Gibson would NOT have routed that pickup cavity and under the control pots with Forstner bits, which is what somebody did. Also look at the painter's tape on the pickup wires at the volume pot. @panameadeplm 2 года назад

@@spikesguitarcamp A brand is not, and must never be, in charge of its own reputation. Brands have advertisements. At least, that is how things were once upon a time. Reputation is something created by the people that interact with the things the brand creates. Brands today no longer have reputations, they have worshippers. For some absolutely inexplicable reason, people now think that brands and companies should just always make the best products possible, regardless of what consumers end up buying, because apparently we live in Star Trek times and the economic foundations of supply and demand no longer exist. People seem to think that it doesn't matter what products you put money into, the end result must always be positive, because corporations are inherently good and their purpose is to make the world a better place, and not earn a profit, apparently. It's funny. Case in point: Gibson's reputation right now is "overpriced junk built by undedicated, irreverent workers whose main purpose is to be resold for a profit at a later time moreso than being a musical instrument." That is one side, and the other side is your retired dad or your 13 year old cousin saying "Gibson is the only brand that makes _real_ guitars, man." I can charge a million dollars for this morning's turd, that doesn't mean anything. The problem is if people start lining up to buy it. I can't sell a painting if I'm too busy making money selling my literal shit, because that would mean I'm losing money. That's why I don't blame Gibosn, or Apple, or insert clothing brand here, I blame the uneducated consumer and the way they irresponsibly spend their capital on the worst things money can buy, based on attention seeking and corporate spirituality. Yes, Gibson should not ever sell actual garbage like the guitar featured in this video. But it's not Gibson's fault that people want to buy garbage. Gibson does not have a duty to society to earn less money by educating me on what I should spend my money on. Society has a duty to itself to not be idiotic.

If the thing works when you flex the pickguard, that leads me to believe that there's probably a cold solder joint between the pots, likely one of the capacitor leads. Try re-flowing all the solder joints real quick before you send her off. I'd hate to see it get injured in shipping for something that's likely a simple home fix.

The problem with kill "button" vs. kill switch is that with the button you can only play the "off" on the beat, whilst with a "lever" switch you can put it in "off" position and play the "on" on the beat, like the intro to "Delivering The Goods" by Judas Priest. They played it with a Gibson SG or V with the neck volume at zero and using the normal switch as a kill switch.

They used Forstner bits on a drill press to "rout" that out. Telltale circular patterns with a centering dip. I would have followed it up with a trim router to clean it up a bit, but yeah...it works. Honestly, with the added problem of the tone pot being wonky and the questionable pickup wiring, it kind of looks like a garage mod, not a factory mod. I wish I was closer to ya, I'd clean that up for free, just cause it deserves to be helped. Adding a second pickup would not only require more woodworking and clean-up, but also causes the problem of having to add back a 3 way switch to the whole mess (probably at the cost of the kill button).

    • @wrencormier513

I plan on my next guitar being a baritone. Just not sure what model I want it to be kind of leaning towards a Telecaster but if something else catches my eye first like a decent SG or Stratocaster who knows. To bad the Wilshire or the Crestwood isn't offered as a baritone. That's actually what I'm interested in after I get my Casino. I like how they put that string up top. Only thing I see if you'd do something similar on a LP is the Gibson logo would have to move where you'd usually have Les Paul model and Les Paul would have to be either left off or put on the truss rod cover. Though I thing that tuning key would look like a zit on a forehead . If Gibson really had to put something other than a round input jack plate they should've gone with a diamond shaped one. Or install it on the side the wing. I always wondered why they didn't put the input a off the side the wing but at an angle 10 or 15 degrees from parallel. Isn't there a model or brand of guitar named Pacifica. As far as that rout by the neck they ssf should've put a pickup there. Maybe routed space in the cavity below the bridge to move the controls back towards the tip of the wing and installed the flanges below the pickups . Would save a little room using the space where the volume would be if the put one of those switched pots to activate the flanger. Or get a switch off alone away from the kill switch. The kill switch obviously was working quite well since everytime you put down the pickguard you loss signal. I wonder why they didn't put tuners like a firebird has. Don't know if it's the strings or drop D or a combination that guitar sounds pretty heavy. A good friend who can play anything he sets his mind to has a 7 string but his tones n most of what he plays aren't as deep.

I have an original '58 style Gibson 7 string V. This thing looks like they took all the remaining factory botched/damaged bodies from the original 7 string run and let kids throw these together for a quick promo.

Epiphone is coming out the Matt Heafy Origins 7-string that will be in 25.5" scale length. You should get one of those when they release.

I like it alot. Had a couple of 7 strings over the years. I'm not into Djent metal or even old Korn or any of that, I just really like having that low B on there. I like classic metal, I had fun trying to throw in some lower riffs and such. I thought the original black and gold release from Gibson with the EMG's was quite exciting.

19k on the JB sounds about right. Longer bobbins = more wire to get around the bobbin = higher resistance.

I could be wrong but I think that Seymour Duncan uses green and bare are ground; red and white get soldered together and black goes to either a pickup selector or a slug on the volume or tone if only one pickup is installed with no toggle… yours has the black and red soldered together… could that be part of the grounding out issue?

I really dig those tuners... those came on my Epiphone Firebird Studio model that was a limited run for a few years there. Actually that's a REALLY solid guitar for the price point, and the satin finish is great... just worth noting.

You DID used to be able to buy the original Steinberger Gearless tuners on StewMac. I bought a set in about 2004 for my Firebird V because l didn’t much like the klunky, heavy old banjo tunes it came with. I think l paid about £100 shipped from the US. They tuned far better and rectified the Firebird’s slight tendency to neck dive. The original Steinbergers were much cooler, too. They didn’t have that ugly T-piece on the front to lock them off, just a knurled collar with a pair of flats you could tighten with a spanner. Just as effective, but far more elegant.

This string layout is our of the ordinary lol. Both my 7 string Schecters are offset. But for a Gibson Flying V, this is the only option lol

Needs the guy from the Rob Scallon video yelling “DJENT!” In the phone. Those 40-1 tuners are great on my 2015 Firebird… I don’t know why Gibson stopped using them a few years ago because putting regular tuners on moves the tuning pegs over enough to change the string angle.

ill give u a drop a for affort lol. which is the tuning that would be in if u kept the 6 strings standard than tuned the 7 to an a . I generally use ADADGBE for my 7 strings just for a fuller drop D sound. Its a bummer tho because i thought those epiphone versions would be cool to play even tho the scale length is to short. 25 1/2 isnt to bad if u play in standard, but im so use to 27' scale that having that 24 7.25 would feel awkward to me .

I'm by no means an experienced guitar tech but I have installed a couple of Seymour Duncan's in my personal instruments in the last couple of months. In my instances the white and red wires were soldered together and taped off, the black was the "hot" wire and the green and ground wires got gtounded to the back of a pot. Looks like the white wire is used as the "hot" wire here with the black and red taped off. Could that be posing an issue?
