Oh the vitriol and hate in these comments... I may not be a furry but I think they should be able to do whatever the hell they want, without being berated. Some people like watching large sweaty men touch each other for a few hours, (otherwise known as sports) some play games, some read.. None of these things affect me so why should I care? Ok I will admit I do not relate to this type of hobby/fandom but watching these folks, I mean you do you. They don't hurt other folks and they somehow comfort each other through acceptance...so I get that. In the end we all just are looking for our tribe. Just because theyre old doesnt mean that they had to like it at that age , you can find on furry youtubers saying that they found it at 12 - 15 years old and now (atleast the ones ive seen) are 24 -27 yo , and what if they continue it to their mid 30s or 40s , all i can say is dedication (of course not all of them started at that age but im just saying)

Hell yeah, everyone has a right to be happy and wear a fur suit if they want to. I personally think it's weird as fuck, but that's just an opinion and doesn't mean "be rude", "beat the shit out of them", and definitely shouldn't cause people to lose their jobs (and kids?). i kind of always thought furries have some strong links to bestiality & other gross stuff,, now i see that isn't the case. very informative. as a trans person myself and someone who is frequently interested in different fandoms, i can partly identify with feeling like an outsider/being unable to express yourself AND being super invested in fictional characters. i can't say i'd try this stuff myself but i dont see any reason for being cruel to others for doing so.

I’m not trying to be a butthole, but I am trying to have a teaching moment here, one you may not need, but alas here it is anyway: You found out what you knew about this group was grossly misrepresented in media, just as media grossly misrepresented and still does, trans people, how many other groups do you think are out there, how do you feel about drug addicts, now, how would that change if I told you there is a lot of evidence that suggests addiction is not really an addicts fault, and that it’s caused by a mental illness, which is partially genetic but largely influenced and caused by ones environment, especially in youth and adolescence, but also in adulthood (ie in Vietnam a lot of our troops became addicted to drugs like heroin but no longer did them back home, what changed? The soldiers environment changed.) I use the drug addict as an example because it usually is the one people of even disenfranchised backgrounds have a lot of hatred and resentment towards. Largely because the vast majority of addicts are misunderstood. You wouldn’t even know who they are unless they tell you they do drugs in many cases. But it’s always those that are the most entrapped and sick who get the media exposure, the most visible and eccentric, Tom the heroin addicted plumber doesn’t get a headline in the paper, Jack who lives under the bridge and commits petty theft is who gets shown, Jack sells more papers than Tom does, Tom is too boring and not scary. Tom is still negatively affected by this in many ways, if he gets caught, he gets a felony just like Jacks 2, why does Jack have 2? Oh yes because possession of many kinds of drugs alone is enough to get a felony, just having a point of heroin will land you in prison, a point is like 100 mg or something, not much, smaller than a Tylenol. I could go on, but I hope this post helps you further what you’ve probably already learned, sometimes certain things tend to be very different from that which was advertised in media. So we need to make sure we look into things further than just what we are told, and not be so quick to judge people.

Because the realistic looking ones are terrifying. They're really cool and well made, but something that actually looks like a real anthropomorphic animal and not something out of fan art is unsettling to some people. Fortunately, those are super expensive so they aren't that common.

The Sydney lolita community is composed of roughly 240 members and the primary understanding is that lolita fashion has certain criteria to keep it considered 'lolita' but it definitely has some elements that could be considered fetish if you ride with that. The common understanding though is that it is separate to the book and is not a form of age play BUT there are people who wear lolita that engage in fetishism and ageplay.
While you may wear it as part of a fetish it is not exclusively for that purpose.

That is why when discussing the Japanese fashion they use a lower case l for lolita vs. the book where you use the proper noun capital L for Lolita. The fashion itself is actually about modesty more than anything. It was originally spurred in Japanese street fashion in the late 80s and early 90s as a revolt from sexy clothing standards. There is absolutely nothing sexual about lolita HOWEVER that isn't to say that some people might engage in sexual activity wearing those clothes. But lolita is about as sexual as a pair of Nikes. Literally just clothes haha. There's also been a lot of discussion as to whether or not the name should be changed to 'Alice Kei' (Alice as in Alice in Wonderland and kei - the Japanese word for style) but it is up to the designers ultimately and they also don't want to associate lolita with cosplay because it isn't a costume but rather a fashion. BUT yeah it can get very confusing, more often than not we say that we wear a Japanese Street fashion rather than saying lolita because people will more often than not associate it with the book. Just a bit confusing.

We are misunderstood because it is just who you want to be, back when the Fandom first came out people got a bad vibe and that's what people think of us today, but it just isn't true! We are all human for gods sake! Being who you are doesn't make you different, it's just how you want to express yourself and your feelings!! It breaks my heart because after I was bullied I became a furry to cope with my anxiety and sadness, yet when I once told my classmates in year 8 they all laughed at me and I got bullied again for 3 more years and I still am.

For me, one thing I don’t like is the feeling from others, I’m straight and a Christian, I’m new to being a furry, the feeling of that some might think I’m gay when I’m not and not being sure that if being a Christian while also being a furry, not knowing if that would be a big deal to both other furries or normies, also the feeling of where the only ones who knows of me being a furry is my cousin and her husband and some people on the internet, the fear of my parents finding out because I’m not sure how they would take it

I don't know why this video is so down-voted. The only criticism I have is that it over emphasizes the furries who wear fursuits when that is a small portion of the fandom just like how people who cosplay are a small portion of any other fandom.
I also think it's funny how furries in interviews seemingly _always_ downplay the number of people who are into the erotic aspect of anthropomorphic animals. i do have a fursuit. to clear up some confusion, to even own one in the first place takes a lot of devotion.. it cost me around three/four? thousand with adjustable eyebrows and adjustable ears. no, the furry fandom is not about sex, nor is it about getting drunk if you want it to be. studies have actually shown it is hotter in a fursuit when you drink alcohol. i've never drunk alcohol or done kinky shit in a fursuit, nor do i ever plan to. also they see out of the eyes in their fursuit, both of the eyes consist of very tiny holes. they're just so tiny you can barely see the person past the eyes. the reason kids don't fursuit is because it costs, and they will grow out of it if they spend the money. i'm only fifteen, but i've stopped growing, so i got mine last month, commissioned from more fur less. some can look crappy, some can look cool, but reason being, it costs more to make a fursuit with more markings. in my opinion, i didn't care about the cost and just went with it. it can make kids happy to see an actual fucking animal giving them a hug, and certainly when you go to conventions and find people that have the same interest as you. if you think about it in a way, it's like an anime convention. anime has hentai, and some fursuiters have sex. almost 96% of the people who own a fursuit have not had sex in it. it just ruins the thing you paid thousands of dollars for with disgusting bodily fluids. some people even participate in fursuit dance offs in conventions. it can be really entertaining, and sometimes being in a fursuit lets your troubles go away for a little bit, and be this animal character. not all fursuiters think they were once an animal, nor do i. i just like seeing people's reactions and playing around. of course, with fursuiting comes trouble though, and most fursuiters have handlers [which are your friends that make sure people don't fucking attack and rip your head/paws/tail off etc..] when they venture out into the open.
people shouldn't hate on them, they spend a LOT of time making them and spending thousands of dollars on them, only to receive hate in person and online. i like watching other fursuiters' videos online mainly when my day is rough since it's amazing to see fursuiters make other people's day and just enjoy themselves.

I was into art at a young age, and found furries on DeviantArt when I joined at 13 (DA is nice because safe mode is always on strict until you turn 18), and for me, growing up with undiagnosed ADHD, making art and characters was a way I could let my creativity run wild in new ways. I'm a strictly SFW creator, nothing adult with my characters, and the community is great, I meet others and learn how they overcame what I'm going through, from ADHD, to university struggles, to not knowing how to deal with haters. There are always people bullying others, due to disability, interests, or just being different, and having people who help others learn how to deal with it, has been very important.

I've always been fascinated by furry culture. I've met a dozen or so furries at cons, and every single one was so kind, so sweet. This, to me, is no different than cosplay. In many cases it's literally cosplay.
I've always been obsessed with stuffed animals and had a strong, powerful attachment to them. The idea of getting to be a LIVING stuffed animal is so awesome to me. Wish I knew how to go about getting a fursona.

The furry community is really big, and sure there might be some terrible people in the fandom. With a large group of people, there is bound to be some bad ones, and that is with *Every* fandom out there. I myself am not one, and I don't see myself having potential to be one, but I am a huge Halo fan, delving into the lore, history, creating my own character, so I can definitely see similarities there. All fandoms have that amazing potential to allow you yourself to be immersed in it with you, or your own character.

People sexualize anything and everything they can get their hands on. People fetishize cars, weapons, animals, robots, children, even insects! i didn’t do anything wrong though, i just loved drawing and i thought it would be really cool to have my character come to life in 3D. i’ve always loved arts and crafts, but i didn’t know i’d make people see me different and hate me.

I was thinking, “Hey cool, maybe people can understand now that its kinda fun to pretend to be a character or imagine yourself in another reality as like a fox version of you with your positive traits magnified.” I could not be more wrong. Yeah I understand your point but to be honest it's kinda silly to compare religion to being a furry lmao. They are worlds apart. Religion is usually a life long choice and has to do with finding some kind of significance to why we are here existing in this world and what possibly awaits us in the next life and to other's it's a religious tradition thing passed on in the family for decades. Religion(s) have been around for as long as we can look back even the earliest civilizations believed and worshiped something. You can't compare something as Religion to being a Furry. I'm not saying being a furry is bad just use a different comparison. You can compare it to cosplaying anime characters or whatever just not Religion. 100 Years ago Furries did not even Cease to exist. So next time you try to compare the two think about that.
