A sexual side isn't bad, as long as it is properly managed. Most fandoms have it, evidenced by rule34 because humans ARE sexual in nature. It's not just a furry thing.

It's because 'furry' is an artistic community, and because porn is what sells.
I mean look at Voltron, the artist community is huge in that fandom. But the amount of NSFW in that fandom from literature to art is huge and far outweighs the SFW art and literature of the fandom.

This is not for me but i can see why it is enjoyable as many adults give up their child like ability to have fun out of societal expectations of what a “normal” adult is which usually means boring and not allowed to enjoy things they would find fun out of fear of judgement. In the 90s many boys were told they would need to stop playing video games as they needed to “grow up”.
I think it was C.S. Lewis said that as an adult he had learned to put away childish things... the most significant being the idea that it matters whether or not something is "childish" in the first place.

As a furry myself, this video is actually pretty accurate to how the fandom is in real life. there are people from all backgrounds with different interests in the fandom. Weather its art, fursuiting, or enjoying other content, we all come together with one interest in common. And that is the ability to create and express ourselves through the furry fandom.
But sadly not many non furries will see this because they don't watch furry videos and it won't pop up in there recommended
I can definitely see the appeal of wanting to play pretend with a character to bring out other aspects of our personality we can't otherwise explore. It's why Halloween is one of my favorite holidays!

One time I was in Orlando I saw a bunch of people dressed in these and was so freaked out, had no idea what was going on. A year later I am watching this video. Finally, mystery solved.

I’m a furry. I don’t have a fursuit and I stay away from the sexual side of the fandom. Other than that it’s a great fandom! :D as an artist in the fandom I just see so much creativity and i have fun creating characters “fursonas” like Raven the wolf and Caelum the Dutch Angel Dragon who ate my two main characters that I made.
Turning off safe search and searching up furry was a mistake....

Okay, let me clear some *other* misconceptions that wasn't mentioned in this video.
1.Furries don't *THINK* they're actual animals. They create the animal versions of themselves , who they wanted to be. Those who think themselves as animals are called "Otherkins", they act like animals and they eat dog food and such, these people are not associated with the Furry Fandom. There are few occasions when some Otherkins have never heard of Otherkins, and they think the Furry Fandom is a place for them, so they claimed themselves to be a furry ( e.g: Boomer the Dog ).
2. Furries don't act weird in their daily life. They just pretend to be silly and weird when they're making a RUclips Video or when they're at a Convention to entertain the surrounding people. Some boring guy in your office might be a funny and active furry when they get home.
And the last one, Furry Characters are *anthropomorphic* animals. They're not feral animals that eat raw flesh or hunt for food in the wild, instead, they can walk on 2 legs, they can talk and use technology products like human and they live in a human-like society. So it's kinda related to Sci-fi.
4. Furries, Bronies and Weeboos are not the same ! People keep comparing these guys together. Let me tell you, their activities are different, they follow different things. Bronies love that girly show about rainbows and ponies. Weeboos are peole who are obsessed with Japanese Popculture , they're unlike Anime fans, who just like Anime's, Furries are people who create and draw alternate versions of them selves or maybe their own fictional characters ( called OCs ).

1: otherkin [sic: confused a bit between therianthrope and otherkin, though both words are mostly used interchangeably] people exist and they are not usually furries;
2: being a furry is mostly about roleplaying and appreciating art and stuff while being otherkin or therian is about identity and learning more about yourself about being non human and stuff (i read about this stuff about a few weeks ago);
3: different fandoms are different;

Fursuits are worth thousands of dollars, you wont find too many people who would be willing to dirty a suit with any lewd activities. Its exactly like cosplay, furries want to have fun and enjoy being someone they love!

Exactly! Furries are so misunderstood! Yes the sexual side does exist, as it does for almost every fandom (see rule34) but Furries are the ones blamed for it the most! Also yes, ruining a suit with those activities would be wasteful. I appreciate you stating this! (*´꒳`*)

I am a furry, people gotta chill out with hating the furries. Why does it matter if they have fursonas, dress up in costumes, draw cartoon animals, or enjoy pornography of sexualized anthro characters. as long as they aren't hurting anybody it shouldn't matter. I think both the cutsey casual side and the sexual side should both be left alone as long as they aren't doing anything illegal or harming people.

it really depends, with most people a fursuit looks just like a mascot costume. some times seeing something moving with lifeless eyes and expression can be a lot like.. maybe a creepy animatronic? just something unnatural and unnerving. its not for everyone but we respect that

I mean, the sex thing is still a bit of a 'problem' in the sense that some loudmouths can't keep it in their pants in public at time, making more of those mainstream stories. The community needs a bit more self policing but most people don't wanna be 'mean' and say no.
With such a huge, diverse and sex-positive community, self policing is pretty difficult. Who dertermines what bad behaviour is in the first place? (as long as the actions are moraly sound)

Ehhh I feel like the unicorn guy was kinda projecting his opinions on the sexual side onto the whole fandom there. How much sexuality is involved in one's furry experience depends entirely on the individual and their friend circle. Some live for it, others avoid it entirely, most are probably somewhere in-between. You know...just like the general human population at large.
Personally I and many of my furry friends are on the "avoid it entirely" side as we believe porn of any type is harmful and just generally prefer more family-friendly content, but nonetheless to the people who bash on furries solely for the existence of porn in the fandom I have to say: you do realize porn is not exclusive to furry, right? It unfortunately exists just about everywhere, furry or not. Dumb argument is dumb.
People just love finding things to hate. It bugs me.

As someone who literally doesn’t feel sexual attraction, I get pretty sick of the “furry is a sex thing” stereotype. I’m in the fandom for the art, costumes, and community. Tho I have no problem with the adult stuff people do in privacy as that happens in every fandom at every convention. Just be happy and be you!
Yeah, the thing about furry that some people even within the fandom (but mostly outside of it) fail to internalise is that part of that openness regarding sexuality and identity also means a far greater deal of asexual representation and visibility than is common in the mainstream. Furry isn't simply about wanting to boff characters, it's about the aesthetic, the potential for creativity and self-expression, and quite often the community surrounding those things; the former can certainly be a big part of the latter for a lot of people, but having a place to just be yourself and feel wanted is just as relevant to people on the asexuality spectrum as those everywhere else in that big wide world of emotional experience.
I think that furry, while not even somewhat a sex thing, I think it is silly thing to say that furry is devoid of sex related to it, or even of the same quantity as other fandoms. The furry community has a deep history in the sexual nature of its media. For example look at the first furry room parties.
Honestly, between your video and STRANGE ÆONS' video, I kinda like the Furry community now... Like they are much MUCH less toxic than the gamer community.

In my 11years in the fandom seeing the type of shit furries post I have never came across any pedophilia on any furry site. However I have heard of only 1 specific furry in an animal abuse case and that only happened relatively recently and thats out of my entire time in the fandom. I can honestly say there are MANY MANY MORE NON-FURRY pedophiles and animal abusers than there will ever be pedos and animal abusers that happen to be furries.

Sometimes I start to think more furries watch furry documentaries than non-furries....
To be honest, most furries are underestimated, most have really good talents.
I'm not at all the kind of person to complain about "hate." I deal with it all the time in the brony community, and if you're not sensitive, it's just fun. But what I find interesting is how my friends see furries.
Bronies and furries, despite being very distinct from one another, get a lot of the same criticisms, insults, and stereotypes lobbed at them. And I understand it, so I couldn't really be mad at someone for being uncomfortable around us. But my friends know that I'm a brony, and they don't have any problem with it whatsoever. I don't even see anyone trying to hide their distaste. But whenever the topic of furries comes up, there's a sudden onslaught of insults and hatred. REAL hate, not the stuff you hear about on the news.
How can someone like and respect a brony and still blindly hate all furries?
Although I'm not a furry, I feel a lot of sympathy for their community. Don't come up to me in a fursuit, though, they unsettle me.

I was a proud Brony back in the days and I understood how weird the concept was for other people. Once I explained it, they atleast understood and didn’t care so much

There is so much to this fandom, community has been my favorite part. I was working 80hrs a week, not much social interaction, and just generally lacking a fun outlet for expression. It has opened up an awesome, friendly, and colorful world by discovering this fandom. Understand there are sexual people everywhere, there are also terrible people everywhere, they seep into everything good, from slums, to churches and beyond. Except to find good in fandoms, but also bad; beyond this hobby, we are only human

thank you for shining a positive spotlight on us. at the beginning, i wasn't too sure about this video. thank you for understanding us, and exploring what is basically a different culture.
(also, about the eye thing. there are 2 solutions for that. one, i call the gens. protogens and primagens are an original species, and their suit faces are robotic. you can change expressions with the click of a button, or a certain movement! the other solution is with 3d eyes. they are put a little bit further into the suit, and look a bit like they follow you around!)

I have Asperger's syndrome, and I've been dealing with depression and social anxiety for a long time now. I've been an outcast, lonely and a social freak. Then i found the furry fandom, which has brought me more joy than anything else in the world. I have met some of the most nicest people ever, and people have accepted me the way who i am. The furry fandom has changed me as a person for the better! I have become more confident, brave and not afraid to show off being myself!
im autistic and a furry, i have pretty intense sensory processing disorder and therefore i can be seen as weird or creepy cause im always very overwhelmed by people, sounds, and touches. when i wear my fursuit i kinda break out of my shell. i suddenly feel so confident and happy, especially around a community who also likes what i like. for me being a furry is about creativity and community, and also a coping mechanism

The bit about hugs being the default greeting is super accurate. I remember coming back after my first fur con back in 2011 and how jarring it was that there was no hugging. Everyone you met, every new face, every new friend, always hugged as part of the greeting. So being back in the every day world it was just weird that there wasn't that friendly gesture anymore.

A furry is simply defined as a fan of anthropomorphic animals. You don't really even have to have any involvement with the fandom to be one.

I’m a furry. I have ADHD and terrible social anxiety but I love to dance and have always wanted to be open and outgoing. The fandom has given me an amazing amount of confidence. You can be who you want to be without being yourself if that makes sense
I think one of the main reason certain people hate on furries (other than the taboo stuff like pedophilia and bestiality that very rarely happens) is because of people wanting to find any excuse to erase a group of people they don't like. The thing about that, however, is that furries and anthropomorphic animals in general are a part of fandom history and nerd culture, so erasing them would actually be detrimental not just to fandom, but in things like the entertainment industry and dare I say, censoring history. At least that's the way I see things.
The problem is not the hobby itself, but the fandom. Much more sexual than other fandoms, weird fucked up fetishes (rape, abortion..), 1/5 are zoophiles, HIV outbreak that got the cdc involved, nazifurs, constant, CONSTANT references to yiff.
Just draw animals and don't be a degenerate.

There is no defining atribute that determins if you are a furry. The community is open for everyone and the only one, that determins if you are a furry is you.
I find there are three types of furries:
1. The kind and accepting type
2. The joking type that knows they’re a degenerate and laughs about it
3. And then there’s ones that actually do the stuff which ain’t to neat... which are hard to find but they’re there
I absolutely love this article.. as a furry myself I agree with this. Every fandom had a dark side and most people judge fandoms becuse they dont know what it is. Like seriously I asked a hater why he hated furies and he said is was becuse it was fun FUN?!? How is bullying inocent people that have never done anything to to FUN?!?!. Anyways. I love being part of the furry fandom, everyone is soo nice (I help at conventions). I do own a suit, I can't afford it and my health won't allow it, plenty of tails though! But I love my sona's. When you help at conventions you realise yeah there is some drama, but it's actually much much smaller in person than online.
Also free hugs! Who doesn't love free sweaty slightly pongy fur hugs.
