    I like how Sauron alternates between weak, feeble, powerless dolt and omnipotent, all-knowing god, based on whether the writers want him to win or lose in a scene.

    He has many names... The Elves called him Gorthaur, which in their language meant "sucks at fighting". Later he deceived them under the guise of Annatar, "He in the Dress". The Men of Westernesse in their fall called him Zigûr: "blue-balls"... but you will know him best as the Dark Lord of the Rings: Sauron, from the Elvish word "simp-lord".

      @fantasywind3923 2 месяца назад +6

      Yep....sad state of affairs to see it that way....Tolkien vision about the 'earlier incarnations' earlier form of Sauron is also given in his letters:
      "Sauron should be thought of as very terrible. The form that he took was that of a man of more than human stature, but not gigantic. In his earlier incarnation he was able to veil his power (as Gandalf did) and could appear as a commanding figure of great strength of body and supremely royal demeanour and countenance. But at the beginning of the Second Age he was still beautiful to look at, or could still assume a beautiful visible shape - and was not indeed wholly evil, not unless all 'reformers' who want to hurry up with 'reconstruction' and 'reorganization' are wholly evil, even before pride and the lust to exert their will eat them up. But many Elves listened to Sauron. He was still fair in that early time, and his motives and those of the Elves seemed to go partly together: the healing of the desolate lands. Sauron found their weak point in suggesting that, helping one another, they could make Western Middle-earth as beautiful as Valinor. It was really a veiled attack on the gods, an incitement to try and make a separate independent paradise. Gil-galad repulsed all such overtures, as also did Elrond. But at Eregion great work began - and the Elves came their nearest to falling to 'magic' and machinery. With the aid of Sauron's lore they made Rings of Power ('power' is an ominous and sinister word in all these tales, except as applied to the gods). Sauron dominates all the multiplying hordes of Men that have had no contact with the Elves and so indirectly with the true and Unfallen Valar and gods. Thus, as the Second Age draws on, we have a great Kingdom and evil theocracy (for Sauron is also the god of his slaves) growing up in Middle-earth. He rules a growing empire from the great dark tower of Barad-dûr in Mordor, near to the Mountain of Fire, wielding the One Ring."
      He also writes more about the physical forms of the Ainur:
      "The fanar were physical or had the properties of material substances, i.e. were not transparent, could move other objects, cast shadows (if not themselves shining) and were resisted by or offered resistance to other physical things. But the Vala (or Maia) could move or pass over Sea. For their bodies were self-made. They houseless[?] as spirits could go where they would (either slowly or immediately), and could then reclothe themselves. In Middle-earth they usually occluded their radiance."
      ...
      "The Valar had a command, great individually, almost complete as a united council, over the physical material of Eä (the material universe). Their fanar which were originally devised out of love for the 'Children of Eru', the Incarnate, whom they were to guard and counsel, had the properties of the material of which the köar (or bodies) of the Elves (and also of Men) were formed: sc. they were not transparent, they cast shadows (if their inner luminosity was dimmed); they could move material objects, and were resisted by these, and resisted them. These fanar were, however, also personal expressions (in terms suitable to the apprehension of the Incarnate) of their individual 'natures' and functions, and were usually also clad in vestures of similar purpose."
      ...
      "The fanar of the great Valar were said by the Eldar who had dwelt in Valinor usually to have had a stature far greater than that of the tallest Elves, and when performing some great deed or rite, or issuing commands, to have assumed an awe-inspiring height."

    this could have been such an amazing story.
    a guy collecting the underdogs, trying to form them into a force to be recconed with (sounds like a sports movie)
    but then gets betrayed by them and tries to find his way, but gets forced into positions he doesnt want to until he sees reality for what it is. a rough world that forces you to make hard decisions many, who have never been in your shoes, would deem evil.
    sauron lives because of you is bullshit. even if he had died, he would have been reborn. just like gandalf

      Apparently Tom Bombadil shows up and reminds Gandalf his name is Gandalf. Which is odd because that name comes from the men of Anatar, a kingdom that Elendil _hasn't created yet._ Kinda weird his names Gandalf before the people who named him that existed, but I guess thats just Rings of Power.

    the series' first shot of Sauron was actually good, with the orcs cowering from him. Sauron's speech to the orcs was just absurd when he's already established to radiate power and these creatures are already his slaves, he has had thousands of years of controlling them. He's not a noob

    I watched the series just to talk trash properly, fast forwarding the arcs of hobbits and numenor of course. Sauron's arc is like the only with anything good in it, I ended up liking how Sauron was portrayed, taking into account it's Amazon. My only issue is that orcs never killed Sauron, he commands, they obey, period!! Sauron is too powerful to be killed and outmaneuvered by orcs. Later on he is show to have his manipulation game on point.

    Why did the orcs randomly kill Adar? The whole point of the entire season was for Adar's orcs to capture and kill Sauron so the orcs can have peace and make orc babies, and not be enslaved by Sauron. Makes no sense, other than Sauron having warped the orcs' minds off-screen to make them slaves (as Adar warned) and forget about their desire for peace, but those conclusions are only reached by the audience guessing and filling in the gaps. Also if Sauron has the power to enslave the orcs' minds like that, why didn't he do that at the start of episode 1 and avoid becoming a pile of goo? Is the Adar's pov shot of the orcs leering over him meant to portray Sauron's gloating about making the same orcs who did that to Sauron in epsidoe 1 now delivering the same fate to Adar who doesn't have the power of goo to resurrect him?

    • @ReinoldFZ
      @ReinoldFZ 2 месяца назад +2

      If I had evidence of the smartness of the writers I would posit they intended to tell that Sauron by himself couldn't dominate others, not even his orcs, so the need for rings to control others. Most probably the writers "kinda forgot about it."

      Because writers don't need Adar any more so he just dies.... which a shame, because even he was their original creation (not that they have much originality) but he was perhaps the best character in the show and the actor was also among the best.

    • @kostantza1
      @kostantza1 2 месяца назад

      Yeah, people are right, Adar died because they didn't know what to do with him. I mean, they'd apparently already extended his role, I suppose to cater to the audience who responded well to him, and as with all other things, they hadn't thought out how they'd handle that storyline. What's more, his death scene should have been tragically epic, and it was just a "meh", like, Sauron doesn't even acknowledge him, and his children don't show the least regret or conflict about it. The writing is so deep behind the bottom of the barrel it's reaching the center of the earth.

    But I swear, the fact that Sauron had the audacity to dive down into the ocean, and put his filthy cis male assigned at birth hands on her and stop her from saving herself just made me so.......ugh, disgusted and yes, traumatized.
    Not only did I need an emergency refill of my anti anxiety/depression/psychotic medication, but I also DEMANDED that my Therapist give me a 4 hour emergency session which is paid for my the Tax Payers because I'm disabled from the "generational trauma" of slavery, from cis males who were assigned the gender of male at birth.
