I saw this movie when it first came out. Shirley was at the peak of her career. I especially remember her in Woman Times Seven and Gambit with Michael Caine. A bit later an A Mule for Sister Sarah with Clint Eastwood.
I believe that Shirley Maclaine started out as a "gypsy," ( dancer in the chorus) Hitchcock supposedly discovered her and cast her in his film "That's the Trouble with Harry". A quirky little movie with no music and no dancing.
Happy birthday to Shirley MacLaine 4. 24 We thank you for a lifetime of your best. One can only imagine how demanding your choreography was Have the best day
Yours is the only comment that is plugged in. This film bombed because nobody wanted to see Shirley limp through the role Gwen Vernon originated on Broadway. She was a train crash that the editing made worse.
But why was this (seemingly perfect) piece on Broadway----- panned by critics? in NYC ..... Seems like a winner but was a bust on Bway with only 2 years of legs? Help me out....(???)
These clips have only convinced me that watching Sweet Charity would be so much cringe that I might jab bamboo skewers through my eardrums, and that saddens me since I usually really enjoy Bob Fosse movies.
After seeing Gwen Verdon do this on Ed Sullivan I can understand why the film bombed. Shirley is good, but Verdon is electric. Even Debbie Allen, Ann Reinking and Donna McKechnie danced it better in the rival than Shirley here. Shirley is best in I’m a brass band.
Actually, Bob Fosse directed the movie and Gwen Verdon was on set as asst choreographer. She worked side by side with MacLaine during rehearsals and filming. The Verdon influence in both dance and singing is unmistakable.
Real fur was popular until the late 70s. I remember a warehouse when I was little that sold racks of them and women would go crazy for them. It was a status symbol to have one. I could never get my head round it.😢
She was talented and soooooo gorgeous

Two Mules For Sister Sara, good movie

SM was cute, talented, and one of the best dancers in the world.
For my money Shirley Maclaine's performsnce in Sweet Charity is the Best Performance by an actress in a musical BAR NONE! She's Sensational!
So free spirited, expressive and unafraid, Shirley is an absolute legend 💖
Wow! She was a pretty good dancer!
yes and all that in heels
Between Fosse and Gwen Verdon working on this project, the only flaw here is that Verdon herself wasn’t starring instead of Shirley McClaine
I think Shirley had the spirit of Charity much better nailed
Did you see Gwen Verdon play Charity?
Surely you jest 🙄 Where was the dancing? You couldn't do this? LMAO 🤣
I sometimes clean the house, and this song gets stuck in my head, every since I was a young kid.
Total Hammed it! PERFECT!
LOVE IT. What a treat!!!!!!!

Waitin on me like he was the Maitre D!❤😊
Why do i suddenly want to go on a Carnival Cruise Line? 😈
Marvelous!
She's Gwen Verdon's clone down to the red hair. Not discounting her talent but that should have been Gwen's role.
First time to see her, she's very good , too... Gwen's a close CLONE to Shirley, but Shirley is a "One of a Kind"...
GWEN had that perfect edge that SM does not seem to have.... so much depth in Gwen Verdon. Not seemingly so with Ms Shirley.
How fun! 😊 Very talented Love most of all these numbers
I don't understand all this negative tripe. I thought it was a great movie.
Tariannya bagus
anybody know where i can get a top hat like that that flattens??
The girlfriend you always wanted
This is a masterpiece of film About the Greatest Empier ever. Napoleon
If Lucy had a sister.
Kathy Lee Gifford sang it way better in the South Park Elementary talent show lol

It's all Greek to them.
Your hosts play ethnic. Oh, he wasn't there.
She isn't vacuous, but he is, along with others.
When you're quick, you don't stop to ask directions.
Surface stuff.
Wife - "Nothing at all like that character."
A character in a movie. He played a real person.
The editing of this number is appauling.
Was 55 years ago... You know.
The editing is excellent
I couldn’t disagree more - I have no idea what those “reverse” shots are called but I saw them and they are amazing!
All of the furs gross me out. Shirley McClaine was a goddess, thoughl
Gwen Verdon should have had this role instead of mediocre shirley
Well.. Iall I see is Gwen. Movements, style, humor, all is her.
you're about 5 decades too late, buddy.

Yep, that's why it bombed. It's the most famously miscast part until Lucille Ball in Mame.
Absolutely not..whomever she is..
There's an awful lot of fur in this scene.

Is this for real? Or a montage?
Maybe it was eighteen.
Fixed false belief..
