The sarcasm😅 I just also realized that Max Forced her taxi back to threaten her, even though he told Dora, "if she comes back, we should keep her" He was enamored before he even took the job as Medical director. He knew he had cancer, Helen is a cancer Dr. he had seen on TV. With all the Chinatown hectic schedule, he had time to research her. Forced her back to practice, while firing a whole department. No wonder his guilt was so heavy on him.
Oh yes. This was my thinking too. He was so desperate to have her back in the hospital. Part of me wondered if Helen’s presence was why he went to New Amsterdam. He knew she would be his best chance of living and she was passionate about New Amsterdam. A win-win. The attraction was unexpected to him. The attraction came about because of them keeping secrets with each other. No one but those two knew his situation for months. Being a mother hen though is a terrible basis for a relationship. It is why they make sure to have them both burden each other at times. That way they are both emotional supports for each other
Yeah I got the feeling that he knew of her before he took the job likely saw her in TV. When he saw her in the lobby he knew instantly who she was even though she wasnt at the department heads meeting
