Just a really sad set of circumstances on all sides. 😢
The BBC documentary on Ruth was really good. Such a good story. Thanks real crime for doing a case on this one. I’m taking your recommendation and driving forward with keeping up with my true crime channel, thank you for the support.
In this day and age it takes years, even decades for a death row inmate to be executed. Not back then.
No. This is the UK. Executions occurred during the week following the third Sunday after sentencing. But the last executions were in 1964, partly because of the Ruth Ellis/Derek Bentley/Timothy Evans cases.
They should bring hanging back in both England and the US. Especially for those murders with no possibility of parole. Such a waste of space and tax money.

After being beaten and suffering a miscarriage this woman must have been mentally and emotionally broken.
Sad the power we give other's over us

I was going to say, I might be inclined towards murder too. I mean, probably not, but I understand.
Repirtefly she suffered from childhood sexual abuse and may have suffered from PTSD.
This story about Ruth Ellis fascinated me, thank you so much for posting this. I especially love the opinions of all the experts involved, they all articulated and evaluated all aspects of this case. I
am at the end of the video, but had to write this...wow.....it's truly sad how she was raised etc...and also how Blakely treated her and so many others, she wasn't an 'angel' of course but one can only be pushed so far, however there is always an out besides murder, so sad.
She had the world at her fingertips being beautiful, make no mistake she chose this life, the murder, and the consequences.
poor kids of her....never thought of them.
She actually tucked her oldest son in and kissed him goodnight before she went out. She wasn't allowed to see her youngest daughter who was living with her ex-husband.
"A girl with loose knicker elastic" lol
Alcohol, prostitution, abortions, sedatives doesn't usually end well.
The fact that they’re trying to figure out what would make a woman hunt down a man in cold blood is just Hilarious, it’s like really I can list a lot of things, shit just watch the show snapped women can be just as crazy as men if not way worse
I was always fascinated with Ruth Ellis story. I like the reenacted scenes here too! Thanks for the upload. ❤
I as a woman am so sick and tired of this double standard! No one cares about any sob story a man comes up with for why he kills anyone, yet we can sob story our way out of anything!? Please. She was guilty of pre meditated murder, period.
You forgot that he killed her child first !

I absolutely agree, if a man can be executed for killing someone so should a woman, a killer is a killer… you ALWAYS have the choices she chose poorly, and paid for her crime… I believe in the death penalty under the right circumstances, and as long as it’s proven without a doubt that the person is guilty, man or woman should receive the same punishment for the same crimes that they committed… it’s called equality, what’s good for the man is good for the woman.

Extremely sad
Fred Dinenage one of the best narrators
Yes,very good with the interview side as well letting the experts and witnesses etc talk without interrupting.
Yet another woman who got punished not so much for her crime but for her lifestyle. 🥂👠
So murder is fine as long as your sleeping around and pretty.. Got it, Great set of morals bud.
I feel bad for her children. But she cared about men more than her kids.
Why the sympathy for the killer? What about the victims? The man that died and her two kids. She made her choices.
Yes, the ridiculous man saying that she'd never hurt anyone before... she hurt her lovers and killed her kids! She was a domestic abuser, too.
@toomanymarys7355 She didn't kill her kids, they were with her family.
@amandinedupont777 Do victims of murder only matter if they suffer? Many argue that that taking of a life is an inherent act of cruelty, even if committed by the state.
@amandinedupont777 And you will find that that is an increasingly less common opinion. Especially since usually those who actually recieve the death penalty are those who have had a pretty seriously painful life and cannot afford the. Est attorneys to get them off.
Plus, there are what is known as "mitigating circumstances" like the fact that he beat her publicly, repeatedly. That she was so intoxicated that she could not drive and that someone else loaded the gun, told her how to use it while knowing she was not in her best mind, gave her the gun and then drove her to the crime and left her there.
I do not think that the hypocrisy of the state executing someone they have usually failed in multiple ways is a solution that benefits anyone. It does not deter crime, it does not lower the severity of crimes commited, it does not save money. It just makes some other people, usually those not related to the crime, feel vaguely better or justified.
He kicked her in the belly killing the unborn child
The question about the father and son and the surgeon is so old... I first heard that when I was a child in the 1970s. Are people still confused by it? Incredible!
Okay. What seems very strange to me right off the bat, is how seemingly shocked and befuddled the narrator is regarding a killing that’s clearly based on sexual jealousy! How many of those are on display? Hundreds? Thousands? Jesus! Maybe the dude’s never been spurned by someone who, allegedly, was his devoted lover. When that green monster digs in, you better be ready. It can do a number on just about anyone. Not hard to see how things can get out of control.
Well, BOTH of the characters were having sexual relations outside of the "relationship". She was essentially a prostitute; not a loving wife waiting all alone at home while hubby spends the family money on other women.
The last peacetime execution in Denmark was in 1892 (there were executions due to WWII war crimes). The reason for ending executions stemmed from discussions that started after a gruesome execution in 1882, where a drunk executioner had great difficulty hitting the neck with his ax in front of a horrified public audience.
He was a a..hole She may not have been perfect but it’s not her alone she has bad judgement.
Diminished responsability

I really don't understand the controversy. If the punishment for murder is hanging, and a person is convicted of murder, they are to be hanged. The religion, skin colour or sexual orientation of said murderer shouldn't matter, and neither should their sex. It should be completely obvious and I don't understand why it's not.
Of course it would be recognized today that she suffered from borderline personality disorder.
PTSD at the least.
intresting she took on a marilyn monroe style to get work and attention. apparently it worked as that look was in at the time.
KNOCKIN OFF THE NANNIE? WELL never heard it put like that before. This is sad a life FILLED with sin and debauchery and executed in the end.
Blakely treated Ruth so badly but murder was so wrong. She should have been given a Life Sentence as she was not in her right mind at the time of the crime.
He kicked her in the belly so she miscarried
How many commercials, are you going to have in the first 12 minutes of the video?
What about the investigation of Ruth not having the strength in her hand to actually pull the trigger? I have not heard about her case for a long time.
She was hanged on the same day at the same time I was born 20 years later. By the way, the plummy voice in the newsreel near the end is E. V. H. Emmett.
How times have changed! The confusion over the “He’s my son” statement would be inexplicable now. Right?
The boyfriend could not stay away from Ruth so he came up with a plan to have her kept away from him, nice and neat.
It is hypocritical to sentence someone to death for murder. If murder is wrong and deserves punishment then murdering that person as the punishment is some how different? I don't think so. Should a person that commits murder, in many cases, be behind bars for the rest of their life? Yes. But given that all justice systems are fallible, death is an even more inappropriate punishment. Some innocent people are found guilty and some guilty people are found innocent. People that are rightly found guilty of murder or rape should be kept off of the streets as punishment, for people's safety and to prevent further crimes. Given existing prejudices and fallible justice systems it is not the right or moral choice to decide to take someone's life. It just makes us murderers. If you adhere to the Bible, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" is very straight forward. It should be left to a higher power to judge that person ultimately. We should not take that major choice upon ourselves and call it anything other than murder for murder or for rape of whatever the conviction. Two wrongs do not make a right.
”“Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.“
Genesis 9:6 LSB
”‘If a man strikes down the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death.“
Leviticus 24:17 LSB
”‘If anyone strikes down a person, the murderer shall be put to death at the mouth of witnesses, but no person shall be put to death on the testimony of one witness. Moreover, you shall not take ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.“
Numbers 35:30-31 LSB
God’s standard is the death penalty for murder.
Not bought up. BROUGHT UP!
Such BS, if a man can be executed for killing someone so should a woman, a killer is a killer... you ALWAYS have the choice, and she chose poorly, and paid for her crime... I absolutely believe in the death penalty under the right circumstances, and as long as it's proven without a doubt that the person is guilty, man or woman should receive the same punishment for the same type of crimes that are committed, as a man is executed for murder, then so should a woman be executed for murder. It’s called equal justice.
I agree. Women always want equality right?? 🤷♀️🤦♂️
You do the CRIME LIKE A MAN, YOU PAY LIKE A MAN. JUST SAYIN!!!👀🙋♀️🍾👍👏👏👏🤔🤔🤔
Wonder about her children. Alive ?
Yes they'd be in their mid to late 60s. With the son she had a 17 and decided she didn't want to be held back so left him with her family, did the family have any choice in the matter? Maybe they had different priorities than Ruth.
Her son died of a drug overdose when he was in his 30s.
Her daughter became an author.
"Most" surgeons back in the day were indeed male. I believe that this has something to do with our thought processes depending on age.
What are you talking about?!the questions were asked recently and almost everybody assumed a male
Gahhhhh
She had a sad story, as do a lot of people , but it was still murder. I'm a bit surprised at how quickly they carried out the execution, though.
Cause she was a woman and he was rich, thats the point, the upper class wants to be supreme as always.
Them: "If she's found guilty, she will die by hanging."
Me: Okay
Them: "She shot him, there are many witnesses, evidence and even a confession, it's clear she did it."
Me: Okay
Them: "Her trial was very controversial!"
Me: Huhhhhh? How?
PS: They said "The only way out was to kill herself but as a good catholic girl, she couldn't do that." Lady, is it not your own show that earlier said she tried to kill herself but just couldn't cause the gun jammed?
Dear RC, you inspired us to open our own "true crime" channel. Thank you!
What happened to her children
Her son took his own life after visiting his mother's grave. in the 1980s. He was in his 30s. He struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues during his life. Her daughter passed away in her 50s from cancer.
"Crime of passion" is still a crime (murder) woman or man.
I can’t understand how people can have sympathy for this woman - a double standard/gender inequality is the only reason. If a man was in her position, there would have been a public outcry of anger and outrage.
David Wilson sounds like legit learned from his beast Popsicles
Can you explain what this means? It's ungrammatical.
She was prosecuted for her crime, and put to death. What's the big deal? I had heard the story of the boy in the car accident. I also had the same reaction, and didn't think the surgeon was anything else but a man. I'm 65 and grew up in a time when it was uncommon for women to be surgeons.
'A good Catholic girl...', who then killed someone else. Okay...
Fitting for that religion with its long history of dirty hands.
I knew the surgeon was a woman as soon as I heard the part about the father dying in the crash. Normally you have a mother and father. If your father dies in an accident then what remains is your mother.... it's logical.
Usually, actors who recreate people on this show resemble the subject. In this case, the woman playing Ruth Ellis did not have her signature pale blonde hair. It was distracting!
But why wouldnt a doctor operate his own child?
....yeah.....exactly
Conflict of interest. You wouldn't be at your best when you operate someone who you love.
Danm Ruth, danm Ruth 🤦🏾♂️
damn
I am baffled by their in-the-street interviews! In the late 1980s, in the United States, *everyone* at my university had heard that "conundrum" as a child. It didn't give us pause for a second. In fact, we would have answered with "The surgeon is his mother" with the tone of "How can you ask me that tired old thing?" And anyone in a post-industrial country in the twenty-first century is stumped by it? Even the women? It looks to me like women''s equality has completely backtracked in my lifetime. And while I don't agree with executing anybody, I think Ellis was absolutely guilty and should've spent the rest of her life in prison. She was dangerous, and if she were a male stalker today, she would have gotten at least life with parole (although it should be without it).
What rock did you overturn to find that old slag Pip?
No one mention how could the public took her side when she killed him in front of all those people. Regardless the example the criminologists stated. I'm assuming they must be blind then to take her side.
I really assumed the surgeon was a man and the child had been kidnapped and the man who died was just assumed to be the father. I can't believe how stupid I was. I'm all for empowering women, and I'm bvery surprised by my unknown bias.
At least the reenactment actress didn't have the camel nose of Ruth.
