    i have this roof rack,it is good but that thing is so heavy.One thing i am really happy about it is the powdercoat paint,really good one.My solution for the rear bumper was a OLYMPIC 4X4 FRAME COVER,lightweight and like 130$CAD.Good rack for the money.

      @@TechKNOWlogyReview I cut the out holes in the factory bumper on my girlfriends JKU wrangler. When I took the brackets off the corners were really floppy and I was worried, but once I got the roof rack brackets through it, it is actually just as rigid as factory!
      As long as you cut your top holes in the bumper the exact size of the tubes (2" diameter hole saw), it keeps the bumper from wobbling around at all. I just had to take my time and make sure I got them in the exact right spot.
      For anyone wanting to make it work with the factory bumper, once you drill your holes and cutout the bottom, you will need to build the rack back to front. This is opposite of what the instructions say, because you will want to put the rear bumper with brackets through it on first, not last. I learned that one the hard way and basically built the rack twice....

      @@GDLutz any tips on finding the exact right spot?

    • @GDLutz
      @GDLutz 3 года назад

      @@stevej1691 I followed a video I found on RUclips called “Jeep Wrangler JK Barricade Roof Rack with factory bumper” posted by Tom Sidner
      Basically I took the rear bumper off and put the brackets on the frame and used cardboard to make a template for where to cut the bumper.
      It’s a little tricky getting the bumper and brackets back on together after you cut the holes, but I think it turned out really nice looking and saved us from buying a rear bumper or drilling into the body for the other style rear mounts.

    Hey, i just installed the same rack on my 4 door jk, i am curious, does your rack sway side to side? I installed everything per the instructions, tightened everything. The back of the rack still sways about 2 inches side to side. Front to back it is solid, but side to side not so much.

    • @TechKNOWlogyReview
      @TechKNOWlogyReview  3 года назад

      Hmmm. Not on mine. Every year or so I tighten screws but it's usually solid and I've never noticed any sway.

      @@TechKNOWlogyReview thank you for your reply, yeah so i ended up tightening everything a lot harder and now it is nice and solid. I was originally cautious to not tighten too hard and bend the pipes.

    How much time would say it takes to remove and then re-install the rack? I wonder if it's feasible to install it just before a camping trip, and then removing it after.

    • @TechKNOWlogyReview
      @TechKNOWlogyReview  5 лет назад

      Tony I wouldn’t recommend that. It’s a little time consuming time be temporary. I don’t even think I would do that between seasons.

      @@TechKNOWlogyReview First, thank you for always providing quick feedback!
      By the way, I didn't mean to completely disassemble it. I'm thinking of removing the front A pillar bolts (I can see there are 4 on each side), and the back frame bolts (I think there are 4 on each side?), and lifting the rack up.

    Quick question. The tech specs says it holds up to 300lbs. I I have the smittybilt tent and that's already 100lbs. That only leaves 200lbs for me and my wife ??

    • @TechKNOWlogyReview
      @TechKNOWlogyReview  5 лет назад +1

      I actually use the Smittybilt XL so even heavier, and my wife and I add another few hundred but I’ve had no issues.

    • @Tony-ue8fo
      @Tony-ue8fo 5 лет назад +2

      I believe 300 pounds is the max weight while driving. Static weight should be 600 to 800 lbs.(that's how it is with other racks, please double check)

      Yes - And I like it better all the time. Not much noise, looks great and VERY functional. AND I found that the Smittybilt XRC rear bumper (which was only $300 I think) fits PERFECTLY and looks and works GREAT. VERY pleased. I'm glad I saved the money instead of doing the pricey ones.

    • @TechKNOWlogyReview
      @TechKNOWlogyReview  5 лет назад +1

      Ok so from the top of the roof to the top of the rack frame is 3 3/4”. BUT the removable cross bars (that you attach stuff to) are a little higher at 5 3/4” from Jeep top. Hope that helps!

    Hey thanks for the great informative video, might be getting this same rack and tent but afraid jeep will not clear the garage door, could you tell me how tall is your jeep from bottom to top of the tent latter to see if my jeep will clear my garage. Thanks!!!
    Set up looks great!

    • @BrentJacksonChannel
      @BrentJacksonChannel 5 лет назад +2

      Good question! I've lived in 2 garages since getting it and BOTH of them are about 1" too short for the rack AND the tent at the same time. BUT I found a workaround. All I do is disconnect the ladder from the top of the tent and I can pull in just fine. Then I put it back on when I go camping. Takes 5 minutes. Good solution.
