I remember the first time I fought this boss. When I heard Peppy say “Is that the General’s FLASGSHIP?!” followed by Pepper's "Is that you Fox? Too late...the aparoids" I was shocked. As a child, I had played through Star Fox 64. Then I fought my way through Corneria in Assault. And now I saw the man who was with me since 1997 under enemy control. And I was going to have to fight him. In real life I was like, “Oh no. No! It can’t be!! Not Him!” One of the few times my reaction matched that of the character I was play as.
Gamerdude854 Agreed, meanwhile every other game is literally the exact same as 64. (excluding Adventures, which wasn't even a Star Fox game to begin with)
+Get Rekt Scrub Zero took several giant leaps backwards and because of that it's disappointing. There's no longer proper conversations and character dynamic like in Assault and it's back to the awkward one-liners. If only Assault would have balanced Arwing-Land Battle better and had brancing paths, it could have been the best game in the series.
Unpopular opinion: Peppy should've died in the last mission. I love Peppy, but his death would've made it the whole story feel more dangerous and real.
Star Fox Assault is what it is precisely because it wasn't made by Nintendo, but by Namco. And I mean it in a good way. I loved that this game was not exactly the same as 64.
Man as someone who started with 64 loooong ago and played this after around 12yrs old nobody could ever understand anymore, this moment in gaming history is too niche and too old for it to matter to anyone now
I loved this battle, it stood out as the more emotional moment in the game. honestly, i liked the plot of this game, not the fact that you were fighting a collective hive mind of machines, just the way the story was executed. these things were mindless, unrelenting, uncaring monsters, they would never relent, they would never cease. the way they were presented, the unrelenting nature of their tireless advance. it made them super intimidating. general pepper was proof of how far they could go.
@@stardragon01 I have the game and I thought it was pretty good the missions and everything but I don't remember all the endings but I will say some of them might have been better than others however I find that opinion to be subjective though
I like to imagine he was trying to help defend the city as the attack began but eventually both he and the rest of his forces were corrupted and taken over, they didn’t even stand a chance. The city was lost as soon as the aparoids entered the atmosphere
It was the time where the fanbase wanted Star Fox 64 all over again. Fans were already torn up by Adventures. Then they got Star Fox 64 again...and then again (with Zero), now they don’t hate this game anymore.
The foot levels were a meh for me, they wasn't bad but I enjoyed more when I was on yhe arwing kicking ass. I just wished the arwing to felt faster in all range mode. And the multiplayer wad awesome
I liked the concept of the on-foot levels, they were good, but the controls... they were messy for me. I just want the controls for the 3rd person on-foot shooter sections to be fixed, that`s it. Otherwise great game
This has to be the most emotional and epic fight in the series, and it could have been SO much more epic if we had more of a relationship between at least fox and/or peppy and pepper, but the linear nature of these games, even this one, unfortunately prevent that. Command may have had some fights like that, but I dont remember any, and I actually played that one too.
This fight is even crazier on gold difficulty, you barely get enough time to interrupt his attacks, he does massive damage, and he has an extra attack at the end where he opens an Aparoid portal to shoot missiles at you.
I think they wanted you to be so invested in pepper you could only bring yourself to shoot when he jumps out at you but most of us just shot the whole time
Definitely the hardest boss in Assault. Fox aims so slowly when hitching a ride on Falco's Arwing and Wolf's Wolfen. Pepper is a very erratic boss as well. That doesn't pair good either. And to top the difficulty sundae, there's no health recoveries. If you start the fight in the red, McCloud and O'Donnell are toast. That's probably further reasons why the Aparoids infected General Pepper: make a near impossible boss fight. *STINKING BUGS!*
Idk man adventures was one hell of a game for me, and whenever i think of general pepper hes the one from adventures with his transmission intro sound and mimicking tony the tiger
I actually got really emotional the first time I did this fight... :'O I grew up with the General. "We Need Your Help Starfox!" Has been planted in my head since like 1997
Its unfortunate that it doesnt brake well, thats my only complaint. That and the fact i couldnt stand on the wing fox is standing on in multiplayer lol
general pepper: i need your help starfox. you must destroy me! fox: okay, if that's the only way... i'm sorry general *gets weapon ready* wolf: can't let you do that starfox!
Actually, StarFox were mercenaries, Peppper wasn't their general, he just payed them. At the end of StarFox64 he ask Fox to join the army, but he says no. And after that, you get a paper in which the general "pays" you according to the enemy units destroyed. So, they weren't part of the army, they weren't ordered by Pepper and they didn't do that for free.
When I began to watch the video I was saying to myself that Nintendo tried to envoke emotion with this game and when I first played it, it wasn't all that emotional to me. But now that I'm older and heard more of General Pepper's speech, It was pretty emotional and moving. Despite what most people say about Nintendo games calling them "Kiddy" they can do one thing pretty good and thats envoke emotion.
I always thought this was an awesome plot twist. In every other your the one always taking missions from General Pepper. And now you must face him in combat.
Seeing some of the stuff in the game, god its so dark, the Aparoids taking over many people's bodys, if it wasn't stopped, the Lylat System would be doomed. Damn Nintendo threw in a lot of dark plot ideas!
Even as a StarFox fan, I had huge problems finishing this game in Hard Mode. The first time I was like "Heh, finished all the other SF games, can't be that hard.". First level => Game Over. The first time I fought against this Boss in Hard Mode, it was so difficult I lost like 4 or 5 lives at a minimum (not counting the ones I lost in the level itself), it was only the second (and last) time they put you on rails like this. To repel his ship, you gotta attack, one second late you get hit.
they made wolf badass in this game. in 64 he sounded british aha. but it would be cool if they made a starfox game where you have both story lines like you can play the story of fox and or star wolf.
I was a bit sad about this but always hoped that peppy saved him from dieing after the fight & they found a way to kill the Apariod infection. I still hope so.
Pepper: shoot me! dont let me transform! Me: Why not? Its rlly fun u turn into something and then turn back! starscream does it! Pepper: I wasnt talking about becoming a transformer u moron! Me: Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! Cause u would have to be a robot then
