    I love the way Michael strolled upright onto the stage and respectfully shook hands with Frank and Kathy Lee. The man is a class act and boxing legend. Interesting how Jerry felt (as we all did), that he’d have to go after Michael. As it turns out, Michael was the aggressor. This is a great and historic interview.

      Cooney was depressed and inactive, and hated boxing when he fought Spinks, his mind wasn't there. Google the article "Cooney was a beaten man before he got in the ring". It's interesting and so is Cooney's book.

    Spinks fought Cooney and Holmes before Tyson. Both Cooney and Holmes were great fighters in their day, but their day had passed. Predictable wins for Spinks. No one doubted the outcomes of those fights. So when it came time for Spinks to face Tyson he was woefully underprepared. And it showed. The man was terrified.

    Michael Spinks was one of the greatest light heavyweight champions of all time in the only light heavyweight champion to become heavyweight champion. For years I thought that Larry Holmes was robbed during the fight but as I watch it again and again and again year after year after year I realize that Michael Spinks just beat the crap out of Larry Holmes. I mean Michael Spinks didn’t beat up Larry Holmes necessarily but he hit him more often with better shots and so he won the title and everyone told Larry Holmes not to fight Michael Spinks and he didn’t listen and he admitted himself that he lost

    • @Mike-kv5pl
      @Mike-kv5pl 3 года назад +3

      Spinks won the first fight but he did not deserve the decision he got in the rematch. Holmes was robbed in the rematch.

    • @joeblough261
      @joeblough261 3 года назад +1

      I think Spinks won the 1st fight 100%, but I think Larry got screwed in the 2nd fight. That said, if Larry sucked it up and gone for the KO when it was right in front of him, he wouldn't have to worry about the judges. Maybe he was gassed, I don't know. Also, Michael Moorer was a Light Heavyweight Champion that became Heavyweight Champ. Also Roy Jones Jr. was LH Champ that won a Heavyweight title, although not the real/lineal title as Lewis was the man when RJJ beat Ruiz. Also, little tidbit is that Gene Tunney and Evander Holyfield both fought as Light Heavyweights (For Holyfield it was just his first 3-4 fights) and although they weren't champs, ended up winning the big cheese at Heavyweight.

      Holmes was still a very good fighter when Spinks fought him, albeit past his prime. Fought for title 2x years later and beat a prime Mercer. Spinks a top 5 light heavyweight champion of all time, so that's his real claim to fame. And I say that while absolutely detesting his boxing style and wanting Holmes to bash his brains in as a kid watching those fights.
