Shirley MacLaine is one heck of a triple threat--multi talented, effortlessly cool, and makes it all look so easy. What a joy she is to watch! I just love her.
I saw her one women show in Los Angeles back in the early 1980s and remember this very well. A superb performer and dancer I consider myself fortunate to see her in person.
I know now where Michael Jackson got his moves from: the best coreographers, Fosse, Wilson, Kidd, Holder..terrific McLaine and the dancers who accompanied her, they're just perfect.
A wonderful presentation of choreographic styles, and MacLaine nails them. If you think everyone in their mid-40s can do what she does, you haven't reached that age yet. :-D

Agree with ya. Seems that in the past actors had to be able to sing and dance too. They were so much better than what we have today and the standards were so much higher.
I love Bob Fosse and his choreography. My beloved folks attended high school with him in Chicago, and they were friends. Bob and my mom danced frequently danced together at “sock hops;” which may be where I got my love of dance, along with my musical grandfather. Shirley also uses some Fosse moves when she sings “I’m still Here,” in “Postcards from the Edge,” a must watch film and MacLaine performance.🎶❤️🎶
Shirley... Just a class act.. Sooo professional with a great show of timing and class acting. Shirley was always at the top of her game and always belted out a 100%. 45+ years here and still damned professional, classy and top notch. Love this lady...

Professional dancers like these are amazing. They spend years learning to do a very difficult thing with precision and accurate timing in order to make it look effortless. Yet they remain almost always anonymous to the people for whom they're performing.
I am in awe of them, OBXN. It takes dedication to be good. I once met a 19-year old ballerina who had dedicated her young life to dance, made it into the San Francisco Ballet and almost immediately her career was ended. All that work, focus and training lost in an injury.

Shirley has had a great career but she sacrificed her daughter on the altar of fame and fortune. It's very sad. Some people shouldn't have children.
I was fortunate enough to work in the USA for three years, and during that time I managed to see one of her shows. I have always like Shirley, but to see her perform live was simply mesmerising, the way she can move her body parts in different directions is incredible, it is as though her bones are not connected like a standard "Normal" person. The way she interprets the music is unique.

I always felt that movie was some of the best dancing Hollywood ever did, and Shirley was the star of it. I hope you enjoy it! Shirley was a dancer before she was ever a Hollywood actress - she originally wanted to be a ballet dancer, but she got too tall. I always admired, though, that she gracefully slid into acting, and never tried to fight the progress of time. She always found roles that suited her as she aged and she excelled in all of them!

Pretty sure Shirley said it correctly, just hard to hear. She had a right to be a bit winded. Fabulous dancing. For those who didn't know, MacLaine got her big Broadway break as a chorus dancer in Pajama Game, when she understudied Carol Haney. Haney was famous for never missing a show…until she did. Shirley went on, and a star was born. Sounds like a movie plot but absolutely true.
unfortunately haney had severe stage fright for some reason and i think even was a drinker but i have seen her dance and cant understand why cause shes awesome!!

Her thigh muscles are strong enough to walk a chain up them in a CONTROLLED fashion. That's strength and an a amazing knowledge of what your body can do and how to get it to do it. Dancers are amazing.
I LOVE Shirley MacLaine!!! I met her in 1975 when I bought her book "You Can Get There From Here'" . She was VERY nice. I talked to her for about 10 minutes after everyone else left the store. Then I saw her in concert in 1984 in San Francisco. GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!
I remember seeing snippets of this when she was on 60 minutes. It is such a treasure to see this in it's entirety. A wonderful mix of styles utilizing Sweet Georgia Brown. This, my friends, is entertainment!!!!

Probably older than 46; Hollywood & theatre didn't play that shi...; they always put their age back; makeup wigs danskin character shoes & stockings and a lot of hours in ballet...Shirley could have been 50 when she did this show...bottom line, you are RIGHT she is a BRILLIANT ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIMES...unfortunately, VERY RARE THESE DAYS...
What impresses me the most is her discipline. It was clear that she wouldn't much need her dancing skills in her 40s but she still maintened that physique which allowed her to do this presentation. I mean she couldn't know she would do this presentation, first she maintened the physique and then someone offered her to film this. Apart from that she was just working out and stretching on a regular basis in order to stay this fit. Just wow, what a will power.

It's simple, Shirley Mc Lane is a Goddess, that's all. I'm from Mexico city and the first movie I saw was Sweet Charity. I was in shock and I only was 14 years old. I stil love her. I know and I learned all the songs from the movie.
She was genuine triple threat: great singer, actress and dancer. Ah, and she was an amazing writer, wrote about twelve books or so. A traveler who was a great researcher of the paranormal. Her book Out on the Limb published in 1983, the same year she go the Oscar for her role in Terms of Endearment is still in print today.
When she came to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to do a one night show in a theater, she opened saying: Hello everybody!! I am Warren Beatty's sister!!! And we laughed and clapped!!!
I used to see THE BEAUTIFUL.....Shirley MacLaine......when I first moved out to Malibu from Boston......early to mid-80's....when I was accepted to Pepperdine U......!! She drove a Trans Am !!!!! SO COOL !!! I would often see her at Hughes Market.......Such a Cool Lady........She was sweet....talked to everyone who would approach her........!!!

Every time I watch this I love it even more. Five dancers and through the entire show your eyes never leave MacLaine...lovely form, body, talent.

It’s amazing how only relatively recently background dancers became integrated again, ethnically. For much of my life, they were always White or ambiguous, at least if they were featured enough so that they were identifiable.
