Everyone does a video on L & J Cuts. But NO ONE gives this sort of detail from the rich history to modern keyboard shortcuts. What can I say but Thank you?
Thanks Colin. I leaned L cuts back in the day when I cut 16mm film in school. But always good for a refresher. Thank so so much for another enjoyable tutorial!
Thank you Colin. Again, a great tutorial. I, too, have been doing J & L cuts for a while, but couldn't tell you why. Just seemed right. Now I know what they are, and why one should consider using them. Which makes me smarter. Which is how I always feel after watching your tutorials. Have a great day!
Thank you Colin, as always this was a very informative and helpful tutorial. All the best to you & yours & to everyone reading this. Appreciative Pr CC beginner. Happy Creating!
Thanks for this. I will use it with my editing students. You explain how very well. I have two comment. I would have put the jet track on a separate track. The second is about Dede Allen. She wanted me to help her cut REDS with Warren Beatty. I was about to direct my first film. I turned her down. Dede did many great things. Cut wonderful movies and was an innovator. You leave the impression that she invented the J-cut and L-cut. We editors who started our careers on Moviolas, made overlaps (as we called them), on the synchronizer which was how the timeline got started. I may have invented the timeline without knowing it when I explained to the designers of EditDroid how to make overlap dialogue. Drop me a line and I will tell you the story.
Hey Robert, I am humbled and honoured to have you on my channel. I mentioned you to my daughter, who is an editor and she said she was looking at your IMDB profile just the other day! Wow, what a small world. I would love to talk more, can you please reach out via my site and I'll get back to you? videorevealed.com/contact/ And yes, the jet should have gone on another track. 😉
