Hey, Reason Studios, congrats on the launch 🚀. How about giving a better upgrade price for people upgrading the perpetual license for every release? The current upgrade price feels like FU to loyal users!
How about giving your employer a break and taking a pay cut?
They want you to do subscription bud so perpetual upgrade is going to be harsh.
Amen.
To all the moaners below just subscribe for $20 a month and you get the new version..You just don't miss the money going out monthly, its less than a dollar a day. The new synth is epic and the new zoom feature meaning we can upscale the entire DAW is brilliant.
Do anyone remember the reason 6 launch and they said, "name your price"? I would love to see that again. If not for Reason, then for refills and racks.
As a hobby music creator, this 199€ is way to steep, that price should min. include a midi output on the VST plugin. and a player with midi in from the VST out to place above all the reason instruments.
$252 to upgrade for UK users vs $199 for US market, the pricing is unREASONable.
Better price for a better country.
Even $199 is taking the p!ss.
Thats the tax added in the UK, buy from the states and dont pay the tax.
Yeah, I buy all my upgrades from Sweetwater. @@kypresso4328
@@kypresso4328 No its because Reason Studios dont adjust prices for currency's so UK pays £200 and US pays $200 so UK pays about £40 more.
£199 to upgrade the reason rack plugin, which i use in reaper, is a stupid joke. There doesn't seem to be any usefull updates there for me. I already have all the delays and synths i need.
Hey Reason folks. Upgrade price from 12 to 13 with 199 € is too expensive. I won't pay 40% of the full price just to get the new features. Please think about making a graduated price model depending on the version we're coming from!
They are trying to push people towards the subscription version.
@@DenwarTheoriginalor you can just wait till Black Friday and buy it for 100 or something
True
I feel like I just got a discount of 199, skipped to version 13 from 10 feels like I never had to pay for 12
oh wow that´s actually a good idea, never thought of that before
I think, the upgrade price is to high, i am staying with reason 11
Samples in the browser still keeps playing after dragging them out to sequencer😒... No option to tag by genre... nor by loops and one shot 😒. Rex player loads closed up and needs to be manually open every time😒. Mixer linking still stuck at just volume fader and pan 😒. I love how you guys do things as I stated before but it's being done in a slow dragging kind of way. FOCUS ON THE DAW!!! IMPROVE THE DAW!!! THE SDK NEEDS TO BE UPDATED!!! WHATS GOING ON WITH MULTICHANNEL VSTs? We're still not able to have one instance controlled by different midi channels. WHAT IS GOING ON??? WHY DO WE HAVE TO CLICK ON MIDI NOTES TO HAVE THE HANDLE BARS SHOW UP JUST TO ADJUST THE LENGTH AND LOOSE OUR CURRENT SELECTION? SAME WITH AUDIO AND MIDI CLIPS? HAVE IT SHOW UP WHEN HOVERING THE CURSOR PLEASE!!!
I’m passing on this. I have REs that already accomplish what you’re providing here. Can you drag and drop from browser to VST? Or no?
No
200 upgrade is insane for like 3 new things and a weird new browser we have to get used to
I agree! Seems to be a bit too price-y to buy on the first day.
They did it with 12 then promised they would add the missing stuff later. It took ages. They want you to go perpetual.
@@LunarBuzz no one likes an unfinished update. Have they not learned from EA? Finish the updates then release the product.
@@venericanone 12 was shocking for the asking price of £199 upgrade.
I downloaded Reason 13 today. opened a reason song file i was messing with. I watched the Ripley space delay video so i was excited to see how Ripley would improve my song. OMG!!! 199 for a couple of upgrades no-one ever asked for is ridiculous.
😭
frfr they need think about us 😂😂
Why did they remove the ability to create your own lists of VST and RE devices, all my folders with my favorite compressors and delays are empty. Now you have to climb and look for the device by typing its name into the search or scrolling through the list, hello to the owners of the Waves package, you will be happy
i'm so angry, guys, how work without favorite devices list...New browser only for patches, wav files...but not for RE and VST...
What? For real? I didn't even know this.
If they want me to upgrade they should pay me 199.
Is the upgrade really £199?
yep...
Cheeky... Not for me then
Sadly not 😢they are pushing for Subscription model. Screw the loyal perpetual licence owners 🎊 🎉
So in the USA it costs £157 for Reason 13. £169.08 in Europe and £199 in the UK, WHY ARE WE MUGGED OFF IN THE UK
🤣
As I've said in a previous comment, Reason 13 looks like a really solid upgrade. However, I have to agree with many comments about the pricing for the upgrade. 199$ just seems too much for an upgrade for us long time Reason users, for what is on offer. I thought at least there would be some of the existing players or synths included in the upgrade, but it looks as the same devices as in R12, except for the newly added ones. I would've thought the price a bit more fair if the existing players would be added for example (like the bass generator and chord sequencer), but they're not included. Another option would've been to have some kind of introduction upgrade price for long time users for a limited period. Looks like I'll need to wait for this upgrade. I really looked forward to this. Anyhow, I hope the launch goes well for you guys.
Objekt should have been included at the very least. That would attract so many because it's widely regarded as the best physical modelling synth that many other DAW users are lusting after and are considering paying for Reason for that singular benefit. It would also assuage those who are balking at the upgrade price from Reason 11 Suite/12 to 13. Also.... why isn't Reason Studios creating VSTs of Objekt and its siblings? After all, Europa exists as a VST.
@@TheValueOfN lol. you just don't want to pay for objekt. 🤣
@@somuchfortalent I own Objekt.
@@TheValueOfN I'm pressing X to doubt.
@@somuchfortalent I've created playlists on YT for VSTs and music software that I own so that I can access vids that I've found helpful when learning how to use them. There's one for Objekt too.
I get this upgrade for free (as I only purchased Reason 12 a couple of months ago) but honestly I don't even know if I'll bother. Don't really like the idea of yet another horizontal split in the UI. There's is no way I would pay for this upgrade
You can choose where the Arrangement/Piano Roll split sits, incl 100% like it is/was in R12 :-)
@@BenedictRoffMarsh It's more about the fact that I don't want another split, I'd rather have to switch between the sequencer and editor than have another split in the ui taking up more space
Sorry to say it's another step backward for screen reader users, in V12, the only way to access the browser is with OCR and now in V13, you need to use object nav to get out of the text box before you can use OCR to read any text.
Really hope RS take the time to add screen reader support, the technology is already here, others have done it and extending into a new market share.
Would of been nice to see some work done on Remote, perhaps in a later update?
I would hate to uninstall my r11 suite. Would you you guys please specify an announcement regarding the update that fixes the bug of not being able to have both versions on the same machine? Please. I will upgrade when that update happens. Thx.
200€ maybe it's ok if you upgrading from Reason 10. For Reason 12 users the price is absurd !
Or even lower. From Reason 1 to 12 same crazy price. But... if this upgrade is major and worth it why not. I don't seen nothing really usefull to me. Only changed number version. This should be update not upgrade
So in the USA it costs £157 for Reason 13. £169.08 in Europe and £199 in the UK, WHY ARE WE MUGGED OFF IN THE UK💰❓
That's the exchange rate. Some companies vary it based on location. Most of them don't. It's 200 for each location.
No it's 199€ in E.U
B-r-exit
249$ CAD plus tax. I feel ya. As someone who didn't click with reason, I feel ya on the price pain...
@@Citracid which is £169.98. that's just the exchange rate right now. But wherever you are they are charging 200 of that locations currency.
It's a very nice update, albeit a bit slim. More of these small time saver fixes like the new timeline zooming. That's the stuff we need: resizing clips & notes without having to select them first, scale snapping, note preview using arrow keys, modifier to stretch notes/clips with the arrow keys, slightly tinting of mixer channels for faster overview, custom color palette. These are things that adds up during a project.
Gonna allow us to use reason reward points to pay for the upgrade?
Upgraded from 12 to 13 today. I'v been a user since Reason Version 2 and still love it. The new look is awesome.
Started in 3, took a hiatus, coming back today for 13!!!
Downloads Reason 13 after a lengthy hiatus, only to discover that Objekt, Algoritm, and several other extraordinary instruments and players are paid add-ons. This revelation delivered a metaphorical blow to both my enthusiasm and my wallet. Nevertheless, my desire for these tools remains undiminished. I suppose I failed to peruse the fine print with sufficient diligence.
That is your own fault. You should've taken the R+ sub for 20% off instead.
I feel you - bring back Reason Suite!!!!
You're not missing anything with those instruments. Better off getting vsts. I don't even use reason instruments. I only use one shots.
@@Artek604 There are myriad decisions, both made and unmade, over my four decades on this plane. To dwell on regret for each would merely squander the energy that could be harnessed to further the advancement of humanity.
@@meru_lpz I concur. In hindsight, more thorough research was warranted, but it is conspicuous that the marketing materials did not prominently disclose that these remarkable new instruments are separate add-ons. I was almost certain, based on the promotional content for Reason 13, that they were included. Alas, such is life. Despite this, I still derive enjoyment from the software. However, re-enlisting for future iterations seems highly improbable.

Whats missing is a true dark mode I'm sick of being blinded by the mixer and toolbar and having my eye balls scorched when I have a late night production session, this could easily be rectified, the display bar at the top takes up around 10% of the screen this should be collapseable, we should also have the option to move the tool bar to the right. I would also pay a premium for Genre specific editions of Reason or artist editions as some one who produces DnB, Jungle and Deep Dubstep I find 95% of the stock synth patches are too bright and jolly or dated and are taking up valuable space
The mixer's brightness is definitely blindingly bright during late night sessions. It's horrible!
THAT, is a good idea. Getting a copy of a daw that is specifically designed to make producing a certain type of music, at a lower price than the full one, which removes the unnecessary stuff, is a good idea.

I just don't understand the subscription model. Let's assume that you are rich and you don't have to worry about bills at the end of the month. The hassle of managing your subscription alone is already something you don't want to deal with as a musician. Imagine picking up your guitar and realizing you have to renew your subscription to play it lol.
Most subs that are small want you to set up recurring payments, forget, then pay forever whether or not you use them.
Unless there is an added video editor, I’ll stick to reason 10 and be happy. Thanks!

Been with reason since 4, but Ableton or Logic is starting to look more viable for a main DAW every day… it’s a real shame.
SOO FAST AND PERFECT
I won't upgrade a VST for $200. Nothing significant is being added for users no longer using the DAW, the new devices for the VST can all be replaced with stock devices from other DAWs. The modulation and routing offered by using the cables is obsolete. Reason is trying to milk customers with this upgrade or by joining a subscription model. For the price, I would recommend getting any other DAW that cares for their users, even if it is as a glorified VST plugin. I think if you offered reason devices only as VST more people would use Object or Parsec. I.E. The 20% discount currently for old users is a slap in the face. Reason needs to get things together if they want to remain somewhat relevant. This video currently has only 8k views and 215 likes vs 150 dislikes from 202k subscribers is looking bad.
I have no complaints! Great upgrade, fair an square! Congrats Reason Studios on a job well done and a major step forward!
Yeah, this is all nice an well, but some of us don't work with presets all that much. So again: most of this update doesn't do much for me.

the sequencer update is long OVERDUE. &, as some reviewers have pointed out, it's still a bit too UNDERCOOKED.
taking that into account, the upgrade price is just TOO HIGH.
I have been an avid user of reason since version 2.0. I love it!! so much so that the clip-based workflow of bitwig & ableton are totally foreign to me, still to this day. but learning one of those--preferably bitwig--is also very curious & interesting to me. I think the underwhelming & downright questionable value of this $200 upgrade may just be the push I need...
lol
Exactly
Still no essential MIDI re-routing capabilities in 13. So I can't play any of my VST arps or Scaler. Which is why I picked up Ableton in the first place.
Now we get this clunkier than ever interface with some afterthought new devices. Time to cancel the old $30 a months subscription and move full time to Ableton.
Looking forward to R13.1 or later and a sale. Perhaps by then it will be worth the upgrade :)
Oh, and BTW - there's no way people use Reason with 3 device columns on a laptop. You won't see s**t.
I use one and only use other lanes when sorting out or wiring stuff.
