Reverse headstocks don’t increase string tension. To increase string tension you either need to have a longer scale length or use a thicker gauge string. The section of string past the nut to the tuners doesn’t effect the scale length.
@@SiTheShireHorse thanks. You just shattered a possibly unnecessary belief I was holding on to. Always looking for lower tuning with standard 10-46 slinky. I had that once with a string through Hagstrom.
@@erikkorhonen While you didn't specifically say increase you definitely implied it with saying reverse headstocks are better for getting good string tension because it puts the bass strings on the longer side of the headstock. When referring to strings (which you described as 'it puts the bass one') the word longer means the same thing as increase. With that being said I'll say this again the section of string past the nut to the tuners doesn't have any effect on the strings tension.
@@SiTheShireHorse nope didnt even imply it , I said better, that doesnt equal increased automatically . and Im still correct , a reverse heastock on a 6 per side tuners headstock will have better string tension then a normal headstock.
While I don't dig the sound... Trogly, you are literally holding one of my two dream guitars. A yellow sparkle Les Paul and an ALL WHITE explorer with reverse headstock. I assumed it would be easier to get Gibson to do the sparkle before they'd do an all white.
I like the larger guitar body. Not that this is, but I wish it was more common to scale the body up when you go baritone like on the buckethead (or even without it being baritone, like this one). I'm a big dude (6'5 260lbs) and normal sized guitars can look like toys on me.
I wanna take that body, cut it down to size, redo it with a neon coat, and white crackle paint, make a cool truss rod cover, and do the headstock too. Then some cool logo like you said.
daaaaaaaaang, Trog. i hope my playing skills can get to this level. hard to watch sometimes, when you're new and know there is a LONG long road ahead to get to anything decent. well played, tho, ma man. well played.
If the price on this was decent enough it would be worth spending a little money to upgrade the pickups and pots and put on a heavier bridge and tailpiece. How were the frets? Were they level?
Mine finally arrived. It's a little different from this though. It's 27 inches roughly tip-to-tip, so regular Explorer size, and the top has a black binding around it. It actually looks really nice. Sounds good too. Only downside is it has a few sharp frets and a scrape on the headstock. Hopefully I'll get a partial refund for that though. Otherwise it's awesome.
Have you checked out the new digital whammy bars. I haven't seen that much about them, but they are supposed to stay in tune a lot better. Have a good day.
I think it sounds pretty damn good! Trogly is a great guitar reviewer, he's able to make the tones come through nicely without adding too much fluff to the playing.
I personally really like the sound of these pickups. They have bells 🤩compared to the very similar Squier HBs, they are light simply because of the aluminum base plate. Unfortunately, really poor material, the screw thread tears very easily when the instrument is dropped!😕
Unfortunately nobody ever tries to talk into a chibson pickup on their reviews, but they're microphones. The instant feedback is more of what changes when you swap them not so much the tone.
@@snap-off5383 I will test that when mine arrives. I'm not convinced they are actually microphones. There are tons of different 'Chibson' manufacturers and sellers judging by the amount of fakes on Ali Express. I definitely plan on fitting new pickups when it arrives anyway.
@@Molotov_Milkshake They're not "microphones" i.e.basically a small speaker wired up to work in reverse. Thy're "microphonic" they've not had their copper coils "wax potted" so the coils themselves vibrate and cause signal on the line. Thus you can talk into them, and hear yourself through the amp. Wax potting stops pickups from doing that.
@@snap-off5383 Aren't you just describing a pickup there though? I mean literally, that's all a pickup is...wires wrapped around magnets lol. SMG proves a lot of this mythology to be bullshit.
@@Molotov_Milkshake No, i'm describing two different types of pickups: Wax potted and not wax potted. The former has great "silence" when not playing' the other acts like a microphone and amplifies every vibration in the guitar whether or not it was from the strings. So when you try to make "silence" in a loud concert with it you get instant screaming feedback that you can't stop since you can only stop the strings from vibrating, not the coils inside the pickups. Wax does that job well. SMG hasn't debunked that basic fact at all. He'll confirm it.
I guess you must have got this from the same guy that made that guitar that I call my Chibson Fung, which is a non-reverse Firebird III with 2 P90's and a wrap-around tailpiece, volute & all. The even guy sent me "in progress" photos and not a "Gibson" in sight.

People are always so quick to crap on inexpensive pickups, but inexpensive doesn't always automatically mean bad. I thought those pickups sounded really good; and actually better than a lot of more expensive humbuckers I've heard.
Its not the "sound" or "tone" that is realy different between good ones and junk ones, the differences are output amplitude and tendency to feedback or be microphones when talked into.
@@snap-off5383 I’m well aware. My point is that the qualities that people prize in many pickups (vintage PAFs for example), are due in large part to characteristics like low output, a certain degree of microphonics, unequal windings on the two coils. And these are some qualities that are inherent in cheap pickups. Yet, people’s first impulse is to “upgrade” them to something expensive to get the qualities of vintage PAFs, instead of just using their ears to compare. In which case they might realize that the stock pickups might already have those qualities they would be chasing in a new set. Back in the 80s everyone thought higher gain meant better, so everyone was swapping out pickups for overwound, high output pickups that actually sounded like crap because they had no clarity or definition. Nowadays a lot more people want a more vintage sound, but they still don’t realize, that they may not need to swap out pickups. They just do it without thought.
@@darwinsaye Microphonics have never helped tone. Have you ever had a set of bad unwaxed pickups? The only use for them would be if you want to record some nasty feedback and are having trouble getting your other pickups to feed back in your apartment at low volumes. Also good if you struggle with pinch harmonics, if you're even close on those, they'll feed back and stabilize on "almost good enough" pinch harmonic technique where waxed potted pickups won't resonate and synchronize with the harmonic.
@@snap-off5383 Well we’ll have to put it down to personal taste, particular kinds of music played, and technique. I’ve been playing for 45 years and owned dozen’s of guitars of all types, and I prefer to have some microphonics in my pickups, which has always been controllable with playing technique. I don’t play high gain or metal, so I don’t need to have dark overwound pickups so I can keep wild feedback under control. Over the years, I’ve owned a few guitars from the high gain 80s era and never kept them because I never gelled with the dark sterile tone and how they rob my amps of clean headroom. I’ve got a few vintage guitars with varying degrees of microphonics to the pickups, but only one of them was bad enough that I had to give it a light potting job. And I’ve got a couple of newer guitars with inexpensive stock pickups that sound great and don’t need any “upgrading”. I’m not saying there are no bad pickups out there, I’m just saying, too many people listen to the mob voice saying you automatically have to replace stock pickups, instead of listening with their ears first. As an example, this guitar of Trogly’s, being a Chibson, probably has $25-$30 pickups in it, but they sounded good. Clear and articulate, likely microphonic, but he wasn’t struggling in the demos with feedback. If I owned it, I’d be keeping them in.
Just bought one of these on Ebay, because I love the all white look. It's definitely going to be a guitar I use live. Gibson/Epiphone really shot themselves in the foot not making this guitar themselves. 🤘🤘
@@zippyclips346 I do. It's a lot better than I thought it would be. Mine has the burst on the head stock and the nut is a matching white. Thought I'd need to adjust the intonation, but it came damn near perfect. (Came with some heavy gauge strings, I actually had to put on "Lighter" 56-13's to get it into C Standard) No dead frets either. Pickups were not micro-phonic, to my surprise, as well. Holds tuning well. It's a chunky boy for sure. The only durpy looking thing about it, is the fret markers. Pretty sure they used a marker, and they are not lined up well. 🤣 It's def on par with a 1k Epiphone, other than the fret markers. I'll try to make a video with it in the not too distant future.

reverse head stocks are actual better for getting good string tensions since it puts the bass one on the longer side of the head stock
@@SiTheShireHorse when did I say increase? If you are gonna attempt to correct someone , please understand what you are replying to first
@@erikkorhonen While you didn't specifically say increase you definitely implied it with saying reverse headstocks are better for getting good string tension because it puts the bass strings on the longer side of the headstock.
So spooky
Now up grade it with top notch gear, from the bridge to the tuners and wires the whole 9
The Chinese guitar sellers on ebay do an incredible custom art job [delivered] for what it would cost for of a good pair of pickups 😁😁😁
Ordering is a big risk though
Yeah and you can talk with them!!!
While I don't dig the sound... Trogly, you are literally holding one of my two dream guitars. A yellow sparkle Les Paul and an ALL WHITE explorer with reverse headstock. I assumed it would be easier to get Gibson to do the sparkle before they'd do an all white.
I think the Lizzy Hale's body is smaller than a normal Explorer body. More like an Explorer Pro. Much smaller bottom point radius.
@trogly your playing has improved dramatically. Nice job
I like the larger guitar body. Not that this is, but I wish it was more common to scale the body up when you go baritone like on the buckethead (or even without it being baritone, like this one). I'm a big dude (6'5 260lbs) and normal sized guitars can look like toys on me.
I hope there is an "oversized" series in the future too! The guitars always seem more "lively" for some reason
I’d like to see a review of the Dean Zelinsky La Voce with the thin body please.😊
Some firewood just in time for winter
I wanna take that body, cut it down to size, redo it with a neon coat, and white crackle paint, make a cool truss rod cover, and do the headstock too. Then some cool logo like you said.
Sounds great-I suspect it’s basswood which sound great for rock😎
daaaaaaaaang, Trog. i hope my playing skills can get to this level. hard to watch sometimes, when you're new and know there is a LONG long road ahead to get to anything decent. well played, tho, ma man. well played.
wow some of these are SO cool. one of the explorers (ETA: the ghost horse) and both these white-out ones!
It looks great that being said that control placement and that nut 🤣👏
Hearing you play Skyhunter on this thing was definitely a fun surprise
You'd enjoy the intro to this video then! ruclips.net/video/yact_uCeizg/видео.html&ab_channel=TheTrogly%27sGuitarShow
Nice to know this model is available in left handed ! 😉
oh man im so happy you made this video. this is genuinely one of my favorite guitars of all time and im so sad it never saw the light of day!
If the price on this was decent enough it would be worth spending a little money to upgrade the pickups and pots and put on a heavier bridge and tailpiece. How were the frets? Were they level?
I even showed a Gibson rep that was at guitar center but 3 years later nothing lol
Being digital - I'd hope so! haha
Curious if out against an explorer, if you get more low end out of the Chibson ???
I think it sounds pretty damn good! Trogly is a great guitar reviewer, he's able to make the tones come through nicely without adding too much fluff to the playing.
Brendon Small!!! Home Movies is my fav show of all time
I personally really like the sound of these pickups.
I really do want one. As long as it doesn't say Gibson or Epiphone on the head.
This video proves buying a "regular" guitar and awesome amp will make you sound good enough
Let's be real, guitar is like 70% skill, 20% equipment and 10% looking cool.
I guess you must have got this from the same guy that made that guitar that I call my Chibson Fung, which is a non-reverse Firebird III with 2 P90's and a wrap-around tailpiece, volute & all.
The even guy sent me "in progress" photos and not a "Gibson" in sight.
nope, this was a seller on eBay. It wasn't a custom order although my words definitely made it seem that way
I have a picture of it before I ruined it lol it was really close to that one but I'd love to see it without the reverse headstock
Improved pots/pickups and a better cut bone nut and that thing would be epic!
I guess that Trogly could use this guitar to try the Gibson pickups if he ever wants to do that Gibson Pickup Shop video
How long did it take to get to you from China? I ordered a Steinberger GM knockoff Sept. 29th. It was supposedly shipped on Oct. 3rd and finally got a shipping update on Oct. 22nd that it is in Shanghai. No updates since. Ordered from a seller on DHGate.
Good. I hope you don't get it. Bad move contributing to foreign theft of American intellectual property.
@@danc.732 Do you have any idea how many products you have in your home were made in China??? Want me to buy American? Give me $5000 and I'll get a real Steinberger.
@@JoeR203 Give you $5k? No, earn it.
And exactly zero of the Made in China items in my home are illegal knockoffs of American inventions or designs.
Try putting your tracking number into other package trackers. Some of them let you see the updates on the Chinese side of things though you'll have to put it through a translator. I ordered a purple left handed King V from china off of Ebay on October 6th and ebay says it should get here at the end of December but the various trackers says, it's supposed to arrive by November 11th and give me updates that don't appear on ebays tracking. Yours might be arriving around the same time.
@@ViviSectia I've done that. They all pretty much show what China Post shows. One site said it should arrive Oct. 24 - Nov. 1. Once the 24th got here, they changed it to Oct. 30 - Nov. 18. The Pony Express from the 1800s was faster.
It sounds pretty good to me,overdrive and clean.
Yeah ffn aggressivvv
How do I get one? I want to match my Snowfalcon.
It seems to me that you really connected with & had a great time playing this guitar! I also must say that I think it sounds better (clean & dirty) than some of the thousands of dollar guitars you have reviewed. This recently happen to me as well. I ordered a really cheap guitar(unfinished) from China and built it. Turns out to be 1 of the best spending unique guitars in my collection..! Go figure. Just goes to show that you can spend a lot or very little and you could get a great playing, great sounding guitar.
Face it... most parts on guitars are made over seas and then the big companies just put their names on them..! Same stuff..
Enjoy it!
Nice guitar. It does need a "Snowhorse" headstock decal.
Welcome everyone! Any sign of Hk or the Sgt?
🙂
Greetings Adrian R. I’m late and I’m retired from the commenting battle. After 50 firsts Chloe and I have laid down our keyboard.
@@sgt.grinch3299 cheers Sgt, I salute your service 🫡
I've been looking at this chibson for months , looked pretty cool
More Lord Djemo models! Lord Djemo the parody band of the Troglodytes! Djemo the Scottish Lord.
I have Non chib version one that I made lol I was still learning how to paint back when I did it but now I'm a lot better and will make it as close to the prototype without the reverse of course it's kinda cool but the cartoon version wasn't reversed anyway
It's a tribute to the greatest guitar in the world!!
Trogly my friend, you should play metal in all your demos!!!
I second that !!
fun fact no one has finished this video yet
That won't stop that "great video" comments though
Lol 🎃
HAHAHA
I have

This reminds me of the fuzzy white ZZ Top guitars. 😂
good call! ruclips.net/video/9WvDtmpyAxo/видео.html
I have Cort VX2X that the shape looks like explorer but it is small. I have big body and tall. Maybe i would love to having an extra size explorer model to my arsenal
A 27 or 28 inch scale would be amazing :O
To be honest I’d rather buy a chibson nock off with the logo than a Gibson because of the price difference
I found this guitar....in an old vid it's on a recent search he shows on a website..was able to find this EXACT guitar...cheaper then I thought lol.
that explorer need aluminium trussrod cover to match the burst
I had a fee chibson LPs just for fun..one sucked bad..the other.. unreasonably nice.lollike for the price i paid it was actually nice..all it needed was new frets an the thing was a beast even the pups some how..some way..where sick..they where about 9.7k. and 8.5 ish..so it all depends who makes it and at what plant
I'd take it, be a cool mod prod. If "they" did make it I'd like to see the edge the same color, not too dark.
Where do I get one?
Maybe you wont get a lot of use out of it but have you considered a loop pedalbor board so you get do lead over your rhythm.
Have you got it?
