RIP Chita Rivera. This very scene is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear about her and one of the reasons that Sweet Charity is one of my very favorite musicals!
OMG!!! this is first class real talent, these ladies are the best of the best!! Each of these woman are at the top of thier game, but that PAula Kelly and her power house execution is unmatched!
One of the finest pieces of choreography til this day. Paula and Chita definitely pushed Shirley in these scenes to brilliant she definitely holds her own. It's also amazing seeing Beyonce paying respect to Mr. Fosse in her put a ring on it video. These 3 women were a class and each brilliantly chosen for their roles in this masterpiece ❤❤❤❤
These amazing ladies love them. Ms. Paula Kelly so wonderful dancer. Her legacy will live in all dancers today. Chita River too and Shirley McLaine. They are all wonderful
RIP Chita Rivera. This is the second greatest rooftop dance sequence ever filmed (the first being America from 1962's West Side Story, and I always thought Fosse was paying it a slight homage here) by three of the best dancers ever to grace Broadway. All but MacLaine are gone now, which makes me sad, but also grateful we still have their wonderful performances preserved in this clip. Chita was especially fab in this number. Que dios te bendiga, doña.
how on earth can they run and jump like that in heeled shoes , whats the secret ??? running on the toes ? stong ankles ? how do you not roll your ankles?? omfg it was such a good dance number at the end
You try to keep a decently turned out leg during jumping and falling, and then you try to land on your toes and not your heel. Also, always a good plie (bending downwards when falling) helps 😊
The black women was mesmerizing and energetic. Something about the way she moved, couldn’t keep my eyes off her. The energy she exhibited was just wow. She did the routine pure justice
All wonderful but I really loved Paula Kelly. This movie is such an amazing mix of joy and sadness. The ending always breaks me and uplifts at the same time. Amazing.
Such a great staging of this fun musical. I’m glad that it is getting the recognition it deserves - the fosse dances are awesome. But also the performances are fantastic.
Hey, would you consider adding Paula Kelly's name to the description? Her performance in this scene is outstanding, and she's the only actress of the three that's left out. Cheers!
When Hollywood pretends its Broadway by having well-known stars sing, we also suffer. I remember listening to the soundtrack of the Camelot movie and wondering why parts of it sucked. It's because Broadway singers always excel, but not all Hollywood performers. Some have agents who leverage their star into a TV musical. Ugh!
Is it wrong I danced this at seven? I got none of the story but all of the joy. Thank you Chita, Paula and Shirley. A girl couldn’t have asked for better role models. Shine on all three of you on any plane you choose to inhabit. 💫💖
watching this right after the Big Spender kind of makes me sad. They look so happy and lively in this piece. Hope they got some better lives just like they wanted.
LIke the greatest musical scenes in film, everything is superlative, sound, tune, lyrics, dancing, direction, acting, costume, and the rooftop setting. What did I leave out? Maybe if the rest of the film were as terrific as this, it would have become a movie staple like Sound of Music and Singin' in the Rain.
Such a great number. Im going to start by saying Im biased toward Chita. But to me her movement seems to be so perfect from snaps and timing and body positions. I know its splitting hairs at this level. ❤
It is shameful, unprofessional , and downright lazy that you neglected to include the great Paula Kelly: one YEAR later. One would hate to assume the reason why a site dedicated to show tunes didn’t bother to find out who this brilliant performer picked by BOB FOSSE is not credited in your bio. Do BETTER. RIP Queen Paula Kelly and Queen Chita Rivera.
A Broadway number perfectly translated for film and performed by a trio of knockout triple threats. I wish today's film directors of musicals would learn from Fosse how to film and edit dance, as It seems like a vanished skill.
Why on Earth every time there are Hispanic/Latino characters singing in an American musical, the tune and dance are *Spanish?* It's like putting cowboys to dance Morris, or Ceili, or Highlands dance! Moreover, when the Spanish arrived to the Americas, Flamenco dance did not exist yet! How on Earth would Hispanic peoples have inherited it, if we became independent before that dance became popular in Spain? And... in Spain there are plenty of different popular/folkloric dances. Flamenco is just one of them.
😂 Why shouldn't they dance at all? Beautiful dance, beautiful movements... Would it be easier for you if they danced the Hungarian dance? Or Irish? Or Russian? This dance reminded me of Kan Kan. There are also elements of Spanish dance. Don't you have to dance Kan-kan too?
Rest in Heaven, Paula and Chita 💃🏽💃🏿💔. I always admire your dancing skills.
I second that.
Those three ladies worked their buns off to get Fosse's choreography down. But they are such pros the work doesn't show.
RIP Chita Rivera. This very scene is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear about her and one of the reasons that Sweet Charity is one of my very favorite musicals!
this is one of those scenes you have to watch over and over again to focus on one person
OMG!!! this is first class real talent, these ladies are the best of the best!! Each of these woman are at the top of thier game, but that PAula Kelly and her power house execution is unmatched!
Every song in this musical was a masterpiece.
Absolute genius what a number 😊

Helene was actress Paula Kelly, R.I.P.
And I think she is the best dancer here!
Also a fabulous dancer and performer - Kelly, MacLaine and Rivera made one powerhouse trio, exuding delight.
@@coloraturaElise - I think Chita had more full range and flourish to her moves. Maybe we see what we look for.
Thank you!

Yes❣️🙏🏾
I think you’re right. It was a chance to finally get the best of Chita Rivera’s dancing on film.
how on earth can they run and jump like that in heeled shoes , whats the secret ??? running on the toes ? stong ankles ? how do you not roll your ankles?? omfg it was such a good dance number at the end

Shirley MacLaine is the sole survivor of this trio.
The black women was mesmerizing and energetic. Something about the way she moved, couldn’t keep my eyes off her. The energy she exhibited was just wow. She did the routine pure justice
Her name is Paula Kelly. May that Queen along with Queen Chita Rivera rest in peace and power.
And I just figured out that she was the youngest out of the 3
All wonderful but I really loved Paula Kelly. This movie is such an amazing mix of joy and sadness. The ending always breaks me and uplifts at the same time. Amazing.
I couldn't agree more!
more energy in this scene than in some entire movies!!
Three magnificent actresses, dancers and singers! Thank you ladies!❤❤❤
The Queen of Broadway..Chita Rivera..RIP
Such a great staging of this fun musical. I’m glad that it is getting the recognition it deserves - the fosse dances are awesome. But also the performances are fantastic.
Chita Rivera….WHAT a force of nature!

Yes, it's a shame to name check Shirley and Chita while leaving out Paula
One of my favorite movies..RIP Chita Rivera ❣️🙏🏾
Special thanks to all credits who created this cinematic masterpiece which will never repeat again.

Brilliant ladies! Brilliant Fosse!
Shirley MacLaine looks like she is just having fun.
MacLaine is a national treasure.

Work it girls🎉
The sets choreography score performances everything!
The stamina! 😮
Helene is played by the incomparable Paula Kelly.
Thank you! why wasn't her name added?
@@Infoseeker6482 I was thinking the same thing. 🙄Paula Kelly was wonderful in this film!
You just couldn't avoid being disrespectful and not include Paula Kelly's name in the description. She was the actress who portray Helene.
We need a Paula Kelly documentary ❤❤❤❤
So wonderfully perfect
Please add in Paula Kelly to your video description as the actress who played Helene. Thank you
@TUNEMusicalMoments You forgot to credit Paula Kelly as Helene. Please update. Thanks!
Magnificent!!!
You didn't bother to put Paula Kelly's name in your blurb? ???????????
Rest in Peace Chita Rivera!
RIP Chita Rivera and Paula Kelly.
Please add *Paula Kelly* as Helen in the caption. She deserves her flowers being mentioned in this as well!!!!
Finally a quality upload!
Such a great number. Im going to start by saying Im biased toward Chita. But to me her movement seems to be so perfect from snaps and timing and body positions. I know its splitting hairs at this level. ❤
PAULA kELLY was Helene and her name should have been included with Chita and Shirley.

The world just got a little bit darker today...
RIP Chita Rivera

RIP Chita 🥀

RIP Chita Rivera
Very nice 👑 and very very very good 🥕
I legit believe the direction of this was for Chita to show us she indeed could and should have been Anita in the movie.
Nothing wrong with Rita Moreno, either, though.
Mrs. Levenson's early career? Lady Grantham's mother was wild in her youth! 😄
Блестящая Паули!
Paula Kelly.
Is this the same set that was used for "West Side Story's" America number,
Who was the best dancer of the three?.... I'll go ahead and say it,,,,Chita
RIP Chita Rivera 30th Jan 2024
Maybe they could be dancers on Broadway.
wspaniałe
She looks like Madame Medusa!
Isn't this choreo amazing?!? If you like it put a ring on it (ironically giggles)
West Side Story moment
fosse fosse fosse shades of west side story.
А это ШИРЛИ МАККЛЕЙН???😊
Is that Shirley McClain
Seriously, it's 2022 and you can't even credit the black actress (Paula Kelly)?
All I can hear, is prince singing, "just like my mother, she's never satisfied....". This was the start of the end of America!
dance hall girls complaining about their hard, difficult lives by going up on the roof and ..... sing/dance.
Musicals
They want to get out, but that is the dream of any queer kid out there
They in their 60s when they film this i assume?
Uh. No.
Beyonce tried but could NEVA!

Depends on what country / region you're talking about. Puerto Rico and Cuba, for example, were Spanish colonies till the end of the 19th century.
