so is it too expensive to buy an apartment here? don't a bunch of people still live in crammed urban villages? who wouldn't want to move here instead ? does the government provide subsidies for people to move to such places ? tax breaks for businesses?
Many countries in the world would have been very glad to have a newly built city like Xiong'an, with all its urban planning, technology and proximity to Beijing and Tianjin. Yet, the creator of this video is showing mostly skeptical and negative criticism about this place, which is unfortunate. I would be very glad to live in such a city.

It’s supposed to be a model city for ppl all over China to come and admire, not sure what the current policy is
China thinks long term while the America can only think of instant gratification, so they adhere to Capitalism, which is unsustainable. Even now, Europe is mirroring Chinese Socialism, the European parties are shifting to being Socially Conservative, and Economically Socialist. LGBT/Woke and Capitalism is losing popularity in Europe.

not really, it is suppose to be the administration center where the government setup their department. however the capital remains beijing. basically it is the opposite of what most country do. country usually move the capital away from the economic center to reduce the influence of powerbroker on the government, australia(canberra), US(washingston DC), Brazil (Brazilia) etc. but china doesn't want to move out of the imperial axis for historical reason so someone came up with the idea of pushing all the state enterprise and department out of beijing instead...

Only reason I want to go to Chengdu is due to the City was the Capital of Liu Bei's Shu Han from Three Kingdom, as I am a fan of that novel. There is still alot of historical places that was related of those heroes that lived there. Like those trees that Zhang Fei planted.

I think your comments speak more broadly to a change in pace across China with the slowing of economy and maturing of the aspirations of most middle class people to take more simple leisure and be more reflective on society than in the past few decades. And the reason the city is trending in public consciousness is because that is its natural role among Chinese cities

Everything you see here is fake. The imperial city of Datong, including the palaces, walls, temples and hutongs were completely demolished in the 1950s and 60s. All the buildings shown in this video are hollow shells built in modern concrete and breezeblock construction over the last 15 years. The city wall is not guarding anything, it has no function - it's just a Disney version of an ancient city in which nobody lives. The case of Datong is infamous and taught in heritage managemenet and conservations courses all over the world in how NOT to do heritage conservation. It is literally the text-book example of worst-practice engagement

Liang Sicheng and his wife, who you briefly mention in your video, would be rotating in their graves if they knew what had been done to Datong and its heritage! Over 100.000 households had to be destroyed to build this micky-mouse 'imperial city', and all it does it try to erase the injury of the cultural revolution, hyper-development and an utterly failed conservation policy in the dumbest and most supperficial way possible. It serves no purpose other than historically revisionist propaganda. It's literally taught in universities the all over the world as the absolute worst possible approach to heritage conservation/development. What was done to Datong is like taking a painting by van Gogh, intenationally burning it, then having a four-year-old repaint it from memory in crayons, and then selling it like its the original. It's a joke
