Overlanding Oregon to the Goondocks | Siuslaw National Forest, Astoria Oregon & Oregon Coastline

- In this adventure, we are traveling overland style through Northwest Oregon to fulfill one of Alicia's childhood dreams: Visiting Astoria, Oregon and the filming locations of her favorite film of all time, The Goonies.
We start our journey overlanding through the Siuslaw National Forest, where we find camp and relax in the foggy summer evening air. The next morning, we teach a few Tread Lightly prinicples to our daughter and clean up a campsite before departing north to Astoria. In Astoria, we visit the Oregon Film Museum, some of the other film locations and stop by the Astoria Coffee Company for some fresh roasted coffee. We spend an afternoon at Delaura Beach Oregon playing in the sand and the next day make a surprise stop at Cannon Beach to see Haystack Rock, aka "Goonies Rock".
We also give a quick preview of our next episode where we meet up with fellow Patriot Campers owners for some 4x4 trails in the Tillamook State Forest to collect some Jeep Badge of Honor badges.
This was a fun one for us, hope it is for you too! Enjoy and Thanks for Watching!

I love the retro theme to this video. Super cool. Just subscribed!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you and thanks for watching! ☺️
I just wanted to commend you both for teaching your daughter to leave a campsite better than you found it. I love that she understands why you clean up after others so that future campers can enjoy a site as much as you have. Thank you so much for passing on this great piece of wisdom so that we can all enjoy the outdoors with our families. PS - My husband is also a huge Goonies fan, lol.
We try our best to be a positive inspiration for our daughter and others. Thank you for sharing in the experience with us and glad that you and your husband enjoyed!
Thanks for watching! 😊
Love this video! Drone shots are Epic!
Thank you! Appreciate it!
Some excellent forests up there to explore!
What a great video. I'm glad I found your channel. One thing my kids like doing with us when we're out on vacation is looking for Geocaches and there just happens to be one (probably more than one) in Astoria. Look up the Goonies video on The Geocaching Vlogger's channel to see if that would be something you think your family would like.
We’ve talked about doing geocaching before, just never pursued searching for them. Thanks for the idea and thanks for watching!
Hey buddy. What game were y’all playing when she “found a puzzle peace”.? Taking my buddy and his 3 year old on a few night trip soon.
Hey, good question! Alicia says it’s called Parking Jam. Have fun on your trip! :)
Goonies!!!!!!!!
Never Say Die!!!!
I went through the Coast Guard's advanced Rescue Swimmer School there. Absolutely beautiful and amazing.
Beautiful area!
I grew up on the Goonies too and honestly had no idea where it was filmed. I just happened to move to Astoria from Texas and discovered it was filmed there and I just love the idea of living in the Goondocks.
Quite the move from Texas to Astoria! Good on you! Thanks for watching!
Dang - This looks amazing!
Thank you kind sir and thanks for watching!
Great video. As a kid in the 80's (ok teen) I LOVED The Goonies. Still a favorite. Astoria is a great little town to visit as is the rest of the Oregon Coast. Did you realize that the school from Kindergarten Cop was just a few blocks from the Goonies house?
Thank you and thanks for watching! We did and passed by the school as well, but our visit to Astoria was really for the Goonies fix ☠️
Astoria is in my neck of the woods. What a great video. Add another subscriber to your list! Keep it shiny side up out there.
Nice! We really enjoyed our time there. Glad you enjoyed! Thank you and thanks for watching!
Those opening cinematic shots, the music, wow... some of the best i've ever scene! And the 80's vibes... so coool!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching and we hope you come back for more (and feel free to check out some of our previous adventures ;)
Incredible camera work man!
Thank you! Much appreciated and thanks for watching!
Wow the quality and the amount of time spent editing is very impressive! I love this!
Not everyone recognizes the work that goes into these. We’d rather strive for quality instead of quantity. Glad you enjoyed and hope you enjoy the rest of our content :)
As a Oregonian, and Redmond being the town I grew up in. It does upset me a bit when people say Bend, OR instead of Redmond, OR. And short-circuit was filmed in Astoria as well but no one seems to talk about short circuit.
Sorry you feel that way. Overland Expo was advertised as being in Bend, Oregon even though the actual event was in Redmond. We also knew Short Circuit was partially filmed in Astoria… but since the theme of this episode was Alicia’s love of all things Goonies, we didn’t mention it or or Kindergarten Cop. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed regardless! 😀
@@SixOverland definitely enjoyed it. Made me miss Oregon, we moved away from there 3 years ago. But we well be at the Overland expo PNW in Redmond this year. Hope to see you guys there
Just stumbled across your channel...love the music... Great cinematography, amazing parenting... looking forward to following your videos ... Happy camping you guys!
Thank you and glad you found us! Thanks for watching and following along. Our journey has just begun!
Nice video, have you guys done anything in Washington state? Trying to find something on your channel, so far no luck. Would love to see something from Washington.
Nothing in Washington state yet, but you never know where the future will lead. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
As a Origonian, a goonies fan, and a camper myself, I approve of this message. LOL
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching!
Amazing cinematography man..Love the vibe..what camera did you used and what editing program?thanks!
Thank you! We’re primarily using a Canon 90d and Davinci Resolve. Thanks for watching!
I'm picking my daughter up from Eugene in December. I plan on going up to Astoria to see the Goonies house myself. I wonder if the roads will be ok to do so or not.
We were only there during the summer. Would love to go back though. Thanks for watching and safe travels!
Goonies never say die!❤
That’s Right! ☠️
So happy to see Kiki!!!! So photogenic.
Great movie, keep going!
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
I did some contract work for the R ranch outside Yreka Ca. Thanks for sharing your Videos
Thanks for watching! R Ranch was a lot of fun. We’re so grateful we were able to spend time there with family. If you missed that episode, here’s the link :)

why do they spend so much time on what they will be eating? show us more of the trip with your Jeep .
All just a part of the overlanding experience. Thanks for watching! :)
Awesome 🙂, clicked the buttons for ya.
Much appreciated ;)
Hi guys. Very nice area you're in. Have you heard about fire reflectors? Just thinking about your family and keeping warm. Maybe, consider “The Original Fire Reflector” by MC Ranch Overland. They work really well and also light up the camp with a nice ambience so you can save your power for camp lights too. Thanks for sharing your adventures :)
We have seen those, but didn’t know who made them. Looking into them now. Thanks for the recommendation and thanks for watching!
@@SixOverland You're most welcome & thank you
You all have a beautiful family. Great job on the video very nice.
Thank you so much! 😊 We are pretty fond of each other. 😆 We truly appreciate the view! Keep watching! Our journey has just begun! 🥰
Your food looks sooo good!
It was quite tasty 😋
Wow what kind of camera and Lens are you using at 8:37??
Our main camera currently is a Canon 90D. I’m not exactly sure what lens I had on at the time, but there’s a good chance that it was a 24mm f2.8. Thanks for watching!
I was born and raised in that area and will be back out in the spring. This video has made me homesick!
Glad we could bring you a touch of home. Thanks for watching and safe travels on your return visit!
Cannon Beach is where the jeep joined the off-road race, during the police chase.
Awesome. We weren’t sure if the race was there or if it was further north on the beach you can currently drive on. Now we know :). Thanks for watching!
@@SixOverland Also the movie series Twilight had some scene there.
My aunt and uncle used to play country music at the R ranch
Very cool! No music the days we were there, but fun nonetheless! You can see our adventures at R Ranch here:

Thanks for watching!
Gas or Diesel? Automatic or Manual?
Our JKU is 3.6L Gas Automatic. We’ve owned a manual Jeep before and understand the pros and cons… and diesel is always in the realm of future possibilities ;)
Certainly makes me want to re watch Goonies!!
We had fun with this one for sure! Thanks for watching! :)
It's great you're teaching her. And it's sad a preschooler has to learn to pick up after adults. Great video as usual.
Thank you! Yes, it’s unfortunate that we need to clean up for others. We can only do so much, but hope this message will make a wider impact. It takes all of us working together to keep these public lands open.
That’s a Thrush that has the pretty song.
Such a wonderful sounding bird :) Thanks for watching!
wow! These woods are amazing, love these shots, and what a great adventure!
Thanks Doc! The PNW coastal forests are beautiful. Highly recommend! Thanks for watching!
I love this and "liked" it!

We used a sliced NY Strip for that one. We had a blast in the Pacific Northwest and am sure you will too! The Santa Cruz boardwalk and nearby redwoods are awesome as well. Sounds like you’ve got an amazing adventure planned. God bless and thanks for watching!
Welcome to the beautiful Pacific Northwest hope ya enjoyed ya stay here 🤙🏽
Loved it! We’ll be back again someday for sure! (Still have a few upcoming episodes we’re working on from the area too :)
Chester Copperpot.
😄🏴☠️
This is the first video I’ve watched from this channel and it was fantastic! Down to earth family living your best life. And teaching your daughter great life lessons. You’ve gained my subscription. 🙂
Trying our best to do it right with the one shot we’ve been given. Glad you enjoyed and thank you for your support!
What a great adventure! We are also Goonies fans and this was just a joy to watch!
Definitely worth the trip for true Goonies fans in a beautiful area of Oregon. Highly Recommend! Thanks for watching! :)
Love the vibe 🫶🏽 This ones definitely on the list for me to experience. The production from the shots to color to the music really send this for me. Viva los Goonies 🤙🏽
Bullet holes the size of matzo balls!
Much appreciated! Glad you liked the episode and thanks for watching! ☠️❤️
Even though the Goonies was released a year before I was born my mom made it a point to have me watch it as soon as I was old enough. It easily became one of my favorite movies growing up. My wife had never watched the goodies as a kid so I had the pleasure of having her watch it for the first time and she became an instant fan. Your trip out to Astoria really makes me want to plan a similar trip. Awesome video!! Keep it up guys
Hey you, guuuuys!! 😉 Thank you so much for watching! It was such a fun trip! We totally recommend it. Glad you enjoyed it!
Dude I was born in 89 didn't see it and understand it until i was about 8 years old
All time favourite movie along with lost boys the music is incredible on the video...😂👌🏻🇬🇧
How do you call that “ overlanding “?
You’re just driving down a ( very smooth ) gravel road… nice scenery, tho-
“Overlanding” is vehicle dependent adventure travel. This was just one section out of a non-stop five week trip for us.
When you only know that on Gaia GPS it’s labeled as a ‘Forest Service Trail’, you have no idea what the quality of the surface is until you get there.
Feel free to check out some of our other videos, we’ve been through all types of terrain. Thanks for watching!
@@SixOverland i totally get it- just busting your balls , all in good fun- happy trails!
It’s Working ! It’s Working ! As of November 2022 the Goonies house you visited was FOR SALE $1.7 Million the 1896 home on the Columbia river flowing into the Pacific Ocean !
A quick google search shows it’s advertised but not if it’s Sold !
Loved the episode guys I grew up in the 80’s and this movie was my favourite
Awesome! Yeah, we saw it just sold and the new owner is a Goonies fan and joked that visitors will have to do the Truffle Shuffle! Lol. Great fun visiting there. Thanks for watching!
