    We have about 6 ducks but we ringed them and they swim around our house happily, we do give them food time to time and they are sunbathing in our yard most of the time ❤

    Costs are a big one esp to keep them fed protected and healthy... I might vlog a similar, the message needs to get out for more responsible pet duck ownership.
    Thanks for spreading this info, I get worried about senseless duck buys. To me they are sentient precocious beings perfect for someone mature/working from home or semi retired creative with a garden to free range in with securable enclosures, home gardeners that needs help digging and controlling unwanted bugs... I would love to see most gardens have ducks instead of just dogs or cats. You cant compare how much better for the eco system and environment pet ducks are to cats and dogs, and they are just as engaging/lovable.

    New Duckling mom (have 4 that were already discarded) I have had them for a few days - noticed today that one of them is panting with her mouth open.

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you!! It’s partly because they don’t lay eggs, and partly because male ducks are so hormonal during mating season. People just don’t want to deal with it, and also most people already have more males than they want to begin with, so they won’t add more

    • @random22026
      @random22026 8 месяцев назад

      It's a shame, because--eggs and hormones aside--they are entirely charming, and need love, too! 💗💗@@DunkinDucks

    What happens with male ducks in the wild? 50/50 male female ratio and no artificial ratios made by duck owners. do some males just live solitary?
    separate question:
    could one keep a 100% male flock? would that work since there's no females to fight over?

    • @DunkinDucks
      @DunkinDucks  8 месяцев назад +6

      In the wild mating is just as brutal as it in for pet ducks, except without humans to interfere that results in female ducks literally being drowned by the males or getting injures on their head or neck. Ducks won’t live solitary in the wild, they usually try to pair up. It’s not so bad if you have just one male and one female usually, but if there’s 2 males on one pond then they see each other as competition and will be even more aggressive during mating season.
      According to Ducks Unlimited male ducks of most species are hunted/harvested much more often than females though, so that may bring more “balance” to nature I suppose.
      A group of pet male ducks would be called a “bachelor flock” and yes it is possible! It’s a great thing to consider, because if you can rescue an all male group you are truly making the world of a difference for a duck rescue. I will say though, I have friends with bachelor flocks and some of them get along fine while others have to separate the ducks into smaller enclosures during mating season (which is over 1/2 the year) or they will fight and injure each other. It may also be harder to integrate new ducks into an already established bachelor flock, but that will depend on individual temperaments too
