I think your comments speak more broadly to a change in pace across China with the slowing of economy and maturing of the aspirations of most middle class people to take more simple leisure and be more reflective on society than in the past few decades. Everything you see here is fake. The imperial city of Datong, including the palaces, walls, temples and hutongs were completely demolished in the 1950s and 60s. All the buildings shown in this video are hollow shells built in modern concrete and breezeblock construction over the last 15 years. The city wall is not guarding anything, it has no function - it's just a Disney version of an ancient city in which nobody lives. The case of Datong is infamous and taught in heritage managemenet and conservations courses all over the world in how NOT to do heritage conservation. It is literally the text-book example of worst-practice engagement

This building is NOT the tallest in China. The Ping An Finance Centre is taller by 9 feet and the Shanghai Tower is 116 ft taller. The Shanghai Tower is China’s only mega tall building and stands 2,073 ft tall.

As a Viet, if you're interested in colonial architechture, then unfortunately I think the former French Indochina countries, which Vietnam was a part of, have the LEAST of it in South East Asia. Most of the structures have been destroyed either by the warS or the ensuing political climate

When I was there I felt like the layout was similar to a western city.

I went from Xi'An to Chengdu and it was pretty mind-blowing. It was like time travelling from the ancient past to a bright and advanced future.
