Pirate_of_Oakland I think Georges is what you'd call a real fan. I used to hate the Steelers because they always beat my Cowboys. But, if you're a real fan, you can't help but extol the greatness that is/was the Steel Curtain and that team from the 70's. Still, IMO, the greatest of all time. No respect to Lombardi and his Pack, but I think that Steelers team was the best ever. They had to get past the great Dolphins and Cowboys teams of that decade to be named Team of the Decade and to me, that says it all.

I've been a Steeler fan since I was a kid (1970), but I respected the HELL out of the Raiders. The 70' s rivalry between those 2 teams was far more intense than any other in the NFL, before or since. They were fighting for league supremacy back then, & I am grateful that I was there to witness it in person !!
I wish the NFL could find someone with the passion the Sabols had for portraying American Football the way that they did, if they had not already. It wasn't just capturing hard hits and cool plays. They elevated the game to the levels of an art form. I mean, a POEM about the OAKLAND RAIDERS. Of all the NFL teams, they are at the bottom of the list for being remotely "high brow". And to top it off they write for the Raiders a symphonic theme. What brings it home is it feels appropriate. The poem invokes imagery of a travel warn individual. A man roughed up by the nomadic lifestyle, such as a pirate is said to have lived. A man who you'd probably want to keep your distance from. The music floats gently but has a strong and assertive presence, much like the weather changes going into Winter, making the piece live up to its name. Today's NFL really could use this kind of love and passion to portray it.

I remember as a boy in 1976 I was in the 4th grade and had just started playing pop warner football and was an avid football fan. The Raiders beat the Vikings in the Super Bowl that year. I remember waking up on the weekends and watching football highlights with that voice narrating! I always loved that voice and narrating. Really awesome music and voice! I remember it but never realized it was the Raiders theme music until today.
I remember watching prior Sunday's NFL highlights every Saturday with the great Tom Brookshire and Pat Summerall hosting and this song would play in the background during the video highlights. There was no ESPN in the mid 70's. This was it! Great memories!

As a kid, I was a Steelers' fan, and Terry Bradshaw was my idol. And they had an epic rivalry with the Raiders. Since then I've respected and grew fond of the Raiders' aura. Those horrifying costumes the fans wear to their games, God love them.
Wow. I'm actually surprised that YOU, a Steeler fan. Respect the Raiders. I know those Pirates of Oakland and those Steel Makers of Pittsburgh have a HUGE rivalry with each other and most Steeler fans I meet usually trash talk about my team and disrespect my Raiders.

I usually have a deep-seated hatred with Steelers fans because most of them just bring up the number of rings they have (when the conversation has nothing to do with that), but I meet cool ones like yourself from time to time.
Pirate_of_Oakland I think Georges is what you'd call a real fan. I used to hate the Steelers because they always beat my Cowboys. But, if you're a real fan, you can't help but extol the greatness that is/was the Steel Curtain and that team from the 70's. Still, IMO, the greatest of all time. No respect to Lombardi and his Pack, but I think that Steelers team was the best ever. They had to get past the great Dolphins and Cowboys teams of that decade to be named Team of the Decade and to me, that says it all.

I've been a Steeler fan since I was a kid (1970), but I respected the HELL out of the Raiders. The 70' s rivalry between those 2 teams was far more intense than any other in the NFL, before or since. They were fighting for league supremacy back then, & I am grateful that I was there to witness it in person !!

I wish the NFL could find someone with the passion the Sabols had for portraying American Football the way that they did, if they had not already. It wasn't just capturing hard hits and cool plays. They elevated the game to the levels of an art form. I mean, a POEM about the OAKLAND RAIDERS. Of all the NFL teams, they are at the bottom of the list for being remotely "high brow". And to top it off they write for the Raiders a symphonic theme. What brings it home is it feels appropriate. The poem invokes imagery of a travel warn individual. A man roughed up by the nomadic lifestyle, such as a pirate is said to have lived. A man who you'd probably want to keep your distance from. The music floats gently but has a strong and assertive presence, much like the weather changes going into Winter, making the piece live up to its name.
Today's NFL really could use this kind of love and passion to portray it.

I remember as a boy in 1976 I was in the 4th grade and had just started playing pop warner football and was an avid football fan.
The Raiders beat the Vikings in the Super Bowl that year.
I remember waking up on the weekends and watching football highlights with that voice narrating!
I always loved that voice and narrating.

I remember watching prior Sunday's NFL highlights every Saturday with the great Tom Brookshire and Pat Summerall hosting and this song would play in the background during the video highlights. There was no ESPN in the mid 70's. This was it! Great memories!
