That's right. I have been a Raiders fan since the Heidi Game in 1968, my 1st Raiders game when I was 6 years old. This poem came out during that time. This is how I start my season every year. Let's go Raiders!!! Just Win Baby!!!
Yes, Facenda was amazing, both for NFL Films and CBS News in Philly. Harry Kalas replaced him well for NFL Films which operates out of Cherry Hill, NJ.
John Madden is so cold, he might go into the NFL for a THIRD time for the video game. If that ain't a major contribution to the league and hasn't increased interest in the NFL for multiple generations, I don't know what to tell people!

The Autumn Wind is a pirate Blustering in from sea, With a rollicking song, he sweeps along, Swaggering boisterously. His face is weather beaten. He wears a hooded sash, With a silver hat about his head, And a bristling black mustache. He growls as he storms the country, A villain big and bold. And the trees all shake and quiver and quake, As he robs them of their gold. The Autumn Wind is a Raider, Pillaging just for fun. He'll knock you 'round and upside down, And laugh when he's conquered and won.
I'm a die hard Eagles fan. But I respect the hell out of the raiders. Fantastic franchise history, some amazing flagship players and this poem and theme. Get back on track silver and black. I hope we get a rematch at the Superbowl
Not a raiders fan but I used to play this every time I’d play as the raiders on madden when I was with friends. They always got mad. Good times and cool song.

Steve and Ed Sabol along with John Facenda are probably more responsible for the NFL being the behemoth it is today than any player who actually played the game.
This Raiders theme poem narrated by Facenda gives chills to every old time football fan. John Facenda the vice of God and NFL films. In Philly we actually got to watch him nightly. May he RIP
I am not a Raider fan, but this is truly an NFL Film classic. Although this is titled the "original" the film includes Matt Millen who wasn't a Raider until 1980 and this was originally done in 1974. The film was for the Raiders then and so it should include the team of the late 60's early 70's.
Good call on that. Raiders may not have beaten the Eagles in '80 if not for addition of Matt Millen. The Hendricks, Stabler, Otis Sistrunk, Alzado, etc. nastiness and toughness of the late 60's / early to mid 70's Raiders are more emblematic of that theme.
@@charleshutton284 Not really. The 80' Sb teams still had Hendricks and John Matuszak and added Lester Hayes. Plus, they still had that huge, bone crunching O-line. They were just as nasty and intimidating as documented by Millen's own words in commenting on that season. And BTW, Alzado didn't join the Raiders until 1982.
@@jonburrows8602 None of you mentioned the King of Nastiness, 5'10" 200 lbs. Safety #32 Raider 1971-1979 Jack Tatum! ...and just to add, Darryl Stingley, there was only one person that spent the night with Darryl in the hospital...Coach John Madden!!!!
That's all because of one man and only one man... Al Davis!!! He is a legend among legends. I actually wrote a poem when I was in college when Al died, here it is....
