also I just subscribed.
If you really want to get into the whole grandiose transformers franchise, I’d definitely recommend you guys check out the 1986 transfer movie, which is based on the original transformers back in the 80s, which the movie is set between seasons 2 and 3 of the cartoon. It’s a cell shaded, hand drawn movie. If your going to continue to watch the live action movies, it will give you some (albeit very little) context as to what’s going on in the later films
In the original cartoon, the decepticons evolved from/ were made out of military equipment, and the autobots were service items/ equipment, eg trucks, cars and what not, that’s what contributed to their mentality, war like decepticons, protector like autobots
At the time, this was one of the, if not THE largest collaboration between the military and a movie production. Many of the extras in the military scenes were actual military personnel. Michael Bay said the US military essentially wanted him to make a long recruitment ad. That’s probably why they seem so competent.
1:50 You are correct. Peter Cullen is the original English dub voice of Optimus Prime. He voiced Optimus Prime in the original 1984-1986 series and its movie, but did not return to the role until this movie, after which he provided Optimus Prime's voice in pretty much all other Transformers media (with a few exceptions). Tesshou Genda is the original Japanese voice (and also returned to the role for the Japanese dub of this movie). 11:40 New meme idea: "This will affect the ozone layer." 19:32 The holographic driver here is the same one we saw in Blackout as its pilot. He is officially dubbed "Moustache Man" and is played by US Air Force Major Brian Reece, who piloted the actual MH-53 used as Blackout. 21:24 That actually wasn't supposed to happen. The dogs ripped the chains out and Shia actually outran them. 22:00 "He's the owner, isn't he?" Actually, I'm wondering how it worked, because Bumblebee just... showed up. Where's that Camaro's title/registration from? Did Bumblebee know to print something out? 26:15 Close. The C-130 "Hercules" is the unarmed cargo variant. This is an AC-130 "Spectre," which is equipped with two 25mm GAU12/U rotary cannons, a 40mm L/60 Bofors cannon, and a 105mm M102 Howitzer. 32:50 "Definitely Japanese." *Technically not wrong* 33:45 Opening up a whole can of worms with that question. At pretty much no point in the franchise's history has it ever been consistent with how small or large the Transformers are, objectively, or in relation to others (ie. Tidal Wave, a Decepticon that in Armada, the first "Cybertron Trilogy" anime, turns into an aircraft carrier tall enough to stand in the Atlantic Ocean and only be up to his knees, yet is also seen small enough to be about Megatron's size at times). Simply put... don't even attempt to think about this issue. 38:09 It was explained in a prequel novel how Bumblebee lost his voice (though that explanation was retconned by a prequel comic, and a later movie). 1:07:28 This is a great shot, but how in the world are both Sam and the Autobots visibly running without the Autobots effortlessly outpacing him? 1:07:42 This movie's budget was between $150 Million and $200 Million (and made back $710 Million). 1:08:40 Stamina-wise, I'd have been dead when those dogs got loose in the train yard. But here, I'd be done for only a few levels up those stairs. What each Transformer turns into: Blackout: Sikorsky MH-53 "Pave Low" Spec Ops CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) helicopter Bumblebee: 1976 Chevrolet Camaro (initial), 2008 Chevrolet Camaro Concept (was actually a mock-up built by Saleen on a heavily-modified 2006 Holden Monaro, the car that would be sold in the US as the 5th generation Pontiac GTO). - Also, the production crew had purchased several 1976 Camaros for the movie, for between $2,000 and $6,000 each (which coincidentally *or not* averages to $4,000, the price Sam paid for Bumblebee in this movie). Barricade: 2007 Saleen S281E (a Saleen-modified 2006 Ford Mustang) police interceptor Jazz: 2007 Pontiac Solstice Ironhide: 2007 GMC Ultimate Class IV TopKick Pickup (a special variant of the Chevrolet Kodiak) - The tow truck Mikaela shows up in at 1:05:24 is also a GMC TopKick, but a more common commercial model. Ratchet: 2007 AM General Hummer H2 Ambulance Optimus Prime: 2007 Peterbilt 379 (curiously, Takara-Tomy claims it to be a Kenworth W900, a nearly-identical truck). Megatron: Fictional Cybertronian jet Starscream: Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet Devastator (Brawl): General Dynamics M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank Bonecrusher: General Dynamics Buffalo MRAP Also, a short history lesson about the origin of the Transformers brand: In 1980, four years before the Transformers brand existed, Japanese toy company Takara made a two lines of transforming robot toys called "Diaclone" and "Micro Change" (the latter of which used molds of another Takara toy line called Choro-Q, which were sold in the US for a very short time as "Penny Racers"). Many of these toys would be repackaged as "Transformers" toys with little to no changes. For example, the very first Optimus Prime (Japanese name "Convoy") toy was actually just a re-branded Diaclone "Battle Convoy" set, with the ONLY change being the "Diaclone" logo on the trailer being changed to the Transformers design. And the original Bumblebee (Japanese name "Goldbug") toy was a yellow Micro Change Volkswagen Beetle (which itself was a transforming version of the Choro-Q/Penny Racers Volkswagen Beetle toy).
YESS.. FINALLYY YOU GUYS HERE!!! I was the one who recommended this to you until James replied, " please wait... as time goes by, we will also come to this movie franchise. " And now after a long wait, here you are~ I'M SO HAPPY!!!🤩🚗💨
I love early 2000’s movies like this because they used to focus a lot more on the plot and script with the right amount of comedic timing. This movie will always be top tier.
Trust me Micheal bay has his flaws with this franchise, especially after the 3rd movie (Dark of the moon). But watching this for the first time as a kid in '07 was so good that it had a lot of potential. That's how good this movie was
16:35 For contrast between HS romance and intense world-rnding doom, check out War Games from the 1980s with Matthew Broderick. It's not an action movie, but I think you guys would like the story. Thanks for sharing your reaction to this one. I'd forgotten how fun this original movie was. 😊
It's my understanding that the military men and woman in these movies are actual active military (the extras, not the main actors of course). They participate in their days off.
I honestly kinda forget how awesome the first transformer actually is and how well balanced movie it is, it has everything a teenager can dream of. I remember seeing this in the cinema and was really hooked. After the first sequel it became worst and worst in storytelling and movie overal. I think it destroyed its own name my pushing this franchise to its max and even went over it. I might give it a try to watch you guys watch the entire thing. 🤓
Despite the transformers series becoming REALLY BAD later on, I will always love this first movie. I don't hate Michael Bay like others do and I actually really like when he makes a fan film.
The budget for this move was supposedly 200 Million$ !!! But the exact number isnt really known to my knowledge since they didnt want to reveal the real budget.

In the lore, the reason why the first thing Megatron says is his name is because the whole time he was frozen he was conscious and angry that they were calling him NBE 1 instead of his glorious name. And he somewhat respected Sam specifically because he was the first to call him by his name.
“This is NBE-1!” “Shut up stupid ass”
“Naw that’s Megatron” “ok I’m killing you last”
Megatron really hit Sam with the "You're cool, don't come to Hoover Dam tomorrow" 😂😂
I know this is a year late, but I need to know where you got that. This is hilarious 😂😂

And the metal they are made of is of their own biology, typically called "living metal" or "cyber-matter," that allows them to shift and contort to the forms as they please.
lets not forget about the rare occasions where they can shift into humans and have seemingly flesh
@@houseofactionAh yes, the Pretenders.
Also the rare occasion where they can transform into not neccesarily just vehicles but also take on the forms of animals, insects etc.
Here’s a fun little fact. The car parked beside Bumblebee at the dealership was a yellow beetle. Bumblebee’s original alternate mode back in gen 1 was a yellow beetle as well. A nice little reference for older fans.
And a jab at VW because they didnt want to be involved with the movies
I forgot how fun the first Transformers film was! Compared to the later sequels, the cinematography is great here as the shaky cam is kept at a minimum. I also love that they got the voice actors from the 80s series, especially Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime!
I didn't think 3 was that bad actually had a pretty good ending that's where it should have ended
@@brianlinville54203 was so good dude
@brianlinville5420 I could not agree more. As a matter of fact, TF3 was supposed to be the last Bayverse Transformers movie. That’s why it was so big and epic and fantastic, because he wanted the series to go out with a bang, but Hasbro and the fans wanted more. So he basically just made the movies 4 and 5 for profit as all of his actual creativity was poured into TF3.
@@brianlinville5420 Part 3 had pretty good cinematography with the battles and perspective of people in the ground watching them.
That's the only voice actor from the 80s show. They didn't bring in more Transformers voice actors until later movies.

Such a hard line and also a great response to the “Humans bad” trope in films. Optimus is truly a goat!

1:02:03 me too.

Arrival to earth is on my score playlist. It’s beautiful and epic.

Barricade - Frenzy's partner in this movie and a Decepticon spy
Optimus Prime - Leader of the Autobots

The soft reboot that started with Bumblebee has definitely been an upswing in quality!
Exactly the first three have way better characters then 4,5 and the reboots
Same, I loved Shia Labeouf. Phenomenal actor
My son was huge Transformer fan. He cried when Optimus Prime came on the screen!!!!❤❤❤❤
Optimus prime is my favorite autobot.
@@tanyatheendergirl8987 thats part of the reboot. In the Bayverse, Megatron destroyed it.
Fun facts:
- The Cube/Allspark is the new concept of energy source for the Cybertronians in this iteration.

I’m on my 40s and still collect Transformers and when I was in the theater and got to see Optimus Prime transform I did definitely cry a little bit.

In the scene where Sam and his Dad go to the used car lot Bumblebee is parked next to and subsequently ruins a yellow Volkswagen Beetle, which is the type of car Bumblebee originally was in the animated series.
On the sponsorship thing:
The new Camaro wasn't out when this movie was being made so the one that appears in the film is actually the concept version of the car (you can tell by the side view mirrors).

I love these movies. So unappreciated, I think so.

19:32 The holographic driver here is the same one we saw in Blackout as its pilot.
32:50 "Definitely Japanese." *Technically not wrong*
33:45 Opening up a whole can of worms with that question.
What each Transformer turns into:
Blackout: Sikorsky MH-53 "Pave Low" Spec Ops CSAR (Combat Search and Rescue) helicopter
Bumblebee: 1976 Chevrolet Camaro (initial), 2008 Chevrolet Camaro Concept (was actually a mock-up built by Saleen on a heavily-modified 2006 Holden Monaro, the car that would be sold in the US as the 5th generation Pontiac GTO).
- Also, the production crew had purchased several 1976 Camaros for the movie, for between $2,000 and $6,000 each (which coincidentally *or not* averages to $4,000, the price Sam paid for Bumblebee in this movie).
Barricade: 2007 Saleen S281E (a Saleen-modified 2006 Ford Mustang) police interceptor
Jazz: 2007 Pontiac Solstice
Ironhide: 2007 GMC Ultimate Class IV TopKick Pickup (a special variant of the Chevrolet Kodiak)
- The tow truck Mikaela shows up in at 1:05:24 is also a GMC TopKick, but a more common commercial model.
Ratchet: 2007 AM General Hummer H2 Ambulance
Optimus Prime: 2007 Peterbilt 379 (curiously, Takara-Tomy claims it to be a Kenworth W900, a nearly-identical truck).
Megatron: Fictional Cybertronian jet
Starscream: Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighter jet
Devastator (Brawl): General Dynamics M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank
Bonecrusher: General Dynamics Buffalo MRAP
Also, a short history lesson about the origin of the Transformers brand: In 1980, four years before the Transformers brand existed, Japanese toy company Takara made a two lines of transforming robot toys called "Diaclone" and "Micro Change" (the latter of which used molds of another Takara toy line called Choro-Q, which were sold in the US for a very short time as "Penny Racers").
And now after a long wait, here you are~ I'M SO HAPPY!!!🤩🚗💨
Fun fact to this movie. The camero bumblebee turned into didn't come out til 2009. Basically chevy used this movie to promote the car
I love early 2000’s movies like this because they used to focus a lot more on the plot and script with the right amount of comedic timing. This movie will always be top tier.
Me too. Because, I was born in the late 90s.

Trust me Micheal bay has his flaws with this franchise, especially after the 3rd movie (Dark of the moon). But watching this for the first time as a kid in '07 was so good that it had a lot of potential. That's how good this movie was
they can turn into almost anything lol, soundwave is a take recorder in q1 and perceptor is a telescope
I was obsessed with this movie back then just because of the sound effects were so cool 😂
Wohooo I love transformers! Glad u guys are watching the movies
My fav one out of these. Seeing this in a loud theater was awesome.
YES! My favorite movie of all time. I love that you guys are watching the whole series.
Despite the transformers series becoming REALLY BAD later on, I will always love this first movie. I don't hate Michael Bay like others do and I actually really like when he makes a fan film.
*The Live Action series.*
35:04 did the audio cut out for anyone else?
"not in those heels" 😂😂😂
37:29 "My name is optimus prime"
-Optimus said calmly
The budget for this move was supposedly 200 Million$ !!!
But the exact number isnt really known to my knowledge since they didnt want to reveal the real budget.
You guys should watch the animated movie as part of this collection, I think it was 1985, or around there. That would be cool.
prepare for termination.
1:10:18 Fun fact: the man that Megatron flicks into the back of the taxi here is Michael Bay himself.
