In communities of color, a bedrock institution is the black church. A place where the community not only gathers for worship, but also to fellowship and meet the needs of their neighbors. Many of these institutions have grand visions for their blocks, neighborhoods, and communities, but need help in making their vision a reality. This session will dive into the planning process of the Washington Shores Vision Plan and the role the black church played in organizing members of the community, engaging in the planning process with city staff, and implementing elements of the plan to revitalize the community.
