- Hi guys, in this video i replaced the mogul socket and replaced the on/off main switch and also replaced the candle cover and socket insulation.
I just rewatched several of your videos
Beautiful lamp. The large bulb in the center looks like the 100-200-300 watt 3 way, for anyone with a vintage lamp using this large bulb, I suggest you buy plenty of spare while you can, if you want to preserve that original look and feel, because we're getting to a point you will no longer be able to purchase incandescent and halogen except for specialty applications such as appliance bulbs, heat lamps and lava lamp/candle warmer bulbs for example. (You have your government to thank for that)
In preparing for the discontinuation of incandescents ... you might also want to advise getting a mogul (E39/40) to E26/27 reducer .... so a normal screw bulb can be used in place of the mogul (E39) base 🤔
You can get Satco 3 way mogul LED bulb if need to go LED
A man brought in a lamp just like that one and said he moved from one spot in the room to another and it wouldn't work. He had lamp for lot of years and never knew about the pole switch.
Yeah you are right, just like our other customers who have this stiffel 6 way floor lamp they dont know also that there is a pole switch on their lamp.
thank you for showing how to do this socket change
You are welcome! Thanks for watching my video.
Have you ever tried replacing the original mogul 3-way socket with a standard 3-way socket ?
Good job Danny.. I would have been frustrated getting that lamp back together. By the way how do you cut your candle covers. They look so even and perfect.
I used a hachsaw for cutting the candle cover and use sandpaper to grind after cutting.
I have the same Stiffel floor lamp and I replace the pole switch in the base about 30 years ago. I used a switch from the hardware store and, while it worked, it didn't last long. Obviously it wasn't of the same quality as the original. Would you please provide details on what and from where I can order a suitable switch that will work and be of adequate quality?
Ever get an answer?
@@c.c.1366 no. Using the patent drawing as a diagram I took it all apart and redid it myself but no sooner had I got it back together then they switch failed. I gave up.
Great video. Question: I have a similar Stiffel lamp with the on-off pole. It's disassembled, and I can't get the pole parts in the right order again. Any diagrams or instructions to help?? Thanks!
Sorry I don't have diagram or instructions
But probably i can help you to assemble your floor lamp through chat. Which part of the lamp came off, the base of the lamp or the top part?
@@daboylampandfixturerepairs615 All of it. Base, pole, inner conduit, all of the hardware. It's in pieces aside from the top lighting fixture which I removed to rewire to correct a problem. I am not sure how it goes back together.
Thanks a ton for replying!
Ok lets start to work on the base, disconnect the power cord from the pushknob switch at the bottom of the base, and remove that pushknob switch turn counter clockwise and inside where the pushknob switch attache , there is a pin about 1 inch long and probably 1/4 thick. This pin push down the pushknob switch when you push down the column. Then disconnect the long rod to the top part, turn the rod counter clockwise. And attache the rod to the base. Let's stop here for a while and tell me the other part s so i can figure it out. What i remember there is a long tube that goes to the rod. A spring and washer and u- shape metal with ear if I'm not mistaken.
Ok I'll try my best to help you assemble your floor lamp.
@@daboylampandfixturerepairs615 Thanks, Man! I've got that much figured out, but above that when the first section of the casting attaches is where I'm lost. I do hope that I'm not robbing you of time to tend to real business. Sorry for the hassle, but you're a good soul to answer my questions. Best wishes!
Great video .... but please remove the song .... or use a different one... its annoying 🤣. It doesnt fit for use on a repair video. 🤔
It's jarring and I can't concentrate
Hey Danny..I have a lamp with on/off on top and nite lite on bottom controlled by separate canopy switch only.how do I connect the wiring. Each lite has its own switch.
Is your lamp for table or floor lamp? Cut an 18 gauge wire , estimate the lenght of the wire always add allowance. Then the smooth side of the wire you cut connect to the brass terminal on top socket and connect the rough side of the wire to silver terminal on top socket. Connect the rough side of the wire from top socket together with the rough or white side wire on bottom socket to the rough side wire of the power cord. Then connect the smooth side wire of the power cord to one side wire of the bottom switch together with the smooth side wire on top socket. And connect the other side wire on bottom switch to the smooth or black side wire on bottom socket.
Thank you again Danny it worked out perfectly it is a small table lamp like they Gone With the Wind type I wanted to use a three wire switch but was vetoed. Again many many many thanks
