The easiest compilation video to make is one of Michael Jordan. All you need to do is take 5 games from his career and you'll have enough material for an entire news segment.
The most difficult compilation video to make is one of Michael Jordan. If you take any 5 games from his career, you'll have so much material you won't know what to cut out.
Therein lied the challenge of this edit for me. With the tons of MJ mixes out there, I wanted to do something more complete. I also wanted to focus on the aesthetics of his abilities. That led me to a path of picking not only classic clips, but rare ones and personal favorites. For those who didn't grow up in the 80s before MJ became a champion, they can never know the full experience of what watching Jordan was like. Before all the awards, the statistics, the monster games, the titles and the global appeal, MJ was about his incredible moves. In the playground, people stuck their tongues out and tried to imitate his drives to the basket. Later on, people imitated his fadeaway. But his athletic moves were singular and his alone - awesome in aesthetics, control, spontaneity, improvisation, instinct and athleticism.
MJ revolutionized the game with his individual exploits and we see bits and pieces of this in everyone today. From Kobe studying his shooting mechanics to create shots to Wade attacking the basket to Lebron transferring his power to his teammates to Iverson in his isolations to Carter in his dunking, MJ continues to be, as Drexler said, "The Pro's Pro".
But obviously, there will always be only one MJ. This video captures the essence of MJ stripped of everything but his pure, remarkable talents as completely as possible in 10 minutes. A truly complete edit would take a video several days long - even weeks - but that would be impossible anyway.
By blurring the line between sport and art, MJ became the greatest athletic artist we will ever know. "Black Cat" was his nickname to his friends for his cat-like reflexes and grace and panther-like power and killer instinct. This is my ultimate tribute, with excellence, in return for his excellence to the game of basketball.

The NBA owes it to itself and it's fans to do the following:
1.Dig up all these clips in their original film setting.
2.Put them together in this exact sequence (but now remastered so it looks like it did when the game was broadcast)
3.Use the same soundtrack
4.Release on blu-ray
5.Send hoopsenyclopedia a huge check.
The best thing about hoops' channel is the ORIGINAL footage. Most MJ clips are the same one's used over and over. Not here. Tons of stuff you won't see anywhere else.
Bravo
Absolutely.
indeed.
What is also amazing is these types of moves were made each and every night he played. There wasn't just one moment every week or every 3 games. These were done every night over a long span of his career before his second retirement. I saw him play in 1986 and it was indescribable. No one compared but he constantly worked to get the ball and just never missed. I was an instant fan and never lost faith in his abilities. To me the greatest.
Well said
He had so many signature moves. The reverse lay up, the fadeaway, the leaning tomahawk slam, the hanging double clutch shot etc..
Man, Mike was just the greatest most exciting player to watch EVER!!!
First video I favorited on youtube (like 8 years ago!).
The dunk at 5:54 is ridiculous, I remember that game it was a tight hard fought game back and forth and what made the dunl so amazing is that it was late in the 4th quarter with the score very close. The energy to still elevate that high late in the game is a very rare and spectacular ability by a superior athlete.
That dunk looks crazy!
When the Earth explodes in 2 billion years and aliens discover our debri, I hope that this video remains.
Another gold plate into space with this video on it.
Don't you people get it, it's not the championships that makes him the greatest, It's the fact that he was toying with the NBA in a level never seen before or after, dominant and yet gracefuly.
Exactly. Watching this year's finals only confirms the fact that no one since or before should ever be mentioned in the same sentence as him.
cavaleer are you not a LeBron fan?
Man these people don't get anything until you show them. To add on the context of your comment, I want to say Michael had all the same pressures to succeed if not more "elephant in the room situations from the beginning of his draft and still dominated
This video should be a national treasure
how this doesn't have millions of hits in the past 8 years is beyond me #michaeljordan #nba #basketball #goat
Still, the greatest video on youtube after all this time!
Still the greatest player in history after all this time!
I grew up watching mike at unc with my father , we really thought he would be this good. I think of dad every time I see highlights, just gives me chills. rip dad, I miss you
3:08 3:15 3:22... OMG... I could go on and on but the whole video is highlights that just blow your mind... Truely the GOAT... forget all the stats and accolades, just look at how beautiful it is to watch him... only real BBall heads will understand what I mean. Real basketball heads don't need stats, the eye test proves everything. Just unreal...
He flies through the air with the greatest of ease...
Watched this many many years ago. Still one of the best mixes I've ever seen
I still remember returning to Chicago for a family wedding and showing my cousin this video.
We both agreed how much we missed watching Jordan play and talked about how he was born to play basketball.
Great memories/moments growing up in Chicago during the Jordan era. Wouldn't trade it in for anything in the world.
🏀
I remember the first game I attended where Jordan was playing. It was 90 or 91 and they were playing against Barkley's Sixers at the Spectrum. I sat 7 rows behind the Bulls bench. I remember thinking that even if you didn't know anything about basketball and no offense to Sir Charles, it would take you 2 seconds to recognize 23 as the best player on the floor by far. There is no word to describe the feeling from the crowd when he had the ball - electric is close. Like a collective gasp.
I think your compilation vids are still far and away the best Jordan videos out there, if only for the fact there's tons of footage not limited to the same old signature highlights. There's so much stuff I've seen here that I hadn't seen before or since. Then, the music just takes it up another level. I think some of the coolest clips are when you see Jordan making nearly identical moves seasons apart. It's sort of hard to capture the fluidity of his game, but it just clicks here. This and part II are just awesome! GOAT highlight vids for the GOAT.
For the life of me I cannot understand how people have the audacity to compare Kobe and Lebron to MJ....
It's the level of charismatic efficiency they elevated their game to, MJ just played with a pioneer like style that contributed to era he played in. IF you ask me who the best player was from the organized games I've seen #s 1..2 &3 it goes Black Cat, Mr. Mamba, had to edit take Sir James outta there whos the real #3 ?? Make it valid ✅
5 chips is pretty damn close
@@smiley7683 not close enough
Kobe was amazing also. Lebron is the one I don’t get.
It really makes no sense. Neither kobe nor lebron is close to mj. He has everything. All the athleticism. All the skill. All the intangibles. Lebron has athleticism. But his skill and intangibles isn't really close to mj. Kobe skill and intangibles is similar to mj (but not on par), but mj athleticism is far beyond kobe. And mj athleticism is also beyond lebron.
The only player that I really have on mj level, based on my eye test and understanding of the game is Larry bird. Although his athleticism is no where near mj, he was still 6'10. But bird was a sniper assassin shooter. And in terms of intangibles, he may have the greatest intangibles for the game of all time. And then the only person who I would be willing to concede to as being a better shooter than bird is steph curry... and u can call me crazy but I still would make an argument for bird.
My stepson asked me what the difference is in Lebron and Jordan since I grew up watching Jordan. This video sums it up. Jordan played with more finesse. The basketball court was his canvas and he painted the most beautiful picture!
Still one of the best videos on RUclips
ah man, those dunks are great but those lay ups are just beautiful especially in slow motion
You have no idea how important this video was for me. This along with guys like Bruce Blitz meant a lot! Truly inspirational for me thank you!
No doubt, no debate, greatest basketball player of all time. He put the sport of Basketball and NBA on the map and brought so many fans and players, revolutionizing the game in the years that came after his departure.
He didn't put it on the map. It was already a sport of legends. He elevated it to a level beyond anything ever seen, before or since. Lebron is a phenomenal player yet still nowhere near Jordan.
+cavaleer because Jordan was playing streetball while everyone else were sort of in an NBA stupor. Trying to appear as pro ballers instead of just relaxing and playing the game the way they naturally knew how. Many were just over coached into non working systems while Jordan was allowed to do his thing and make it appear as if coaches were in control. now when the freestyle coaching style of Phil Jackson, along with better role players, meshed with Jordans' streetball style, they became unbeatable and won chips!!!
False. NBAs global popularity exploded in the early 90s. No one in the mid 1980s cared about basketball in Europe or Asia outside of maybe Yugoslavia or Greece. By 1995 it was one of the 'coolest' sports in the world and participation rates went through the roof. That was primarily due to Jordans rise to superstardom, propelled by a Nike marketing machine too. Bird, Magic and Kareem were unknowns outside of the US in the 1980s.
Patrick Harrison Straigth facts. I learned about Jordan and the NBA when I was 11 in 91 while I was commuting between my house and the playground playing soccer on the streets of Arnhem, The Netherlands. I picked up a basketball because of the fact that older guys were robbing space of our playgound to play ball. It was booming! 🏀
MJ's quote: "I never cared for 360s since those are dunks everyone else can do. I like being creative with the ball, using one hand etc. The only 360 worth doing is one from the free throw line. That would be the perfect dunk."
Zach Lavine can do that
I have a video where Michael Jordan did a 360 early in his career. He Didn’t care much for it.
Like a lot of people in the comment section this was one of the first highlight tapes on RUclips I came across and watched over and over and over again.
Coming back to it now I'm interested in how you came about this song and what gave you the idea to use it? I feel like this song really captures MJs inner competitive state of the never ending constant chase of perfection he was after, beautiful but melancholy (that's enough waxing poetic)
But yeah, I'll always remember this beat over this mix as much as MJs moves here, so thank you for creating this reel man.
Michael "AIR" Jordan was the real deal. The pioneer assasin of the NBA. Russell, Magic and Bird had it too, but none could compete with MJ's legendary athletic ability and more importantly, HIS BODY CONTROL!!! He was so sick once contact was initiated... Able to finish at the hoop unlike any other. He really made the NBA worth watching. Missing a Bulls game in the early 90's was unheard of! He made those playoff games THE most important thing going on at that time. Man, I miss you Mike..
the greatest mix i seen the music fits so perfect with it makes you appreciate MJ even more man i wish he was 21 playin right now...
best player of all time
I come here to relax every year or so. 🐐👑 The body count 💪
I was here 10 years ago
And now I am still here
Greetings
Thanks for keeping this up. I've been watching this for over a decade 🙌🏻
Jordan had the best combination of power and grace. That’s why he is the GOAT. It’s not about rings; it’s about who did I want to spend hours watching.
Jordan >>>> Everybody else
MJ is simply amazing. Some of the things he did is not even seen today. Everyone should watch these to see just why everyone calls him the GOAT. Thanks for all of the great videos. Love the artistry series
Btw great music choices for all of them. They are different but fit perfectly :D
***** Exactly
No human being moves like Michael Jordan I swear. It really is poetry in motion
8:13-17 One of the Underrated Greatest Dunks Ever! Took the ball Up, back to his feet and Jams it..Get out of here Lebron, Air Jordan!
That's why dunk contests suck now days imo. All props and gimmicks. In the end, the actual dunk isn't that great.
In today's over commercialized NBA with so much hype, they show one big dunk with barely any contact by LBJ and sensationalize it with "Dunk of the Year" honors. Jordan and "Dunks of the Year" multiple times each game and most were much greater than anything LBJ did. LBJ has power but he doesn't have the huge hands that allowed Jordan to dunk in such unique ways.
There's only one GOAT and his name is Michael Jeffrey Jordan!
He's just incredible.
No one will ever touch his abilities. Creativity, all-around, charisma.... he had it all.
The best youtube bball compilation video for the greatest of all time. All of your videos are great hoopsencyclopedia but you've outdone yourself here. It's clear how much thought and contemplation you've put into this video, for everything from the music to the moves to the sequencing. I love all your vids and I hope that you'll continue to make more.
This was the very best highlight video for jordan
Thanks :) Such an athlete will probably never come round again. I find it vaguely amusing that analysts and fans are measuring stats and championships. Numbers don't say shit. You have to have WATCHED MJ in his prime, and THEN observe the NBA now, to even fathom how much of a force he was. Not dissin' on Bron, but even if the guy won 10 rings, he's got nothing on MJ. People just do not understand, it's BEYOND numbers.
Who ever made this ty again about 14 years now I keep coming back to this master piece the music and all the art from mj just amazing ty ❤
Definitely in the top 3 of compilation vids I've seen on Mike, and there are tons, so this is a magnificent accomplishment. Mike moved so smoothly-he flowed like bamboo in the wind, like water. This video speaks to life because without defenders to overcome, Mike's moves would not have been so pretty. In life, God brings out the best in us by taking us through adversity. Beautiful!
People that say he wouldn't be as good in today's NBA because "players are more athletic/talented" are millennials who missed out on the golden age of the NBA... in today's watered down soft ass league where if you touch someone it's a foul Jordan could average 50 and that's no exaggeration... just look at what hes doing in this video and imagine that in today's league lmao... I rest my case... you dont see shit like this anymore.
I could care less about the NBA nowadays. But I'd pay $500 for a remastered 4k Blu-ray set of Michael Jordan's career.
I'm a huge Jordan fan. I've seen a lot of clips but yours is the ultimate, definitive collection of highlights of Jordan. You have stuff that I haven't seen in years and lots that I've never seen. Thanks. I know it took you days to put this together.
This the the best MJ video on youtube, far and away the best. Thanks for uploading, you are the man.
he was an alien!! Good Lord! 😮
Hey man this is unbelievable. I havn't seen a ton of these highlights before. Just wanted to say thank you so much for putting this here. Can't wait for part 2. GO MIKE U ARE THE GOAT!!!!
incredible job hoops, thank you so much for posting all the amazing MJ vids. I had the luxury of attending his last game ever in Philly, can still hear the we want Mike chants
NBA should have retire number 23.
@EveryDayIsAGoodDay You crazy. Lebron should have started his legacy with a different number.
EveryDayIsAGoodDay 😄👍
HOW HE WAS PLAYING WAS NOT HUMAN....
Thanks Hoopcyclopedia, this is amazing. I've been a fan of MJ for decades and have never seen much of this footage. It really displays MJ's creativity and dominance well.
Man am i glad to hear that. Lookin forward to it Hoops and take ur time, we know it'll be worth the wait
Lebron's on his way there, but too far from what Kobe has achieved in terms of greatness, and Kobe is a little too short of MJ's greatness. But Lebron will not be remembered for the next 200 years after his death, while MJ will remain immortal in the memories of even the days of cyborg basketball players.
Anyone who truly knows the game knows that Jordan is by far superior than Lebron James.
that was the most beautiful collection of jordan highlights i have ever seen... very nice to see the more rare ones, thanks!
Great job at actually posting clips that are unique and haven't been seen before. Great job, best MJ video out there.
The fact that LeBron is allowed to be in debates about him and Jordan is such a joke... the NBA and media really know how to brainwash people, and I get it... they need to hype up other players to keep people invested, they want you to always think that whatever era your in your witnessing the best players but it's a joke... this video alone proves how much greater Jordan was than anyone let alone LBJ... LeBron just can't do half of what Jordan did... Kobe was a great imitator but he will always be the apprentice of the master... forget about championships, stats, accolades, even though Jordan dominates those too... but just watch highlight vids like this and compare to ones of Kobe, Bron, literally anyone... they all just don't quite compare to Jordan... and I love Kobe and Bron but they don't belong in debates with Jordan... IMO Magic and Bird are the two closest to Jordan. Kobe was amazing and I loved watching him play but just because he imitated MJ.
(4:56 - 5:20) DO PEOPLE NOT realize how dangerous and improvisational Jordan was! You think that just because today's players are on average more athletic, that they are smarter then MJ and could stop his creativity? MJ was shooting and dunking over athletic 6'10, 6'11, 7'0 footers back then, it makes me laugh that people think he couldn't light up a Lebron or KD today.
lol it makes me laugh that people think Michael isn't as athletic.
yeah LeBron is more muscular.
But muscular does not = athletic.
Michael could easily dunk on LeBron...
look at this compilation..
every game from Michael was literally like art.
in my opinion, athleticism is a combination of strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, balance and other things like that.
Michael was the better athlete versus lebron for sure.
That clip is from a Spanish all-star game MJ participated in for fun. He played one half on one team and then switched jerseys and played for the other team the 2nd half! I should probably put the whole game up at some point.
This is the best Michael Jordan mix on youtube period. I miss watching MJ play. Its a damn shame we gotta get old, I wish that MJ could play basketball forever.
Lebron has maybe 4 go to moves when he drives Jordan had 40
HAx2 Lebron’s move to the basket?
Basically run like a locomotive and bulldoze all the defenders on your way in and score, if you manage to get a foul also, good.
every time i watch one of your videos i am once again amazed at some of the things i see. I was fortunate enough to see Jordan play his last few years but i was still a little young to appreciate those years as much as I do now. some of the early clips are incredible.
What a great video!
Thanks for grabbing all of these clips- so good to see some that I haven't already seen before. It's amazing how many highlight moves he has.
6:13 7:36 are 2 of my new favorites. Thanks for making this!!
The most beautiful video ever. Probably the best 10 minutes on RUclips.
best jordan video ever made... the interaction of the music and the jordan movements is perfect...
nice job dude!
yo hoops outstanding work on this please get us a part 2, dont rush it just make it perfect like this vid, ahh the memories.
Honestly this is the best basketball video on youtube. Great Job!
hoops this video is amazing. the rarity of so many of this clips blows me away, i wish that i was born earlier than the late 80s so i couldve enjoyed the sheer athleticism he possessed in his prime. imo the combination of mj's athleticism, hoops iq, and sheer will to not just beat but to completely dominate his opponents every night is something that we may never see again in our lifetime. thank you for preserving these videos for people in the future to enjoy.
This is one of the best highlight reels for any athlete ever. Hope you get around to part II one of these days, Hoops.
congrats on over half a million views, hoops! i've said it before, this video is pure quality.
this is hands down the best jordan mix on youtube
Dear Michael. 1. Thank you. 2. You deserve the yacht. 3. You are the GOAT.
Dear Portland. 1. Thank you. 2. Thank you. 3. Thank you.
they did an admirable job of collecting an impressive array of Jordan clips we haven't seen a million times before. Props!
one of the most important videos on the platform
the thousands differing positive opinions and testimonies about MJ is proof of this guy's greatness. He is the sole inspiration of both the greats and amateurs. Just imagine the whole world basketball courts filled with grieving people saluting the GOAT as tribute, in case the day of his death comes. That tribute will never be applied to Kobe or Lebron. Agree? Agreed.
thanks hoops for this amazing video no words can say how much this video means to a lot of aspiring basketball players. thanks for upload in highquality too please do that for part 2... good things come to those who wait.
Thanks so much Hoops the HQ version is really awesome
This is such a mesmerizing video. I never get bored of it. Anyone who was too young to remember MJ as a Bull should watch this. It's sad how incomplete the NBA is without him.
When I see MJ playing the game of basketball with such grace and artistry, it makes me want to play ball and improve my game ... that's the most important thing I ever got from watching the GOAT! MJ is very inspiring and aspirational at the same time. His love for the game is evident in his moves, he doesn't just care for the money like most athletes today, although he amassed the most money in Basketball history.
That's the best MJ compilation!!!No doubt about it.Period.
best MJ highlight film i've seen. NICE work
I have never in my life been or believed in hypnotism till now, this is the best or as you say Hoops the ultimate MJ mix on youtube nah scratch that on the internet/web,frickin awesome,oh that dunk @ 8:14 i have never seen that and i thought i had seen every MJ dunk
Simple amazing....impossible to repeat...
Hey HOOPS THANK SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!
It goes right into ur veins and makes u feel lighter for a whole day!!! Thanks a lot love it!!
This is crazy. Lots of stuff I haven't seen yet. Also, nice work with the slomo. Thanks a lot for your work and for sharing it.
The fact with him is that, with other players, you can be surprised, amazed by their action, they can leave you speechless cos they are all great, but still, you can somehow identify such plays as...possible. You can think they're astonishing but you can delude yourself that "hey, perhaps in a playground with my friends I might do the same". While with Jordan, you look at him, and just cannot understand how can he possibly do things like those. He is unbelievable
I watch this video in high quality about once a month. It relaxes me, and pleases my senses.
Download link on the right, people...
hoops i know you're a busy dude but please post more :( we adore the rare shit. i send this shit to everyone i know.
Unbelievable !!! I feel so lucky I was able to watch his games live. The dunk on 7:11 is the best I've seen in my life. Thank you, Mike!
the most beautiful compilation i've seen.
Every single one of these plays is spectacular and amazing.
The best Jordan mix ever!
thanks hoops,
this was so beautiful, i felt like a better person just for watching this.
His ability to wait to shoot right before touching the ground and his ability to use both hands with ease really made him a force. Not to mention his ability to maneuver his body in the air to avoid blocks. Oh and lets not mention the best fadeaway ever. Amazing
This is the one of the greatest compilations of MJ ive ever seen. in our time we have been lucky enough to witness only one picasso. since them- thousands, if not millions will try to replicate them (kobe)- but its the first, the original that people will watch and remember forever. any one can sit there and study and duplicate- but to act and to create completely unpremeditated .....well... this happens once in a lifetime.
hats off to you hoopsencyclopedia..
this video, and the second part of this video are just perfect in so many ways.
BRAVISSIMO!!
The most excellent video on RUclips for the most magnificent and unparalleled basketball player ever.
Jordan is the Jimi Hendrix of basketball. I doubt we will ever see another with so many gifts and the will to develop all of them to their fullest extent, like Hendrix.
Thankfully, electronics has been put to some worthwhile use.
I've seen every game move MJ has done and yet this video has prooven that those wernt even his best. His moves in practice and exhibitions were even more fascinating
