Only 8 panels and a 7kWh battery for my own consumption. And yet already £40 of export payments!

Great stuff! The Octopus Outgoing tariff really is fantastic.

Based in the Northwest with an East/West setup, one of the things I notice about your very informative monthly stats is that although our average generation is similar, weather is clearly having a massive impact...I beat you (just) in January, you beat me in February, I beat you in March, you've just beaten me again...
Thanks for all the hard work you put into making these videos!

Thank you for the positive comments. Really appreciate that! Very interesting to hear your experience. Every time I’m over the North West it seems to rain haha. 😂

Hi Dan, just in the process of starting my solar journey. I did download your spreadsheet and have a couple of questions. Do you have an updated version such as the one you are using in this video? Can you explain the '% Consumption from solar' and '% consumption from battery' and how I find out what that percentage is. Thanks.

Thanks Dan for another informative video. For comparison, we have a South and West facing system total capacity of 7.38kW and during April generated 602kWh, Exported 296kWh. With the EVs taking around 200kWh of power during that month our final April bill was very similar to yours at £36.03 on the Octopus Intelligent Go tariff. We also are on Gas so also suffer from the standing charges from both energy supplies and are based in Norfolk. We are hoping for a negative bill next month, especially now that there have been significantly more sunny days so far and have exported 141kWh which is 20kWh more than we've imported already during these first 11 days.

Thank you for the comments. 👍 I’m
Hoping for the same. The sunny start to May is making the figures look good. When you say the EVs taking the power, do you mean from the grid or direct from the solar?

    Nice one Dan,
Your east west setup has caught up and overtaken my south array . So my 5.1Kwh peak south facing in central Scotland for April was 504kWh , maximum daily was 36.2 kWh on the 24th and minimum again worse than yours at 2.8kWh on the 1st ( must be the dreich Scottish clouds) Still on Octopus Agile but now have a full EV so considering a GO tariff but as I`m retired I manage to charge mostly from Solar but the 7.5p overnight and 15p export might just sway me.......But your 69p standing charge is now ridiculous hope Ofgem are quick

Thanks. 👍 In the nicest possible way, it’s good to know I’ve overtaken you now. 😂 I am enjoying being on Go. That night rate combined with the export really feels like a great tariff combo.

I have a similar system in Norfolk. It actually makes more financial sense to not charge your EV using solar, but export that electricity and then charge at the cheap night rate. This is also environmentally better because it helps to balance the grid and decarbonise.

@@DanEVSolar7 9 Kw of panels all direct S facing though 8 of the 20 are shaded outside of 1000-1400. The other 12 are never shaded.
Max peak production Ive see so far is 7.5kW and I'm wondering if thats a restriction of the inverter or just that its not June yet.
I'm still waiting for the export stuff to be setup with Octopus at the moment so I'm charging everything i can when its sunny but i generally run out of stuff to charge / use and battery is full by noon. Feel free to come round and charge up after midday :-) ( Not today though today as its raining again ! )

Hi Dan. At the risk of asking a stupid question, have you found any way to see the Octopus Intelligent Go data in a way which shows when additional off-peak rates have been applied outside of core off-peak hrs due to active EV charging?
I use both Octopus Watch and Octopus-Aid and seem that the API data doesn’t show this.
It feels like the only option would be to download all my data via one of these apps and then manually apply the off peak rate to any times the EV was charging outside the normal cheap hrs.
It further complicated by the fact that the Ohme doesn’t really give any useful data on what times it was charging, just that it achieved the target SoC by the required time.

Hey. Not a stupid question at all. I also use OctoAid and have found that to be about the best, but same as you I have to manually put the additional time slots in myself. The only way I can think is to download the Octopus data and do some manipulation in Excel with it. It’s all raw data showing half hourly usage and I’m not 100% sure it gives the unit price, but if it does that may be a way around it.
