Kinda unrelated but I just noticed a bumble bee chilling out with my cat, like it just sitting there on the cat probably trying to warm up a bit, it's rather chilli today. And my cat just doesn't care one bit.
Dont shake your bees into the hive! the boxes are made so you can take out 3 of the frames and set the boxes down into the hives for a few days and let the bees come out slowely! taking the queen out is good but replace the plug with soft candy sugar so the bees can eat it and let the queen out! I did this with my hives and had no problems with them wanting to leave!
There was no plug in these Queen cages. The place I got them from just recommended taking the Queen out after 2-3 days. They were just solid boxes for the queens. I had to get the bees out so I could open the nuc box up to continue giving them sugar in the hive. I thought ripping open the nuc box with them in the hive would be more harmful than getting them in the hive first.
@@whitehouseonthehill Yes letting the queen out after 2 to 3 days is recommended ! In the queen box the queen usually has some kind of queen candy or something to keep her in there? or a cork. People will take that out and replace it with a marshmallow or something so the bees will eat it and let the queen out. I'm sure you know about that though, The hive boxes are made to fit inside the langstroph (sp) hives so you don't need to shake the bee's out of it. Once you've taken the food out and the queen out . Take out 3 of the frames set the box in . Open end up for a couple of days 2 , 3 is better. the bees will leave on there own. I sprayed the other frames with sugar water to encourage the bees to come out! After a couple of days if there's any bees left in the box take the box out and put it out side by the hive entrance and the bees will walk in. There' others on youtube that I learned this from. I haven't had any bees sworm after I got them since I stopped shaking them into there hives. Food for thought! Good luck with your bee's this year! I love being a bee keeper!
6:12 Careful with the Flow Hive; it's very easy to over-harvest and starve out your bees. The flow frames cannot be left on over winter due to the queen excluder, (which is necessary to keep brood out of the frames,) so any resources the bees put in them are effectively unavailable to them when it counts the most. The Flow Hive was designed for use in Australia, where the climate tends to be considerably warmer than most of North America, so it's good practice to give the bees at least another permanent medium or deep box for winter insurance before putting on the Flow apparatus.

I always release my queens at the time on putting them in the hive, she has been with the cluster for days already, I have never had a problem releasing right away, and then you get a few more days of egg production.
I don’t know what your infatuation is with having to have a mark queen, you will be able to pick out the queen with a little experience looking for a queen without a dot. I have never seen anybody handle queens the way you do, almost killing them or losing them multiple times. Stop doing that man! You work so hard, do yourself a favor and work smart as well. Good luck with your flow hives we have three of them, and are able to get honey just like tapping beer out of a keg.

Queens aren't always accepted by a new colony. If not left in a cage, the workers will ball & kill the Queen.
