Very thoughtful comments which I think could be further improved by a little more in depth studies of the different strata of the majority of the current Hong Kong Chinese population, thanks.

Too many comments left in the Chinese version of the video that I think I should leave a little comment here, as from a Hong Konger's perspective, in this English version of your very good account of the HK society:
Back 5 years before, people here really didn't foresee nor think of the consequences of voicing their demands because all had happened in HK really shocked the HK people. Those happened were not what HK people got used to, and those happened hit the bottom line of people's moral system, their belief, and their value system. So in the end, petitions, rallies, and "rebellions" were what people here can do.
It may be unwise in these "rebellion" acts, because people in HK didn't have the intelligence as many of the mainlanders had back then. But people in HK did speak their minds which I can seldom see in any Chinese society, out of love to the place here we call Hong Kong.
And this attribute of the Hong Kong people exactly showed an opposite to your last few comments about Chinese people - "a bit of disregard for one's own rights".
(Why people in HK are willing to spend their life time in owning a pigeon cage in HK is another big story behind).
Last but not the least, thank you indeed for your video which is very true and reflects what HK is. Please carry on and I found myself in all your videos.
    jC, a Hong Konger

Yeah, I would travel through China and would occasional hear Canto-pop being played. I would ask the people if they understand BaWah (Cantonese) and they would not have a clue.
Hong Kong used to be this incredible place of massive cultural influence and mega riches, but that's definitely not the case anymore. There is still some uniqueness in its identity but it's not as impressive relative to some of the Tier 1 Chinese cities anymore. The eye-watering prices, stagnated tech and services, claustrophobic living condition really makes Hong Kong appeal less and less. :D
Honestly, the truth about Hong Kong is that they are VERY fickle and would just lean towards the brightest lights and best standards of living. Different generations will make up their own minds who they like and associate themselves with. The Boomers or older hated the Japan, then Gen X and Millennials did the exact opposite because Japan had great tech and entertainment at the time. Those who have lived through the British Colonial rules sometimes resent them because some have witnessed injustice in their work. Those who grew up in the 2000s would hate mainland because of the negatives and inconvenience brought about by the initial surge mainland tourists and ended up romanticising the British even though they have had no real experience with them.
The next generation of HKers will love China. They will be brought up crossing the border to visit clean and efficient cities, massive and bright theme parks. They will have great food, see fun things, incredible toys and tech. They would realise that we are all the same and that we all have the potential to do well. That there is not a one single superior, dominating ideology or method of governance. At least that's what I hope for in the future.

Excellent video. This makes me sad that I never got the chance to visit HK when I had the opportunity to 😭
