    🌷My tulip combination has worked really well this year, and with different stem heights and flower size. From tallest to smallest: Dordogne (orange-pink), Sanne (antique pink), Ronaldo (dark plum), Pretty Princess (pink-bronze). I really love your videos, Annette, I’ve learned so much from you - and you are always so cheerful and positive!

    That is such a great idea with your leggy cosmos, you are just a wealth of information Annette and it is so nice you are sharing it with others. I do like the Black Hero tulips but for me they would have to be planted by themselves because they are such a dark contrast compared to your other tulips.

    • @cottoverdi

      Thanks Jane. Yes, they are too dark - I've yanked them all out today and have them in a massive vase in my kitchen! 😁

    I actually agree with you about the black hero. It is so dark and such a strong contrast to the blushing lady that the black hero becomes the focal point for your eye and you lose the overall impact of that glorious sweep of tulips you planted. I think a softer contrast would give the eye a gentle pause without disrupting the visual flow.
    I just started following you on RUclips and love everything you are sharing. Thank you so much!

    I don't think Black Hero looks that bad, yes it's very dark, but adds drama to an otherwise happy-fruity-cocktail sort of mix, rather than remove it, you might try a fourth colour to bridge the gap?

    I don't think your tulip combination is bad. It is not an ombre mix for sure, rather contrast. I have Black Hero for the first time this year and I never seen such a long lasting double tulip before, through hail, rain, wind it even lasts in the vase for ages. You could just cut them all and make a big arrangement with some white or pink blooming shrub 😍😍 I have them combined with Ranunculus and they look amazing 🤗 Greetings, Judit

    Hi Annette. I think the black tulips would have looked nicer as clumps, and or in a row in front of the beautiful blushing lahdies. They are very dark, but that could look great in the right place. Just my opinion, but that's wat I would do next year If I were planning to redo the bed. From my perspective it looked ok, but I can see where you're coming from. Also, I would suggest you get some ratchet secateurs as you were struggling a bit with those plum suckers, and you could give your wrist a nasty injury just by squeezing so hard and it's not worth hurting yourself. Lovely video, thank you. X

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks Jimmy, and thanks for the tip about the secateurs - I have very weak wrists and thumbs so it's always a struggle for me but on this occasion the camera tripod was just in the way 😂 I will definitely be looking into ratchet secateurs.

    I sowed my Zinnia about 3 weeks ago but will do a succession sowing to extend the flowering season. Really interesting how you pot on your Cosmos, Annette- thank you for the great tip. I never knew this would work- brilliant 🙂 I don't mind the tulip combination but agree that a purple or maybe even a lavender shade would look much better. You could try Queen of the night as that is definitely more on the purple tone. Happy gardening 🙂 x

      Thanks Be. Unfortunately, I brought a slug into the seedling room without realising and it ate about 30% of the Cosmos - so I lost quite a few - I'm soooo annoyed with myself! 😕😬

      @@cottoverdi Oh nooo! That's so sad. I feel for you 😞. Slugs/snails ate the tops of my tomato seedlings- my favourite varieties and also tops of a new variety, (to me) that I am growing this year, (striped stuffer). I am hoping the tiny side shoots will grow and I can train them up to become leaders. So hopefully all not lost.

    Perfect timing, going to pot on my leggy cosmos later. Do you then pinch them as they grow Annette, or just let them keep growing up straight? It’s the first time for me growing cosmos. I have just ordered the 8 module trays like yours, which will hopefully stop me from sowing too many seeds.
    I like the contrast of the black hero tulip, on camera it comes across as burgundy, I agree though if it really does like black I wouldn’t like that. I have a Victoria plum tree which came with the house we purchased 40 years ago, you will love it. Every year we get literally hundreds and hundreds and I make crumbles for the freezer for a year, plum cakes and my daughter makes plum jam.
