The easiest compilation video to make is one of Michael Jordan. All you need to do is take 5 games from his career and you'll have enough material for an entire news segment.
The most difficult compilation video to make is one of Michael Jordan. If you take any 5 games from his career, you'll have so much material you won't know what to cut out.
Therein lied the challenge of this edit for me. With the tons of MJ mixes out there, I wanted to do something more complete. I also wanted to focus on the aesthetics of his abilities. That led me to a path of picking not only classic clips, but rare ones and personal favorites. For those who didn't grow up in the 80s before MJ became a champion, they can never know the full experience of what watching Jordan was like. Before all the awards, the statistics, the monster games, the titles and the global appeal, MJ was about his incredible moves. In the playground, people stuck their tongues out and tried to imitate his drives to the basket. Later on, people imitated his fadeaway. But his athletic moves were singular and his alone - awesome in aesthetics, control, spontaneity, improvisation, instinct and athleticism.
MJ revolutionized the game with his individual exploits and we see bits and pieces of this in everyone today. From Kobe studying his shooting mechanics to create shots to Wade attacking the basket to Lebron transferring his power to his teammates to Iverson in his isolations to Carter in his dunking, MJ continues to be, as Drexler said, "The Pro's Pro".
But obviously, there will always be only one MJ. This video captures the essence of MJ stripped of everything but his pure, remarkable talents as completely as possible in 10 minutes. A truly complete edit would take a video several days long - even weeks - but that would be impossible anyway.
By blurring the line between sport and art, MJ became the greatest athletic artist we will ever know. "Black Cat" was his nickname to his friends for his cat-like reflexes and grace and panther-like power and killer instinct. This is my ultimate tribute, with excellence, in return for his excellence to the game of basketball.

The NBA owes it to itself and it's fans to do the following:
1.Dig up all these clips in their original film setting.
2.Put them together in this exact sequence (but now remastered so it looks like it did when the game was broadcast)
    3.Use the same soundtrack
    4.Release on blu-ray
    5.Send hoopsenyclopedia a huge check.
The best thing about hoops' channel is the ORIGINAL footage. Most MJ clips are the same one's used over and over. Not here. Tons of stuff you won't see anywhere else.
    Bravo

What is also amazing is these types of moves were made each and every night he played. There wasn't just one moment every week or every 3 games. These were done every night over a long span of his career before his second retirement. I saw him play in 1986 and it was indescribable. No one compared but he constantly worked to get the ball and just never missed. I was an instant fan and never lost faith in his abilities. To me the greatest.

The dunk at 5:54 is ridiculous, I remember that game it was a tight hard fought game back and forth and what made the dunl so amazing is that it was late in the 4th quarter with the score very close. The energy to still elevate that high late in the game is a very rare and spectacular ability by a superior athlete.

I remember the first game I attended where Jordan was playing. It was 90 or 91 and they were playing against Barkley's Sixers at the Spectrum. I sat 7 rows behind the Bulls bench. I remember thinking that even if you didn't know anything about basketball and no offense to Sir Charles, it would take you 2 seconds to recognize 23 as the best player on the floor by far. There is no word to describe the feeling from the crowd when he had the ball - electric is close. Like a collective gasp.

I think your compilation vids are still far and away the best Jordan videos out there, if only for the fact there's tons of footage not limited to the same old signature highlights. There's so much stuff I've seen here that I hadn't seen before or since. Then, the music just takes it up another level. I think some of the coolest clips are when you see Jordan making nearly identical moves seasons apart. It's sort of hard to capture the fluidity of his game, but it just clicks here. This and part II are just awesome! GOAT highlight vids for the GOAT.

It really makes no sense. Neither kobe nor lebron is close to mj. He has everything. All the athleticism. All the skill. All the intangibles. Lebron has athleticism. But his skill and intangibles isn't really close to mj. Kobe skill and intangibles is similar to mj (but not on par), but mj athleticism is far beyond kobe. And mj athleticism is also beyond lebron.
The only player that I really have on mj level, based on my eye test and understanding of the game is Larry bird. Although his athleticism is no where near mj, he was still 6'10. But bird was a sniper assassin shooter. And in terms of intangibles, he may have the greatest intangibles for the game of all time. And then the only person who I would be willing to concede to as being a better shooter than bird is steph curry... and u can call me crazy but I still would make an argument for bird.

+cavaleer because Jordan was playing streetball while everyone else were sort of in an NBA stupor. Trying to appear as pro ballers instead of just relaxing and playing the game the way they naturally knew how. Many were just over coached into non working systems while Jordan was allowed to do his thing and make it appear as if coaches were in control. now when the freestyle coaching style of Phil Jackson, along with better role players, meshed with Jordans' streetball style, they became unbeatable and won chips!!!

    • @patrickharrison1913
      @patrickharrison1913 6 лет назад +1

False. NBAs global popularity exploded in the early 90s. No one in the mid 1980s cared about basketball in Europe or Asia outside of maybe Yugoslavia or Greece. By 1995 it was one of the 'coolest' sports in the world and participation rates went through the roof. That was primarily due to Jordans rise to superstardom, propelled by a Nike marketing machine too. Bird, Magic and Kareem were unknowns outside of the US in the 1980s.

Patrick Harrison Straigth facts. I learned about Jordan and the NBA when I was 11 in 91 while I was commuting between my house and the playground playing soccer on the streets of Arnhem, The Netherlands. I picked up a basketball because of the fact that older guys were robbing space of our playgound to play ball. It was booming! 🏀

MJ's quote: "I never cared for 360s since those are dunks everyone else can do. I like being creative with the ball, using one hand etc. The only 360 worth doing is one from the free throw line. That would be the perfect dunk."

Like a lot of people in the comment section this was one of the first highlight tapes on RUclips I came across and watched over and over and over again.
Coming back to it now I'm interested in how you came about this song and what gave you the idea to use it? I feel like this song really captures MJs inner competitive state of the never ending constant chase of perfection he was after, beautiful but melancholy (that's enough waxing poetic)
But yeah, I'll always remember this beat over this mix as much as MJs moves here, so thank you for creating this reel man.

Michael "AIR" Jordan was the real deal. The pioneer assasin of the NBA. Russell, Magic and Bird had it too, but none could compete with MJ's legendary athletic ability and more importantly, HIS BODY CONTROL!!! He was so sick once contact was initiated... Able to finish at the hoop unlike any other. He really made the NBA worth watching. Missing a Bulls game in the early 90's was unheard of! He made those playoff games THE most important thing going on at that time. Man, I miss you Mike..

In today's over commercialized NBA with so much hype, they show one big dunk with barely any contact by LBJ and sensationalize it with "Dunk of the Year" honors. Jordan and "Dunks of the Year" multiple times each game and most were much greater than anything LBJ did. LBJ has power but he doesn't have the huge hands that allowed Jordan to dunk in such unique ways.
There's only one GOAT and his name is Michael Jeffrey Jordan!

You have to have WATCHED MJ in his prime, and THEN observe the NBA now, to even fathom how much of a force he was. Not dissin' on Bron, but even if the guy won 10 rings, he's got nothing on MJ. People just do not understand, it's BEYOND numbers.

People that say he wouldn't be as good in today's NBA because "players are more athletic/talented" are millennials who missed out on the golden age of the NBA... in today's watered down soft ass league where if you touch someone it's a foul Jordan could average 50 and that's no exaggeration... just look at what hes doing in this video and imagine that in today's league lmao... The fact that LeBron is allowed to be in debates about him and Jordan is such a joke... the NBA and media really know how to brainwash people, and I get it... they need to hype up other players to keep people invested, they want you to always think that whatever era your in your witnessing the best players but it's a joke... this video alone proves how much greater Jordan was than anyone let alone LBJ... LeBron just can't do half of what Jordan did... Kobe was a great imitator but he will always be the apprentice of the master... forget about championships, stats, accolades, even though Jordan dominates those too... but just watch highlight vids like this and compare to ones of Kobe, Bron, literally anyone... they all just don't quite compare to Jordan... and I love Kobe and Bron but they don't belong in debates with Jordan... IMO Magic and Bird are the two closest to Jordan. Kobe was amazing and I loved watching him play but just because he imitated MJ.

(4:56 - 5:20) DO PEOPLE NOT realize how dangerous and improvisational Jordan was! You think that just because today's players are on average more athletic, that they are smarter then MJ and could stop his creativity? MJ was shooting and dunking over athletic 6'10, 6'11, 7'0 footers back then, it makes me laugh that people think he couldn't light up a Lebron or KD today.

hoops this video is amazing. the rarity of so many of this clips blows me away, i wish that i was born earlier than the late 80s so i couldve enjoyed the sheer athleticism he possessed in his prime. imo the combination of mj's athleticism, hoops iq, and sheer will to not just beat but to completely dominate his opponents every night is something that we may never see again in our lifetime. thank you for preserving these videos for people in the future to enjoy.

the thousands differing positive opinions and testimonies about MJ is proof of this guy's greatness. He is the sole inspiration of both the greats and amateurs. Just imagine the whole world basketball courts filled with grieving people saluting the GOAT as tribute, in case the day of his death comes. That tribute will never be applied to Kobe or Lebron. Agree? Agreed.

This is such a mesmerizing video. I never get bored of it. Anyone who was too young to remember MJ as a Bull should watch this. It's sad how incomplete the NBA is without him.

When I see MJ playing the game of basketball with such grace and artistry, it makes me want to play ball and improve my game ... that's the most important thing I ever got from watching the GOAT! MJ is very inspiring and aspirational at the same time. His love for the game is evident in his moves, he doesn't just care for the money like most athletes today, although he amassed the most money in Basketball history.

The fact with him is that, with other players, you can be surprised, amazed by their action, they can leave you speechless cos they are all great, but still, you can somehow identify such plays as...possible. You can think they're astonishing but you can delude yourself that "hey, perhaps in a playground with my friends I might do the same". While with Jordan, you look at him, and just cannot understand how can he possibly do things like those. He is unbelievable

His ability to wait to shoot right before touching the ground and his ability to use both hands with ease really made him a force. Not to mention his ability to maneuver his body in the air to avoid blocks. Oh and lets not mention the best fadeaway ever. Amazing

This is the one of the greatest compilations of MJ ive ever seen. in our time we have been lucky enough to witness only one picasso. since them- thousands, if not millions will try to replicate them (kobe)- but its the first, the original that people will watch and remember forever. any one can sit there and study and duplicate- but to act and to create completely unpremeditated .....well... this happens once in a lifetime.
    hats off to you hoopsencyclopedia..

    BRAVISSIMO!!
The most excellent video on RUclips for the most magnificent and unparalleled basketball player ever.
Jordan is the Jimi Hendrix of basketball. I doubt we will ever see another with so many gifts and the will to develop all of them to their fullest extent, like Hendrix.
Thankfully, electronics has been put to some worthwhile use.
