Great video. I am about to attempt this myself, hoping to also do this with a slightly bigger sized hole on top so I can place a rubber grommet in the hole to 'trim' it out a little more.

This is a good guide! I'm a pretty handy person, but I overthink some things, and this installation was one of them. Was able to use this method to get my rear brackets installed, so I'm glad I came across this.

Just finished mine after an 8 hour day doing tree work thank god for this video wish I didnt box out the lines tho with sharpie looks like I’m spray painting bumper next

Thanks for the video Tom, helped me do the cutting on my rear stock bumper. However I did notice a few things. I installed my rack without bumper. Left it through a big rainstorm and a day or to. When I came to do the bumper install and cutting, I found the two J shaped bars that bolt onto the frame had about a cup or to of water inside. The welds at the bottom of the pipe to the lowest plate are water tight. We all need to drill a hole in the bottom to let it drain. Also, cutting the bumper that much makes a dirt and water scoop behind tire. Im trying to think of a steel cover design the can screw into the J bar and act as a mudflap and cover the open hole in the bumper behind the tire. I like the rack though. Solid! Anyway Thanks again. Go drill two tiny holes see how much brown rusty water comes out.
That's an excellent idea. I am going to check mine tomorrow and dill a couple holes if needed.

Excellent advice and video. I returned the aftermarket bumper after seeing this. One improvement: I first cut a 2" hole in the corrugated template then cut a slot so the circle hugs the rack mount for a more precise marking.

Any suggestions on how to do this without a hole saw? Was planning on maybe just drilling a bunch of tiny holes and cutting it after but not sure if it’ll work. I can get a holesaw but I’m a broke college student and would rather not

Following the installation of the roof rack I wonder how the bumper is attached to the frame?
The bumper attaches at the back. The rack keeps it in place on the sides

Yes the rack was good quality and held up well. The only issue I has was every six months, I had to tighten the rack bolts or it would get noisy (would creak). Not the bolts at the frame but the bolts that held the sections of the rack together.
Thank you very much for the video. Just completed the hole saw portion, about to bolt the bumper and rear mount into the frame now. For each side, you used the two included bolts on the front portion of the mounting rack- but what did you use for the rear portion? The part of the rack that sticks towards the rear of the vehicle that lines up with the holes in the Jeep frame as well? There aren’t threaded inserts on that portion of the Jeep frame so I’m not sure what to mount it with.

I did not attach the rear of the bracket. I use mine to carry kyacks and have had no issues. A roof top tent is pretty heavy so you may want to use all the attaching points. You may want to contact the manufacturer and ask them what they reccomend.
Hi Adam and Tom. I'm also looking to put a roof top tent on this rack. How did you all handle that rear portion with no threaded inserts?
@@calebvineyard9228 Op said he didnt need the extra weight capacity, so I figured something else out. I used the bolt plates that came with the kit you receive and I cut an extra V shaped cut out of the bumper on the rear of it so I could push my hand through the frame and hold the bolt plate while I screwed it in. Not sure how to better describe it, but I could send pics and show you more detailed if you'd like. Just lmk and I'll give you my email
So I was able to mount my full bracket using the front bolts. I took the bracket that came with frame and used duck tape to attach it prior to putting on the bumper. Then I used an Allen wrench just to line up the holes. I used duct tape instead of double sided tape so I could manipulate the bracket to line up the holes. The passenger side was the hardest as there was only a half of cm of clearance and had to have someone push on the bumper so I could get the front bolt in!!!
So you just removed the angle support on the corners of the factory bumper and did not replace. Is the bumper secure enough with out those supports? Great video
I was a little worried about that also but the bumper is just as solid as it was before.
Completely agreed. I also had this concern, but as the roof rack also passes through the bumper it helps to hold it in place, still very secure.
Did you put the bumper brackets back on somehow? Those brackets held the bumper to the fender well..If you cut out the bolt sleeves..what holds bumper tight?
The rack holds the bumper in place, in place of the brackets.
Hi I have the same Barricade roof rack in my 2012 Jeep Wrangler. It was installed and the bumper cover was never replaced. My issue is that the bumper has no holes in it where the bumper cover is supposed to be mounted back to the bumper. Am I supposed to drill holes there to get bolts into the nuts that are built into the cover?? I’m just not seeing a way to do that. Can you recommend a way to mount the cover back onto the bumper after making the cutouts for the Barricade rack???

To be honest I do not remember how the bumper attached at the back. I no longer have the jeep. Had to trade it in for a pickup truck because we are moving and remodeling. If I had to guess I think you may be missing some brackets at the back for the bumper.
Hi, Tom. Did you attach all four bolts to the rack support? I don't see how to get the 12mm nut plates into the frame.
I only attached the 2 on each side. I think the only plate that came with my kit was the one you use if your mounting into the body.
Never mind. I stuck it in there with double-sided tape and got the forward 12mm bolt in place. Should be plenty strong enough.
Could you please explain what you did here? I want to mount a RTT to the top of the frame in the coming months so I’d like to have more than just the two mounting bolts on each side.
Could you give an update on this install? How has everything held up over 2 years?
Yes, I no longer have the jeep but when I traded it in (after a year and a half) the thing was still as solid as the day I put it on.

How is the wind noise?
I have big tires and do not notice any wind noise over my tire noise.
How about sharing the dimensions of the hole to cut instead of all of what you did?
Can you share dimensions from back of bumper to center of hole and side bumper to center of hole
Does it rattle?
I have to tighten up the bolts about once a year to keep it from creaking. Other than that, no.
Get rid of all the plastic on the jeep, your jeep will be happier.
