See a 7-string played right: / hopkinsas
See - I told 'ya. I DO review other guitars besides Gibsons! This time a pointy, 7-String B.C. Rich Custom Shop stopped by to say hello. I've recently partnered with a local area pawn shop to help them get some nice Gibsons into their store and they brought this BC Rich over hoping I would know something about it.
My knowledge on BC Rich guitars is very limited. Before this 7-string, all I've had was a 1980 Rich Bich 10-String and a cheapy Trace Warbeast bolt on neck guitar back in my teen years.
When I first saw this 7 string, I had no idea what it was. The shop said it was in on pawn and the guy never came back for it - so it has sat in the back of their shop for 8 months since the shop couldn't ID the guitar. They left it with me to do some investigating. They get knowledge on their guitar - I get an interesting guitar on my channel - win/win.
My first step was to locate the serial number. It took awhile, but I eventually found it on the fretboard! This one is 20411. This made the guitar a Custom Shop Warlock model from 2000. BC Rich serials are a little weird after 2000. Before 1999, it was fairly straightforward - YYppp. So 99025 would mean 1999 - 25th in production. Now in 2000+ it follows that same format, but you have to know the leading 2 means 2000 and the final year digit means the ending number. 20411 means 2000 - 411th in production in this case. 21411 would mean 2001 - 411th in production. It's a little confusing, but this is what I found.
This guitar has a licensed Floyd Rose on it that really badly needs set-up. The neck also needs adjusted, the output jack requires some work or replacement and the electronics need some tightening. Since this is not my guitar and I'm not a certified tech for this type of guitar - I didn't want to touch it. If you want to buy this guitar, please set aside $200 to have this guitar fully serviced before gigging.
This thing stays in tune just about as well as you'd think an unlocked nut, floyd rose guitar would - not at all haha. The demo kind of sucks on this one, but at least I tried to get some sounds out of the guitar.
I wasn't even going to blacklight this guitar, but I was just going through my usual filming process and turned the light on. To my surprise, there was an invisible signature on the back of the headstock! I initially thought this was a signature of a previous owner, but it turned out to be of the Founder of B.C. Rich guitar's son - Bernie Rico Jr!
Bernie apparently signs the guitars that he personally built so I think that this makes this one a little bit special. Apparently, Mr. Jr also has his own guitar company in which he scammed a lot of people out of a lot of down payments. I don't know a lot about that story, but it was interesting to read about.
Overall, a 7-string guitar has a much wider and thinner neck than a regular 6-string. It helps you develop proper technique (thumb under the neck) and it allows you to hit notes you couldn't before. I feel blinded by the extra B string and I only want to play that one though!
7 Strings aren't only for Death-Metal though! Many accomplished jazz players and soloists like RUclipsr Dovydas use a 7 string - though theirs are generally less pointy.
I had fun trying this guitar out. I think I'd like to try a 7-string Gibson one day that doesn't have a trem unit or those scary Steinberger Tuner's that break.

Omg man, I owned one of those back in the early 2000s and it was the best sounding/playing metal guitar I've ever had. I want it back so bad!!!
I want my handmade ‘95 Ignitor back! If you see it back home in Michigan, let me know!
That signature on the back of the head stock is by BERNIE RICO JR-the master who crafted this -you DONT what to get rid of it-this guitar is a 💎 gem,
The holes are for the flames to shoot out!
the holes are chambers, 7 strings can be used for any genre, controks are volume neck, volume bridge, tone, 3 way, and the small switch is coil tapped when up. they USED to make a fuck ton of high end guitars. in fact from the 60s to 80s they were all hand made. and the "cheaper ones were only about 25% of their total worth. Hopefully this helps and educates. BTW, the warlock is one of the most comfortable shapes ive ever played
Very much deserved shout out to DØVYDAS, one of the best improvisational players out there.
I had a B.C. Rich, Platinum Series Warlock, and it was a dam nice guitar. My style changed over a few years and I sold it. I actually got more for it than what I paid brand new. Of coarse the buyer was a spoiled young metal head that just had to have it, with parents that had deep pockets and just gave me what I was asking.😆
He probably loved Slipknot and wanted to be like Mick. =D
Always been a huge fan of the warlock , was a big mick thompson fan in my teens, owned a few of them
Dude that’s Bernie ricos signature
Doesnt the "R" on the head stock mean it was made by the custom shop?
When I was a kid this guitar was my phone wall paper and I didn't even knew how to play guitar back then thank you for refreshing my memories man this guitar is a piece of art
I considered some BC Rich's a while back but they've since been bought out and moved from Korea to China.
(With the same price point and many of the models discontinued.)
Since then I've just bought Agile models when I had a thru body 8 string itch.
My first guitar was a Warlock. My wife gave it to me when I returned from Desert Storm. Still got it and play it. Good axe!
The old 80's Takeuchi locking bridges were made in Japan and are fantastic! Much better than my Floyd Rose Specials.
Bolt-on does not equal cheap.
Not always, no. However, when there is a set or neck-through version of something and then a bolt-on version, usually the bolt-on is the less expensive of the two. Thanks for watching!
@@SlayingMantis676 well the idiots who claim the wood or materials the body is made out of makes a big difference will embarrass themselves talkin shit coz acrylic drum kits are renown for their amazing tone and infamously used by John bohnom back in his day!
@@Trog Many of the upper end BC Riches made in the USA and Japan from the 80s have bolt on necks.
Speed Holes! Like on a Buick? ;-)
very unique axe and case in good shape too. I like the full complement of switches/knobs and hollowbody. I had a Squire Stagemaster 7 that had a licensed Floyd Rose and the standard 7- string tuning as well. I eventually decided to stick w/learning the 6- string 1st so I sold it
Sweet. The custom USA bc rich guitars are really really good. In fact they are some of the best you can get.
from 77 to 85 they made great stuff .....I had the sleath model ....weird shape but great neck ....Bernie Rico (RIP)
I'm a Gibson snob and gotta say thanks for changing it up.
Will we ever see a BC rich with a normal number of strings on this channel? Find out next time on The Trogly's Guitar Show!
Every black warlock ive ever seen was a bronze series covered in dust at a pawn shop
Jackson also stamps there high-end custom shop neck through guitars on the last fret of the fretboard with the serial number
I said I's never do it, but after 25 years of playing, I broke down and bought an Ibanez RG7. I've found that the 7 string allows me to play a lot faster. I'd been told that by a couple of people, but I just chalked it up as "Bullshit". I couldn't imagine any way that adding a low B and making the neck wider could possibly make it faster. Basic "Shred 101" tells you that the opposite of speed, is distance, and more strings with a bigger neck, you are literally adding distance to the thing. I was looking in the wrong place, it's there.
so it is a Semi Hollow 1920s BC Jazz guitar?
we're the back plates flush mounted? if so, abit slack on the custom shops behalf.
ItS BEAUTIFUL
Holy cow I love that riff on 7:06 you can go on tour with a band and do that
AJ Ghost sounds good on the lowend for such a small speaker.
Hey man! Just found a similar B.C. Rich on Reverb with the same little holes. The seller said about them: "Of note, the 4 tiny holes on the lower left wing of the guitar are "chambered". This was an effort by B.C. Rich to keep high gain and heavy rhythms from being muddied. It definitely does the job. By no means is this guitar a "semi-hollow". Only the small area (see pictures) is chambered". Cheers!
Will black light work on poly finish?
Sweet !!!
Just seeing this video. The 4 holes are a semi hollow “tone chamber and the mini switch is for an active Low B boost, or treble boost. The first year or two also offered 25 frets
Hey Mr. Trogly
Good show as usual. I enjoy watching your show, packed with information. Great job.
I know you a traditional type of guitar player, which is very cool. I love my Les Paul. It's in the top 3 guitars of all time, and yes it doesn't have a trem system. Of course as you know there are some special made from the factory .l know because l had one. Yeah it's not quite the same tone. I guessing because of all the wood you have to route out to make room for it. You know a lot of people who have say a strat, which constantly goes out of tune, so people put a block or something to make it not move so it stays in tune longer. Myself l absolutely love the trem bar, therefore l educated myself on how the physics of it all works. Yes it's a pain in the butt to set it up properly, but man when it's set up right it like Eddie Van Halen.
I've been watching your show a long time and have watched you progress on your playing skill, very cool proud of you. All I'm asking is try to learn the mechanics of the trem system. Learn how to set it up properly and l believe it will definitely open doors that are just not there without one. And once you get the hang of it, l know you will be into it.
Have a great day, and
TAKE CARE.
Bc rich is my #2 on my favorite guitar brands
...My Guitarist Has The 'Platinum Pro' Version Of This w/Seymour Duncan PuPs. Basically B.C. Rich's Version Of a High End 'Epiphone.' Great Guitar. Ultra Cool You Have a Signed Rico There. Thanks For This Episode. And. Take Care
What up Beauty Master piece of guitar💯
I got a warlock in 91. I never knew what that little switch did!
Glad to see Dovydas on here
I use to have a bc ritch warlock guitar
This is just the right axe for Gospel Music cause the Low B string allows you to transpose. By tuning the 3rd String down a Half Step, you can play the Lowest 6 Strings like a Baritone Guitar (w/ a High E to expand the voicings) in many songs written in B Standard such as Stay or Leave by Dave Matthews.
bc rich makes fantastic guitars honestly. if only they'd calm down just a bit.
U don't know anything about guitars at all
Funny I bought a Coffin Case for my 7 string Schecter & it looks just like that one. I named the guitar Beast. It's green & I mostly play 6 string.
Bucky Pizzarelli popularized the 7 String Guitar & may he RIP
That thing is pretty cool
i have a bc rich. despite the cool look, its more of a rhythm guitar to me. its slightly harder to do solos with it but it chugs well
What the hell, they sound like budget Năzguls! Anybody know what pups those are?
Everythings cool about this reminds me of mustaines old custom that had the double thin strings on the bass strings was like a hybrid bass strings were like 12string restyled
Hey Trog a quick Q. I'm thinking of buying one of those new fancy contemporary strats from Squire with the 2 humbuckers & the Floyd Rose but will I need a guitar tech every time I break a string? Its been years since my metal guitars & I just cant remember how easy or hard it is to change a string with the Floyd Rose setup. Cheers man or any info from anyone watching would be sound. Have a great weekend guys. Nice one.
I think it is one of those things you just have to either sit down and learn - or pay someone to do it every time. I don't deal with trem units enough to invest the time/energy to learn. I don't think it is rocket science, but more of a pain. However, when they are set right, they are a joy to have I've heard.
It's super easy to do on your own. You just need an allen wrench. Takes about 10 minutes to go through a string change. When locked down they stay in tune for a ridiculously long time
+TRIPLESEVENSIX - I had a 80s Fender HM STRAT w/ a Floyd Rose trem and I had zero problems with swapping strings, but had to cut the balls off the ends to lock the strings in. once it was tuned & I locked the nut, it never slipped out of tune like the Fender 6 screw trem systems do. I loved that guitar & regret I ever sold it after 20+ years, but I needed the money.
Ya bc rich gets shit on, have multiple and love them! I’m a les Paul guy too, I have the 1,000+ models but ya know I think 1000 is reasonable for a really amazing built guitar ya know? They play and sound great
Used to have a B. C. Rich shaped like the one Joe Perry used in late 70's Aerosmith or that Slash used in the video for "You Could Be Mine",albeit with the bolt on neck and a Cherry Red finish.
thats a mockingbird
i imagine you probably sold this guitar a long time ago but would have loved to own one of these! fan of bc rich myself, have an old KKV prototype that was discontinued in 2006 (has diamond inlays and EMG-HZ passive pickups with floyd rose tremolo, they changed it to be more like the guitar Slayer was actually using at the time) but ended up getting an Ibanez Universe UV70P green dot reissue for a 7 string guitar instead and so far its the best guitar I have ever owned plays like a dream.
the Korean assassin is a awesome guitar. I've owned one for 11 years. UN faultable.
KNOBS the 1st one is probably V for Bridge pick up #2 V. for neck placed lower due to less use #3 is master tone. Toggle switch if no batteries probably coil split that got loose then tightened upside down
I think the "R" on the headstock is for "Roman" the last name of Ed Roman. Look into it if you want a interesting history lesson on BC Rich. This video has made me want to go check out those old Ed Roman videos to brush up on my BC Rich history.
Kevin Johnson I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the R is for Rico.
I like B.C. Rich I own 2 B.C. Rich 1 Warlock guitar & 1 B.C. Rich Beast NJ Bass guitar.
I like the warlock basses
@@SlayingMantis676 i do know what you mean. And nice. I think my fav is the bigger warlock.
Got to find the vintage ones from japan
More pointy guitars please!
As an old-school Danzig fan, one day I will own a nice Rich Bich.
Out of all the BC Rich guitars I've owned, that one was definitely my favorite haha. Crazy controls aside, I liked the color scheme and sleekness of the body
I want the bich's back one. Hehe kinda dumb, butt i like it anyway.
Since you are pulling out something other than a Gibson, have you ever thought about looking at a Peavey T-60? I've seen quite a few on Reverb and they look like they were trying thing to emulate the look of a Melody Maker with a double cutaway. It seems like annoff-the-wall thing to look at.
Never mind. You already did! 😋
ruclips.net/video/NwWAejbWOXY/видео.html
I thought the peavy was a pretty decent guitar. I got that one in a local trade deal. I don't think I would necessarily buy another one though - wasn't visually pleasing to me, but if I saw one in a guitar store, I'd play it!
I like Floyd roses but the idea of locking nuts are a relic of an old age. With graphite nuts and perfect headstock shapes like music man with locking tuners they aren’t necessary.
And about the Floyd rose. Its a Schaller Floyd rose witch along with the gohta and the OFR are the best
Bad ass B.C. Rich a good setup you could get $2000-4000 .nice guitar
Those holes are a sound chamber that only came on the top costom shop guitars and the switch should have been a Bullet pre amp
That Bernie Rico Jr's Sig.
I'm probably late to the party, but it looks like the signature isn't the previous owner's.
It looks a lot like it says, "Bernie Rico Jr." That would be the son of Bernardo Chavez Rico, AKA BC Rich himself.
It's interesting because Jr. was making custom shop guitars for a while under his own brand. I wonder if he was a luthier under his old man.
Interesting guitar. I hate terms too... for much the same reasons.
7 strings get a bumb rap. It's just like regular guitar with more range. I've got a Gibson V7. I took out the active pickups and put in some passive pickups. It's an amazing guitar, great for everything from rock to blues to metal to you name it. People need to broaden their horizons a bit and be open minded. I was amazed at how good and versatile it is. Singer in a band I was in sang in the key of A a lot. So, I returned it and it was great, it was like a capo :) so, 7 strings are great fun.
Do these come with a fedora and instructions on how to grow a sweet neckbeard?
lmao
Probably
Boss online moniker man. I love it! Ha! You made me chuckle so hard!!
Only the 1920 Models
That's all neckbeard culture. Go start a guitar thread on 4chan's /b/ board and see what kind of shit people post.
That weird little switch looks like it could be that you can switch to clean and dirty channels
What a strange place for a serial number. I think these things are neat, but even cooler in my eyes:
old Deans.
Besides my SG'S, couple LP'S and my one and only Fender (a Tele), I have a couple Chicago made Deans. Brother, they are NICE. Really. One of them, an old V, is the nicest playing and sounding guitar I own. Have you had any experience with them?
You shock me again
Trogly I’m gonna be honest with you man, that guitar playing was a little bit of a fail, but I still love ya! I mean I’m sure if I tried to play a genre I wasn’t comfortable with I would fail as well, I’m not a guitar god! Also a quick tip for resting your hand on the floyd, try not to press to hard on it, even on some stop tail bridges, if you push hard enough the notes go sharp, try to keep your very light, it really helps! Also those riffs were pretty sick, if it stayed in tune and that tapping was just a tad bit cleaner, that would be one kick*ss riff!😄🤘🏻💜
Is this warlock 7 for sale?
It was, but it sold. I don't remember where this one ended up
@@Trog 😭😭
Very nice, made by Jr himself.
Call me dumb, but why does it glow green? What about different finishes?
All nitro finishes will glow green as they age, it's just how it is haha Poly finishes will sometimes glow, but not always
@@Trog Here's to learning something new everyday. Thanks
Clarify please- do you buy these guitars, demo them then sell them? If so, where are you selling? eBay?
Never mind- found you on reverb🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Am I the only one who noticed that guitar has 25 frets? seriously, look at it up close. The serial number is stamped into the 25th fret.
Would you be willing to sell this 🎸? If so how much?
You're welcome to make an offer on it reverb.com/item/10676657-video-2000-b-c-rich-custom-shop-warlock-neck-through-7-string-black-bernie-rico-jr-signature
Looks like Scott hull from Pig destroyer guitar...
Floyds are super easy. Just watch a RUclips video. A floyd set up maybe takes 20 min at most
Hey pointy guitars is my facebook page
I think I’m in the group!
But does it djent?
Dead meme, let it die
Uh BC Rich actually started out as a high end guitar brand. But from the 90s on the decline started which cheap bad guitars.
hey there!) Do you still own that bc rich? and if so, would you sell it to me? im serious about it! hope youll return to me with an answer anytime soon. cheers.
Just what the world needs Trog. Another pointy metal guitar & hair metal shite bands! Not. Ha. Have a sound weekend mate & stay safe. Nice one. ;)
I thought this video was about wealthy wizards in the 20th century BC..
Nifty... Certianly any guitar is great. They dont all need to be gibsons.
Some licensed Floyd Rose units are actually better than the Original Floyd Roses. Particularly the Gotoh model and the original Ibanez Edge and Edge Lo-Pro.
Brady My Ibanez TRS v1 is on par with a real Floyd rose in my experience. Also I have a cheap Yamaha with a licensed Floyd and that thing will stay in tune no matter what you do. I'm guessing a good set up will make most Floyd's decent.
It's an Ibanez bridge probably an edge or low pro for 7 strings. Great bridges...BC Rich used to license the Ibanez original edge bridges for USA guitars.
Lol I have an 8 string..
The neck needs TO BE adjusted. The input jack needs TO BE replaced.
It's a coil tap.
A custom shop Warlock with a licensed Floyd ? You sure the bridge is stock ?
Really nice guitar, regardless ! \m/
I make no originality claims on this one - just presenting the facts that I can see! haha
Thanks for your reply, Trogly. I love that guitar. If I was in America I would be messaging you for sure !
Ray Torvalds bc rich used to use the kahler steeler a lot, this looks like a Kahler steeler pro which technically is a licensed floyd rose
Thank you Ernesto Picazo. Another thing learned.
Take care of those horns
Quite frankly I'm more interested in the case than the guitar

How come you don't get a lot of fenders other than the fact that you are a "Gibson fanboy"
Being cheap, modular, mass produced guitars doesn't lend it self very well to being collectible to some people.
MechaMercDraws ive seen and played 50's-60's strats, not only are they collectable they hella expensive, i was playing a 63' strat in a horrible condition, and it was vavlued at 20k, it sold fast, and honestly i prefer the shape and feel of strat, they're amazing playing standing and sitting, generally light weight and bolt on doesn't really matter anymore, neither does dinding, it doesn't cost more to glue on a neck
Both binding and set neck cost more than unbound bolt on necks because they take more man hours to produce.
And yes, there are "vintage" Fender guitars but they were designed by Leo Fender himself as a departure from luthiering conventions and to be cheap, easy to mass produce guitars, that's why they are the most common electric guitar world wide. However to some people they have zero appeal vs the more traditional designed and constructed guitars. I have both seen and played many vintage Fender guitars and like any make there are "good" ones, however I hate how the best Fender guitars sound, look and feel when compared to Vintage Gibson guitars.
I just don't like Fenders as much. Limited Edition models will occasionally make their way to the channel though
Fender is jazz/blues garbage
A custom shop instrument and it only has a licensed Floyd. Does not compute!
Actually , the way to tune them properly is a bit different. I am a bit rusty on 7s...I think you drop your G. a half step . Uncle Bens channel goes into depth on it.
On another note , Trogly...WTF man? Definitely an unorthodox vid from you.
Ben Eller is the YTer that showed me how to tune a 7 string. He has a channel. Look him up and he has a vid on it.
Shane Miller nope, BEADGBE is definitely standard tuning for a 7 string.
+Peripheral Vision Try it and you will see what I mean.
Shane Miller nope, it's definitely BEADGBE. There are tons of alternate tunings you can try, but BEADGBE is standard.
Sean Dennis Just try it and you will see what I am talking about.
Too many pointy things haha.I would break it
Man, you have to be pretty desperate to buy something you know so little about to re-sell.
Thanks for the vid tho!
This was a consignment piece that a local shop wanted help selling. I was able to sell it and the new owner is very happy. Win-Win-Win
The Trogly's Guitar Show
GL
& thx again for the vid.
Do enjoy the 'show'!
I think this Guitar is from 1820 lol
Yeah Floyd rose isn't necessary to me. Or seven strings,
Licensed Floyd Rose's typically aren't very good. Can't believe it's on a Custom Shop guitar. Original German Floyd should be on there.
How would you do that when this guitar was made before OFR 7's were made?
