I remember playing an hour after they introduced the R8... my teammates at the time literally bought ONLY this pistol, they didn't even bother buying a primary. It was so broken that I told myself there's no way they're NOT gonna patch this within the next few houres!

@@abbcc5996 yea that was disgusting. I remember it was literally all r8 both teams the entire game. So much fun but definitely not fair. It was fine tho because we all knew it would be butchered immediately but it was a great time while it lasted

For me CZ deserved S tr instead of the revolver becouse of how big of an impact it had on the pro scene and the match making.

I do totally agree that the brief moment in time I took CS:GO semi-seriously was around the time of the revolver patch, and man going into death match servers for that couple of days was a real hoot. I might add, I royally suck at Counter Strike.

@@G.tuness those 3 listed weapons were never overpowered. WarOwl however said that every pistol was op.
Berettas received a major buff in mid 2015. They would easily win ever pistol round like a P90.
P2000 and USP are basically the same gun. Granted the P2000 is a little weaker: Ever since CS was released the USP was always a one tap headshot without helms. Making it op for CTs cause they didnt have to buy Helms. Saving a ton of money. VS Ts have to waste money to protect against headshots. Just because its not complained about doesnt mean its not OP.
Berettas have 0 armor pen. Thus making them useless on any armor round.
USP has always been busted. But since its the only thing CTs have until the M4 they cant really complain.
P2000 is just a weaker version of the USP.

By far, my "favorite" thing about the R8 was that you could right-click shoot when being frozen at round start. Had so many 2v2s where the round would end before it actually started...
...and you could right-click shoot while defusing.

@@honzaspacil8326 Game doesn't care if you use secondary fire while defusing since up to that point it wouldn't do anything for you. They just overlooked the fact that the R8's secondary fire still shot a bullet.

@@pindy6109 i was a prolific jumpscouter before the patch and it took me a year to get back to the state i was at pre nerf. now i can hit jumpscout headshots into pit from a site on dust 2. shits mad fun.

@@sim00n99 Well because you could counter strafe while in the air and the window of jumping accuracy was 3 times bigger there was a lot of potential to destroy people from behind boxes and on b site mirage. As you mentioned old hitreg especially while jumping were also broken at the time... All things considered, if you had the skill the scout was borderline OP.

People said we'd get used to the new sounds and forget the old ones, but I don't buy that for a moment since I can still clearly recall every weapon sound from the game prior to the changes. I mean the current ones are not bad, but when I look at old tournament matches on places like old Train I'm just left thinking "this is nice, but I like THIS".
The old pistol sounds (save for the Desert Eagle and Dual Elites) in my opinion were just fine the way they were. I think the heavy changes were alright, the scout being changed was also fine. Basically any sound that didn't seemingly use the same template that they changed was mostly fine.
But if I had to list all of the old sounds I prefer, it would be the P250, Glock-18, Five-SeveN, P2000, CZ-75, AWP, FAMAS, M4A4, M4A1-S (why couldn't they just use something like CS:CZ's suppressed sound?), Negev, SCAR-20, MP9, MAC-10, and the MP7.

Since you're gonna experiment with a bunch of new stuff:
I think one of the reasons SoloQ to Global was such a beloved series is that you have amazing storytelling. And the series really brought that to life. On top of that you often reflected upon the mental aspect of playing aswell, touching upon themes like "why we tilt", "how anxiety affects our play" and much more. Something that added depth and relevancy both within and outside the server. I would personally love to see more of this story-telling WarOwl in future videos. But feel free to do whatever makes the most sense to you!
Also worth noting that when the R8 came out there was a method where you held down right and left click at the same time to "pre cock" the hammer so that you could just release the shot and instantly kill whoever walks into your crosshair instead of waiting for a delay
WarOwl, we love nothing more than when you are creative and passionate. Your PUBG videos were so well edited and you could just tell how much love was in them. I even commented on the PUBG videos when you realised them and they still hold a high spot in my memory for great videos with narrative and story telling.

The revolver also came with a bug which let people move and shoot at the same time with no delay.
Was about to comment that, not quite sure anymore, but I think you could just press both mouse buttons at once to have both perfect accuracy and an instant shot
And the bug/feature where you right click to shoot while still in spawn
Also right click to shoot while defusing haha. Easily the most broken weapon we’ve ever had
Fun fact: When the R8 Volvo came out, you could shoot left+right mouseclick at the same time, you had the best of both worlds :D

The revolver could be shot with full accuracy without delay when it was released with a very simple exploit. You could also shoot during the buy time which wasn't useful but funny

I completely disagree with WarOwl, the five seven is the most broken pistol there is right now. Trust me, it's so much better than the tec 9, I think the cz is better than the tec 9 because it is super accurate while running so you can melt an enemy close with body shots but with the tec 9 you have to get a headshot. With the five seven well... just hit them 4 times in the body and they die.

@@dukenintendo use it consistently on Faceit lvl 5-7 matches and it works. With increased sucess on B site Mirage. Or the mid hold after loosing a pistol. Ive already mowed 4 players running mid while trying to kill me with, with only the Negev and no kevlar... So...
Negev used to be so OP, like Tec-9 OP
The negev went through several changes: price reduced, Valve changed its fire sounds 2 times and the laser accuracy. It was sort of an OP weapon but yeah, should have been included instead of the M249.
M249 is useless, if Valve removed it, nobody would even notice.
I was a proud SG user before it was realized as good, it was my go to weapon for guarding long on old cobblestone and lurking in cache. Forever in my heart

The AUG was also pretty strong, I liked the scopes idea and they also were superior as rifles themselves, long live the unpopular rifles

This video could've included the utilities as well, i remember hearing that back when the game released, the molotovs where extremely OP, they slowed the enemy down and damaged it 2 or 3 times as much as it does now.

I still use the krieg (sg 553 for those who doesn't know) to this day and I still really like the gun. The Armor penetration is a little better than the AK but the accuracy is what I love the most about the gun. Yes the fire rate is hilariously slow but it actually made the krieg so much easier to handle. Pretty underrated after the nerf. :)
What's crazy is that I said that the UMP was good as a long range smg and I liked the sg-553 long before the pro's did, and my higher ranked friends made fun of me.
Armor pen is not a "little better" lol. Literaly 100% vs 77%. You do the same damage with or without armor
Don't forget, when the R8 came out, you were able to TK your team before the round even started. Just right click while waiting for the round start timer. And it didn't even count for your TK counter (if I recall correctly)

The glock was actually op, so broken in fact that being killed by it in a gun round caused immense psychological damage

But MP7 was quite bad. It used to cost $1700. Exclude P90 and the clearly rubbish Bizzon, MP7 was no good and no bad than any other SMG, but it just costs straight more. When I just started playing CSGO, MP7 was my pick for SMG cuz it resembles CS MP5 the most. But I became more and more repelling to it cuz it made my short budget even worse.

The best thing about the R8 was like the week after release you could hold the middle key of the mouse to skip the delay like that. And you even had close to 100% accuracy while moving. It was insane you could jumpshot accurate with a pocket awp
The AUG and the SG556 were in their most broken states for years, and instead of trying them out, taking advantage of them, everyone called them bad, and kicked you for trying to use them. I still find this hilarious.
This is still an understatement of how OP the revolver was. It was literally better than the AWP in every way.

6:45 I was playing CS:GO at that time. It was pretty funny, we woke up to find that the deagle was basically an auto-sniper without the scope and everyone quickly realized that using anything but the deagle put you at a disadvantage
I've never noticed the amount of Transistor music in WarOwl videos before. But I just beat it the other day and it quickly became one of my favourite games. It's super cool to hear the music in videos about completely different games.

I remember using the SG long before the price change updates. I would use it to good effect against my foes, however I mainly used it because I couldn't aim with the AK.

for people who wern't there in December 2015, when the revolver came out, it was that and the rank update that made me stop playing csgo after 3 years of consecutive play. and I like many others left all my friends who also played behind.

She got 2 buffs right when the game launched publicly in a single patch and it was related to her tailwind ability being able to break Cypher's wires and 1 related to her smoke. She was never buffed after that. On the contrary, she got nerfed. She was never bad. People just didn't see her potential. Do some research next time dude.

Back when I played CS:GO (I think I quit a good 7 years ago lmao) I remember advocating for the SG553. It had higher damage vs armor than the AK thanks to its 100% armor pen (consistently 3-shotting people), better recoil, and better fire rate, for a mere 200 more. The zoom option also gave it better ranged capabilities, too.
In essence, a MASSIVE improvement over the AK for a relatively minor increase in cost - further alleviated by the more forgiving T-sided economy, as well.
It was WILD that it took the community 6 years to realize it. Like you said, it will forever be a testament to the rigid elitism of CS:GO's community. For half this game's existence, a weapon was incredibly strong and absolutely overlooked simply due to a collective refusal to use it, despite statistics showing it was almost always the better option.
I loved when the R8 broke the game. I played it all day every day until they nerfed it. It was super fun and gave me the chance to really test my skills with the AK, battling AWPers with the R8 and shredding R8ers with the AK was probably the most fun I ever had in Counter Strike. Then they did the right thing and unbroke the game, and I never fanfire flickshotted a whole team in pit again.

I love this format, it's kind of like a counter strike history lesson that brought back so many memories about this game that had slipped my mind with time. I think you should do a video on the content of CS that's no longer accessible... pre-panorama operations books and their comics come to mind, also reserves maps, those were legendary
ahh the wild west weekend in Australia... R8 gets released and you can fire it during the countdown and timeouts so it was getting fired every second of both ... one on one duels organized in chat... amazing weekend

If you left and right clicked at the same time you got left click accuracy without the delay upon initial release.
I like how everyone still forgets the nova and that fact that they ignored it for nearly 2 years when the gun was literally god tier for long range headshots. I would use that thing on non save rounds and wreck for nearly 2 years before they made it a no head armor 2nd round shotgun.
the nova's a pump action sniper you can still hit 50 in1 from palace to ct on mirage if you're lucky lmao
Genuinely an interesting video to watch for players, including me, who play the game since 2003. There are days from time to time we want to quit but never really pull the trigger. Thanks for creating this video showing the game that we all love from an angle we wish we didn't need to care about but still enjoyed.

I remember when the R8 came out. It happened the day after I started my move across the country (Western Australia to Tasmania, roughly 4100km) and I kept reading about how OP it was and how the game was totally ruined. I still wish I could have experienced it first hand.
After this video I had to go and rewatch some r8 compilations. Those were glorious two days.
PS: In the last two years I became a filthy casual due to reduced playtime because of age. So I look forward to the new form of videos even though I still enjoy your CS content very much!

I'm kinda surprised there wasn't any mention or placing of the Scout. You could literally have perfect accuracy while jumping (which imo should have stayed, but just increased the buy cost, because it still took some skill to nail down when to fire)

Warowl just took me on a flashback to the day I was in the Skype with the boys when we were having a blast with the broken revolver the day it came out. I lowkey grew up watching you that’s crazy.
I quit CS:GO when the revolver came out. I was sniping down long on Dust 2 very very well and I was inexperienced. I didn't realize that only lasted 2 days. I wasn't that great, and realized that no one needed any skill anymore.
