Resin For Beginners -How To Make A Freeform Bowl
Warning: Important Health and Safety Notice:
Resin is an industrial chemical and as such should always be treated with respect and the manufacturers safety advice taken. Here is a video I have made on how I keep myself safe: • Stop Making Yourself I... - Хобби
It did turn out very pretty! I chuckled when you made the"flat bottom" joke; I was thinking the same thing! I hope you are well and happy!😂
Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vane or red, orange green, blue, indigo violet ! Love the bowl !
So pretty! After watching several of your vids, I bought micro-brushes and a deburring tool, and they have both made things much easier for me! Another thing to thank you for. THANK YOU!
Your friend is going to love that!
Thank you, Dr. Mc.
This resin is exceptionally cool 😇💙😎
Lovely! I’m going to try to make a lampshade for a hanging light 💕🌼
Awesome bowl steve McDonald
I love my deburring tool!
I LOVE this bowl! I didn’t think I’d like it be as impressed as I am. Thank you!
Gorgeous absolutely gorgeous 😍 ❤ 💛🧡💙💚💜😎😍
just love it x
Gorgeous 😍
For someone who is colorblind, you are an amazing artist!! 😍
Steve I LOVE, LOVE LOVE , this video. Making freeform bowls and Sculpture's are my favorites. I'm not sure how you were able to touch the resin and form it so beautifully? Every time I have made one the resin is sticky or if I wait too long it won't bend for me. Is the secret in the resin itself? I live your bowl, it's gorgeous! I hope your friend enjoys it
I have seen many artists use a heat gun to warm the spot they want to alter. It can be made softer temporarily.
Steve, I probably told you this before, but Stone Coat Countertops sell several types of resin. I love the Art Coat Resin. It is thicker to Hold the shape better. Extremely high in UV protection, heat resistant, scratch resistant and more. I warm it if I want it thinner, but for this its perfect. Stone Coat also makes deep pour resins for art, pyramids, and river tables etc. They got their start in countertops, making old kitchens look new with the look like Stone, geode etc. I love their products. The Craft Coat is for jewelry or under layers for things then top with Art Coat. They also have a wonderful product called UTC, (Ultimate Top Coat.) It comes in Matt and Glossy. You roll a thin layer on and it is scratch proof, burn proof, food grade, even more UV resistance, and much more. It makes a table top or counter family proof and wear resistant for decades. I love their products, along with their pastes, glitters, angel dust, spray paints, everything ro remodel your kitchen with resin and down to all things art. Check them out on RUclips. Watch Mike and his brother Matt transform kitchens, bathrooms, showers, table tops, surfboards, and more. Check out Rhonda Drakulas with RK3 do same, plus charcuterie boards, and more. Marcy from Mixed Media Girl does all things art like you, and uses Stone Coat products with her company's name on them. No VOC's or odors, long working time, about 45 to 60 minutes or more depending on the product. One spray paint for the marbled effect looks like silly string, you would giggle using it. Give the Art Coat a try!! It may keep the alcohol inks colorful longer!
Hey Steve so excited everytime u upload I can't wait for the next video lol
Lol You make art so much fun! You're personality is just amazing! Love it! Keep that part about you as we learn from you teaching us art! We all need a laugh sometimes! You're brilliant, friend!

Thank you Steve! I love using my de- burring tool , I find it very therapeutic. Love the bowl!😍👍😁
Will defendly try this
I love this!!
It is beautiful 🤩
That bowl is amazing! I have been wanting to make bowls, but wasn't sure how. I'm so glad I found this! I have a deburring tool also. I have a little bit of trouble controlling it sometimes, though. I end up going a bit too deep in spots. I guess it just takes some practice.
Beautiful
Looks great.
Im in Johannesburg
South Africa
If you add a small stripe of clear between each color and then wiggle the edge where the color and clear meet with a skewer you get a very subtle blend. Pretty done in concentric circles inside circles with clear in between colors. I also like defined edges. I found a small child’s hula hoop and also a 24 inch brass ring used for macrame under your bottom plastic or silicone sheet will give round edges. Narrow rubber tubing can be used for a more free form shape. Also, I found some small silicone beakers on Amazon that allow for a more controlled pour. Not as good for large amounts (they get a little wobbly) but for small areas where you want to fill a shape or outline a color they’re great. The thrift store is a great place to find new and different shapes to form over. I loved the video and am dying to try the epoxy but I live in the US. Please let all of us know when it comes to a new area. You videos are so much fun. They always make me drop what I’m doing and get into the studio. I’m looking forward to the next one.
Love it!!!!!
I love these vases. I'm definitely going to try this.
"Not that I want a flat bottom, but I do like a flat bottom on a bowl"

That’s beautiful 😍
cool! i never thought about doing a bowl like this my self ,, i did make cement bowls w/cloths dipped in cement then draped over a mold though,, thank you for the tips
Beautiful! I'll have to give that a try!
Beautiful.
amazingly amazing. i need to make one~ i am new with resin. never used colors.
Exactly what kind of plastic sheeting is that? Is it the same plastic they make clear shower curtains from?
Can out great. I have a challenge for you can you try the mould that is an egg in two pieces and they fit together so you can put something inside it. ❤️
🎉Quite Lovely 😍
nice!
I just unmolded some little dinosaurs made in a fondant mold. But they turned out with a very dull finish. I’m going to try painting on some UV resin to see if I can make them shine a bit.
Nice one cobber:)
Hi what is the plastic that you use to make your bowls? I can’t find the link? This is beautiful I wanna try to make one
It would look cool with some dimonds around the bottom
You need to bring the little piggy back!! We miss the little piggy that would pop in every now and then.
The sound that the plastic made when you pulled it out made my skin crawl and my ears cry. Wow, cool. What would you put in that?
Some people like that sound weirdly enough. And if yours makes that sound you can know its normal and that you're not breaking anything.
With the deburring tool you can't remove the full thickness of the resin. It can only remove the thin over-poured edges. Atleast thats what works best for me.
Nice video, how big is the circle please, what do you recommend :)
Could you make a barrier with hot glue instead of using the sticks?
I am new to artistic endeavors. I made a resin pour with a photo in a mold. Made the mistake of sanding a portion of the finished product. Thinking no problem, I’ll just do a light sand to insure a fresh resin pour will adhere. However, the already cured product dried or cured with a slight bow so that it is no longer level. My question is how to reapply fresh resin to the already cured portion? Can I brush the new resin topping? Thanks for your help.
🎉
Hi 👋 Steve is this Resin suitable for making key-rings, am a newbie and this will be my first project xx
Le plastique que vous utilisez est celui avec lequel nous couvrons les livres ?
Is it possible to make a bowl out of a rectangle tray mold?
PLEASE let me know when that resin is available!!!!
HAVE YOU TRIED TO DO A CIRCULAR DRAG AFTER VERTICAL DRAG? IT IS VERY PRETTY OR DROPLETS OF ALCOHOL VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL PATTERN.
Can one use a nail file?
Hi Steve
Your links for "Torch" are for a blow torch, not a UV torch. A slip up, I think?
Do you have links for the UV torch you use, please? (I'm in the UK, but checked (randomly) the Canadian link too, as Amazon links can easily be changed for a different country, just by changing the country-specific part of the URL.)
No, he meant to link a fire torch.
@@mairem.9300 Why? A UV torch is used in the video, but not a blow torch
@@JulieWills Yes, he used a UV torch for the UV resin.....but he ALSO used a FIRE torch to get the bubbles out of the resin, THAT's what he linked to
Gob.smackingly.beautiful! 🤩I learn so much from you, thank you thank you thank you!!!!! ❤
Gorgeous 😍
Beautiful
The colours are just gorgeous 😍 love this bowl.
